I get here:http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12696 I click to download, I get redirected to Cisco, I create an account, try to download again and they tell me that I need to have a valid technical support agreement to get access to the software. Really? How do they expect us to VPN into client networks?

  • What is the real meaning of the "Select a language [for] non-Unicode programs..." dialog?

    What is the real meaning of the "Select a language to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs you want to use" dialog under Control Panel-Regional Settings-Advanced in WinXP and Win2003? According to the dialog text, Windows will use this to display the resource strings such as menus. The treatment of text files is application-specific, so this setting will not affect that. But can I expect any other change in behavior from this setting? Any insights into what is really going wrong?

  • Updating Network Solutions Virtual Private Server

    Just got a VPS from Network Solutions, it's got Red Hat 4, PHP 5.16, Java 1.4, no Yum and a whole bunch of packages I'd expect to have from a fresh install. Anyway, obviously I sound like a spoiled Ubunutoligist, but do I seriously have to manually update all this stuff, is there a shortcut, I'm used to Fedora, so I'm not sure what the differences are between using Yum in Redhat and Fedora. Should I just demand that Network Solutions give me a server that's not 4 years old or is there a way to update this thing that won't take all week?

  • Sorting by Folder and Received in Outlook 2010

    I want to sort my Unread Mail folder by Folder and within that by Recieved (oldest on top). I've found that by clicking the "In Folder" header, holding down Shift and clicking Received twice I can get the sort I want but if I leave that view (for example checking the calendar) and then return that the sort order has not kept things as I expect. Looking in the View Settings Sort it shows "In Folder (ascending), Received (ascending)" but that doesn't create the same view as using the shift button...

  • Package managers for Windows

    You might be familiar with Ninite. What I'd like to know is if there are good alternatives to that software for Windows. The features I expect: installs the latest version of software supports 64 bit installs where possible strips ads/toolbars/similar stuff provides a way to keep the programs updated after installation if I can add custom installers to the software, that's a big plus. Any ideas if such a program exists?

  • install php on server08 manaully

    Looking to install php on a 08 box already holding iis/sql box. I've tried the webinstaller a couple times but the installer locks before completion or managing to echo any sort of error message. Before hunting down a manual install how-to i wonder if the box is trying to tell me something i should be paying attention to. PHP running alongside IIS _must be supported or one would expect that error message to be kinda high on the list. any gochas to beware of? thx

  • windows 8 network cant connect to other computers

    we just setup a windows 7 ultimate file server, and all the other computers on the network, found the server expect the windows 8 computer. computers on the network: vista, win 7 ultimate, mac os, win 8 (problem) I setup a homegroup on the win 7 server pc, but the windows 8 computer can't find the homegroup, nor can it connect to the server by typing its network ext //server-pc i've tried to turn on all the windows 8 sharing to discovery ON, on Private and Public and all Networks, and got nothing. should be noted that the computer is using norton firewall/AV, im not sure if that's a factor

  • Is null return path reliable indication of a bounce?

    I have a mailbox that receives bounces as well as normal email (the latter includes messages from automated services). I want to filter out the bounces and forward them to another mailbox. Assume I cannot change the envelope return path in email I send. Is “null return path” a reliable criterion to tell bounces from normal mail? Roughly how many false positives and false negatives can I expect if I apply it?

  • Tool for making fn-x buttons work? Archlinux, handler.sh

    This just seems like such a normal thing to work. I know that this works out of the box on Ubuntu. But not in Archlinux. I would like to think that there is a tool in existence that would use acpi_listen to create a step by step way to enable all of the fn buttons on the keyboard. Everything works expect fn-F10(mute), fn-F11(s-down), fn-F12(s-up). How can I make the sound buttons work?

    I am looking for a way to automatically define some aliases inside my session on any server I ssh to. I can't put them in the .bashrc files on the server because the user accounts I log in with are shared by other people and besides there are dozens of them and maintaining a script on every machine would be painful. I know I could use expect to type the aliases automatically but I was just wondering if OpenSSH has anything built-in that could conceivably be used to achieve this?

  • Roughly how long should an "ALTER TABLE" take on an 1.3GB INNODB table?

    I'm trying to optimize a table that hasn't been optimized in a long time. It has around 2.5 million rows with 1.3 GB of data and a 152 MB index. I started optimizing it about 15 minutes ago and I have no idea how long it will take. The server is reasonably robust (quad xeon with 4GB ram) and has a 500MB innodb buffer pool size. Should I expect this to take minutes, hours or days?

