  • Realtime Twitter Replies?

    I have created Twitter bots for many geographic locations. I want to allow users to @-reply to the Twitter bot with commands and then have the bot respond with the results. I would like to have the bot reply to the user as quickly as possible (realtime). Apparently, Twitter used to have an XMPP/Jabber interface that would provide this type of realtime feed of replies but it was shut down. As I see it my options are to use one of the following: REST API This would involve polling every X minutes for each bot. The problem with this is that it is not realtime and each Twitter account would have to be polled. Search API The search API does allow specifying a "-to" parameter in the search and replies to all bots could be aggregated in a search such as "-to bot1 OR -to bot2...". Though if you have hundreds of bots then the search string would get very long and probably exceed the maximum length of a GET request. Streaming API The streaming API looks very promising as it provides realtime results. The API allows you to specify a follow and track parameters. follow is not useful as the bot does not know who will be sending it commands. track allows you to specify keywords to track. This could possibly work by creating a daemon process that connects to the Streaming API and tracks all references to the bot's names. Once again since there are lots of bots to track the length and complexity of the query may be an issue. Another idea would be to track a special hashtag such as #botcommand and then a user could send a command using this syntax @bot1 weather #botcommand. Then by using the Streaming API to track all references to #botcommand would give you a realtime stream of all the commands. Further parsing could then be done to determine which bot to send the command to. Third-party service Are there any third-party companies that have access to the Twitter firehouse and offer realtime data? I haven't investigated these, but here are a few that I have found: Gnip Tweet.IM excla.im TwitterSpy - seems to use polling, not realtime I'm leaning towards using the Streaming API. Is there a better way to get near realtime @-replies for many (hundreds) of Twitter accounts?

    Hi, I want to find a way to efficiently keep track of a lot of objects at once. One practical example I can think of would be a particle system. How are hundreds of particles kept track of? I think I'm on the right track, I found the term 'instancing' and I also learned about flyweights. Hopefully somebody can shed some light on this and share some techniques with me. Thanks.

    How do I convert (as an example): Señor Coconut Y Su Conjunto - Introducciõn to: Señor Coconut Y Su Conjunto - Introducciõn I've got an app that creates m3u playlists, but when the track filename, artist or title contains non ASCII characters it doesn't get read properly by the music player so the track doesn't get played. I've discovered that if I write the track out as: #EXTINFUTF8:76,Señor Coconut Y Su Conjunto - Introducciõn #EXTINF:76,Señor Coconut Y Su Conjunto - Introducciõn #UTF8:01-Introducciõn.mp3 01-Introducciõn.mp3 Then the music player will read it correctly and play the track. My problem is that I can't find the information I need to be able to do the conversion properly.

    I'm trying to integrate Mixpanel with GWT, but I have problems calling an event with a property and one value. But when I want to add some properties and values, it doesn't work properly: public native void trackComplexEvent(String eventName, String property, String value)/*-{ $wnd.mixpanel.track(eventName, {property:value}); }-*/; I have 2 problems with this: 1) Mixpanel says the property name is: "property"(yes, the name of the variable that I'm passing, not the value). 2) Mixpanel says the value is:undefined An example from mixpanel web is: mixpanel.track("Video Play", {"age": 13, "gender": "male"}); So, I guess the problem is I'm doing a wrong call or with wrong type of arguments.

    I'm attempting to avoid introducing any dependencies between my Data layer and client code that makes use of this layer, but am running into some problems when attempting to do this with Mongo (using the MongoRepository) MongoRepository shows examples where you create Types that reflect your data structure, and inherit Entity where required. Eg. [CollectionName("track")] public class Track : Entity { public string name { get; set; } public string hash { get; set; } public Artist artist { get; set; } public List<Publish> published {get; set;} public List<Occurence> occurence {get; set;} } In order to make use of these in my client code, I'd like to replace the Mongo-specific types with Interfaces, e.g: [CollectionName("track")] public class Track : Entity, ITrackEntity { public string name { get; set; } public string hash { get; set; } public IArtistEntity artist { get; set; } public List<IPublishEntity> published {get; set;} public List<IOccurenceEntity> occurence {get; set;} } However, the Mongo driver doesn't know how to treat these interfaces, and I understandably get the following error: An error occurred while deserializing the artist property of class sf.data.mongodb.entities.Track: No serializer found for type sf.data.IArtistEntity. --- MongoDB.Bson.BsonSerializationException: No serializer found for type sf.data.IArtistEntity. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I should approach this?

