  • Sendmail background process sometimes processes queue, but sendmail -q always works

    I'm using sendmail version 8.14.4 on Fedora 15 to send email. My Rails app uses delayed_job to queue up emails. Messages will queue up in /var/spool/mqueue as expected, but don't always get processed. I can see the messages and sendmail is definitely running in the background. Restarting the process does nothing. However, when I issue the sendmail -q command, sendmail gets to work and starts sending. The really odd thing is that this behavior only occurs sometimes. Other times message queue up and are delivered as expected. I've tried tweaking various sendmail configs to reduce the time between queue processing (for example, adding define('confMIN_QUEUE_AGE', '0')dnl to /etc/mail/sendmail.mc), but nothing seems to do the trick. Any ideas what might be the root cause?

  • Shut Down took way too long because of "Background Programs"

    I tried shutting my desktop PC (with Windows7) down but after several attempts (like 4 or 5) at Start -- Shut Down, the GUI was still there and it was not shutting down. I didn't think there were any programs running when I pressed Shut Down, so I went into the taskbar (Ctrl + Alt + Del) to check out the processes. Once I did that, a screen appeared with a message stating that there are "background programs" still running and it gave me an option to "Force Shut Down" which I pressed and it shut down normally. Does anyone know why this would happen?

  • Shell Script Launching Child Processes

    Disclaimer: I'm totally new to shell scripting, but have quite a bit of experience in other languages like PHP and Obj-C. I'm writing my first daemon script. Here are the goals: I want it to run in the background I want it to be triggered by an init.d script that includes start/stop/restart commands I want each process in a loop to trigger its own subprocess. When the parent process kicked off by the init.d script is killed, I want the subprocesses to die as well. Essentially, I'm looking for the same kind of behavior that appears to be very common among software like apache, spamd, dovecot, etc. But, based on my research, I haven't found a single, simple answer as to how this kind of thing is achieved. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to retain background colors when pasting between documents in Excel

    I have a script that programatically generates excel spreadsheets - cleaning up ugly reports that are given to us from another organisation. For interests sake; I'm using PHPExcel to generate the "clean" reports. We get these reports every week for an event that happens every couple of months. The reports contain a list of attendees along with a group id that allows us to know that some attendees belong together. To help the event organisers out, I've taken the event ID and generated a unqiue color code (based on the hash of the event ID - truncated to 6 characters). This unique colour code is set as the background color of a cell in each row. This helps organisers quickly visually identify group members. Trouble is, when the organisers copy the rows from the weeks report into the master report (which contains all attendees, not just the ones that signed up this week) - all the colour-codes snap to the master template's color pallette.     I'm about to go choose a dual monitor setup: 1) Is there any reason why I can't just walk out and buy the two TFT screens I like (a wide screen and a 'portrait' screen) and combine them? Mainly wide screen would be for gaming, and portrait for browsing. I'd want the desktop stretching from one to the other (ie drag pointer, apps from one screen to the other) 2) Also do I need separate gfx cards for each monitor or can one cover both? any performance cost? 3) And can I have separate background images for each, seeing as they'll be different resolutions?

    Hi, I'm trying to print a php generated document in Chrome. On the browser it looks fine, but my printer will not print any coloured backgrounds. I know that IE has an option to print background but Chrome does not. As the end user will print this off, I do not want to find alternatives like a screen grab or save file etc. I want to find a real solution to this.   • Different background color for multiple filetypes in vim

    Is it possible to have different background colors in vim (ie. one light, one dark) when dealing with files with multiple filetypes (ie. :set ft=html.php)? In PHP code with HTML embedded, it can be difficult to see one single PHP statement amongst dozens of HTML lines, see below. I'll settle for anything, be it different bg color, a marker in the margin, a second left margin (one vim plugin does this for marks), maybe highlighting the <?php tag for example (although that's less than ideal) EDIT: I don't think this is possible at the syntax level as the syntax appears to use a limited number of elements (String, Function, Identifier...). This is no doubt to allow for the easy integration with colorschemes. SyntaxAttr is a good plugin to demonstrate this. Put it over any part of the code and it will tell you what syntax group it belongs to.

  • I can't remove a background image in Powerpoint 2007

    Hello Everyone! I have a Powerpoint 2007 document. There is this annoying background graphic in my Powerpoint slide. I know about slide master, but this little bugger is not something that I can delete from slide master. Argh!!!!   • Unable to use autossh in background even with absolute path

    I would love to set autossh to run at boot adding it to /etc/rc.local. This command works: autossh -i /root/.ssh/id_rsa -R 2522:localhost:22 user@address But, if I add the -f option autossh -f -i /root/.ssh/id_rsa -R 2522:localhost:22 user@address The ssh session is not started. As you can see, I'm using an absolute path for my identity file, so this seems to be a different problem from the one stated here: autossh in background does not work From /var/log/syslog: Oct 18 11:08:39 raspberrypi autossh[2417]: starting ssh (count 1) Oct 18 11:08:39 raspberrypi autossh[2417]: ssh child pid is 2418 Oct 18 11:08:39 raspberrypi autossh[2417]: ssh exited with status 0; autossh exiting I'm using it with debian wheezy on a raspberry pi, autossh version 1.4c. Could it be that it's passing the -f option to ssh instead?

  • Am I using too much memory? (Rails on EC2 with Resque)

    I am searching for a tool that allows background recording of my pc screen. I it is nothing like a spy tool, I just need to be able to check what I was doing at the some time in the past. Small impact on the system, and relatively small size of recordings, as it is supposed to run all time pc is turned on. Some recording management as auto pruning of recordings older than x days. UPD This is not a problem if some scripting is necessary to achieve what is described in the question. So it could be a command line recording tool which could be used from batch, bash (cygwin, mingw) scripts.

  • I want to DEACTIVATE the window's focus, please help me

    I want to disable something for a specific window : the window's ability to get activated or focused. Everytime a window gets a focus or it gets activated( ex: when you click on it ) ,the window appears the top most of all windows. So I want to stay forever in the 'background'. And to do this , maybe I need somehow to remove the possibily of having focus for that windows... EDIt: I know the window can be hided or minimized but I need it displayed on the monitor. Can this be possible, please help me, thankyou so much!

  • Windows 7 Desktop slideshow

    I have my windows 7 (Home Professional if it matters) set to automatically change the background every 20 minutes with the source of the slideshow as a folder in the Pictures library. Recently, the slideshow has not been functioning. The pictures do not change while the computer is on; they only seem to change when it is shut down (i.e. there is a different desktop on each boot), or about 50% of the time when waking the computer from hibernation. I've changed the time settings, the folder location on the drive, and made sure to disable all programs that tweak the desktop with no luck. Any thoughts?

    I'm looking for the best way to change the background color of an NSView. I'd also like to be able to set the appropriate alpha mask for the NSView. Something like: myView.backgroundColor = [NSColor colorWithCalibratedRed:0.227f green:0.251f blue:0.337 alpha:0.8]; I notice that NSWindow has this method, and I'm not a big fan of the NSColorWheel, or NSImage background options, but if they are the best, willing to use.
