    To install Maven, I downloaded the latest version from the website and then followed these steps: http://maven.apache.org/download.html#Installation The last step, the version control, does not work. It says that 'mvn' is currently not installed and that I should type sudo apt-get install maven2 If I go directly to the mvn file itself, it does work: root@ubuntu:~# /usr/local/apache-maven/apache-maven-2.2.1/bin/mvn --version Apache Maven 2.2.1 (r801777; 2009-08-06 12:16:01-0700) Java version: 1.6.0_21 Java home: /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21/jre Default locale: en_US, platform encoding: UTF-8 OS name: "linux" version: "2.6.32-25-generic" arch: "i386" Family: "unix" So, what am I doing wrong here?     I've recently bought a refurbished Toshiba Satellite A660 11M and I get the blue screen of death appearing fairly frequently now, and I can't seem to work out why or how to prevent/cure it. Firstly I thought it was due to Zone Alarm from what I read on the net, but then I thought it was a memory issue after it crashed whilst I was running Memtest. But after I ran Memtest a second time, it completed without any errors...   • How to get HTTP preseed to work correctly on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid)?

    Installation media: ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso I tried a lot of different boot parameters, but either the installer ignored the preseed configuration, or it boot itself directly as LiveCD. An example of the boot parameters I've tried: auto url=http://mydomain.com/path/preseed.cfg boot=casper only-ubiquity initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- If I remove only-ubiquity, it boots as a LiveCD. If I remove boot=casper, it won't boot. If I add vga=normal locale=en_US console-setup/layoutcode=us console-setup/ask_detect=false interface=auto, it still can't do automatic install. If I remove auto, it's the same. What is the correct boot parameters for launching such an installation? From the apache log of the server hosting preseed.cfg, I see that the installer has no problems fetching the preseed file. My preseed file is almost identical to the one at https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/installation-guide/example-preseed.txt. Moreover, I have run debconf-set-selections -c preseed.cfg to ensure that the preseed file is correct.

    I zipped a directory on my linux server. Many files in the directory have german umlauts in their filename. The filesystem is ext3 and the system locale is set to de_DE.utf8. I used the following command to create the zip file: zip -r somezip.zip somefolder/ I transfered this file via WinSCP to my windows laptop and unzipped it. The issue: All filenames with german umlauts are broken. On my linux server the filenames are displayed correctly. I assume that I made a mistake when i created the zip file. Has someone any ideas how i can perserve the right filename encoding when I zip the files with the zip command on linux?

  • stdout and key press

    Hi, when in console, if I press a key, some interrupt controller sends code of that key to CPU, which looks into some table and than represent that keypress by printing some charracter to stdout. But, is keyboard sending an ASCII code of that key, or just some standardised code? Since there is so many languages and extra characters, OS must further translate its code into some character according to user selected scheme, I guess. I ask, becouse I am from Czech Republic, and we use some characters that do not exists in standart ASCII code. So I was thinking, if I enter this character into a console, and then print it, lets say in C++ using cin and cout, and I have set locale to Czech, stdin must actually send some non-ASCII code of the character I pressed to input stream. Am I right?

  • Broken characters in filenames only in some directories

    We have a web server running CentOS 5.8 that uses SVN for version control. When trying to switch to the latest revision, we got an error about the filenames of files in an upload directory: svn: Error converting entry in directory 'adm/emails/upload' to UTF-8 svn: Valid UTF-8 data (hex: 54 79) followed by invalid UTF-8 sequence (hex: f6 6b 69 72) Upon investigating, we noticed there were some files that had broken filenames: $ ls ~/public_html/adm/emails/upload/ Ty?el?m?trendit.csv Ty?kirja1.csv To get the update completed quickly, we simply mved the files into our home directory. Surprisingly, their filenames looked fine in their new location: $ ls ~/ Työelämätrendit.csv Työkirja1.csv After the update we moved them back to where they were and their filenames were broken again. What could cause this and how can we fix it? The system's locale is set to LANG=en_US.UTF-8.

  • How to use graphical line drawing characters with Midnight Commander on OS X under ssh?

    I discovered that when I do ssh to a machine using OS X 10.6 and use mc I do not see the graphical line drawing characters. This does not happen if I open terminal and start mc. I'm connecting using putty configured to use xterm-color, configuraton that works just fine if I do ssh to a linux machine. The mc from OS X is version 4.7.0 (installed using macports). What locale returns: LC_CTYPE="C" <== ssh LC_CTYPE="UTF-8" <== Terminal.app ssh: mc display bits shows: 7-bit ASCII (changing does not help, it defaults to the same value) Terminal.app: mc display bits shows: UTF-8 The environment shows TERM=xterm-color in both cases Terminal.app and ss but mc looks different.   • When to use Nginx PHP Fast CGI with a TCP socket instead of a UNIX socket?

