  • Three ways to upload/post/convert iMovie to YouTube [closed]

    - by alexyu2010
    For Mac users, iMovie is probably a convenient tool for making, editing their own home movies so as to upload to YouTube for sharing with more people. However, uploading iMovie files to YouTube can't be always a smooth run, I did notice many people complaining about it. This article is delivered for guiding those who are haunted by the nightmare by providing three common ways to upload iMovie files to YouTube. YouTube and iMovie YouTube is the most popular video sharing website for users to upload, share and view videos. It empowers anyone with an Internet connection the ability to upload video clips and share them with friends, family and the world. Users are invited to leave comments, pick favourites, send messages to each other and watch videos sorted into subjects and channels. YouTube accepts videos uploaded in most container formats, including WMV (Windows Media Video), 3GP (Cell Phones), AVI (Windows), MOV (Mac), MP4 (iPod/PSP), FLV (Adobe Flash), MKV (H.264). These include video codecs such as MP4, MPEG and WMV. iMovie is a common video editing software application comes with every Mac for users to edit their own home movies. It imports video footage to the Mac using either the Firewire interface on most MiniDV format digital video cameras, the USB port, or by importing the files from a hard drive where users can edit the video clips, add titles, and add music. Since 1999, eight versions of iMovie have been released by Apple, each with its own functions and characteristic, and each of them deal with videos in a way more or less different. But the most common formats handled with iMovie if specialty discarded as far as to my research are MOV, DV, HDV, MPEG-4. Three ways for successful upload iMovie files to YouTube Solution one and solution two suitable for those who are 100 certainty with their iMovie files which are fully compatible with YouTube. For smooth uploading, you are required to get a YouTube account first. Solution 1: Directly upload iMovie to YouTube Step 1: Launch iMovie, select the project you want to upload in YouTube. Step 2: Go to the file menu, click Share, select Export Movie Step 3: Specify the output file name and directory and then type the video type and video size. Solution 2: Post iMovie to YouTube straightly Step 1: Launch iMovie, choose the project you want to post in YouTube Step 2: From the Share menu, choose YouTube Step 3: In the pop-up YouTube windows, specify the name of your YouTube account, the password, choose the Category and fill in the description and tags of the project. Tick Make this movie more private on the bottom of the window, if possible, to limit those who can view the project. Click Next, and then click Publish. iMovie will automatically export and upload the movie to YouTube. Step 4: Click Tell a Friend to email friends and your family about your film. You are also allowed to copy the URL from Tell a Friend window and paste it into an email you created in your favourite email application if you like. Anyone you send to email to will be able to follow the URL directly to your movie. Note: Videos uploaded to YouTube are limited to ten minutes in length and a file size of 2GB. Solution 3: Upload to iMovie after conversion If neither of the above mentioned method works, there is still a third way to turn to. Sometimes, your iMovie files may not be recognized by YouTube due to the versions of iMovie (settings and functions may varies among versions), video itself (video format difference because of file extension, resolution, video size and length), compatibility (videos that are completely incompatible with YouTube). In this circumstance, the best and reliable method is to convert your iMovie files to YouTube accepted files, iMovie to YouTube converter will be inevitably the ideal choice. iMovie to YouTube converter is an elaborately designed tool for convert iMovie files to YouTube workable WMV, 3GP, AVI, MOV, MP4, FLV, MKV for smooth uploading with hard-to-believe conversion speed and second to none output quality. It can also convert between almost all popular popular file formats like AVI, WMV, MPG, MOV, VOB, DV, MP4, FLV, 3GP, RM, ASF, SWF, MP3, AAC, AC3, AIFF, AMR, WAV, WMA etc so as to put on various portable devices, import to video editing software or play on vast amount video players. iMovie to YouTube converter can also served as an excellent video editing tool to meet your specific program requirements. For example, you can cut your video files to a certain length, or split your video files to smaller ones and select the proper resolution suitable for demands of YouTube by Clip or Settings separately. Crop allows you to cut off unwanted black edges from your videos. Besides, you can also have a good command of the whole process or snapshot your favourite pictures from the preview window. More can be expected if you have a try.

  • My linux server takes more than an hour to boot. Suggestions?

