  • Network connection on an Acer Aspire 5253?

    Brand new to Ubuntu and PCs for that matter. I've been a Mac user all my life but wanted to try Ubuntu on the cheap, so I bought an Acer Laptop 5253-BZ893 and i got Ubuntu 10.10 installed with no problem. The only problem i have is, that i get no network connection options, wired or wireless. I just get No Network Devices Available. The computer came with Windows 7 installed and i am able to connect to my wireless network fine using Windows, so i know the computer works. Also i've been searching forums and google for hours trying to figure out why I can't get a network connection in Ubuntu but so far no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  • Can't control connection bit rate using iwconfig with Atheros TL-WN821N (AR7010)

    I'm trying to reduce the connection bit rate on my Atheros TP-Link TL-WN821N v3 usb wifi adapter due to frequent instability issues (reported connection speed goes down to 1Mb/s and I have to physically reconnect the adapter to regain a connection). I know this is a common problem with this device, and I have tried everything I can think of to fix it, including using drivers from linux-backports; compiling and installing a custom firmware (following instructions on https://wiki.debian.org/ath9k_htc#fw-free) and (as a last resort) using ndiswrapper. When using ndiswrapper, the wifi adapter is stable and operates in g mode at 54Mb/s (whilst when using the default ath9k_htc module, the adapter connects in n mode and the bit rate fluctuates constantly). Unfortunately, with this setup I have to run my processor using only one core, since using SMP with ndiswrapper causes a kernel oops on my system. So I want to lock my bit rate to 54Mb/s (or less, if need be) for connection stability, using the ath9k_htc module. I've tried 'sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M'; the command runs with no error but when I check the bit rate with 'sudo iwlist wlan0 bitrate' the command returns: wlan0 unknown bit-rate information.   • Removing unused profiles from Windows network connections

    Can't figure this one out. When you connect to a wireless network (like an ad-hoc), it'll create a networkname 1 connection. After something changes, it makes a networkname 2 connection. And this goes on and on. Now I'm at connection ~23, at the home connection I'm at ~2 and ~5. Is there a way to clean these out? Couldn't find where Win stores such profiles.

    I Need to create connection between ios to windows by using socket programming in ios. I'm trying to to use an application to communicate with Windows via sockets. At the minimum, I'm trying to at least figure out how I can create a connection from the iPhone (maybe using the iPhone to ping the Windows machine?) I'm not really clear on where I need to start. I'm pretty new to iOS development in general, and brand new to socket/network programming. I've tried several tutorials that haven't gotten me far. My goal is: Connect to a server via sockets (the server will be a Windows machine with a service waiting for incoming connections from the iPhone) If possible, I would like to write/build the client piece first, but I have been lost thus far. Hopefully the nice folks in the SO community can lend a hand and point me in the right direction.

  • Using Virtualbox Bridge Networking fails connection from Guest OS to Oracle XE running on Host

    I am trying to make a JDBC connection from a VirtualBox Ubuntu Guest OS to an Oracle XE database running o Host. However, the connection is refused. Here are the details of my environment: VirtualBox: 4.1.4 Host OS: Windows 7 Guest OS: Ubuntu server 11.4 Networking mode: Bridged network Oracle XE database running on Host Issue: WebLogic server runs on the Ubuntu virtualbox. It attempts to connect to an Oracle XE database running on the Host OS (windows 7) with listening port 1521. On the Guest OS (Ubuntu), I am able to ping the Host computer from the Guest OS. However, when I configured a JDBC data source on the WebLogic server on the Guest OS to connect to the Oracle XE, connection took a long time, and eventually I received an "IO Exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection". When I tried "telnet host-ip 1521", no connection was established. With Bridge networking, I can make bi-directional connections between the host and the guest OS (e.g. connection through ssh and ftp). Is there anything I missed in the setup of Bridge networking and the guest/host OS? Note that I was able to make the same connection within a normal networking environment (i.e. not using virtual box). I am not sure whether Bridge networking is a good option for the work described above. Should I use host-only networking mode? If so, any specific configurations I need to perform? I read through the Virtual box document on setting up the host-only network, however, it lacks of details. I followed the procedures described in the manual, and couldn't even connect to the host.     I created a method "UPLPAD2" to upload file to server. Splitting my file to packets(10MB). It's OK (100%). But when i call getInputStream, i get FileNotFoundException.     I have wireless Internet access and it worked well on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS until today, when I installed updates from the Update Manager. After the reloading of the computer the sign of Internet disappeared and the Internet connection stopped working. I went to the Network section of the System settings and got such a message: The system network services are not compatible with this version. ping 8.8.8.8 gives the result Network is unreachable. What should I do?

    I'm with some problems with my internet with oscillations in connection, causing some sites to get "Not Found" page sometimes. This isn't all the time, just some random times daily. My question is. There is any tool to monitor these basic information (ping, upload and download) daily to make an report and check the oscillations? Because, if someone from internet provider come at my house, probably it won't see the oscillations. Thanks, bye

    Good day! I have installed ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop and I need to have network connection on it. Have a desktop PC, where I've created ad-hoc wi-fi network(Windows 7) and can't connect to it. So, problem: I see my network in the list of networks to connect, but I cant connect to it because it's grey color and not active(can't click on it). Could somebody help me to solve that problem?   • getting Internet connection sharing working in a slightly more complicated configuration

    I have the following configuration: Computer A - Mac OSX 10.8.4, wireless & wired adapters Computer B - Windows 7 (64 bit), wireless & wired adapters, has internet connection via the wired adapter (ethernet) d-link wired/wireless router. Problem to solve: Connect from computer A to the internet through the wired connection of computer B. I tried the following: I set up a local network between A and B using the d-link router. The configuration is this: D-link router - 192.168.0.1 A - wired connection to the d-link router, static 192.168.0.101 (I could have used the wireless but I preferred the wired connection) B - wireless connection to the d-link router DHCP 192.168.0.102 (but I made sure it always gets the same address) B - wired connection to the internet using some address that begins with 10.x.y.z. In this configuration A can see B. I enabled ICS on the wired adapter of B. I set up the Gateway of A to point to B and DNS servers to point to the DNS servers specified for the 10.x.y.z address. It doesn't work, A goes only as far as B. It can ping the 10.x.y.z address of B though. I then found this article: http://terrybritton.com/windows-internet-connection-sharing-ics-not-working-with-linux-bridging-is-the-solution-916/. Terry is suggesting that a bridge should be defined on B between the two connections. I tried that but basically computer B is screwed as soon as I create the bridge. It can't connect to the internet anymore. It is as if the network bridge seems to think the traffic to the internet should go from the wired connection to the wireless and not the other way around. The other thing that puzzles me is the router itself. In general the router needs an internet address. In a normal configuration it is the router that gets the ip address and the internet traffic goes through the router. In my case I am not interested in that. So, any suggestions to get this working? I wouldn't shy away from using a commercial software but I would think windows 7 should allow me to do it. Thanks

    I can enable a Local Area Network interface for my machine with the command netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" ENABLED Is there an equivalent command to connect a bluetooth network connection? I've tried netsh interface set interface "Bluetooth" ENABLED but it seems to have no effect, the connection remains disconnected. I also tried netsh interface set interface "Bluetooth" connect=CONNECTED but this returns One or more essential parameters not specified I know this Bluetooth connection is otherwise ok since I am able to connect using Control Panel Network Connections, right-clicking on Bluetooth Connect.