Each track must be linked to a specific URL which also should be stored in the database somewhere.     I know that there are other ways of grabbing radio button values, but I want to know how to do this with .find().     I am trying to get Jira and Stash to talk to each other via a Trusted Application link. The setup, currently, looks like this: Jira - http - Jira Proxy -https- stash proxy -http- stash. Jira and the Jira proxy are on the same machine. The Jira Proxy is showing 403 Forbidden for POST requests from the stash server. It works (or seems to ) for everything else. I contend that since we're seeing 403 forbiddens in the access log for apache, Jira is never seeing the request. Why is apache forbidding posts,and how do I fix it?   • Open Data, Government and Transparency

    A new track at TDC (The Developer's Conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil) is titled Open Data. It deals with open data, government and transparency. Saturday will be a "transparency hacker day" where developers are invited to create applications using open data from the Brazilian government.  Alexandre Gomes, co-lead of the track, says "I want to inspire developers to become "Civic hackers:" developers who create apps to make society better." It is a chance for developers to do well and do good. There are many opportunities for developers, including monitoring government expenditures and getting citizens involved via social networks. The open data movement is growing worldwide. One initiative, the Open Government Partnership, is working to make government data easier to find and access. Making this data easily available means that with the right applications, it will be easier for people to make decisions and suggestions about government policies based on detailed information. Last April, the Open Government Partnership held its annual meeting in Brasilia, the capitol of Brazil. It was a great success showcasing the innovative work being done in open data by governments, civil societies and individuals around the world. For example, Bulgaria now publishes daily data on budget spending for all public institutions. Alexandre Gomes Explains Open Data At TDC, the Open Data track will include a presentation of examples of successful open data projects, an introduction to the semantic web, how to handle big data sets, techniques of data visualization, and how to design APIs.The other track lead is Christian Moryah Miranda, a systems analyst for the Brazilian Government's Ministry of Planning. "The Brazilian government wholeheartedly supports this effort. In order to make our data available to the public, it forces us to be more consistent with our data across ministries, and that's a good step forward for us," he said. He explained the government knows they cannot achieve everything they would like without help from the public. "It is not the government versus the people, rather citizens are partners with the government, and together we can achieve great things!" Miranda exclaimed. Saturday at TDC will be a "transparency hacker day" where developers will be invited to create applications using open data from the Brazilian government. Attendees are invited to pitch their ideas, work in small groups, and present their project at the end of the conference. "For example," Gomes said, "the Brazilian government just released the salaries of all government employees and I can't wait to see what developers can do with that."     The Developer's Conference (TDC) kicked off Wednesday in São Paulo, Brazil. With over 3000 developers in attendance over five days, it is the premier multi-community developer conference in Brazil, organized by Globalcode. Yara Senger, one of the organizers said, "We like to say multi-community rather than multi-technology because it is interesting and benefical when various communities get together. They learn so much from each other!" TDC includes tracks on Java and several other technologies, including SOA, Python, Ruby, mobile and digital TV. In the mobile track, developers who create a Java ME app will get a Nokia S40 phone!New this year at TDC is the Java University track, sponsored by Oracle.  It is aimed at university students and professionals who are new to Java. The lectures are introductory level, with an educational focus and practical exercises. Fernando explained the concept of "the second screen:" that many people watch TV and have second smart device (tablet or smartphone) with them, and this creates many opportunities for developers. For example, while watching TV, a viewer can get extra content (interviews, behind the scenes) on their tablet. More interestingly, while watching their favorite TV show a viewer likes an outfit one of the actors is wearing, their smartphone can tell them where they can buy it nearby, or they can order it online immediately. Fernando exclaimed, "The opportunities for developers are nearly infinite in the area of digital TV!" At the TDC opening keynote, Debora Palermo, Oracle University country manager for Brazil, reminded attendees that Java is present in many devices, from simple to complex, and knowledge of this platform can open many doors in the labor market. She explained Oracle's Workforce Development Program (WDP), managed by Oracle University, which allows educational institutions to deliver Oracle training. WDP allows for easy and low-cost access to Oracle training in local communities across the world. "Oracle University is committed to creating the next generation of Java developers, and WDP can make that happen," Palermo said. As of March 2012, Oracle University is partnering with Globalcode to offer WDP. Students can earn official Oracle Course Certifications, a great way to learn Java.Brazilian developers that cannot attend TDC can watch live streaming.

  • Tracking based on URL referral?

    Hi, Users on my site are given unique URL's for me to then track how many people they have referred to my site. ie: http://www.example.com/FQ3DL (FQ3DL being the unique code/url) The first thing I'd like to do is when a user goes to that link, it displays the homepage http://www.example.com/ rather than a 404 error The second thing is, how would I track how many people have visited that URL? Only through Google analytics or is there another way to manage it? Thanks!

  • Not Provide count has reached 80%! But what about remaining 20?

    I am updated with all not-provided reasons as Google has encrypted their all searches, but here is the little question banging again and again in my head. That if all search results has encrypted with HTTPS protocol then how did Google analytics still able to track some of (20%) organic keywords details? I means their still some keywords appreading in my organic keywords section. So how did Google analytics track or bypass that HTTPS thing? Thanks in advance!