    - by jamieb
    I am building a CentOS 5.4 system that boots off a compact flash card using a card reader that emulates an IDE drive. It literally takes about an hour to boot. The ultra-slow part occurs when Grub is loading the kernel. Once that's done, the rest of the boot process only takes about a minute to get to a login prompt. Does anyone have any suggestions? I suspect that it may have to do with UDMA. Everything IDE-related in my BIOS seems to checkout. The read performance hdparm is telling me 1.77 MB/s. Ouch! (But even at that rate, it still shouldn't take an hour to decompress and load the kernel) [root@server ~]# hdparm -tT /dev/hdc /dev/hdc: Timing cached reads: 2444 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1222.04 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 6 MB in 3.39 seconds = 1.77 MB/sec Trying to enable DMA is a no-go though: [root@server ~]# hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc /dev/hdc: setting using_dma to 1 (on) HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted using_dma = 0 (off) Here's some command outputs that might help: System [root@server ~]# uname -a Linux server.localdomain 2.6.18-164.el5xen #1 SMP Thu Sep 3 04:47:32 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux PCI info: [root@server ~]# lspci -v 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ/P/PL Memory Controller Hub (rev 02) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ/P/PL Memory Controller Hub Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Capabilities: [e0] Vendor Specific Information 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10 Memory at fdf00000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] I/O ports at ff00 [size=8] Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Memory at fdf80000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256K] Capabilities: [90] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit- Queue=0/0 Enable- Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [UHCI]) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 I/O ports at fe00 [size=32] 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [UHCI]) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17 I/O ports at fd00 [size=32] 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [UHCI]) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18 I/O ports at fc00 [size=32] 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [UHCI]) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 19 I/O ports at fb00 [size=32] 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 01) (prog-if 20 [EHCI]) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 Memory at fdfff000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [58] Debug port 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev e1) (prog-if 01 [Subtractive decode]) Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Bus: primary=00, secondary=01, subordinate=01, sec-latency=32 I/O behind bridge: 0000d000-0000dfff Memory behind bridge: fde00000-fdefffff Prefetchable memory behind bridge: 00000000fdd00000-00000000fdd00000 Capabilities: [50] #0d [0000] 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 01) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Bridge Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0 Capabilities: [e0] Vendor Specific Information 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family) SATA IDE Controller (rev 01) (prog-if 80 [Master]) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family) SATA IDE Controller Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17 I/O ports at <unassigned> I/O ports at <unassigned> I/O ports at <unassigned> I/O ports at <unassigned> I/O ports at f800 [size=16] Capabilities: [70] Power Management version 2 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 01) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 17 I/O ports at 0500 [size=32] 01:04.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. • Find optimal/good-enough strategy and AI for the game 'Proximity'?

    - by smci
    'Proximity' is a strategy game of territorial domination similar to Othello, Go and Risk. Two players, uses a 10x12 hex grid. Game invented by Brian Cable in 2007. Seems to be a worthy game for discussing a) optimal algorithm then b) how to build an AI. Strategies are going to be probabilistic or heuristic-based, due to the randomness factor, and the insane branching factor (20^120). So it will be kind of hard to compare objectively. A compute time limit of 5s per turn seems reasonable. Game: Flash version here and many copies elsewhere on the web Rules: here Object: to have control of the most armies after all tiles have been placed. Each turn you received a randomly numbered tile (value between 1 and 20 armies) to place on any vacant board space. If this tile is adjacent to any ally tiles, it will strengthen each tile's defenses +1 (up to a max value of 20). If it is adjacent to any enemy tiles, it will take control over them if its number is higher than the number on the enemy tile. Thoughts on strategy: Here are some initial thoughts; setting the computer AI to Expert will probably teach a lot: minimizing your perimeter seems to be a good strategy, to prevent flips and minimize worst-case damage like in Go, leaving holes inside your formation is lethal, only more so with the hex grid because you can lose armies on up to 6 squares in one move low-numbered tiles are a liability, so place them away from your main territory, near the board edges and scattered. You can also use low-numbered tiles to plug holes in your formation, or make small gains along the perimeter which the opponent will not tend to bother attacking. a triangle formation of three pieces is strong since they mutually reinforce, and also reduce the perimeter Each tile can be flipped at most 6 times, i.e. when its neighbor tiles are occupied. Control of a formation can flow back and forth. Sometimes you lose part of a formation and plug any holes to render that part of the board 'dead' and lock in your territory/ prevent further losses. Low-numbered tiles are obvious-but-low-valued liabilities, but high-numbered tiles can be bigger liabilities if they get flipped (which is harder). One lucky play with a 20-army tile can cause a swing of 200 (from +100 to -100 armies). So tile placement will have both offensive and defensive considerations. Comment 1,2,4 seem to resemble a minimax strategy where we minimize the maximum expected possible loss (modified by some probabilistic consideration of the value ß the opponent can get from 1..20 i.e. a structure which can only be flipped by a ß=20 tile is 'nearly impregnable'.) I'm not clear what the implications of comments 3,5,6 are for optimal strategy. Interested in comments from Go, Chess or Othello players. (The sequel ProximityHD for XBox Live, allows 4-player -cooperative or -competitive local multiplayer increases the branching factor since you now have 5 tiles in your hand at any given time, of which you can only play one. Reinforcement of ally tiles is increased to +2 per ally.)

