Rebuild whole page on callback?

Hello, In asp.net is it a requirement to rebuild the whole page during every callback? For example my web page is split into three distinct areas and I have an update panel for each area. Lets say I want to update the third area, do I have to bother with any processing of the other two areas? For example lets say there is a grid view in area two. The update panel in area three callbacks to update its content. Do I have to rebind the grid in area two? Thanks, AJ

Having been writing Java code for many years, I was amazed when I see this C++ statement: int a,b; int c = (a=1, b=a+2, b*3); My question is: Is this a choice of coding style, or it has real benefit? (looking for a practicle use case) I think the compiler will see it the same as following: int a=1, b=a+2; int c = b*3; (What's the offical name for this? I assume it's a standard C/C++ syntax.)

How is the Trac Project List page customised?

We've been using Trac for a while now for our developers only. However we are now opening it up for our (internal) clients. We have a project listing page (based on the default one that comes with Trac). What we'd like to do, is display more information about the project than what is currently available. I have searched google and here, to see if I can find how to get more information. There seems to be a variable called $project which has .name, .description and .href as attributes. Is there somewhere, a list of the attributes available? Or perhaps a different solution altogether that will allow us to display more information on the project list page. Such as the number of open tickets etc.

Ajax page.replace_html problems with partials in Rails

Hello, I am having a problem with a pretty simple AJAX call in rails. I have a blog-style application and each post has a "like" feature. I want to be able to increment the "like" on each post in the index using AJAX onclick. I got it to work; however, the DOM is a bit tricky here, because no matter what partial its looking at, it will only update the TOP partial. so if I click "like" on post #2, it will update and replace the "likes" on post #1 instead. video player for HTML 5 page not loading

I'm using VideoJS to as my video player for a project I've been working on. Basically I have a div, and I wanted to have the video player within that div, however when I load the page nothing happens, and the video is never played. In fact, the video is never loaded nor shown in the page. I basically copied the example from VideoJS' page. ASP.NET ~ remotely invoking an ASP.NET page

I have two servers running IIS, say, Server-A and Server-B. Server-A is in the DMZ, visible to all users; Server-B is not in the DMZ. I need to provide a way for users to invoke a page on Server-A which will in turn remotely request a page on Server-B, transparently to the user. In other words, Server-A needs to do this on behalf of the user because the user does not have visibility to Server-B. Is this possible and if so, what is the best method to do this?

Set default page to virtual directory in IIS 6

I have two applications, one of which is a store and is located under the virtual directory "store", while the main "application" is the parent website/application. However, when visiting the the top-level website address, I would like to start people in /store/default.aspx (technically "/store/home") but this is not allowed in the entry box in IIS. Currently I am doing the redirect manually in code, but was wondering if there was a way to do this in IIS or something. Thanks for any help.

Future of IE9: Opacity + Performance

I just tried the IE9 "Second Internet Explorer Platform Preview" - which supports CSS opacity now. That's nice, but I tried it with one of my website prototypes, and it's quite slow when scrolling etc. Admittedly, the prototype uses hundreds of images with opacity != 1, but everything is snappy with current versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera. Does anybody know, if there are plans for IE9 to become faster in this area? Even rumours about this would be interesting in this case.

Hi, I'm facing a problem with PeopleSoft queries (using Oracle backend database): when a rather complex query involving multiple records is set off by a user, PS does an enforced join of security records, thus producing SQL like this: select .... from ps_job a, PS_EMPL_SRCQRY a1, ps_table2 b, ps_sec_rcd2 b1, ps_table3 c, ps_sec_rcd3 c1 where (...security joins a-a1, b-b1, c-c1...) and (...joins of a, b and c...) and a.setid_dept = 'XYZ'; (let's assume the last condition has a high selectivity and there is an index on the column) Obviously, due to the arrangement of the conditions, first a huge join is created, written to the temp segment, and when the last condition is finally applied, only a small subset is selected. A query formulated in this way is very likely to hit the preset timeout of the APPSRV, and even of the QRYSRV. When writing the query manually, I would rather move the most selective condition to the start, thus limiting the amount of the data being handled, to a considerable level. Any ideas on how to make PS behave like this? Actually, already rewriting "Oracle-styled" SQL to ANSI SQL seems to accelerate the queries - however, PS writes Oracle-style queries... What I'm trying to do: Connect to the internet without registering But! Here's my problem: I can't connect. I used to be able to, now when I try to connect it says "Server not found." I can connect just fine on my other Laptop. I did a test as well. I used a LAN USB adapter and could connect fine, then now I can't connect again. Possibly because I am using uTorrent to download stuff, but I want to connect again Is there anyway I can use some sort of "virtual adapter"-type of connection where it masks my actual adapter? How can I connect to the connection without having to buy more and more Network USB Adapters? Thanks much!

