• High Server Load cannot figure out why

  My server is currently running CentOS 5.2, with WHM 11.34. Currently, we're at 6.43 to 12 for a load average. The sites that we're hosting are taking a lot time to respond and resolve. top doesn't show anything out of the ordinary and iftop doesn't show a lot of traffic. • Why does Outlook 2010 give the message "Creating a new item from the selected items could take some time...are you sure you create a new item...?

  I'm using Outlook 2010 with Exchange 2007. I am moving emails from my Deleted Items folder to a user-created folder. When I move a "low" number of messages, say a few hundred or less, the operation completes successfully. When I move a "large" number of messages (in this example it's over 800) I get the message shown in the screenshot below. If I click Yes, a new email is generated and has links to all the emails I selected in the Attachment field. When I cancel that email, not only have the messages not moved but they appear to be deleted entirely. What does the message mean and why does it get presented? Why does clicking Yes do the behavior I described above?

  I need some help understanding some of the points from Paul Graham's article http://www.paulgraham.com/diff.html A new concept of variables. In Lisp, all variables are effectively pointers. Values are what have types, not variables, and assigning or binding variables means copying pointers, not what they point to. A symbol type. Symbols differ from strings in that you can test equality by comparing a pointer. A notation for code using trees of symbols. The whole language always available. There is no real distinction between read-time, compile-time, and runtime. You can compile or run code while reading, read or run code while compiling, and read or compile code at runtime. What do these points mean How are they different in languages like C or Java? Do any other languages other than LISP family languages have any of these constructs now?

• Good IDE for Mono on Windows

  I would like to develop Mono application for Win/Linux/Mac in C# on Windows. Is there any really good (Visual Studio comparable) IDE for that? The best would be if I could manage Visual C# Express to compile solutions using the Mono compiler. I've found a #develop IDE, which looks very cool and has many features that Express edition of the Visual Studio hasn't (like plugins for TortoiseSVN, NUnit, etc). Hovewer the 3.* versions dropped support for Mono, so you are no longer able to compile solutions using the Mono compiler. There is also a MonoDevelop. I've tried it and it sucks. Not comparable to Visual Studio at all. No WinForms designer, + tons of other missing features. I would just like if they would drop the development of MonoDevelop and build a plugin for #develop instead. Is there any other good enough IDE, or is it possible to make the Visual C# Express or #develop compile the solutions with Mono compiler?

Here's some examples: '1 1/2' -> 1.5 '11/2' -> 5.5 '7/8' -> 0.875 '3' -> 3 '7.7' -> 7.7 I'm currently using this function, but I think it could be improved. • Using Kate with Simple Build Tool (SBT)

  Hello I am working with the Kate editor based on the lack of other good tools for Scala development, I am also using IntelliJ however it still has some bugs, and are slow enough to make me impatient. I have just startet using both Kate and SBT, and in that regard I have a little challenge I hope there is an answer for out there on "The Internet". I am using the standard "Build plugin" in Kate and has changed the commands from make to sbt. This works fine, and I am also getting a error report when the sbt fails during compile time. However I really wish to know if it is possible to integrate the compile errors into Kate such that it would be shown under "Errors and Warnings" instead of just in the output tab, where I have to do a manual search for the compile errors. Im guessing that it has something to do with the format of the output, if that is the case maybe it is "just" a smaller adjustment I need to make to the parsing language.

But if #1 is replaced by Pattern p = Pattern.compile("\d");, it gives compiler error saying illegal escape character. In #1 I also tried printing the pattern specified in the command line arguments. It prints \d, which means it is just getting replaced by \d in #2. So then why won't it throw any exception? At the end it's string argument that Pattern.compile() is taking, doesn't it detect illegal escape character then? Can someone please explain why is this behaviour?

• GUI freezes when executing def function. Use threads?

  Hi, I've made a small program which has 2 buttons and each does certain thing. Here's a simplified version of the code. Thing is it works fine except that the button freezes and stays in a clicked position and whole GUI freezes until the command is completed. As far as I know threads would be best to use in this situation, but I have no idea how to implement it in this example. • Creating a MSI patch (.msp) by hand?

  Our team has recently been considering pushing out a minor registry fix to users to modify one particular problematic key. Pretty straightforward stuff, just needed to update 1 key/value inside the registry. So at the moment, we are using Wix to build .msi installers for the product. While looking into Wix's support for generating .msp patch files, it seems that the only way to create an .msp is a somewhat overcomplicated multi-step process to: Get a copy of the original MSI, and compile a new copy of the fixed MSI Write a new Wix file that points to both installers Compile the Wix file into a .wixobj with Candle to a .psp Run Torch/Pyro over before/after snapshots of the original installers and the .psp, or alternatively using MsiMsp.exe Now my question is, can't I simply describe the registry change into a Wix file and directly compile it into the .msp, without step 1 and 4 - which is a huge amount of effort for just a simple change?