    I've followed this guide to setup PHP in FastCGI mode with Nginx. This guide describes 2 ways of doing it: TCP socket and UNIX socket. I've ran some Apache Benchmark on my locale machine and here are the results: Below tests ran multiple times to get better average statistics: $ ab -c 200 -n 100000 http://.... APACHE: 1800 req/sec NGINX (TCP socket): 2500 req/sec NGINX (UNIX socket): 15000 req/sec As far as I understand, there is overhead with using a TCP socket rather than a UNIX socket, hence the better performance with the latter. However I was not expecting such a performance difference given that the TCP socket is on the localhost, and therefore would like to ask the following question: Q: Given the huge performance gain with using a UNIX socket, what are the configuration scenarios where it would make sense to use a TCP socket instead?

  • Acad 14 SOLIDS disappeared, DWG file doesn't open correctly

    I made a drawing in Autocad 14 (Win XP) containing of mostly SOLID's. I saved and re-opened it multiple times without any problem. Before I last saved it I viewed my drawing using the SHADE functions. After re-opening all my SOLIDS have disappeared. I spent numerous hours searching for a solution, tried SATFIX.ARX , AUDIT, RECOVER without success (ACIS error - which should be gone after applying SATFIX), changed my computer locale from German (decimal = comma) to English (decimal = dot) but my screen remains empty (and yes I tried to recover from a .BAK, too) I also tried to export (the non-display drawing) into DXF and can confirm that all my objects are in there, but re-opening the DXF results in a huge ACIS error list again I am desperate - please can someone help - thanks!   • Windows 7 Home Premium - Unable to View Chinese Characters Properly

    Is there a proper and permanent fix that will restore the display of Chinese Characters on a Windows 7 Home Premium Laptop computer? This problem has been occurring frequently now and a simple reboot no longer does the trick. The square boxes viewed on many applications and websites has been constantly bothering me and I wish to fix it asap. I have done a lot of research on it but have not been successful. Many responses were to install the language packs for Windows 7 Ultimate Users which apparently is not my case or to configure the "Region and Language" settings of the Control Panel, changing the system locale. Does anyone have any suggestions? All would be appreciated!

    My static site www.example.com is translated in different languages and files are organized in this hierarchy: / /de index.html seite-1.html /en index.html page-1.html /it index.html pagina-1.html The root contains no files, just one subdirectory for each language the site is translated in, while subdirectories contain pages translated (both content and file name are) in the language corresponding to subdirectory name, de, en, it, etc. The question is: how to configure mod_rewrite so that when a client visits www.example.com it is taken to the correct version of the site, falling back to english version if the required locale is not supported (i.e. Accept-Language header doesn't exist or specifies a language for which the site is not available, e.g. fr)?   • Apache Web Server character encoding

    I've recently transferred my webapp from my localhost (LH) to a VPS, and have had hebrew chars-encoding probs since. Whenever I send a request with a heb-char it results in "?????" saved to the DB. My LH config was tomcat6, MySQL, and centOS 6.2, opened to the web. In the VPS env I'm behind an Apache Web Server, and the rest is quite the same (though I haven't done anything to its installation). Please note I already have had this problem before, on my LH when the request was sent from IE/chrome (not FF!). The solution was to apply a filter on the the context and change the char-type to UTF-8. My webapp content char-encode is utf-8, MySql server set to utf8 using charset utf8;, and my centOS set to iw_IL.UTF8 using export LANG=iw_IL.UTF8. When I use locale the bash output seems to be set correctly. Any suggestions?

    I have +- 5yrs old pc runnig windows 7 and I've been getting blue screen recently. I had win 8 and I got a lof of erros with ram memory, so I reinstalled back to Win 7. (I have 2x 2 GB RAM) To make a better image of my errors - I get them while writing email, installing nvidia driver, sound driver, running RAM test. I got a log of my last error, could anyone tell me what is it? Should I get new RAM memories?     In my Debian installation I can type extended ASCII characters such as åäö by default using the terminus font, however in Gentoo I can't get it to work so far. Nothing happens when I hit those keys, like in this thread: Missing glyphs in Terminus font, how to setup a fallback font ? But in this case I know terminus supports those characters in at least some of its versions, since it's works in Debian. So what I want is to find out how to see and choose which of the many different terminus font files is being used. I set the font in the same way on both Debian and Gentoo, using URxvt*font: xft:terminus:size=xx in .Xdefaults. Both systems use en_US.UTF-8 as default locale.

  • Windows 8 blue screen error watchdog violation

    My system is windows 8 pro rtm x64. Recently my system started hanging frequently. Nothing but the restart button works. But now just after hanging it showed me a BSOD error saying watchdog violation. I used bluscreen viewer to see the error in the memory dump and it showed me something about hal.dll, ntoskrnl.exe. Hence am not aware of how to use that data inside mysql to this new system and are there any more changes.