Hey, I am onto a task in which i have to create a link in a doccument library either upload or new link,clicking on which a form/page "not infopath" will get open and allow to upload the doccument and along with that we have some text boxes on the same page which will be asking for the properties of the doccument(like "Customer of the doccument","content Developer") and after filling up all of the things when user click on submit than in the doccument library the value of the url as well as properties comes into the columns/fields of the doccument library. ASP.Net: Expiring a page when navigating back

Basically all pages on this site I am building cannot be accessed when the user clicks on "Back" (or with key control) in the browser, and the page should expire if one is trying to navigate back in history. I put into Global.asax::Application_BeginRequest Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache) Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.UtcNow.AddDays(-1)) Response.Cache.SetValidUntilExpires(False) Response.Cache.SetRevalidation(HttpCacheRevalidation.AllCaches) Response.Cache.SetNoStore() This would clear out the cache and disallow going back to any pages when the user is logged out, but doesn't do the job while the user is logged in. I saw posts where people suggested using a javascript approach, by calling History.Forward(1) on the page. But I wouldn't like to do this, as it will require javascript enabled to work (which user can disable). Appreciate any suggestions.

Fetch and load a whole page with AJAX

I realize that it's generally not a good idea to do this but the reason why I want to is because it's a really heavy page and I want to show the user progress of the download and when it's done load the page. I can either do this with some kind of spinner but is it possible for me to show the actual progress? Can I see how much and what data has been downloaded? Let's say I use jQuery for the AJAX-request how do I do this? If you have other suggestions please feel free to suggest.

prevent form from automatically re-submitting on page load

I am using jQuery to point a form's target to an iframe on .submit(). This is to upload a file. It works fine, but when the page reloads, and the iframe is appended to the DOM, the iframe automatically resubmits the form, causing the same file to be sent to the server on each page load. If I do not include the iframe in the HTML markup, or do not append it to the DOM, this doesn't happen, but of course, I need the iFrame. So my question is, how can i prevent this? :) Andrew

I want to avoid using cache because for this to work it must first load all the content. I was searching online for possible solution. Getting All categories in external page.

This is very basic magento question i guess. I want to first get all the store categories, then loop through them to get their sub-categories and products and similarly continue till the last sub-category. I will be using this in an external page having Mage::app() declared at the top of the page. I am not aware of the Magento API's(if thats wat they are called) to use to get this functionality. Remember I am not using this in any of the templates, so something like getCurrentCategory() will not work here i guess. Also please guide if there are any good resources to search for particular functionality in magento and API's to implement it, or am i doomed to go through their phpdoc to know the list of methods. Any help here will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Hi, I'm learning ASP.NET MVC 1.0 and need to implement an asynchronous/dynamic page update. I'm new to MVC and jQuery so I'm not sure what to look for. What I want to do is to allow a user to start a monitoring a domain layer function (similar to a news ticker) and then do a partial page update based on the continously changing results. In ASP.NET I'd do this with a javascript timer to cause a postback, and an AJAX update panel..... but this seems a bit "hacky" for ASP.NET MVC. Is there a better way?

Hi guys, I wrote a Flex application that sends a UrlRequest to Facebook and gets the content of page as a string. The application user clicks a button, and the application connects to Facebook. And no I do not mean using Facebook API. It is like a screen scraper. This application worked locally, but when deployed to server it gives a sandbox security error. I have my crossdomain.xml on the root, but I think the problem is not that. Not only Facebook, but I cannot get any web site when the application is deployed on server. What should I do to get the content of a remote web page?

vb.net more performance for moving objects

I have the mission to make a small game for a school project. Pictures boxes, moved by a timer for walking enemies.If there are around 5 or 6 moving picture boxes at the form, my application get troubles and lags. After I kill some enemies (remove them from the Controls Collection of the Form/Panel) It come back smooth. I think the loop of the enemy movement is too complicated but I don't know how to make that simpler.
