  • When creating a WCF Service with NetTcpBinding, use endpoint "localhost" or machine's host name?

    I have a WCF service that uses the NetTcpBinding and is running within a Windows service. Remote clients connect to this service. So far, I have defined the endpoint to use "localhost". If the host machine has multiple network adapters, will it receive messages on all adapters? Would it be better to assign the machine's host name to the endpoint instead of "localhost"? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

  • Can't get the JSONP workin' with WCF Data Services...

    What am I missing here? It seems from all that I read and watched, exposing JSON from a WCF Data Service should be as easy as adding the '[JSONPSupportBehavior]' directive in front of the Service Class. Problem is VS2010 doesn't recognize 'JSONPSupportBehavior'. Is there a reference I am missing? Seemed like, from alll the articles, it was supportted outta the box. TIA S.

The proxy for the second service is generated through the strongly typed ProxyFactory<T> class. I haven't experienced any issues but have heard I should do something like the following when making the call: using (new OperationContextScope((IContextChannel)_service)) _service.Send(message); So my question is: when is creating this new OperationContextScope appropriate, and why?     I have a 2008 reporting services server installed on windows 2003 server. I am trying to allow anonymous access to the report builder folder so that my users do not have to select the remember password option when they login, if they are wanting to use the report builder. All I have found so far is that I should be able to do this with the IIS manager, but that only seems to work for reporting services 2005. Reporting services 2008 does not show up in the IIS manager, enabling anonymous access seems to be hidden somewhere else. How do I enable anonymous access to report builder in reporting services 2008?

    I am trying to setup reporting services on a SQL server 2008 and get this error message when I try to connect to the http://localhost/reports The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. I asked the server administrator and the IIS should be running (can't find it under administrative tools though) I used the Reporting Services Configuration manager to setup reporting services and am pretty sure it is setup correct.

    Hi guys, I've installed SQL Server 2008 R2, but connecting to my local machine in SQL Management Studio fails: Putting "localhost" or "." as the server name results in the same error. I've narrowed down the problem: there are no SQL services installed: Bringing up the Services control panel applet shows me there are no MS SQL services installed. Things I've tried: Repair install of SQL Complete uninstall and reinstall of all MS SQL products. How can I get SQL Server running?

I would use this boot during travel where I surely does not need these services and shorter bootup time is preferable. Permanent removal of such services is not an option because I could not miss them during normal daily work. I use Mandriva 2010 with the latest updates.

    Can somebody give me a script advice/example of how to restart services? I have to restart 17 services, but the first 4 services have to be in the right order and after the restart command is given to one of the services, the next one should be started when the previous one is finished. I know I can restart a service by net command, and I can build a delay by for example a ping command that repeats for an x amount of times, but I never know in advance how long it is going to take for a service to restart.     I am currently running Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my system. But today, when I failed to connect to the internet, via a LAN cable, I realized that almost all of the vital network services had stopped functioning. Any attempts to start it through services.msc gives me the following message: Could not start the DNS Client Service on Local Computer Error 1068: The dependency service group failed to start All my software or services that are related to networking have stopped functioning, for example, Windows Firewall is turned off permanently, so is my Avast Anti-Virus' service of Real Time Shields and Web Shield. When I insert the LAN wire into my laptop, it registers itself, but this is what I get when I do a ping localhost C:>ping localhost Unable to contact IP driver, error code 2 Moveover, with ipconfig I get this : Windows IP Configuration An internal error occurred: The request is not supported. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help. Additional Information: Unable to query host name On some further poking around, I saw that none of the "NETWORK SERVICE" process in task manager, except svchost.exe were running. Also, when I first opened the task manager, I saw some 20 processes running with username column empty for most of them. With some search in Google, I found out that these services were important, DHCP DNS Net logon Network connection Network location Awareness TCP/IP Net BIOS Helper none of them, except Network Connections are working, they do not start. The event viewer of my system shows a bunch of 7000 and 7001 event errors. I have tried re installing the network driver, booting in safe mode with networking and tried to enable those services mentioned above. I had disabled System Restore some time back, so I have no restore points for my system. I tried a lot of things from Google searches but none of them worked. Also, with such a long list of issue, I am a little confused as to what should I search on the internet. :( One more thing I would like to mention, previous morning, my anti-virus Avast detected a RootKit buried deep in my system folders. It was removed, but maybe this was a problem caused by the root kit. I did run a boot-time scan but no viruses were found. Please please please advice. Is formatting and re-installation of Windows my only option?

