• How can I get my UserControl to look like a ComboBox?

  I have a user control containing a TextBox, ToggleButton and Popup, just like the real ComboBox. Now my problem is to style it so that it looks just like the normal ComboBox. In Blend, I can "Edit Template/Edit a Copy..." of a real ComboBox to get the bits and pieces I need to get it to look right. For one Windows theme (Aero). If the application is run on another theme (e.g Luna), the control does not change its look, it still has the Aero look. Do I have to supply a style/template for each Windows theme, or can I somehow get hold of (at run-time) the default ComboBox style and apply it to my UserControl? Instead of making a UserControl, I have tried modifying a real ComboBox to my needs, but I just couldn't get it to work. How can I replace ALL the logic of a ComboBox with my own?

  I have a cross-domain long polling request using getJSON with a callback that looks something like this: $.getJSON("http://long-polling.com/some.fcgi?jsoncallback=?" function(data){ if(data.items[0].rval == 1) { // update data in page } }); The problem is the request to the long-polling service might take a while to return, and another getJSON request might be made in the meantime and update the page even though it is a stale response. Req1: h**p://long-polling.com/some.fcgi at 10:00 AM Req2: h**p://long-polling.com/some.fcgi? at 10:01 AM Req1 returns and updates the data on the page 10:02 AM I want a way to invalidate the return from Req1 if Req2 has already been made. • (UNITY3D) Get slerp to work just as LookAt(,Vector3.right) does

  Ive been working over a sidescroller shooter game. Ive got my sidescroller shooter character to look around with these : chest.LookAt(mousepos,Vector3.right); & chest.LookAt(mousepos,Vector3.left); (Left when the character is turned to the left and right when the character is turned to the right) so it wont aim in to any other axis... But when the mouse gets to cross the middle of the character and not around it it gets the rotation to make a small transportation between frames and it wont get all the way to there.. It'll just teleport to its correct rotation like lookat should. Well the question is, how do I get any quaternion slerp which works with a Time.deltTime to work as same as LookAt(,Vector3.right)? I must have the Vector3.right and left so it'll move trough 1 axis. Many thanks to anyone who helps me out. :)

• .NET Framework - When to Upgrade?

  I’m faced with a challenge of leading two (currently) separate .NET development groups with different development strategies. One group is developing on the .NET Framework 2.0 (with maybe a few applications on 3.5). The other group immediately adopts any new framework that comes out, and begins coding any new applications with it (they are running 2.0-4.0 applications). For this last group, applications written in an earlier version than the latest framework do not get upgraded. What is the current school of thought when it comes to a company developing web applications on when to adopt a new framework, and whether to migrate applications built on previous versions to the latest framework or not? Years ago the thought was to wait until the technology became mainstream - but that doesn't seem to apply much now with .NET.

• Modifying WPF listbox items container when using groupstyle

  I have a listbox that is grouping the items with a GroupStyle. I would like add a control at the bottom of the stackpanel that holds all of the groups. This additional control needs to be part of the scrolling content so that the user would scroll to the bottom of the list to see the control. If I were using a listbox without the groups, this task would be easy by modifying the ListBox template. However, with the items grouped, the ListBox template seems to only apply on a per group basis. I can modify the GroupStyle.Panel, but that doesn't allow me to add items to that panel. <----- I would like to add a control to this stackpanel

• How to redirect on apache after running a script through cgi

  I have an ubuntu machine which I have installed apache on. I want to use a web page to run some simple shell script through cgi and then go back to my home screen. I also want to the go-back step to be automatic. I have set a redirect in my apache.conf which works fine but the script doesn't run at all. Is there a way to run the script and only then apply the redirect? Comment: I think this may be the answer but I'm not sure.