  Consider an ASP.NET MVC application using the Salt parameter in the [ValidateAntiForgeryToken] directive. The scenario is such that the app will be used by many customers. It's not terribly desirable to have the Salt known at compile time. The current strategy is to locate the Salt value in the web.config. [ValidateAntiForgeryToken(Salt = Config.AppSalt)] //Config.AppSalt is a static property that reads the web.config. This leads to a compile-time exception suggesting that the Salt must be a const at compile time. • makefile compilation problem

  He I have a problem with a makefile. I have three classes. They do pretty simple stuff. One does an addition on a subtraction, and the last one will instantiate the two and simply print the resulted addition and subtraction. Now when I create my makefile, I compile my Plus.java and my Minus.java but don't know how to compile the main class because it depends on the previous two. I want to compile and run it from the makefile if it's possible. I get the above results when I try to run make: javac -g Plus.class Minus.class javac: invalid flag: Plus.class Usage: javac use -help for a list of possible options make: * [Operation.class] Error 2 I don't know how to procede, please forgive me if my question is to simple but I am new working with these stuff.   I upgraded to the latest version of gmaps4rails (v2) and am having some issues getting polylines drawing. I can get markers working with the sample code on the wiki, but if I change the addMarkers to addPolylines, nothing renders in the map.   I'm trying to compile a simple example of generic classes / type patterns (see http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/latest/html/users_guide/generic-classes.html) in Haskell but it won't compile. Any ideas about what's wrong with the code would be helpful. According to the documentation there should be a module Generics with the data types Unit, :*:, and :+: but ghc (6.12.1) complaints about Not in scope: data constructor 'Unit' etc. It seems like there's a package instant-generics with the data types :*:, :+: and U but when I import that module (instead of Generics) I get the error Illegal type pattern in the generic bindings {myPrint _ = ""} The complete source code is import Generics.Instant class MyPrint a where myPrint :: a -> String myPrint {| U |} _ = "" myPrint {| a :*: b |} (x :*: y) = "" (show x) ++ ":*:" ++ (show y) myPrint {| a :+: b |} _ = "" data Foo = Foo String instance MyPrint a => MyPrint a main = myPrint $ Foo "hi" and I compile it using ghc --make Foo.hs -fglasgow-exts -XGenerics -XUndecidableInstances P.S. • How can I force maven to use my mock version of dependencies during the test phase.

  Hi, so I have a Java application with a that accesses some web services. I want to mock out the appropriate classes so I can just use a few hard coded request/responses and I want maven to seamlessly use them during the tests and ignore them during the final build. I want maven2 to: 1)compile my mock classes 2)compile the main classes that depend on the mocked code 3)run tests 4)recompile any main classes with the real dependencies, not my mocks 5)finish up the maven install Ideally I want to just name my mock classes the same as my main class and just keep them in src/test/mocks or something. I'm kind of new to maven and so far it looks like maven will only compile the src/main and then src/test but I'm hoping I can have my way. Any ideas?

  Is it possible to compile some code-behind (.cs) files (eg. all .cs file under a particular folder) into one DLL, and the rest into another DLL? We have some common codes and pages (aspx + cs files) that we want to use across many websites. We want this to compile into a DLL (eg. Common.dll). The rest of the files will be website-specific, unique to each website and should compile into another DLL (eg. Website3.dll) This is so that if we make changes to a common code-behind, we can just publish Common.dll onto all our websites. Is that possible using VS Web Developer Express 2008? Thanks in advance. EDIT: We are already using a class library, but not for pages (aspx+cs)

  I'm trying to create a base repository for use with Entity Framework 4.0 and having some trouble. In this code below, why is it not possible to do this in one line? public IEnumerable<T> GetAll<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> filter) { IEnumerable<T> allCustomers = this.GetAll<T>(); IEnumerable<T> result = allCustomers.Where(filter.Compile()); return result; } Won't this result in 2 SQL statements: one without a where clause that retrieves all rows, and one with a where clause that only retrieves the rows that match the predicate? How can this be done with a single SQL statement? I can't get it to compile if I try to cast the filter.Compile() to Func<Customer, bool>. Thanks, Andy
