Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 9.1 and every time I open a terminal window, I lose the previous command's history. How can I configure it so it's kept even after rebooting? Thanks.
I have iGoogle as my home page. Every time that I start up Firefox with the intent to go to a specific page, I end up typing half the URL in the Google search box when iGoogle steals focus away from the URL bar. Is there any way to hack Firefox (or iGoogle) to keep the page from stealing my cursor on load? Thanks!

hi,
i'm having a strange problem with photoshop:
i'm creating a new layer then use the path tool for drawing something.
the new path will then only show up under "paths" but the current layer remains empty.
shouldn't it show up there being labelled as "shape"?
what i want is creating a path, apply layer styles to it and keep the possibilty to change that path with layer styles applied.
seems like some setting was changed inside my cs4
thanks
I wonder if you can help me out... at the moment were using exim to relay our emails to an smtp_relay.
The only problem is if the user exists and has an email address it won't exit the server and send them mail using our relay.
I need it to go to the relay even if it's an internal email address.
Hope that make sense, this is how we have got our relay setup at the moment
smart_route:
driver = manualroute
domains = !+local_domains
transport = remote_smtp_smtpauth
route_list = * smtp.sendgrid.net:587
Thanks
I am trying to figure out how I can connect to an ESX server's storage system so that I can upload VM image files. I am a windows user if that matters (i suspect it does).
Thanks in advance
Hej,
I have reserved a Linux and a Windows instances in Amazon EC2. I would like to access between each other through SSH. I have installed cygwin (with openssh package) in the Windows instance but I would like to know how shoud I configure it for accessing to the Linux instance and also being accessed from it?
Thanks in advance ;)
I am pondering on what would be any implications in logging in via SSH as root?
Surely SSH is safe or am I kidding myself and falling for the unwary ethic of logging into a remote Linux box as root?
Thanks.
How does one judge potential memory and processor needs for linux web servers? Specifically, given:
A Debian or Ubuntu OS
Running a web server (apache2), and
A database (MySQL), and
A DNS server (bind), and
Being used by up to 100 concurrent users, at some points each downloading high-resolution (0.5 to 1 MB) images via a web app.
How much should one budget in terms of RAM, type of processor(s), and number of cores?
Thanks!
I was wondering if anyone have experience with building server rooms in shipping containers, how viable it is, and what to look out for.
We need more space, but can't build due to restrictions, so we are wondering about placing down some permanent containers to house servers, i know it has been done before, but i was wondering if anyone has any experience with this.
Could help me out a lot in upcoming meetings with building companies!
Thanks!
Recently my internet speed has slowed dramatically, I'm wondering if there's a certain process that's eating up all my traffic behind the scene without my notice. i'm wondering if there's a software that would show the process thats using my bandwidth (both incoming and outgoing) Thanks
I have some xml that looks like this in each report:
Header
Cell
/Cell
Cell
/Cell
...
/Header
In each cell I need to add:
<property name="borderBottomColor">#E1E1E1</property>
<property name="borderBottomStyle">solid</property>
<property name="borderBottomWidth">thin</property>
This will take me about a week to do manually.
Is there a tool that could do this?
Thanks
What exactly does the stanza
limit nproc 20 20
in an Upstart job do?
I've read the documentation here (http://upstart.ubuntu.com/wiki/Stanzas#limit), and it seems
like it would limit nproc for any process related to the job. However, I don't see this effect when I've added this to my job's conf file - in this specific case, I've confirmed that my test job's single process was able to fork more than 20 child processes. Any advice?
Thanks.
Microsoft offers the standalone Hyper-V server for free. I'm wondering if I can install roles other than the Hyper-V role on this? I know installing other roles alongside Hyper-V is a bad practice, but what I'm trying to ask is if the Hyper-V Server edition of Windows Server allows installation of other roles, like DNS server, File Server etc. Infact I'm not interested in running Hyper-V, just looking for a free windows server to install some roles on.
Thanks
Hi, we have some issues with a client-server based application and we would like to better understand client-server communication without going to the software company that sold the application. At least we would like to perform the analysis in parallel.
Can you suggest to me a dummy proof application that we can easily get and install to analyze client-server traffic?
Many thanks!
I want to install Windows XP on My desktop computer (only XP) but my cd drive has gone bust.
I have tried to search for installation tutorials but I found only those in which people tell me how to install it ON the pen drive rather than FROM the pendrive.
Please help out! Thanks in Advance
I understand the 32 bit Vista limit in addressing only 4Gb of memory space but I have a very specific question:
I have 3Gb installed on a Vista 32 bit system with a 512Mb video card, MSI X-58 board, Intel i7, 920 CPU.
System Information currently shows:
Installed Memory: 3.00Gb
Available Physical Memory: 1.73 Gb
My understanding is that the 512Mb video card occupies memory addresses between 4.0Gb and 3.5Gb and so does not subtract from the 3.0Gb of physical memory (correct my understanding if wrong)
My Question: If I install another 1Gb of RAM, will my Available Memory increase to 2.73Gb?
Thanks, Bob423
I was wondering what are the best ways on local Windows for resuming transfer of files over ssh from remote linux?
I tried SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.9, but I cannot find it works for resuming.
I tried Putty's psftp. It also seems not having the resuming ability.
Thanks and regards!
I suspect that I have delected the kernel in my Solaris 2.6 workstation. I may have deleted /kernel by accident. Now on bootup I get the error "misc/krtld not found". I have the Solaris 2.6 installation disks. Is it possible to re-install without a reformat? Thanks for your help!
I'm trying to run a Maintenance Cleanup Task to remove .bak files older than 2 days (simple enough).
Been trying all variety of .bak, BAK, .*., and editing the path, but the files are still not getting removed even though I receive a "job succeeded" log message.
I'm not at the point where I believe it's a folder permission issue.
How do I make sure my SA has the proper permissions to remove files from a folder?
Thanks.
I'm a Windows user and am just getting my feet wet with Python and some other languages. I keep having to deal with the Command Prompt, and it doesn't bother me, but I'm sure there are some free alternatives out there that look a lot nicer and probably pack a bigger punch.
Any suggestions would be nice. Thanks!
Hi,
Im relatively new to Ubuntu, Im wondering how easy it is to write what I think is called a shell script to make tasks a little easier.
For example I frequently connect to a server - ssh -p 123 [email protected]
Can and how could I shorten this to a shorter command like "mysite" or "connect mysite"
Thanks.