  I was working on a Rails template and was trying to write a bit of code that allows me to populate a table or multiple columns of ul tags "top-to-bottom" and "left-to-right" across however many columns I specify. I'm just getting the hang of Ruby so I couldn't figure this out. I'm also curious about an idiomatic Haskell version for this useful snippet.   Hi, how to convert a string (wstring) from lowercase to uppercase characters and vice versa? I searched the net and found there is a STL-function std::transform. But until now I hav'nt figured out how to give the right locale-object for example "Germany_german" to the function. Who can help please? my code looks like: wstring strin = L"ABCÄÖÜabcäöü"; wstring str = strin; locale loc( "Germany_german" ); // ??? how to apply this ??? std::transform( str.begin(), str.end(), str.begin(), (int(*)(int)tolower ); //result: "abcäöüabcäöü" The characters ÄÖÜ and äöü (it's like Ae, Oe, Ue) will not be converted correctly. If you could help me with the two following issues: I understand that somehow I would be using an array include, but I'm not sure how to implement it. I would like to run a cron that would update the text file and turn it into a regexp acceptable for use in the above example, if you think regexp is a good idea and there isn't another option. I know how to apply a cron in a directadmin gui, but I don't know what the cronned file would look like.

• Connecting to TFS via ASP.NET, jQuery and Phonegap

  I want to develop a mobile application that would allow the user the ability to run a suite of automated test cases housed in TFS. This is something I thought of this morning so it's all still very preliminary. But I'm curious as to what would be the best route for something like this? Or if it's even possible? Because the mobile devices from the users will vary from iphones to droids, I would probably want to incorporate something like Phonegap for it's cross platform capabilities. My initial thought was to develop in ASP.net/C# (which would be stored on a remote server), and have jQuery make calls to that server. Not sure if that would be the most appropriate way of handling this. I'm not too familiar with JSON but I have seen it as a suggestion on various sites to handle the returned data. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

  Next term, I'll need to write a basic operating system for Motorola 68K processor as part of a course lab material. Is there a Linux emulator of a basic hardware setup with that processor? So my partners and I can debug quicker on our computers instead of physically restarting the board and stuff. Is it possible to apply test-driven development technique to OS development? Code will be mostly assembly and C. What will be the main difficulties with trying to test-drive this? Any advice on how to do it?

• Displaying conditional amount of fields in UI (Android)

  I am using layout xml documents for my ui controls. I need to create and remove these controls (input fields) on the fly, based on how many results I get back from my database. For each group, there can be 0..* fields and these are prepopulated from the database. Also, it would be good if I can invoke a method to create an additional field; something like the address book, where you can click + or - to add or remove a phone or other detail. In a "psuedo" style, I'm guessing something like this: Check database - How many of X are there [y]? Create Y fields. The user may then add new fields, so once I click submit i need to apply all of that to database. Any examples or hints greatly welcomed. Hope this make sense! :)

Now I want to used colspan for the specific rows of the table. One way to this is apply css to the that specific row.But problem with this is that Number of column to span are decided by the user input, i.e It may vary every time. So by using css it is something like making it static. So I want to know the way through which I can do colspan on the rows of the table. and Number of column to span is different every time. • How can I use git to stage only one line in a file for commit, all from a script?

  I'm writing a simple pre-commit git hook that updates the year in copyright headers for files that are staged for commit. After modifying the line with the copyright, I would like the hook to stage that line so that it is part of the commit. It can't just git add the whole file, because there may be other pre-existing changes in there that shouldn't be staged. I don't see any options in the git add manual the let you stage specific lines. I figure I could git stash save --keep-index, apply my change, git add the file, and then git stash pop, but that seems rather crude. Any better approaches?

  My fried suggest I try to apply for a job at EMBL. I'm not bioinformatic in any way, but my friend (who by the way is a biologist working at EMBL) insists that I could adapt to the new environment as long as I have a interest in subject and am generally good at learning new things. But here is a catch. For the last 4 years I've been working with .Net and other Microsoft technologies which I enjoy even more lately. Now, from googling I couldn't find whether it will be possible for me to stick with .Net because it was all perl, java, linux and so on. Is there anybody who could prove whether there is at least minor opportunity for a .Net developer to at least partly develop with C#?

