  • How do you solve the 15-puzzle with A-Star or Dijkstra's Algorithm?

    I've read in one of my AI books that popular algorithms (A-Star, Dijkstra) for path-finding in simulation or games is also used to solve the well-known "15-puzzle". Can anyone give me some pointers on how I would reduce the 15-puzzle to a graph of nodes and edges so that I could apply one of these algorithms? If I were to treat each node in the graph as a game state then wouldn't that tree become quite large? Or is that just the way to do it?

    Hi, I'm trying to render templates of an html-page that contains swedish characters "åäö" but when it renders in the web browser it ends up with "?". The page renders in UTF-8. It seems like pointers and array indexes should be checked at all. When should integer overflow be checked for? When numbers are added in C without type explicitly mentioned, or printed with printf, when will overflow occur? Is there a way to automatically detect when an integer arithmetic overflow?

  • phpThumb cannot find ImageMagick / Imagick

    Hi, I'm having a problem with phpThumb. It says in the documentation that to get the best out of it, use ImageMagick / Imagick. I've got this installed on the Server (running Centos 5.1), and can run convert --version and get the right info back. I can also run which convert which returns /usr/bin/convert However, phpThumb can't location the convert program - the demo's show that: (requires ImageMagick, this server is running "n/a" so it will not work) Does anyone have any pointers on how to fix this? So that whenever i have a new photo i can just stick it in a folder and have my swf file read from that folder and update the slideshow.   • Search Complexity of a Hashtable within a Hashtable?

    Say we have a hashtable of size m, and at each bucket we store a hashtable of size p. What would the worst case/average case search complexity be? I am inclined to say that since computing a hash function is still atomic, the only worst case scenario is if the value is at the end of the linked list in the hashtable of size p, so O(n)? I have no idea how to calculate the average case for this scenario and would appreciate any pointers!

  • Vague MVC and Castle Windsor question. Sorry...

    I have inheritted some code in which the MVC Controller classes all get their constructors called by Castle....DefaultProxyFactory.Create() somewhere along the line (the call stack drops out to the , which isn't helping.) So, basically, how would I go about finding out where Castle is being told how to call the constructors of my Controllers? I am very new to Castle, Windsor and MicroKernel, etc, and not a master of ASP's MVC. Many thanks for any pointers - sorry about the vagueness, Matt.
