• Using AdMob with Games that use Open GLES

  Can anyone help me integrating Admob to my game. I've used the badlogic framework by MarioZencher ... and My game is like the SuperJumper. I am unable to use AdMob after a lot of my attempts. I am new to android dev...please help me..I went thru a number of tutorials but not getting adds displayed ... The android:configChanges value of the com.google.ads.AdActivity must include screenLayout. The android:configChanges value of the com.google.ads.AdActivity must include uiMode. The android:configChanges value of the com.google.ads.AdActivity must include screenSize. The android:configChanges value of the com.google.ads.AdActivity must include smallestScreenSize. You must have AdActivity declared in AndroidManifest.xml with configChanges. You must have INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions in AndroidManifest.xml. Please help me by telling what wrong is there with the code? Can I write code only in xml files without changing the Activity class ... I will be very grateful to anyone providing support.

• Acer Aspire One 725 - missing graphic card driver?

  Recently I bought an Acer Aspire One 725 Netbook and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. I bought it, because it can run HD movies and has Full HD on external VGA port. However, movies from youtube have a really slow framerate. If you open three tabs in Opera (for example g-mail, youtube and askubuntu) it gets really laggy. My suspicion is that the driver for graphic card is missing. When I check the System->Details->Graphics the driver is unknown. After running lspci | grep VGA I get this output: 00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Device 980a From what I see, I have a AMD C70 processor integrated with (or something similar) AMD Radeon HD 6290. Has anyone had the same problem? Do you know which drivers need to be installed for the graphics to work properly? On official Acer page there are only drivers for Win7 and Win8... • Slick2D, Nifty GUI listeners problem

  I'm trying to get Nifty GUI to work with Slick2D. So far everything is going great, except that I can't seem to figure out how to properly interact with the GUI. I'm trying the example in the nifty manual http://sourceforge.n....0.pdf/download but it doesn't seem to entirely work. The Element controller is being called for bind(...), init(...) and onStartScreen() as it should, as I can see their println output, but the next() method isn't being called when I click on the GUI element that I assigned the controller to, nor the screen controller as no output from println is shown. What's weird is, that the player is moving, so the mouse input is working. It's supposed to be called when I click the mouse button on it from the in the XML. • Accounts in Work Items after migration to TFS 2010 and to new domain

  Lately I’ve been doing some tests on migrating our TFS 2008 installation to TFS 2010, coupled with a machine and domain change. One particular topic that was tricky is user accounts. We installed first a new machine with TFS 2010 and then migrated the projects in the old server. The work items were migrated with the projects. Great, but if I try to edit one of the old work items I cannot save it anymore because some fields contain old user names (ex. OLDDOMAIN\user) which are not known in the new domain (it should be NEWDOMAIN\user). The errors look like this: When I correct the ‘Assigned To’ field value, I get another error regarding another field: Before TFS 2010, we had TFSUsers power tool. It allow you to map an old user name to a new user name. This is not available anymore because WI fields with user accounts are now synchronized with AD display names changes (explained here). The correct way to go about this in TFS 2010 is to use TFSConfig Identities before adding the new domain accounts into the TFS groups (documented here). So, too late for us. I’ve found a (tedious) workaround to change those old account in work items in order to allow people to keep working with them. 1. Install TFS 2010 power tools 2. Export WIT from your project (VS | Tools | Process Editor | Work Item Types). Save the definition, for example: Original_MyProject_Task.xml 3. Copy the xml (NoReadOnly_MyProject_Task.xml) and edit it. From the field definition of ‘Activated By’, ‘Closed By’ and ‘Resolved By’, remove the following:        <WHENNOTCHANGED field="System.State">           <READONLY />         </WHENNOTCHANGED> 4. Import WIT in VS. Choose the new file (NoReadOnly_MyProject_Task.xml) and import it in MyProject 5. Open all tasks in Excel (flat list). Display the following columns: Asssigned To Activated By Closed By Resolved By Change the user accounts to the new ones (I usually sort each column alphabetically to make it easier). 6. Publish. If you get a conflict on a field, tough luck. You will have to manually choose “Local version” for each work item. I told you it was a tedious process. 7. Import original WIT (Original_MyProject_Task.xml) in MyProject. We only changed the WI definition so that we could change some fields. The original definition should be put back. And what about these other fields? Created By Authorized As These fields are not editable by definition (VS | Tools | Process Editor | Work Item Fields Explorer), even if they are not marked as read-only in the WIT. You can leave the old values. It doesn’t seem to matter to TFS. The other four fields are editable by definition, so only the WIT readonly rule prevents us from changing them. • WebLogic Server Performance and Tuning: Part II - Thread Management

