I am looking for a similar way to change background of the start screen and also the login screen where you answer the password without using any 3rd party software Basically I want to know if there's some hidden toggle for that in the OS somewhere and that anyone is aware of it.

    I have a Windows 7 computer which have a strange behavior: when preview is enabled in explorer, I double-click on any Word document, Word is launched, the document is loaded, and immediatly explorer is in the foreground window (so Word is in the background). The whole process take less than one second. Only with Word. Not Excel or anything. Only on one computer (5 others are identical and installed the same day).

    One thing that's always annoyed me about windows XP is how there's no "scale" option for the desktop background. It either has to be stretched or centered. It's a pretty simple algorithm to scale the image so that one of the dimensions (usually height) fits on the screen. Does anyone know of a good program that does this, or is there a way to enable it?

  • CSS background-images and Z-Index problem

    Hope someone has an easy answer on this. I have a header image which is just a 75px high gradient with a fade on the bottom. I have it set as the background image on my header and I want to throw in a left-sidebar on my page. There is a transparency on the header image and when I have my sidebar I can't get it to sit behind the header. You can see in this screenshot: link text The green sidebar won't "sit" behind the header. I have the header z-index set to 99 and the sidebar to 1. I tried the reverse to make sure I didn't mix up my numbers but that didn't work. Both are absolutely positioned. I'm attaching their CSS selectors in the hopes someone has an easy answer.     I'm trying to set the size of my background to be a little shorter than the default, creating some space between the cells. This has proven to be difficult.   • PyQt WebKit CSS background image not showing

    I'm making a Twitter client with PyQt, which uses WebKit to draw the tweet list. Now I'm trying to use CSS to set a background image in the WebKit widget - but the image won't show up. This is the relevant part of the CSS: body { background-image: url("gradient2.jpg"); } The file name is correctly spelled, and it is located in the same directory as the Python program, which is also where I start the program from (so the image file should be in PWD). To check if WebKit somehow looks for the image in the wrong directory anyway, I ran my program through strace, which creates a log of all system calls made by the program. And surprisingly, the name of the image does not appear in the log - so it seems as if WebKit doesn't even try to find it. To verify that my CSS is used at all by WebKit, I tried changing it to a solid background color instead of an image: body { background: #CCFFCC; } And that works. So I know that the CSS is used, that's not the problem. Could it be that WebKit refuses to use "ordinary" files in the filesystem, and that I somehow have to create some sort of "resource" file containing my image in Qt Designer?

  • BackgroundColor of UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle labels ??!?

    I am trying to create a table with an image as a background. To achieve this, I started out with the background: self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor groupTableViewBackgroundColor]; This resulted in a background image which appears in tablecells as well. That is not something I want, so I tried to set the cell's backgroundColor: cell.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; This had no effect at all !!!. Hmmm strange. So I tried this: UIView *backgroundView = [[UIView alloc] init]; backgroundView.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; cell.backgroundView = backgroundView; [backgroundView release]; This works almost. The only problem left is that the textLabel & the detailTextLabel still show the background behind them. Setting the backgroundColor on those labels to white doesn't do anything either. How do I proceed? Where do I go wrong? I am trying to achieve a tableView like the worldClock app has.

  • CSS background image being downloaded more than once

    I noticed in my current project that Firefox (3.5.4) downloads the background image (set in CSS) for my divs more than once. I've checked with both firebug and wireshark and it really does appear that it does not wait for the first request to finish and then simply use the cached version. Wireshark also confirms that Chrome and IE8 do as expected and only request the image once. Any ideas what might be causing this?     I have a menu composed of a single image (e.g., sprites). In order to display the hover image, I simply move the background image down. I'd like this effect to be controlled by jQuery and animated. This is a sample menu item. <ul> <li id="home"><a href="#"></a></li> </ul> This is what I'm toying with.   • HTML + CSS: fixed background image and body width/min-width (including fiddle)

    So, here is my problem. I'm kinda stuck at the moment. I have a huge background image and content in the middle with those attributes: content is centered with margin auto and has a fixed width the content is related to the image (like the image is continued within the content) this relation is only horizontally (vertically scrolling moves everything around) This works actually fine (I'm only talking desktop, not mobile here :) ) with a position fixed on the huge background image. The problem that occurs is the following: When I resize the window to "smaller than the content" the background image gets it width from the body instead of the viewport. So the relation between content and image gets lost. Now I have this little JavaScript which does the trick, but this is of course some overhead I want to avoid: $(window).resize(function(){ img.css('left', (body.width() - img.width()) / 2 ); }); This works with a fixed positioned image, but can get a litty jumpy while calculating. I also tried things like that: <div id="test" style=" position: absolute; z-index: 0; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%: height: 100%; background: transparent url(content/dummy/brand_backgroud_1600_1.jpg) no-repeat fixed center top; "></div> But this gets me back to my problem described. Is there any "script-less", elegant solution for this problem?     Hello, I want to set background of a grid using a style. I style I'm setting the Background Property of the grid. But I have a border filled with LinearGradientFill and a Path which also has LinearGradientFill in it. But I'm not able to combine both. Below is sample code. I also tried to remove width attribute from the div which contains 2nd background image, then get the windows size and add the difference to the container div as left attribute with Jquery. It worked fine in all IE versions but this time not on Chrome here is a print screen any ideas please?

I need a way to do this dynamically so I won't have to do it for each of the 10 buttons. Hope I was clear, thanks in advance

    Hi all. Please be gentle, I'm still learning. I imagine that the solution to my problem is simple and that perhaps I have just been in front of the computer too long. I am trying to detect the size of the viewport, and then use a different sized image for a background on an element depending on the size of the viewport. Two questions: Am I going about solving the problem in a sensible way? To me a simple conditional should solve this background problem, as the code is merely selecting between two images based on what size it detects the viewport to be. Can you please help point out my n00b syntax error? Sometimes it really does help to have an extra pair of eyes look at something like this, even if small. Thank you kindly for your advice, I will continue poking and perusing the docs I have available to me.

The code works on Chrome(Android + PC) and even the stock Android browser, but NOT Firefox(Android + PC). Is there any good alternative to it? Why is it not working anyways? Googled this issue a lot of times, but no one else seems to have this problem. Is it just me? In any case, how do I fix it? There are quite some questions on SO about it too, but none of them provide a legitimate solution, so can someone just tell me if they have background-size: cover; issues on firefox too? So basically tell me 3 things: 1. Why is it happening? 2. What is a good alternative to it? 3. Is this happening to you too? On Firefox browsers of course.   • iPhone SDK File Handler with iOS 4 Background Processes

    The "application:applicationDidFinishLaunchingWithOptions:" message does not get called when an application is sitting in the background in iOS 4, and I'm trying to figure out how to be notified when the application is brought back into the foreground by another application. My application registers itself as a handler for certain file types, and Safari and other supported applications allow passing the files over to my app. This works great if the app is closed before I try to use it, but fails otherwise. In my application:applicationDidFinishLaunchingWithOptions: I have: NSURL *url = (NSURL *)[launchOptions valueForKey:UIApplicationLaunchOptionsURLKey]; if([url isFileURL]) { } [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; As stated already, this works great so far for starting the app when it's not sitting in the background - but when I switch back over to Safari or Mail and try to open a new file that is supported, my application wakes up from the background and becomes active again but I can't see any "withOptions" overrides for application:applicationWillEnterForeground: or any way to identify what was passed in when it enters the foreground. What would be the appropriate way to receive these "open file notifications" when the application is in the background?
