I am trying to access my home wireless internet and the troubleshooting screen says microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter has a driver problem. What does this mean??
I would like to install linux ubuntu next to my primary windows 7 OS.
I found that wubi ubuntu installer which helps you with simple installation/uninstallation of ubuntu.
But the wiki says that wubi uses a virtual disk. Is that similar to virtually running the OS? I really dont want my primary system to slow down because of that.
Should i rather go with the classical dual boot?
If WUBI, whats the recommended install size?
Thanks
A single LUN among from a group disappeared.
Neither the host nor the Vcenter can see it.
Four virtual machines on the LUN now are unknown.
The strange thing is the LUN is now available in the list when you try to ADD datastore from configuration == storage == Add Datastore
But this cannot help me since i need the vms on the lun and i do not get options to add the lun without formating it to VMFS
How can i get the lun back or atleast be able to copy the vms from it
A friend has a site developed in ColdFusion with MySQL and is looking for better cost-effective hosting as the traffic scales up rapidly. Azure comes to mind.
I haven't used Azure myself, however, I believe it is possible to setup and interact with the web-server via RDP into a hosted Virtual Machine?
I am curious if ColdFusion can be installed in the hosted Azure VM. Also, would the site have to be tweaked to run on Azure SQL, or could it continue to use MySQL?
Thanks.
Hi.
I have one dedicated server with Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise.
I need Web, SQL and Services servers. Is it good idea to use physical server only as Hyper-V manager and for each specific server use one Virtual VHD?
Thank you.
I'm playing around with virtual disks and thin provisioning and have a question about it.
I've created several disks and allocated space to with thin provisioning. Is it possible to allocate more disk space than the maximum amount of the datastore space. So that for example, my VM's will stop functioning when the disks slowly start filling up?
We've got a CentOS server running a cluster of virtuals. Occasionally the cluster's internal network drops out for a minute or so ... and then comes back. The problem is somehow related to the actual network traffic, but it is not a simple load issue. (The system is generally lightly loaded, and the problem occurs irrespective of actual load.)
The setup:
CentOS 5.6 on Dom0, various CentOS on the DomU's
Hardware - a Dell R710 with a BroadCom NextXpress 2 NIC (sigh)
using the latest drivers for the NIC from BroadCom
Xen configured to use network-bridge and vif-bridge
Some iptable tweaks to route an unrelated port to one of the virtuals.
The system has one externally visible IP address, and Dom0 runs an Apache httpd configured with a number of virtual hosts each of which reverse proxies to web servers running on the virtuals. (The virtuals have to be NAT'ed, primarily because we don't have enough allocated public IP addresses.)
The symptoms:
Works fine most of the time.
When someone tries to UPLOAD a large file to one virtuals, the internal network drops out ... for all virtuals:
The Dom0 httpd sees a network timeout talking to the backend server on the virtual and reports a 502.
A previously established ssh connection from Dom0 to any of the DomU's freezes.
Our monitoring shows ping failures for traffic between virtuals.
The Xen consoles to the DomU's do not freeze.
No log messages in any log files that I can see, on either Dom0 or the DomU's ... apart from the Dom0 httpd logs.
After a minute or so, the problem clears by itself.
This is 100% reproducible.
What we've tried:
Downloading, building and installing the latest BNX2 driver on Dom0
Turning off MSI on the NIC - adding "options bnx2 disable_msi=1" to /etc/modprobe.conf
Turning off tcp segmentation offload - "ethtool -K eth0 tso off".
Sacrificing a black rooster at midnight.
I've exhausted all my options apart from switching to KVM ... or slaughtering more roosters.
Any suggestions?
so apparently, you can't use VirtualBox etc with Windows Home 7. because you would be using two licenses instead of one.
So other users that tried virtualization with Windows Home Premium 7, did you just end up using another OS like Ubuntu etc? Did you find a workaround for using Windows?
When I say virtualization, I mean virtual machine of sort - where dangerous websites can be visited, nasty applications can be tried etc.
I have a Virtual Server with 1GB of RAM. When i start glassfish with asadmin start-domain it instantly allocates all available memory, although i defined -Xmx128m in my domain.xml. Am I missing an option here? How can I prevent glassfish from using all free memory?