  • Windows Services don't automatically start after reboot?

    We've got some Windows services written in .NET. They start fine manually within the services mmc, but despite being set to Automatic, they never start when powering on (or rebooting) the machine. Update In the event log, instead of seeing "xyz started", alongside all the other services starting, I just see "The xyz service entered the stopped state." and a seperate error that says "A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the slsvc service.". If I manually start them, then I get a normal in the event log as expected, and all is fine - until the next Windows Update patch which forces a reboot and all the services are off again. Any ideas? I've tried setting them to Delayed Start with no apparent difference.

    Is the System.Tuple class supported by WCF's Data Contract Serializer (i.e., can I pass Tuple objects to WCF calls and/or receive them as part or all of the result)? I found this page, but not the clear, definitive "you can send and receive Tuples with WCF" answer I was hoping for. I'm guessing that you can, as long as all of the types within the Tuple itself are supported by the Data Contract Serializer -- can anyone provide me with a more definitive answer? Thanks.

  • Using SSIS Web Service Task with WCF

    Hello, I am using SQL Server 2008 SSIS for importing data to the DB and .Net 3.5 SP1 for Creating the WCF service. In the import task I am trying to use the Web Service Task to report to a WCF service. At first I encountered a problem with the WCF WSDL, the Web Service task couldn't get their code generated from the metadata exposed by the WCF service. So I found a blog post at Christian Weyer's Blog talking just about that. Now after I can successfully load a WCF service to the Web Service Task and get the functions generated just fine from the WSDL I encountered another problem. I get an error from the SSIS package at runtime saying that "Method 'ProxyNamespace.MyService.GetData' not found." The full Error is: Error: 0xC002F304 at Web Service Task False, Web Service Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebserviceTaskException: Could not execute the Web method. The error is: Method 'ProxyNamespace.MyService.GetData' not found.. at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebMethodInvokerProxy.InvokeMethod(DTSWebMethodInfo methodInfo, String serviceName, Object connection) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebServiceTaskUtil.Invoke(DTSWebMethodInfo methodInfo, String serviceName, Object connection, VariableDispenser taskVariableDispenser) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebServiceTask.executeThread()". My custom WCF application hosting software (written because Windows Server 2008 is not yet available and I'm using WCF TCP bindings) detects this and wants to report itself as down until it can recover the errant service. It needs to report itself as down to the BigIP LTM so that it is no longer sent client originated requests.

A strongly named application or component cannot reference a weak-named component, so strong-naming an EXE prevents the EXE from referencing weak-named DLLs that are deployed with the application. For this reason, the Visual Studio project system does not strong-name application EXEs. Instead, it strong-names the Application manifest, which internally points to the weak-named application EXE. I expected VS to avoid this problem, but I had no luck there, it complained about all the unsigned references, so I created a separate "WCF Service Library" project inside my solution containing only code above and signed that one. At this point entire solution compiled just okay. And here's my problem: When I fired up "WCF Service Configuration Editor" I was able to add new behavior element extension (say "AuthExtension"), but then when I tried to add that extension to my end point behavior it gives me: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.     I'm using the WebServiceHostFactory in my WCF services to avoid having to create a crapton of binding configuration in web.config. However, I'd like to expose the services as XML/JSON and JSONP. Reading: http://jasonkelly.net/archive/2009/02/24/using-jquery-amp-jsonp-for-cross-domain-ajax-with-wcf-services.aspx It does not look like I can extend WCF to add JSONP without resorting to a mountain of custom binding config. So, for those who have done it, is it possible to have a restful WCF service that responds in XML/JSON/JSONP depending on the UriTemplate, without resorting to a ton of config wiring?

    I have created a WCF service that needs to be hosted in a Window Service because it is participating in a P2P mesh (NetPeerTcpBinding). When I tried to host the WCF Service with NetPeerTcpBinding endpoints in the IIS Service container the service wouldn't run because it turns out that the P2P binding doesn't work in IIS. I have exposed a HTTP endpoint from the WCF service hosted in a Windows Service container and I want to know if there is a way to create an ISA Web Farm that will route traffic to http endpoints on two machines each running the same WCF service in a Windows Service container.

There are many cases that two (or more) different clients call the server at the same and the server tries to call the remote WCF from two different threads simultaneously.