  • Flex 4: Traversing the Stage More Easily

    - by Steve
    The following is a MXML Module I am producing in Flex 4: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <mx:Module xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" creationComplete="init()" layout="absolute" width="100%" height="100%"> <fx:Declarations> <!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here --> </fx:Declarations> <fx:Style source="BMChartModule.css" /> <s:Panel id="panel" title="Benchmark Results" height="100%" width="100%" dropShadowVisible="false"> <mx:TabNavigator id="tn" height="100%" width="100%" /> </s:Panel> <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ import flash.events.Event; import mx.charts.ColumnChart; import mx.charts.effects.SeriesInterpolate; import mx.controls.Alert; import spark.components.BorderContainer; import spark.components.Button; import spark.components.Label; import spark.components.NavigatorContent; import spark.components.RadioButton; import spark.components.TextInput; import spark.layouts.*; private var xml:XML; private function init():void { var seriesInterpolate:SeriesInterpolate = new SeriesInterpolate(); seriesInterpolate.duration = 1000; xml = parentApplication.model.xml; var sectorList:XMLList = xml.SECTOR; for each(var i:XML in sectorList) { var ncLayout:HorizontalLayout = new HorizontalLayout(); var nc:NavigatorContent = new NavigatorContent(); nc.label = i.@NAME; nc.name = "NC_" + nc.label; nc.layout = ncLayout; tn.addElement(nc); var cC:ColumnChart = new ColumnChart(); cC.percentWidth = 70; cC.name = "CC"; nc.addElement(cC); var bClayout:VerticalLayout = new VerticalLayout(); var bC:BorderContainer = new BorderContainer(); bC.percentWidth = 30; bC.layout = bClayout; nc.addElement(bC); var bClabel:Label = new Label(); bClabel.percentWidth = 100; bClabel.text = "Select a graph to view it in the column chart:"; var dpList:XMLList = sectorList.(@NAME == i.@NAME).DATAPOINT; for each(var j:XML in dpList) { var rB:RadioButton = new RadioButton(); rB.groupName = "dp"; rB.label = j.@NAME; rB.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, rBclick); bC.addElement(rB); } } } private function rBclick(e:MouseEvent):void { var selectedTab:NavigatorContent = this.tn.selectedChild as NavigatorContent; var colChart:ColumnChart = selectedTab.getChildByName("CC") as ColumnChart; trace(selectedTab.getChildAt(0)); } ]]> </fx:Script> </mx:Module> I'm writing this function rBclick to redraw the column chart when a radio button is clicked. In order to do this I need to find the column chart on the stage using actionscript. I've currently got 3 lines of code in here to do this: var selectedTab:NavigatorContent = this.tn.selectedChild as NavigatorContent; var colChart:ColumnChart = selectedTab.getChildByName("CC") as ColumnChart; trace(selectedTab.getChildAt(0)); Getting to the active tab in the tabnavigator is easy enough, but then selectedTab.getChildAt(0) - which I was expecting to be the chart - is a "spark.skin.spark.SkinnableContainerSkin"...anyway, I can continue to traverse the tree using this somewhat annoying code, but I'm hoping there is an easier way. So in short, at run time I want to, with as little code as possible, identify the column chart in the active tab so I can redraw it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Mount TMPFS instead of ro /dev

