  • Explicit disable MySQL query cache in some parts of program

    In a Django project, some cronjob programs are mainly used for administrative or analysis purposes, e.g. generating site usage stats, rotating user activities log, etc. We probably do not hope MySQL to cache queries in those programs to save memory usage and improve query cache efficiency. Is it possible to turn off MySQL query cache explicitly in those programs while keep it enabled for other parts including all views.py?

    How do I install snippets in django? (specifically this) I have the file /{project}/snippets/EnforceLoginMiddleware.py and I have tried any number of permutations inside MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES to load it as well as googling django snippets install to no avail :( Any help would be grateful :) PS(Why can't I find any documentation or examples on the installation of snippets. Maybe I'm just a bad googler)

    i have a model using m2m feature: class Classroom(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User, related_name = 'classroom_creator') classname = models.CharField(max_length=140, unique = True) date = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True) open_class = models.BooleanField(default=True) members = models.ManyToManyField(User,related_name="list of invited members", through = 'Membership') and i want to take all members of one class in a view and display them using the template system. In the view, i'm trying to take all the members from a classroom like that: def inside_classroom(request,classname): try: theclass = Classroom.objects.get(classname = classname) members = Members.objects.all() etc but it doesn't work,(though the db_table is named Classroom_Members) i guess i have to use another query for getting all the members from the classroom classname. also, i want to verify if the request.user is a member using (if request.user in members) how can i het those members?   • Django query - join on the same table

    i have a mini blog app, and a 'timeline' . there i want to be displayed all the posts from all the friends of a user, plus the posts of that user himself. For that, i have to make some kind of a 'join' between the results of two queries (queries on the same table) , so that the final result will be the combination of the user - posesor of the account, and all his friends. My query looks like this: blog = New.objects.filter(created_by = following,created_by = request.user) By that ',' i wanted to make a 'join' -i found something like this on a doc- but this method is not correct- i'm getting an error. How else could be done this 'join' ? Thanks!

  • How do I get django comments to join on auth_user

    I'm using the django comments framework, and when I list the comments I want to include some of the information stored in auth_user. However, I find I need an extra query for each comment to get the user info. I tried using select_related() when I pull the comments, but this doesn't help. Is there a reason that it's not joining the auth_user table, and is there any way to force it to?

    OK, so I have two tables I'm working with - project and service, simplified thus: project ------- id PK name str service ------- project_id FK for project time_start int (timestamp) time_stop int (timestamp) One-to-Many relationship. Now, I want to return (preferably with one query) a list of an arbitrary number of projects, sorted by the total amount of time spent at them, which is found by SUM(time_stop) - SUM(time_start) WHERE project_id = something. So far, I have SELECT project.name FROM service LEFT JOIN project ON project.id = service.project_id LIMIT 100 but I cannot figure out how what to ORDER BY.

I don't want to rely on obfuscated file id's (giving a photo a UUID of a long number) and count on that being hidden in my media folder. How would I store a photo securely on disk in my database and only stream it out to an authenticated session?

    I'm working on getting django-haystack set up on my site, and am trying to have snippets in my search results roughly like so: Title of result one about Wikis ...this special thing about wiki values is that...I always use a wiki when I walk...snippet value three talks about wikis too...and here's another snippet value about wikis. I know there's a template tag for highlighting, but how do you generate the snippets themselves? I know Solr generates these, but I can't figure out how to get them from Haystack.

    My application has two node types: a parent node which can hold recursive child nodes. Think of it like the post-comment system in SO, but comments can be recursive: parent_1 child_11 child_12 child_121 child_3 parent_2 child_21 child_211 child_2111 Important to note that the parent nodes have different attributes and behavior than the child nodes. What is the correct (and presumably most efficient) way of modeling this relationship in Django?