  WebLogic Server, like any other java application server, provides resources so that your applications use them to provide services. Unfortunately none of these resources are unlimited and they must be managed carefully. One of these resources is threads which are pooled to provide better throughput and performance along with the fast response time and to avoid deadlocks. Threads are execution points that WebLogic Server delivers its power and execute work. Managing threads is very important because it may affect the overall performance of the entire system. In previous releases of WebLogic Server 9.0 we had multiple execute queues and user defined thread pools. There were different queues for different type of work which had fixed number of execute threads.  Tuning of this thread pools and finding the proper number of threads was time consuming which required many trials. WebLogic Server 9.0 and the following releases use a single thread pool and a single priority-based execute queue. All type of work is executed in this single thread pool. Its size (thread count) is automatically decreased or increased (self-tuned). The new “self-tuning” system simplifies getting the proper number of threads and utilizing them.Work manager allows your applications to run concurrently in multiple threads. Work manager is a mechanism that allows you to manage and utilize threads and create rules/guidelines to follow when assigning requests to threads. We can set a scheduling guideline or priority a request with a work manager and then associate this work manager with one or more applications. At run-time, WebLogic Server uses these guidelines to assign pending work/requests to execution threads. The position of a request in the execute queue is determined by its priority. There is a default work manager that is provided. The default work manager should be sufficient for most applications. However there can be cases you want to change this default configuration. Your application(s) may be providing services that need mixture of fast response time and long running processes like batch updates. However wrong configuration of work managers can lead a performance penalty while expecting improvement.We can define/configure work managers at;•    Domain Level: config.xml•    Application Level: weblogic-application.xml •    Component Level: weblogic-ejb-jar.xml or weblogic.xml(For a specific web application use weblogic.xml)We can use the following predefined rules/constraints to manage the work;•    Fair Share Request Class: Specifies the average thread-use time required to process requests. The default is 50.•    Response Time Request Class: Specifies a response time goal in milliseconds.•    Context Request Class: Assigns request classes to requests based on context information.•    Min Threads Constraint: Limits the number of concurrent threads executing requests.•    Max Threads Constraint: Guarantees the number of threads the server will allocate to requests.•    Capacity Constraint: Causes the server to reject requests only when it has reached its capacity. Let’s create a work manager for our application for a long running work.Go to WebLogic console and select Environment | Work Managers from the domain structure tree. Click New button and select Work manager and click next. Enter the name for the work manager and click next. Then select the managed server instances(s) or clusters from available targets (the one that your long running application is deployed) and finish. Click on MyWorkManager, and open the Configuration tab and check Ignore Stuck Threads and save. This will prevent WebLogic to tread long running processes (that is taking more than a specified time) as stuck and enable to finish the process.

• How can I include my derived class type name in the serialized JSON?