    - by schiggn
    I am working on a ARM-Based embedded system with a custom Debian Linux based on kernel 2.6.31. In the final system, the Root file system is stored as squashfs on flash. Now, the folder /dev is created by udev, but since there is no hot plugging functionality needed and booting time is critical, I wanted to delete udev and "hard code" the /dev folder (read here, page 5). because i still need to change parameters of the devices (with ioctl /sysfs) this does not work for me in this case. so i thought of mounting a tmpfs on /dev and change the parameters there. is this possible? and how to do best? my approach would be: delete /dev from RFS create tar containing basic devices mount tmpfs /dev untar tar-file into /dev change parameters Could this work? Do you see any problems? I found out, that you can mount on top of already mounted mount point, is it somehow possible just to take data with while mounting the new file system? if so that would be very convenient! Thanks Update: I just tried that out, but I'm stuck at a certain point. I packed all my devices into devices.tar, packed it into /usr of my squashfs and added the following lines to mountkernfs.sh, which is executed right after INIT. #mount /dev on tmpfs echo -n "Mounting /dev on tmpfs..." mount -o size=5M,mode=0755 -t tmpfs tmpfs /dev mknod -m 600 /dev/console c 5 1 mknod -m 600 /dev/null c 1 3 echo "done." echo -n "Populating /dev..." tar -xf /usr/devices.tar -C /dev echo "done." This works fine on the version over NFS, if I place printf's in the code, I can see it executing, if I comment out the extracting part, its complaining about missing devices. It's telling me while booting that it is unable to open an initial console and its throwing errors on mounting the UBIFS devices, but finally provides a login anyway. Over that my echo's are not executed. If I then log in, /dev is mounted as TMPFS as desired and all the devices reside inside. • Blackberry - application settings save/load

    - by Max Gontar
    Hi! I know two ways to save/load application settings: use PersistentStore use filesystem (store, since SDCard is optional) I'd like to know what are you're practicies of working with application settings? Using PersistentStore to save/load application settings The persistent store provides a means for objects to persist across device resets. A persistent object consists of a key-value pair. When a persistent object is committed to the persistent store, that object's value is stored in flash memory via a deep copy. The value can then be retrieved at a later point in time via the key. Example of helper class for storing and retrieving settings: class PSOptions { private PersistentObject mStore; private LongHashtableCollection mSettings; private long KEY_URL = 0; private long KEY_ENCRYPT = 1; private long KEY_REFRESH_PERIOD = 2; public PSOptions() { // "AppSettings" = 0x71f1f00b95850cfeL mStore = PersistentStore.getPersistentObject(0x71f1f00b95850cfeL); } public String getUrl() { Object result = get(KEY_URL); return (null != result) ? • How to use a nested form for multiple models in one form?

    - by Magicked
    I'm struggling to come up with the proper way to design a form that will allow me to input data for two different models. The form is for an 'Incident', which has the following relationships: belongs_to :customer belongs_to :user has_one :incident_status has_many :incident_notes accepts_nested_attributes_for :incident_notes, :allow_destroy => false So an incident is assigned to a 'Customer' and a 'User', and the user is able to add 'Notes' to the incident. I'm having trouble with the notes part of the form. Here how the form is being submitted: {"commit"=>"Create", "authenticity_token"=>"ECH5Ziv7JAuzs53kt5m/njT9w39UJhfJEs2x0Ms2NA0=", "customer_id"=>"4", "incident"=>{"title"=>"Something bad", "incident_status_id"=>"2", "user_id"=>"2", "other_id"=>"AAA01-042310-001", "incident_note"=>{"note"=>"This is a note"}}} It appears to be attempting to add the incident_note as a field under 'Incident', rather than creating a new entry in the incident_note table with an incident_id foreign key linking back to the incident. Here is the 'IncidentNote' model: belongs_to :incident belongs_to :user Here is the form for 'Incident': <% form_for([@customer,@incident]) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <p> <%= f.label :other_id, "ID" %><br /> <%= f.text_field :capc_id %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :title %><br /> <%= f.text_field :title %> </p> <p> <%= label_tag 'user', 'Assign to user?' %> <%= f.select :user_id, @users.collect {|u| [u.name, u.id]} %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :incident_status, 'Status?' %> <%= f.select :incident_status_id, @statuses.collect {|s| [s.name, s.id]} %> </p> <p> <% f.fields_for :incident_note do |inote_form| %> <%= inote_form.label :note, 'Add a Note' %> <%= inote_form.text_area :note, :cols => 40, :rows => 20 %> <% end %> </p> <p> <%= f.submit "Create" %> </p> <% end %> And finally, here are the incident_controller entries for New and Create. New: def new @customer = current_user.customer @incident = Incident.new @users = @customer.users @statuses = IncidentStatus.find(:all) @incident_note = IncidentNote.new respond_to do |format| format.html # new.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @incident } end end Create: def create @users = @customer.users @statuses = IncidentStatus.find(:all) @incident = Incident.new(params[:incident]) @incident.customer = @customer @incident_note = @incident.incident_note.build(params[:incident_note]) @incident_note.user = current_user respond_to do |format| if @incident.save flash[:notice] = 'Incident was successfully created.' format.html { redirect_to(@incident) } format.xml { render :xml => @incident, :status => :created, :location => @incident } else format.html { render :action => "new" } format.xml { render :xml => @incident.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end I'm not really sure where to look at this point. I'm sure it's just a limitation of my current Rails skill (I don't know much). So if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very appreciative. Please let me know if more information is needed! Thanks!

