• Create MAPI profile for exchange 2007 without MAPI client

  Hi, I have a windows server 2003 where I have to create a MAPI profile to read incoming emails of exchange 2007, using a custom utility. I googled a lot and seems that there was a way to do it with newprof.exe utility but it is no longer available. I don't have an outlook license so I need a free way to create MAPI profiles in this server. Thanks. David.

• Can Office365 (Enterprise) sync from a remote LDAP server?

  I am looking in to the details of a migration to Office365 - primarily for the use of hosted Outlook capability. I see that the Enterprise plans have "Active Directory Sync", but details seem scarce. Is it possible to sync an independent LDAP server (such as Apache Directory) up to O365 (I want to keep it separate), or would I need to host a local instance of Active Directory and use that to sync users up to O365?

• Finding Mail (32-bit) in the start menu

  I find myself often visiting the Mail control panel for people I'm helping who use Outlook. However, it never, ever shows up in the start menu for anyones computer: Is there some magic string I can type in to get that menu item? I've tried all the obvious ones: Mail Mail (32-bit) Mail 32 Bit But to no avail. Normally I just go the long way, but with Windows 8 and Metro I'm concerned I'm going to get very frustrated trying to talk users through it over the phone.

• Taglocity install error

  When I run the installer for both taglocity 2 and 3, during the installation I get the following error: Error 1001: Exception occurred while initializing the installation: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorException: Configuration system failed to initalize. When I try to continue with the installation by clicking OK, a dialog appears with the title ADX Loader with the message: The system cannot find the file specified. Clicking OK causes the installation to roll back. I’m using Outlook 2007 on Windows XP.

  In my Small Business Server 2003 environment, I would like to be able to have users manage their own delegate permissions for their Exchange mailboxes. By default, the Outlook delegate feature will not work unless I go to the user object in Active Directory and grant Allow on "Write Personal Information" to SELF. This will work temporarily, but something seems to reset this value shortly afterword. What would cause this automatic reset?

• Exchange 2003 very reliant of 1 on 4 AD servers, Freezes without it

  On-site we have 3 of 4 AD servers (AD1,AD2 and AD4) with AD1 having most of the Operational Master Roles, however when AD2 goes down, freezes or reboots outlook says 'waiting for exchange server AD2', when exchange is on a different box completely. AD4 was just built from scratch and added hoping to get around this reliance on AD2 but it doesn't seem to have any effect, had a look through exchange settings and couldn't find any locations it points to AD2 and no other active directory servers. Would appreciate some help on the matter, Thank You

  Emails often contain invitation to some event at some time on some day. In a single email it would be possible to smartly extract these data elements. In Outlook, one can make calendar item out of email by draging it to calendar - this saves time on the name of the calendar time and having all the details, but the user still has to manually pick time and date. Is there a smart solution so that a plug-in or add-on could do that?

I do not have any admin privilges at all, not even at install time, so I can't run RegAsm and I can't (I assume) write a managed add-in. Is there any way to call .Net code from VBA in this scenario, or are there any other solutions? This is for personal use only, so an ugly hack is perfectly acceptable (so long as it works)

• Using Excel VBA to send emails. Problem with attachments becoming embedded by accident.

  Hi, I am having an issue with an Excel macro I wrote that is used by several users within my company. It is used to send numerous emails daily with attachments that are also Excel workbooks. The issue is that sometimes, instead of the file simply being attached as it should be, it becomes an embedded object. This embedded object is openable by users on the email within the company (after clicking through the "YOu are about to activate an embedded object that may contain viruses or be otherwise harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that it is from a trustworthy source. Do you want to continue?"), but those outside of the company do not see it at all. The email appears to have no attachment at all. Curiously, this appears to happen randomly, and only on some computers. So if the list has 15 email lists and attachments, it seems to happen randomly to anywhere between 0 and 15 of the emails. To be clear, my objective is to send emails with regular attachments. Running Excel 2003, Outlook 2003, and Windows XP. See code below. Please help! • Filter rule for SMS / text messages in exchange active sync (SMS sync)

  Exchange server 2010 introduces SMS Sync (via exchange active sync), which works fine with my android device and the Samsung email app. However, all text messages are synced to my exchange inbox, which is a pain. I'd like to have them filtered to a specific folder. So far, I haven't figured out a useful filter rule for achieving that, since there seems to be no header indicating it's a text message. Has anyone managed to do that? Note that I'm not using Outlook as an email client, so I'm specifically looking for a server-side rule.

