  I'm having problems with a Joomla install (problem exists in both 1.5.13 and 1.5.15) that won't order articles in a category or section blog layout. I've tried setting the sort order on the layout manually to all the different sort options but it has no effect. Ordering on the front page works fine. Any ideas?

• How can I create blog post functionality without Wordpress or Drupal?

  I'm currently learning Python (as a beginner in programming). I go through each chapter learning basics. I haven't gotten far enough to understand how CMS works. I eventually want a blog that doesn't depend on Wordpress or Drupal. I would like to develop it myself as my skills progress. My immediate curiosity is on blog posts. What is the component called that will allow me to make a daily post on my blog? There must be a technical term for this function. I would like to learn how to make one, but don't even know what to research. Everything I research points me to Wordpress or Drupal. I would like to create my own. Thanks in advance! Ali

• Blog comment spammers &hellip; help!

  Hey, I need some advice/help, now I’ve been writing on this blog for a few years, I don’t blog a great deal in comparison to many of my peers and my blog doesn’t get a massive number of hits, BUT I seem to get a fair share of comments spammers!! I have an image verification on the comments and I have put an Akismet API key into the Geekswithblogs settings, but I still get a bunch of spam comments. They could almost be real, until you see the link going off to some dating site or casino crap. What does everyone do?? Delete them every time?? Moderate comments??   I'm setting up a list of ping services for a portal. It has a blog, forum, articles, restaurants, hotels and many other information, so it is far beyond a blog. I have a list of standard ping services for WP blogs - but I do not know if this should be literally only for blogs. My questions are: Is it recommended to ping blog services from a portal, such as http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2? Are there any penalties for sites that are not recognized as blogs? Is there some list of ping services for regular websites and not only blogs? Thanks!

  Reader new to my blog might have wondered why blog lives in a .NZ domain: to make a long story short is because when I started my blog I was soo excited about my relocation to New Zealand that I registered a .NZ domain. Then I came back to Italy, and started to work in Milano. Last autumn I had to chance to go back to New Zealand again, but at the same time the offer to work for an European Institution arrived. • How to structure the tables of a very simple blog in MySQL?

  I want to add a very simple blog feature on one of my existing LAMP sites. It would be tied to a user's existing profile, and they would be able to simply input a title and a body for each post in their blog, and the date would be automatically set upon submission. They would be allowed to edit and delete any blog post and title at any time. The blog would be displayed from most recent to oldest, perhaps 20 posts to a page, with proper pagination above that. Other users would be able to leave comments on each post, which the blog owner would be allowed to delete, but not pre-moderate. That's basically it. Like I said, very simple. How should I structure the MySQL tables for this? I'm assuming that since there will be blog posts and comments, I would need a separate table for each, is that correct? But then what columns would I need in each table, what data structures should I use, and how should I link the two tables together (e.g. any foreign keys)? I could not find any tutorials for something like this, and what I'm looking to do is really offer my users the simplest version of a blog possible. No tags, no moderation, no images, no fancy formatting, etc. Just a simple diary-type, pure-text blog with commenting by other users.

I guess that Prototype doesn't work well with HTTP methods other than GET and POST (here's the ticket describing similar problem though proposed patch didn't work for me) Any help is appreciated!   I just started a coding related wordpress bog to basicly discuss topics and store code snippets in. I installed a code syntax highlighter plugin which is very nice but I am having a problem. I just tried posting my first code related blog post and wordpress seems to only post some of my code and then it makes some of it not show, like it filters some of it out even though I am wrapping it in tags like this.. <pre class="brush:php"> <?PHP my code ?> </pre> Some of my code works and some gets filtered out somehow. I know this is possible as many wordpress coding sites show source code. Do I need to modify something to make it work in wordpress? UPDATE I have confirmed that it does save ALL my code into the database it just filters it out when it try to print to screen, so when I go in to edit the post and textbox populates with ALL the source code intact

  I have created a simple blog application using Ruby on Rails, both of which I am new to. I am trying to get my most 'voted' posts to display in my /views/posts/index.html.erb view. Here are the basics. I have created a votes table and successfully allow a user to 'vote' for a post on the /views/posts/show.html.erb page. When they vote, it passes '1' to the votes table and I return the vote count via ajax to the same show page. Vote belongs_to :post and Post has_many :votes. I would like to display in /views/posts/index.html.erb the post title and the amount of times it has been voted for, ordered by posts with the highest vote count. Any ideas on how to do this?