  • Actionscript 3: Monitoring the activity level for multiple Microphones doesn't seem to work.

    - by Dave
    For a project I want to show all available webcams and microphones, so that the user can easily select whichever webcam/microphone combination they prefer. I run into an issue with the microphones listing though. Each microphone is listed with an activity animation and it's name. I am able to list all Microphones just fine (using the Microphone.names Array), but it seems like I can only get the activity viewer to work for one microphone. The other microphones show up with '-1' activity, which (as far as I know) is Flex for 'present, but not in use'. When unplugging the microphone that does show activity, the next one (in my case, the mic-in line on my motherboard) shows up with '0' activity (it's not connected, so that makes sense). During my testing I have a total of 3 microphones available, the not-connected onboard mic-in port, and two connected microphones. For testing purposes I use a timer that traces the current microphone activity each 100ms and the graph is also shown. It does not seem to matter what default microphone I set via flash' settings panel. The code I've only attached the revelant code snippets below to make it easier for you to read through them. Please let me know if you prefer the entire code. Main application.mxml Note: cont is a VBox. i is defined before this code snippet. var mics:Array = Microphone.names; for(i=0; i < mics.length; i++){ var mic:settingsMicEntry = new assets.settingsMicEntry; mic.d = {name: mics[i], index: i}; cont.addChild(mic); } assets/settingsMicEntry.mxml timer is defined before this code snippet. the SoundTransform is added to silence local microphone playback. Excluding this code does not solve the problem, sadly (I've tried). display is an MXML Canvas object. mic = Microphone.getMicrophone(d.index); if(mic){ // Temporary: The Microphones' visualizer var bar:Box = new Box(); bar.y = 50; bar.height = 0; bar.width = 66; bar.setStyle("backgroundColor", 0x003300); display.addChild(bar); var tf:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform(0); mic.setLoopBack(true); mic.soundTransform = tf; timer = new Timer(100); timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, function(e:TimerEvent):void{ var h:int = Math.floor((display.height/100)*mic.activityLevel); bar.height = (h>-1) ? h : 0; bar.y = (h>-1) ? display.height-h : display.height; trace('TIMER: '+h+' from '+d.name); }); timer.start(); } I'm pulling my hear out here, so any help is much appreciated! Thanks, -Dave Ps.: Pardon the messiness of the code!

  • vertical navigation that shows hidden submenu on click using JQuery

    - by user346602
    Hi, I am trying to make a menu that works like the one on this flash site: http://elevensix.de/ When I click "portfolio", only then to the subnavigation links reveal themselves. Right now I have only managed to get a typical vertical "reveal subnavigation on hover menu" working. What is required is that once the appropriate menu item it cicked, its submenu shows. This submenu remains revealed as the submenu items are hovered over then selected. When the submenu item is selected, the content shows, and both the menu and submenu remain visible (the selected menu and submenu item are given a distinct colour to show the navigation path). Whew. Here is my html: <div id="nav"> <ul> <li><a href="#">about</a></li> <li><a href="#">testimonials</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">testimonial1</a></li> <li><a href="#">testimonial2</a></li> <li><a href="#">testimonial3</a></li> <li><a href="#">testimonial4</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">Services</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">services1</a></li> <li><a href="#">services2</a></li> <li><a href="#">services3</a></li> <li><a href="#">services4</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">Gallery</a></li> <li><a href="#">Contact</a></li> </ul> </div><!--end #nav--> and here is my css: #nav { width:160px; position: relative; top: 250px; left: 20px; } #nav ul { margin:0px; padding:0px; } #nav ul li { line-height:24px; list-style:none; } #nav a { text-decoration: none; color: #9d9fa2; } #nav ul li a:hover { position:relative; color: #00aeef; } #nav ul ul { display:none; position:absolute; left:160px; top:4px; } #nav ul li:hover ul { display:block; color: #00aeef; } #nav ul ul li { width:160px; float:left; display:inline; line-height:16px; } .selected { color: #00aeef !important; } Should I be giving the submenus a class so that I can hide then show them? And where would the class be applied? To the ul? could I use the same class for both submenus? Am I wrong in how I am applying the display:none values for this purpose? Many thanks to all the clever people on here.

