  • Which Shopping Cart is better to run online grocery shop Prestrashop or nopCommerce

    I have been researching on open source software for an online grocery shop project. I have now narrowed by search to .NET based nopCommerce and the PHP based PrestaShop shopping carts. My plan is to acquire an open source shopping cart and hire a local developer to customize it to our local needs & as per our requirement. I'm now wondering whether I should have a developer start the whole project from scratch, or use an open source software such us PrestaShop or nopCommerce which can then be customized?   • Resources for a fighting game

    As the title says, I need resources for a 2D fighting game for the PC. The game is being made by me and two close friends. I'm thinking of using the FlatRedBall engine and either Allegro Sprite Editor or Amiga DPaint for the sprites, but I don't know is there is anything better for a more or less beginner in video game making. So my questions are as follows, what would be the best engine to use so that we could also sell the game later on, (I don't really care what language I'd have to use) and what would be the best thing to use for sprite creating? I would really appreciate any help given.

  • Integrating Java webapps with Adobe Professional: Resources?

    I'm interested in learning what resources there are for integrating Java and Adobe Professional, in general. If it helps, my projects already use the Spring Framework. My boss is particularly interested in being able to fill out a PDF form from within a Java webapp and have that data go directly to our database. She mentioned that .net had a lot of bridges to Adobe Professional. I would rather new projects be in Java so I am eager to find if there are any easy bridges between Java and Adobe Professional.   • How do you find partners for open source projects?

    I've created a few open-source projects in the past, and had some success. The process was generally the following: I'd start alone, create something that works, promote it, and finally (maybe) get some contributions. I have less that to contribute to open-source now, but I still have ideas and can still code :) So I wonder if there is a place or a way to meet people (online), discuss ideas and design, and then start working together on the project? The reason I'm thinking about an online way to do this, with strangers, is that while I do have programmer friends, we only very rarely have the same needs and interests at the same time. It seems to me that it would be easier to find such in match in the online global community. Any insight?

  • Good resources for learning about graphics hardware

    I'm looking for some good learning resources for graphics hardware (and associated low level software). Basically I want to learn more about what goes on underneath the opengl/direcx API layers in terms of how things are implemented. I familiar with what happens in principle during the various stages of the rendering pipeline (viewing, projection, clipping, rasterization etc). My goal is to be able to make better and more informed decisions about tradeoffs and potential optimisations when graphics/shader programming with respect to the following kinds of issues; batching view culling occlusions draw order avoiding state changes triangles vs pointsprites texture sampling etc Basically whatever the graphics programmer needs to know about modern graphics hardware in order to become more effective. I'm not really looking for specific optimisation techniques, rather I need more general knowledge so that I will naturally write more efficient code.

I have to deal with business people all the time and many of the things I create can have profound impacts on the business. I am starting to regret not taking any business classes in college because I don't understand the first thing about running a business so I don't always understand what people are wanting, the best I can do is "think through it".   • Audio programming resources

    I've been very interested in the last few months about getting in to audio programming (I'm from a musical background). I've been a .NET developer for two years and have also done some objective c for an iPhone app recently. I realise I would probably need to work on my C++ chops and have been having a play around with FMOD EX and doing a lot of research into the industry. I was just wondering if anyone could suggest some good resources for audio programming (be they websites, podcasts, books, videos, online courses etc).   • Using NPM to share resources between UI projects [on hold]

    I am a UI team leader. My team has a lot of projects using different languages/technologies. In some parts we will rewrite (gradually - @Ampt this is for you) the application in order to enable new fresh technologies in and get old dinosaurs out. I am going to use Node Package Manager to set up an "all powerful" build/dependency manager. Can I use NPM to depend on a private github repository? Can I use NPM to depend on SVN? Will NPM play nice with quickbuild? Since each project might have a slightly different structure (think jetty/maven or play!framework) can I configure NPM to install some dependencies in different folders while still running it from the project's root? How can I, using NPM, get development resources out and build a packaged product? (like a war) Yes/No - is there a reason to use grunt? No discussion, just one liners.

    Before using LWJGL, I used the Graphic method, and there I displayed imageicons, and I had the picture file located in the resources. I used: ImageIcon tcard = new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("RCA.png")); to load the image. Now when I load textures in LWJGL, I have to use absolute paths to locate the file: tcard = TextureLoader.getTexture("PNG", ResourceLoader.getResourceAsStream("C:/RCA.png")); I tried Googling, but I didn't find anything helpful. How can I load the image from the local resources like in the first example?

    I am trying to add an application to my site where I can post job openings with my company and allow people to apply online. Can someone recommend a service or app already in existence for this purpose? I tried googling it, but could not find a set of search terms that did not return endless sites for job seekers. This is a (very) small business and I do not expect to have more than a few openings at any time, but what I am actually interested in is having a repository of interested job seekers to have on file. Then when people ask me about openings, I could just refer them to the page and they could apply. Then, if we have an opening, we could look through the list of candidates and if we can't fill the position(s) from that list, we could post the job and advertise to fill the position.

  • Even distribution through a chain of resources

    I'm working on an algorithm which routes tasks through a chain of distributed resources based on a hash (or random number). For example, say you have 10 gateways into a service which distribute tasks to 1000 handlers through 100 queues. 10,000 connected clients are expected to be connected to gateways at any given time (numbers are very general to keep it simple). Thats 10,000 clients 10 gateways (producers) 100 queues 1000 workers/handlers (consumers) The flow of each task is client-gateway-queue-worker Each client will have it's own hash/number which is used to route each task from the client to the same worker each time, with each task going through the same gateway and queue each time. Yet the algorithm handles distribution evenly, meaning each gateway, queue, and worker will have an even workload. My question is what exactly would this be called? Does such a thing already exist? This started off as a DHT, but I realized that DHTs can't do exactly what I need, so I started from scratch.

  • What should I check in my ASP.NET application to make sure it won't run out of resources?

    We have a website on IIS7 using ASP.NET Routing that seems as though it might be running out of resources. It just hangs after a few days, there is no error message or apparent crash. We are making sure every .Open command is matched by a .Close command on the database connection. We are doing the same with file Open/Close but there are very few of those. Is there anything else we should check?