We have just virtualised our web servers but are experiencing problems when trying to connect with the existing DB server. The error message that is being returned from the virtual machines is as follows:
A connection was successfully
established with the server, but then
an error occurred during the login
process. (provider: TCP Provider,
error: 0 - The specified network name
is no longer available.)
Any help would be much appreciated - Many thanks in advance.
I have a pool of XenServer hosts running the Free version of XenServer 5.6 FP1. I was wondering if I change the network backend to use Open vSwitch if I can specify ACLs on individual network VIFs without needing to use the DVS appliance (distributed virtual switch) which requires an Advanced License or higher.
Basically I'm looking for a way to isolate VMs on my network so that if a user had root access on the command line they couldn't access other servers they should not be able to (without using a VLAN).
I'm using the EXPORT feature in Hyper-V to move a large Virtual Machine (VM) over a 1GB network from a Windows 2008 to a Windows 2008 R2 box (200GB) and its so intense that I get the following icon on my destination Hyper-V manager:
Is this expected? Is there another way to get large file across the network and minimize this intense I/O effect? Anyones else ever seen that Do Not Enter sign? The other VMs are functional but slow, but I'm guessing that is expected.
I have SQL Server 2005 on this laptop. I probably got installed along with Visual Studio.
The thing is, I don't use it and it's constantly running. Process Explorer reports that it has a virtual Size of 1.5 GB.
I want to uninstall this, but I'm not sure if there are any other processes dependent on this.
Hi,
Hi which is the best way to use linux on windows?I am having windows 7 currently on dell laptop.I want to use linux for development of rails.I have seen that there are a lot options like running directly from usb or cd,installing it,Running it on a virtual box etc... .I would be using linux very frequently.Speed is one of my main concerns. So Which is a good way to go about it for my purpose?

hi

If I restart the process when it crash, the problem is fixed for almost 3 days.
Has anyone seen this before, or know of a fix?
I'm running
psql -U postgres template1 -c "select * from pg_stat_activity"
and the output is too wide for my terminal. Is there a *nix command I can use to prevent the output from wrapping? Maybe a setting in screen that enables virtual horizontal scrolling?
I'm trying to convert my system to RAID 0 and so far I found contrasting opinions on the process. Somebody says Windows 7 can't boot from virtual volumes, somebody says it can.
My ideal setup would be two 500gb HD striped in RAID 0 with the OS and software installed on them.
Any thoughts?
Postfix serves for my virtual domains and works fine.
But for one of my domains:
- it bounces mails targeted at [email protected]
- it rejects mails targeted at [email protected]
problem is, [email protected] does not exist either.
here is my postconf
why does it bounce [email protected], and reject other non existing mails?
Thanks.
I set up a new DNS entry for one of my subdomains (I haven't set up any Apache virtual hosts or anything like that yet). How can I check that the DNS information has propagated?
I assumed that I could simply ping my.subdomain.com and assume that if it could resolve, it would show the IP address I specified in the A record. However, I don't know if I am assuming correctly. What is the best way to check this information?
We have setup ipsec and l2tp on linux. One question came up (due to firewall management policy) is whether it's possible to have 1 virtual interface instead of one per connected client.
Now we have:
ppp0 serverip clientip1
ppp1 serverip clientip2
Want to have:
l2tp_tun serverip serverip
like with OpenVPN's tun interfaces and then to be able to push IP address and route to each client.
I have a PSD for a website that must be sliced. I can not work in Win or OSX box(or a virtual machine).
What are the solutions for editing a PSD in Ubuntu 9.10?
Which one do you recommend?
Thank you.
I plan to create my first DC and forest on a physical server, then I want to run a second DC on a virtual server that will replicate the first DC. I understand that this will provide redundancy for AD that if the first domain controller went down the second would resume until the first is back online. Would this work and how?
Hello,
I am running Windows 7 on my PC, and I am running a Windows 2008 Server VM in Windows Virtual PC. Both machines have network connectivity. However, I cannot ping the VM from the host neither by computer name nor IP. I can ping the host machine from the VM both by computer name and IP.
Is there something I need to enable on the VM to allow it to be seen by other machines on my network?
Thanks!
I install minix in virtual box but I dont know whether it installed correctly or not. Just check this screen shot and lemme know how to test it Screenshot