  • mediaelement.js control sizes are wrong when clip nested in a hidden element

    - by Martin Francis
    It's a nasty one this. In an audio control placed within a container element whose display property is initially set to none, the audio clip does NOT correctly size the progress bar when it is initialised. This is clear when the container's display property is changed from 'none' to '' (which is equivalent to 'static'). But who would ever do that? I make extensive use of 'tabbed' display arrangements on community sites like this one: http://www.churchesInBracebridge.ca Owing to the page arrangement, the audio controls which you see under 'sermons' (which at the time of writing still using Flash rather than John's excellent library here) are initially rendered in a div that is hidden. Simplified Test case Rather than have anyone have to wade through all of that, here's a much simplified test case: http://jsfiddle.net/sJL6T/36 Here's the full page source for those who'd prefer to work with it that way. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/> <title>MediaElementPlayer.js</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="http://mediaelementjs.com/js/mejs-2.13.1/mediaelement-and-player.js"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://mediaelementjs.com/js/mejs-2.13.1/mediaelementplayer.css" /> <script type="text/javascript"> function toggle(id){ document.getElementById(id).style.display= (document.getElementById(id).style.display=='none' ? '' : 'none'); } </script> </head> <body> <h1>MediaElementPlayer.js</h1> <h2 onclick="return toggle('test1')">Initially Hidden (Click to toggle)</h2> <div id='test1' style='display:none'> <audio controls="controls"> <source src="http://mediaelementjs.com/media/AirReview-Landmarks-02-ChasingCorporate.mp3" type="audio/mp3" /> </audio> </div> <h2 onclick="return toggle('test2')">Initially Shown (Click to toggle)</h2> <div id='test2' style=''> <audio controls="controls"> <source src="http://mediaelementjs.com/media/AirReview-Landmarks-02-ChasingCorporate.mp3" type="audio/mp3" /> </audio> </div> <script> $('audio').mediaelementplayer(); </script> </body> </html> Possible Workarounds Now I know that Google maps has the same quirk and there are two possible ways I've used to deal with that: Use absolute positioning in a displayed div to place the element 10,000px to the left then bring it onto the stage when we want to see it Have the map pane displayed when loading then hide it as soon as it's loaded (ugly I know, but it usually works) However either approach would be a pain to do, as I have a lot of legacy code using the simpler div hiding method. I know that JQuery can get the dimensions of an element event if it is hidden - someone thoughtfully fiddled that and it does work: http://jsfiddle.net/sJL6T/9 Perhaps it may be possible to modify the actual library to find correct dimensions, even if the container itself is hidden? That would be wonderful, if it can be done! Initial experiments on mediaelement-and-player.js code I found that when I provided a fixed value in the setControlsSize function for railWidth, I got consistent results with both controls in the test case above (and obviously I'm working with my own copy of the library to do that, not the one stored at mediaelementjs.com): // outer area rail.width(railWidth); Change to this: // outer area railWidth=216; rail.width(railWidth); Many thanks in anticipation! • .NET Programmatically invoke screenclick doesn't work?