• Ruby CMS/blog: Mephisto vs. Radiant

  I'm looking for a blogging tool with some light CMS features in Ruby on Rails. I mainly want something simple, but configurable. I have no need for page snippets, etc. Just your basic main blog, very good (and easy) theme support, some nice sidebar stuff, a few static pages and MetaWeblog API support. I'm thinking of either using Mephisto or Radiant CMS (everything else seems half-baked or extremely lightweight at best): http://mephistoblog.com/ http://www.radiantcms.org/ Documentation for Mephisto seems very lacking and their site is a mess. I've also read some bad things about it's stability. Radiant seems more stable in comparison and has heaps of useful plug-ins. However, it isn't designed for blogging out of the box. That has to be added as almost an after thought. Creating a custom theme also seems more cumbersome with Radiant due to the sub-page/snippet feature. Which should I choose?

• simple float issue on wordpress blog

  I am modifying a wordpress theme completely, and have run into one very simple problem. Please look at my page here: wordpress blog When you scroll down, you can see the one blank area under the first post. For some reason, that block isn't floating left. Each post has the following css that fits in a 645px container: .home-post-wrap { width: 285px; margin:0; float: left; background-color: #FFF; padding: 15px; overflow: hidden; border-bottom:1px dotted #C5C5C5; border-right:1px dotted #C5C5C5; } Any idea on how to make the page flow correctly here?

• help configuring openid for enki blog in ruby on rails

  I am trying to set up a blog using Enki. There is a config file here: http://github.com/xaviershay/enki/blob/master/config/enki.yml Which I don't understand. I signed up for myopenID and replaced my username in the delegate, but I don't understand what goes under "open_id" - is it just my URL? I'm just not sure what's going on, or what name I should put in the admin page at all (is it the username at myopenID?). I may have it all right, but I keep getting "OpenID server not found" so something is going wrong on both my local and remote server.

By default the posts are sorted based on "created date". I have a new requirement from the client asking me to change the sorting criteria to "Published date". What is the easiest method to achieve this without using SharePoint Designer . Note: Creating a new view is not a solution as I will not be able to apply the customized design.

  I know that there's a lot of free open source blog engine out there such as BlogEngine.NET. However that's an overkill for my purpose... I so far has created my own simple one by storing posts in a .xml file and so every time the main page loads it reads from all those xml files and displays it as posts. Now my problem is when a user clicks on a post title I want it to show on a new page(.aspx), so if the title is X then I want a new page called X.aspx when the user clicks on the title on the homepage. I hope this makes sense. My question is how do I create such thing?

• Sharepoint Blog Category view - Pagination issue...

  Folks, I am facing a rather strange issue. In my Sharepoint Blog, I am not able to view more than 10 posts when I click on the Category filter page. The page only shows the latest 10 posts and when I click on the pagination for the next 10, it simply says that "There are no posts in this category." I tried searching online and some one had a solution to it too, but that is with the Query String (URL) Filter which is not available in MOSS2007 Standard edition... How can I get around this? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

• Problem updating blog with hibernate?

  hi, i am having problem updating a blob with hibernate. my model have these getters/setters for hibernate, i.e. internally i deal with byte[] so any getter/setter convert the byte[] to blog. I can create an initial object without problem, but if I try to change the content of the blob, the database column is not updated. • Best free site/blog to put video tutorial

  Hi, i am planning to upload a video tutorial on a particular software technology. The size of the videos will be around 600 MB's to say 1 GB. I am putting it for free for anyone to download. Is there any site/blog where i can put it.I am planning to divide the videos in parts and zip them. Does blogger or any other cms allow me to upload to there sites and put download links? Or is buying web space the only option? I am not keen on using youtube as i clearly want the user to download by clicking on links and not watch them online. Also i was thinking of just uploading the videos on rapidshare/megaupload/mediafire... and put just links on a blogger post. Any suggestion from you guys?

• Get the WPMU default blog domain

  I have a network of blogs that link to each other. The problem is when I want to get the primary blog's domain. I need it for things like the the target of the logo when clicked. I can't seem to find a function in WPMU the retrieves this. I can see the value I want in the wp_site table. I could easily get it with $wpdb, but its a bit over kill, and if there is a function that can get the value already, then I want to use it.