  I have an Android project that branched into three different applications, app-1, app-2 and app-3, that apply some customizations. Currently there is a lot of code duplication, making maintenance a nightmare: do the changes in one of the branches, and then merge the other two. So we create a library project, named app-core, that factors out most of the duplicated code. So far so good. When I launch this into an emulator where the application was already loaded (before the refactoring), I get this exception: Re-installation failed due to different application signatures A different signature? But I just added a line in the .classpath to link to the app-core Java project! The main question is: are the existing users going to be bothered by this too? And the side question: Why is it a different signature?

  When mapping a HasMany or HasManyToMany in fluent nhibernate, you can specify the column name to use for the list as a parameter to the AsList() method as follows: HasMany(c => c.Customers) .AsList(c => c.Column("PositionIndex")); I would prefer to be able to set this using a Fluent NHibernate convention (either a pre-existing one, or a custom one), especially since the default name appears to be "Index" which is a reserved word in MSSQL. I've tried using a custom convention implementing IHasManyConvention, but the instance parameter does not seem to contain the information about whether its a list, a bag, or a set, and also does not contain the column details for the index column. public void Apply(IOneToManyCollectionInstance instance) { } Any ideas?

I have the regex to strip the text before the "@" symbol (e.g. "[email protected]" becomes "name") I would then like to take the "name" and create a vanity url (e.g. domain.com/name or name.domain.com) Any thoughts on how to accomplish this with Wordpress? I'm a pretty advanced Wordpress user and my first thoughts were to do the following Verify user registration Upon successful user registration create page name with username as the title (this would help me achieve the www.domain.com/username) Apply preset template to that page with the desired view Any and all thoughts are welcome.

I have assigned this resource file as background to the button while creating the button in Layout. But the change is not reflected after executing the application. I have set the ContentView for that screen as : setContentView(LayoutInflater.from(getParent()).inflate(R.layout.textmessage,null)); This has to be done to make spinner work in an Activity Group. This code works good, but if I have multiple columns to add this rule to, it would generate as many 'nullbuster' columns. ALTER TABLE tblBranch ADD nullbuster AS (CASE WHEN column1 IS NULL THEN BranchID ELSE NULL END); CREATE UNIQUE INDEX UK_Column1 ON tblBranch(column1,nullbuster); tblBranch is the table name, nullbuster would be the new column name, BranchId is the Primary key column of the target table, and Column1 is the column name of the target column. Is there any way that I could achieve the goal without generating new columns.

• What is the proper way to check the previous value of a field before saving an object? (Using Django

  I have a Django Model with updated_by and an approved_by fields, both are ForeignKey fields to the built-in (auth) User models. I am aware that with updated_by, it's easy enough to simply over-ride the .save() method on the Model, and shove the request.user in that field before saving. However, for approved_by, this field should only ever be filled in when a related field (date_approved) is first filled in. I'm somewhat certain that I can check this logically, and fill in the field if the previous value was empty. What is the proper way to check the previous value of a field before saving an object? I do not anticipate that date_approved will ever be changed or updated, nor should there be any reason to ever update the approved_by entry. UPDATE: Regarding forms/validation, I should have mentioned that none of the fields in question are seen by or editable by users of the site. If I have misunderstood, I'm sorry, but I'm not sure how forms and validation apply to my question.

• The importance of knowing c++ for web application development

  I'm a php developer and I want to broaden my knowledge base by learning a higher language (java, c#, c++). My specialty is in building web applications (ria etc). I'm trying to think of the appropriate path to take (hedging my bets so to speak) in terms of which language I should be focusing on. I love open source technology but at the same time C# seems to be getting a lot of notoriety. Despite the newer technologies available there still remains c++ which is the staple for many popular vendors including google and facebook (hip hop) in building scalable and robust cross platform apps. Can anyone offer suggestions as to how I should be looking at this. Should I go Java, C# or C++). They all take time to master and I just want to choose a specialty. Thanks
