  • Bacula optimization/profiling tools

    I'm trying to get an idea of where the bottlenecks are in our backup system. Are there tools available for profiling this? If not, any pointers to a home grown method would also help. I guess most of the info would be in the bacula logs, but I'd also like to see things like what gets saturated during despooling: disk, CPU or network? This feels like a problem most bacula admins would have encountered.

It seems like this was a feature in control panel somewhere, but now I can't find it to turn if off. I know I used to use Tweak UI in older versions of windows to do this, and before that I could edit the registry . . . but it appears they changed it for Windows 7

  • Hard Drive Physical Disc Swap

    Is it possible, and if so, what would it take to do a hard drive disc swap? If a HD has a damaged PCB board, but the actual disc inside the drive where all the information is stored is not damaged, is it possible to take that disc and put it in another hard drive whose PCB board is not damaged? (as long as both are the same type, SATA to SATA, etc.) Can this be done at home? Any special requirements?

    I recently downloaded a piece of software that came in a .ZIP archive, but the .EXE software inside of the archive had a password on it. The website that I would have gotten the password from closed a while ago. Because the executable is password protected it cannot be extracted. I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium, and I use winrar for my archives. So, I guess my question is is it possible to crack a password for a file within an archive without extracting it?

    I have an application running on tomcat and fronted with Apache. My server name is www.abc.com so in my vHost setting I have DocumentRoot /home/user/www.abc.com ServeName www.abc.com ProxyPass /app http://localhost:8080/app ProxyPassReverse /app http://localhost:8080/app The DocumentRoot has a static file index.html, which I would like to serve when www.abc.com is requested and all other requests should be directed to tomcat via the proxypass.   • amazon ec2 ubuntu with gitlab and nginx - cant load?

    Ok, so I've spooled up an Amazon EC2 server running Ubuntu, and then followed the instructions below to install GitLab; http://doc.gitlab.com/ce/install/installation.html The only step I've not been able to complete is running the following check on the status; sudo -u git -H bundle exec rake gitlab:check RAILS_ENV=production I get the following error; rake aborted! Errno::ENOMEM: Cannot allocate memory - whoami Which I presume is becuase my EC2 is just running a free tier setup, so isn't that well spec'd. Regardless, I've been trying to access this through my browser. I've set up the elastic IP and pointed my domain at it (for the purpose of this, lets say its git.mydom.co.uk). Doing a whois on this domain shows me its pointing to the right place. For some reason though, I get the "Oops, Chrome could not connect to git.mydom.co.uk". Now - for a period of time I was getting the Nginx holding page (telling me I still needed to perform configuration). This though disappeared after removing the default file from /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/ (after reading this could be issue on a troubleshooting page). Since then, I've had nothing, even when I symlinked the file back in from /sites-available. I've tried changing the owner of the git.mydom.co.uk file sat inside /sites-enabled and /sites-available to www-data, as suggested here, but I could only change the permission of the file in /sites-available, and not the symlinked one in /sites-enabled.   • weird SSH connection timed out

    This problem started when I tried to login to my brand spaning new VPS server. I remember that in my first SSH try on the server I actually got prompt for password several times which would mean that there is no port blocking problem from my isp. Since the password did'nt work for me (for some reason). I had a lot of authentication failure. After that attempting to log in to the server just timed out. I did the same at mediatemple (which used to work before with sftp) and put in wrong password and now trying to ssh (or even SFTP) gives me timeout error. So some kind of security feature is preventing me from trying too many times to log in, either from my side or from the server side. Any idea what it could be? TRaceroute and ping works on the ips.     I have a D-Link home router and my isp is Time warner. When I try to login to any site it does not let me. The website does not keep me logged in when I navigate the pages. I have to keep loging in for every web page I see. When I connect my cable modem directly to my computer I am able to stay logged in. Any ideas here?

    Sometimes when I simply type a valid command like 'find ...', or anything really, I get back the following, which is completely unexpected and confusing (... is command name I type): sh: $'\302\211...': command not found There is some corruption going on I think. I don't use color in my prompt, I am using the Bash shell in POSIX mode as sh (chsh to /bin/sh and so on - $SHELL is sh). What is going on and why does this keep happening? Anything I can debug? I think this is more of an xterm issue than sh, or at least a combination of the two.     I want to install qt4reactor so I went to the github page, it says: Unpack this directory into your PYTHONPATH I don't know what that means. I unziped the file and I tried to add the path to PYTHOPNPATH in the .bashrc file like this: export PYTHONPATH=/home/jacos/qtreactor But I can't import it whatsoever. What I want to ask is where exactly is my PYTHONPATH? How can I find that out? What's the right way to do this?

  • Slow tab completion for paths in`make' arguments

    When I'm specifying an argument for make like PREFIX_PATH=/some/path/to/prefix/ I sometimes experience very slow completion for my directories (a few seconds). It's annoying when I've got several variables to specify. To get around the problem I've been typing out the variables first to get regular completion speed, then hitting home' to insertmake` that the start of my command line. What is happening and how can I fix it?

  • File and Printer Sharing / Samba / 139 being blocked but where

    I just set up my new remote office network the problem is i cannot access shared folders to the home office (without turning on the vpn) I control the servers remotely but would really like to access ports 139 and 445. The problem is that they are open on the server side but it appears as though the packets are being dropped before they get get to the server... any way i can tell where the packet is being dropped?

  • How to change the "record external input" in Fraps?

    I'm using a TV to USB capture thingy called Hauppauge USB-Live2 (http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_usblive2.html) and I'm using Media Player Classic Home Cinema to view my device's output, and finally I'm using Fraps to record the output off of MPC. It all works nicely except I can't get my mic to record, or even show up in the "Record External Input" area of Fraps while my Hauppauge is plugged in. My question is: How can I select my mic as the "record external input" in fraps?