  Sometimes working with the js Serializer is easy, sometimes its not.   When I attempt to serialize an object that is derived from a base, the serializer decided whether or not to include the type name. When its present, the type name is represented by a ___type attribute in the serialized json like this: {"d":{"__type":"Commerce.Integration.Surfaces.OrderCreationRequest","RepId":0}} The missing type name is a problem if I intend to ship the object back into a web method that needs to deserialize the object.   Without the Type name, serialization will fail and result in a ugly web exception. The solution, which feels more like a work-around, is to explicitly tell the serializer to ALWAYS generate the type name for each derived type.  You make this declaration by adding a [GenerateScriptType())] attribute for each derived type to the top of the web page declaration.   For example, assuming I had 3 derivations of OrderCreationRequest; PersonalOrderCreationRequest, CompanyOrderCreationRequest, InternalOrderCreationRequestion, the code-behind for my web page would be decorated as follows: [GenerateScriptType(typeof(PersonalOrderCreationRequest))] [GenerateScriptType(typeof(CompanyOrderCreationRequest))] [GenerateScriptType(typeof(InternalOrderCreationRequest))] public partial class OrderMethods : Page { ... } With the type names generated in the serialized JSON, the serializer can successfully deserialize instances of any of these types passed into a web method. • What's is the point of PImpl pattern while we can use interface for same purpose in C++?

  I see a lot of source code which using PIMPL idiom in C++. I assume Its purposes are hidden the private data/type/implementation, so it can resolve dependence, and then reduce compile time and header include issue. But interface class in C++ also have this capability, it can also used to hidden data/type and implementation. And to hidden let the caller just see the interface when create object, we can add an factory method in it declaration in interface header. The comparison is: Cost: The interface way cost is lower, because you doesn't even need to repeat the public wrapper function implementation void Bar::doWork() { return m_impl->doWork(); }, you just need to define the signature in the interface. Well understand: The interface technology is more well understand by every C++ developer. Performance: Interface way performance not worse than PIMPL idiom, both an extra memory access. I assume the performance is same. • View all ntext column text in SQL Server Management Studio for SQL CE database

  I often want to do a "quick check" of the value of a large text column in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). The maximum number of characters that SSMS will let you view, in grid results mode, is 65535. (It is even less in text results mode.) Sometimes I need to see something beyond that range. Using SQL Server 2005 databases, I often used the trick of converting it to XML, because SSMS lets you view much larger amounts of text that way: SELECT CONVERT(xml, MyCol) FROM MyTable WHERE ... But now I am using SQL CE, and there is no Xml data type. There is still a "Maximum Characters Retreived XML" value under Options; I suppose this is useful when connecting to other data sources. I know I can just get the full value by running a little console app or something, but is there a way within SSMS to see the entire ntext column value? [Edit] OK, this didn't get much attention the first time around (18 views?!). It's not a huge concern, but maybe I'm just obsessed with it. There has to be some good way around this, doesn't there? So a modest bounty is active. What I am willing to accept as answers, in order from best-to-worst: A solution that works just as easy as the XML trick in SQL CE. That is, a single function (convert, cast, etc.) that does the job. A not-too-invasive way to hack SSMS to get it to display more text in the results. An equivalent SQL query (perhaps something that creatively uses SUBSTRING and generates multiple ad-hoc columns??) to see the results. The solution should work with nvarchar and ntext columns of any length in SQL CE from SSMS. Any ideas?