    - by ropstah
    I'm trying to programmatically invoke an onclick event however the click is not received/handled. Am I missing something, or is security preventing the click to be executed? I have a forms application which is invisible. Basically I would like to say: DoDoubleClick(wait, x, y) This should raise two click (mousedown+mouseup) events on screen with the specified wait interval. However the click isn't received in a Flash application in Firefox (which is running at that moment). Here's my code: Form: Public Class Form1 Private WithEvents gmh As GlobalMouseHook Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load gmh = New GlobalMouseHook() Me.Visible = false gmh.DoDoubleClick(50, 800, 600) End Sub Private Sub Form1_FormClosed(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosedEventArgs) Handles MyBase.FormClosed gmh.Dispose() End Sub Private Sub gmh_MouseDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles gmh.MouseDown End Sub Private Sub gmh_MouseMove(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles gmh.MouseMove End Sub Private Sub gmh_MouseUp(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles gmh.MouseUp End Sub End Class GlobalMouseHook class: Friend Class GlobalMouseHook Implements IDisposable Private hhk As IntPtr = IntPtr.Zero Private disposedValue As Boolean = False Public Event MouseDown As MouseEventHandler Public Event MouseUp As MouseEventHandler Public Event MouseMove As MouseEventHandler Public Sub New() Hook() End Sub Private Sub Hook() Dim hInstance As IntPtr = LoadLibrary("User32") hhk = SetWindowsHookEx(WH_MOUSE_LL, AddressOf Me.HookProc, hInstance, 0) End Sub Private Sub Unhook() UnhookWindowsHookEx(hhk) End Sub Public Sub DoDoubleClick(ByVal wait As Integer, ByVal x As Integer, ByVal y As Integer) RaiseEvent MouseDown(Me, New MouseEventArgs(MouseButtons.Left, 1, x, y, 0)) RaiseEvent MouseUp(Me, Nothing) System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(wait) RaiseEvent MouseDown(Me, New MouseEventArgs(MouseButtons.Left, 1, x, y, 0)) RaiseEvent MouseUp(Me, Nothing) End Sub Private Function HookProc(ByVal nCode As Integer, ByVal wParam As UInteger, ByRef lParam As MSLLHOOKSTRUCT) As Integer If nCode >= 0 Then Select Case wParam Case WM_LBUTTONDOWN RaiseEvent MouseDown(Me, New MouseEventArgs(MouseButtons.Left, 0, lParam.pt.x, lParam.pt.y, 0)) Case WM_RBUTTONDOWN RaiseEvent MouseDown(Me, New MouseEventArgs(MouseButtons.Right, 0, lParam.pt.x, lParam.pt.y, 0)) Case WM_MBUTTONDOWN RaiseEvent MouseDown(Me, New MouseEventArgs(MouseButtons.Middle, 0, lParam.pt.x, lParam.pt.y, 0)) Case WM_LBUTTONUP, WM_RBUTTONUP, WM_MBUTTONUP RaiseEvent MouseUp(Nothing, Nothing) Case WM_MOUSEMOVE RaiseEvent MouseMove(Nothing, Nothing) Case WM_MOUSEWHEEL, WM_MOUSEHWHEEL Case Else Console.WriteLine(wParam) End Select End If Return CallNextHookEx(hhk, nCode, wParam, lParam) End Function Private Structure API_POINT Public x As Integer Public y As Integer End Structure Private Structure MSLLHOOKSTRUCT Public pt As API_POINT Public mouseData As UInteger Public flags As UInteger Public time As UInteger Public dwExtraInfo As IntPtr End Structure Private Const WM_MOUSEWHEEL As UInteger = &H20A Private Const WM_MOUSEHWHEEL As UInteger = &H20E Private Const WM_MOUSEMOVE As UInteger = &H200 Private Const WM_LBUTTONDOWN As UInteger = &H201 Private Const WM_LBUTTONUP As UInteger = &H202 Private Const WM_MBUTTONDOWN As UInteger = &H207 Private Const WM_MBUTTONUP As UInteger = &H208 Private Const WM_RBUTTONDOWN As UInteger = &H204 Private Const WM_RBUTTONUP As UInteger = &H205 Private Const WH_MOUSE_LL As Integer = 14 Private Delegate Function LowLevelMouseHookProc(ByVal nCode As Integer, ByVal wParam As UInteger, ByRef lParam As MSLLHOOKSTRUCT) As Integer Private Declare Auto Function LoadLibrary Lib "kernel32" (ByVal lpFileName As String) As IntPtr Private Declare Auto Function SetWindowsHookEx Lib "user32.dll" (ByVal idHook As Integer, ByVal lpfn As LowLevelMouseHookProc, ByVal hInstance As IntPtr, ByVal dwThreadId As UInteger) As IntPtr Private Declare Function CallNextHookEx Lib "user32" (ByVal hhk As IntPtr, ByVal nCode As Integer, ByVal wParam As UInteger, ByRef lParam As MSLLHOOKSTRUCT) As Integer Private Declare Function UnhookWindowsHookEx Lib "user32" (ByVal hhk As IntPtr) As Boolean ' IDisposable Protected Overridable Sub Dispose(ByVal disposing As Boolean) If Not Me.disposedValue Then If disposing Then ' TODO: free other state (managed objects). • How do I use accepts_nested_attributes_for?