  • Pasting images into gmail from clipboard, shows fine when sent, but arrives as text

    I have had consistent problems with pasting images into Gmail. I use Firefox (just in case that is relevant, but I wouldn't expect so). The image displays fine as I write it. But when it arrives at my family members Gmail account, it is being displayed in some base64 encoded form as many pages of text with a beginning like: img src="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAA..... On the receiving end I cannot get the images to display properly.

    I'm interested in installing a custom driver / device that will open a socket (or listen) and stream audio via TCP/IP in both Windows and Linux. I would like to be able to specify this device as my "Output" for specific applications so that I can route my audio through a completely unique machine (for example, in complex Synergy setups where my headphones might be connected to one machine, but audio is being generated by another.) In Linux, I expect this to be very easy, but I anticipate having to install a custom driver in Windows.

    I have umpteen backups trying to restore my scripts I had in the netlogon share but when I go to them the folder is empty. Does backup not back those scripts in netlogon up? Is there somewhere I should expect to see the files at besides c:\winnt\sysvol\sysvol\mydomain\scripts? Thank you for any help.

    How much of a real-world performance gain would you expect from: replacing a 5400rpm IDE HD with a 7200rpm IDE HD? replacing a 5400rpm IDE HD with a SATA-150? It's assumed that the drive in question is both the system drive and the only drive. A modest AMD Sempron-based home computer with adequate DDR memory running Windows XP Home SP3.   • recently used programs stopped updating Vista Home Premium 64

    For some reason my list of recently used programs has stopped updating. Any program that I "pin" to the start menu remains, but where you would normally expect to see the recent programs is just blank space. What setting do you think could have changed?   • Daemon process exiting when shell closes

    I have a script which starts a daemon process and then sleeps for 20 seconds. If I run the script on SLES11 SP1 or RHEL6 then after the script exits the process is still running. If I run the script on SLES11 SP3 or RHEL6.3 then after the script exits the process is no longer running. The process continues to run for the entire 20 second sleep and is killed when the process exits. The script is run via expect so the script's entire shell exits with the process. Obviously if this wasn't a daemon it was starting I wouldn't be surprised. Also, I suspect the problem isn't the OS version as much as it is the difference in the way we've setup the newer servers (no idea what those differences are though, the older servers were set up years ago). During the 20 seconds the process runs if I do a ps I get the following: root 4699 1 0 15:14 pts/2 00:00:00 sudo -u openmq /opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/imqbrokerd -bgnd -autorestart -silent -port 7676 -Dimq.service.activelist=admin,ssljms -D openmq 4701 4699 0 15:14 pts/2 00:00:00 /bin/sh /opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/imqbrokerd -bgnd -autorestart -silent -port 7676 -Dimq.service.activelist=admin,ssljms -Dimq.ssl The fact that the parent process of 4699 is 1 seems to suggest to me that the process has been correctly daemonized. However, after the expect script exits both 4699 and 4701 are killed. What could be causing this? UPDATE I've printed the same output on the servers that work. During the 20 second sleep I get: openmq 18652 1 0 15:44 pts/1 00:00:00 /bin/sh /opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/imqbrokerd -bgnd -autorestart -silent -port 7676 -Dimq.service.activelist=admin,ssljms -Dimq.ssljms.tls.port=7680 openmq 18686 18652 8 15:44 pts/1 00:00:02 /usr/java/latest/bin/java -cp /opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/../lib/imqbroker.jar:/opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/../lib/imqutil.jar:/opt/PacketPortal/ope After the 20 second sleep I get: openmq 18652 1 0 15:44 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh /opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/imqbrokerd -bgnd -autorestart -silent -port 7676 -Dimq.service.activelist=admin,ssljms -Dimq.ssljms.tls.port=7680 openmq 18686 18652 5 15:44 ? 00:00:02 /usr/java/latest/bin/java -cp /opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/../lib/imqbroker.jar:/opt/PacketPortal/openmq/default/bin/../lib/imqutil.jar:/opt/PacketPortal/ope After the script exits it disconnects the controlling terminal. I wonder why it doesn't do that on the newer servers. UPDATE Here is the section of the script that actually launches OpenMQ. The -bgnd flag is what is supposed to daemonize it. sudo -u openmq $IMQ_HOME/bin/$EXECUTABLE -bgnd $BROKER_OPTIONS $ARGS > /dev/null 2>&1 &

  • Tape vs SSDs backups regarding long-term storage reliability

    My question is very specifically about solid state drives, not regular hard drives. I would like to put in place a grandfather-father-son backup scheme, with the SSDs being used for the grandfather and father portions, and the yearly grandfather would be locked in a safe offsite for maybe 5-10 years. Can I expect that after this period of time the data would be preserved as well as it would be on a tape?