• Upgrade Your Existing BI Publisher 11g (11.1.1.3) to 11.1.1.5

  It’s already more than a month now since BI Publisher 11.1.1.5 was released at beginning of May. Have you already tried out many of the great new features? If you are already running on the first version of BI Publisher 11g (11.1.1.3) you might wonder how to upgrade the existing BI Publisher to the 11.1.1.5 version. There are two ways to do this, one is ‘Out-Place’ and another is ‘In-Place’. The ‘Out-Place’ would be quite simple. Basically you will need to install the whole BI or just BI Publisher standalone R11.1.1.5 at a different location then you can switch the catalog to the existing one so that all the reports will be there in the new 11.1.1.5 environment. But sometimes things are not that simple, you might have some custom applications or configuration on the original environment and you want to keep all of them with the upgraded environment. For such scenarios, there is the ‘In-Place’ upgrade, which overrides on top of the original environment only the parts relevant for BI and BI Publisher, and that’s what I’m going to talk about today. Here is the basic steps of the ‘In-Place’ upgrade. Upgrade WebLogic Server to 10.3.5 Upgrade BI System to 11.1.1.5 Upgrade Database Schema Re-register BI Components Upgrade FMW (Fusion Middleware) Configuration Upgrade BI Catalog There is a section that talks about this upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.1.5 as part of the overall upgrade document. But I hope my blog post summarized it and made it simple for you to cover only what’s necessary. Upgrade Document: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/bi.1111/e16452/bi_plan.htm#BABECJJH Before You Start Stop BI System and Backup I can’t emphasize enough, but before you start PLEASE make sure you take a backup of the existing environments first. You want to stop all WebLogic Servers, Node Manager, OPMN, and OPMN-managed system components that are part of your Oracle BI domains. If you’re on Windows you can do this by simply selecting ‘Stop BI Services’ menu. Then backup the whole system. Upgrade WebLogic Server to 10.3.5 Download WebLogic Server 10.3.5 Upgrade Installer With BI 11.1.1.3 installation your WebLogic Server (WLS) is 10.3.3 and you need to upgrade this to 10.3.5 before upgrading the BI part. In order to upgrade you will need this 10.3.5 upgrade version of WLS, which you can download from our support web site (https://support.oracle.com) You can find the detail information about the installation and the patch numbers for the WLS upgrade installer on this document. Just for your short cut, if you are running on Windows or Linux (x86) here is the patch number for your platform. Windows 32 bit: 12395517: Linux: 12395517 Upgrade WebLogic Server 1. After unzip the downloaded file, launch wls1035_upgrade_win32.exe if you’re on Windows. 2. Accept all the default values and keep ‘Next’ till end, and start the upgrade. Once the upgrade process completes you’ll see the following window. Now let’s move to the BI upgrade. Upgrade BI Platform to 11.1.1.5 with Software Only Install Download BI 11.1.1.5 You can download the 11.1.1.5 version from our OTN page for your evaluation or development. For the production use it’s recommended to download from eDelivery. 1. Launch the installer by double click ‘setup.exe’ (for Windows) 2. Select ‘Software Only Install’ option 3. Select your original Oracle Home where you installed BI 11.1.1.3. 4. Click ‘Install’ button to start the installation. And now the software part of the BI has been upgraded to 11.1.1.5. Now let’s move to the database schema upgrade. Upgrade Database Schema with Patch Assistant You need to upgrade the BIPLATFORM and MDS Schemas. You can use the Patch Assistant utility to do this, and here is an example assuming you’ve created the schema with ‘DEV’ prefix, otherwise change it with yours accordingly.   I'm trying to generate a blank docx file using Java, add some text, then write it to a BLOB that I can return to our document processing engine (a custom mess of PL/SQL and Java). I have to use the 1.4 JVM inside Oracle 10g, so no Java 1.5 stuff. I don't have a problem writing the docx to a file on my local machine, but when I try to write to BLOB, I'm getting garbage. Am I doing something dumb? Any help is appreciated. • Wix XmlFile is keeping SqlDatabase from creating databases

  I've got a Wix project made up of several fragments. One of those fragments has the database components, another has a component that manipulates xml files. When I include the XmlFile element to manipulate a file, the databases defined by the SqlDatabase do not get created. If I comment out the XmlFile, then the databases do get created. Is there a known bug here? Or am I doing something I shouldn't be? This isn't a killer for our app, since I can move the things I'm putting in the xml file into the registry, but I'd rather not do that. I am using Wix 3.5.

• activemq-maven-plugin ignore files in classpath?

  I have been trying to get activemq-maven-plugin to run activemq with configuration in classpath of the bundle. However, I don't have much luck. It seems that the activemq-maven-plugin just ignore resources (resources/main/conf/activemq.properties) the local bundle. I checked the jar and target/classes and they are built into the right local. I am able to get plugin to run (mvn activemq:run) if I take out the PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer bean in the activemq.xml Did I do anything wrong?