• Excel Add-In not loading properly with 64-bit Excel 2013

  I have an Excel Add-In saved to an .xla file in %appdata%\Microsoft\Addins. In the subject version of Excel it is checked on the Add-Ins list. One thing this addin does is create a drop-down menu in ThisWorkbook's Workbook_Open sub. But the menu is not created and there is no Add-Ins tab on the ribbon. No error messages. This works fine in Excel 2010 and 2007 (at least), and worked fine on the 32-bit Excel 2013 that came preinstalled on this system before I nuked it. The really maddening thing is that if I get rid of this addin and open that same .xla file, either by double-clicking or using the Open command in Excel, the menu appears as expected. I get the same behavior if I instead open the source .xls file - it all works. I've also tried saving to a .xlam file instead of .xla, but get the same bad result. Any ideas?

  I have a test application written in C#/ASP.NET that I've developed using Visual Studio 2008 Professional/.NET 3.5 which connects to a local SQL Server 2008 Express instance. I upgraded the development machine to Visual Studio 2010 Professional maintaining .NET 3.5 and everything in the development environment continues to work correctly. Upon deployment of the new app to an internal staging machine, that app cannot connect to its local SQL Server 2008 Express database. I get the customary "server not found" error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible... Does something need to be upgraded on the staging machine to be able to host a Visual Studio 2010/.NET 3.5 application?

• Why does outlook 2013, after initial setup, always fail to connect to an Exchange server/always ask for a password?

  After installing Outlook 2013 configuring it to connect to an exchange server (details about which, e.g., version, etc., I do not know how to provide) was stressful and the user used outlook without issue for a session. The next time outlook is started this error (Re. subject) occurs. The answer to this question solves the issue, or explains why it is happening (i.e., no one could provide a solution). It is only after outlook is closed and re-opened that it will not connect again to the server.   I'm looking for a solution that allows multiple persons to put plan and notify their vacation by putting it in their electronic calendar and invite a dedicated "robot" email. On the other side I should be able to get a quick overview of the vacation for each person and do a print out that allows me to put it on a board. Example: John puts his winter vacation for week 7 into his calendar and invite [email protected]. Ben does the same thing for week 4 and 5 and invites [email protected]. Dilbert host the [email protected] and prints out and overview for the next 3 months. Each person's vacation is either stated by name or/and color on the print out. I would like to do the thing with standard business software like Outlook 2010 without installing too many softwares. But at the same time it should be easy and quick to make the print outs without too much fiddling Am I dreaming ?

  We have an environment that is based on an Active Directory domain (running Windows Server 2003 SP2), an internal email system using Exchange Server 2003 (internal mailbox, nothing online), and the clients run a mixture of MS Outlook 2007&2010, with the majority running 2007. Recently we noticed that Exchange server is taking so much space for mailboxes. We are examining some solutions to reduce space, and it seems that we could make use of the archiving feature to archive older messages. I can set the auto-archive option manually for every individual user, but is there any other easier way to automate that task? Is there any feature in exchange server or active directory domain that enables setting that as a kind of policy or something similar, or a script to be scheduled to run by all users?

I entered the MSDN "Disk 5000: Developer Tools" DVD, opened default.htm, clicked on the "Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010" link. The VSTFS2010 folder open. I click autorun.exe. And then I get "Microsoft Visual Studio Agents 2010 Setup". I don't get it. Why "agents"? I wanted to instal a server!

• How can I unify my email, calendar and tasks (2 exchange accounts + 1 gmail)

  This is my situation: I work as a consultant, and thus work out of multiple computers: my work-laptop a desktop at my primary client my desktop at home an android smartphone an android tablet Likewise, I have multiple accounts: A Microsoft Exchange (2010 AFAIK) account A Microsoft Exchange (2007 AFAIK) account A gmail account The most important thing I need is the ability to have events in one calendar affect the free / busy status of all other accounts (so that if I am busy on Monday 9am with an event from my employer's account, it will show that time as busy in my client's account, and in the gmail account. Second thing I need is a unified view of all of my accounts' info: Appointments, email, tasks, and contacts (in that order of importance). I've already tried outlook synchronization tools such as gSyncit, to sync both exchange accounts with gmail, but this creates a mess when updating appointments (deleted appointments sometimes return, timestamps revert). Is there perhaps some way to at least synchronize the free/busy state in a way that all of my calendar apps / accounts will look there to see if I can be invited? Just solving that would be well worth my while. Thanks, Assaf

• Why can't email clients create rules for moving dates like "yesterday"?

  I've never seen an email client that I could easily create a rule to do something like "Move messages from yesterday to a folder?" Is there some esoteric reason why this would be difficult? I know I can easily create rules around specific dates, but that isn't the same thing by a long shot; am I missing something? In Outlook 2010 I can create search folders that do sort of this type of thing, but you can't create rules around a search folder... seems like either I am missing something major, or this is terribly short-sided.