    - by Angela
    Editing my question for conciseness and to update what I've done: How do I model having multiple Addresses for a Company and assign a single Address to a Contact, and be able to assign them when creating or editing a Contact? I want to use nested attributes to be able to add an address at the time of creating a new contact. That address exists as its own model because I may want the option to drop-down from existing addresses rather than entering from scratch. I can't seem to get it to work. I get a undefined method `build' for nil:NilClass error Here is my model for Contacts: class Contact < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :first_name, :last_name, :title, :phone, :fax, :email, :company, :date_entered, :campaign_id, :company_name, :address_id, :address_attributes belongs_to :company belongs_to :address accepts_nested_attributes_for :address end Here is my model for Address: class Address < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :street1, :street2, :city, :state, :zip has_many :contacts end I would like, when creating an new contact, access all the Addresses that belong to the other Contacts that belong to the Company. So here is how I represent Company: class Company < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name, :phone, :addresses has_many :contacts has_many :addresses, :through => :contacts end Here is how I am trying to create a field in the View for _form for Contact so that, when someone creates a new Contact, they pass the address to the Address model and associate that address to the Contact: <% f.fields_for :address, @contact.address do |builder| %> <p> <%= builder.label :street1, "Street 1" %> </br> <%= builder.text_field :street1 %> <p> <% end %> When I try to Edit, the field for Street 1 is blank. And I don't know how to display the value from show.html.erb. At the bottom is my error console -- can't seem to create values in the address table: My Contacts controller is as follows: def new @contact = Contact.new @contact.address.build # Iundefined method `build' for nil:NilClass @contact.date_entered = Date.today @campaigns = Campaign.find(:all, :order => "name") if params[:campaign_id].blank? else @campaign = Campaign.find(params[:campaign_id]) @contact.campaign_id = @campaign.id end if params[:company_id].blank? else @company = Company.find(params[:company_id]) @contact.company_name = @company.name end end def create @contact = Contact.new(params[:contact]) if @contact.save flash[:notice] = "Successfully created contact." redirect_to @contact else render :action => 'new' end end def edit @contact = Contact.find(params[:id]) @campaigns = Campaign.find(:all, :order => "name") end Here is a snippet of my error console: I am POSTING the attribute, but it is not CREATING in the Address table.... • jQuery gallery scrolling effect with ease

    - by Sebastian Otarola
    So, I got this page from a friend and I think the gallery is amazingly done. Too bad it's in Flash ; http://selected.com/en/#/collection/homme/ Now, I'm trying to replicate the effect with jQuery. I've made all the loco searches on google one could think of. Zooming the picture is not a problem, the problem lies within the scrolling, how they come together at the ease part. I'm looking for solution in how to make the thumbnail animate when you scroll the page, they drag behind and infront of each other in a very subtle way - I've got (With a lot of help from Whirl3d in the jQuery-irc channel) this for the scrollup/down part of the mouse but the scrolling goes haywire; I Thought I post it here where I've come many times to get answers to a lot of questions and code-errors. This is my first post in stackoverflow and I know you guys are geniuses! Give it a shot! Thanks in advance! jQuery Part $(document).ready(function() { var fronts=$(".front"); var backs=$(".back"); var tempScrollTop, currentScrollTop = 0; $(document).scroll(function () { currentScrollTop = $(document).scrollTop(); if (tempScrollTop < currentScrollTop) { //Scroll down fronts.animate({marginTop:"-=100"},{duration:500, queue:false, easing:"easeOutBack"}); backs.animate({marginTop:"-=100"}, {duration:300, queue:false, easing:"easeOutBack"}); console.log('scroll down'); } else if (tempScrollTop > currentScrollTop) { //scroll up fronts.animate({marginTop:"+=100"},{duration:500, queue:false, easing:"easeOutBack"}); backs.animate({marginTop:"+=100"}, {duration:300, queue:false, easing:"easeOutBack"}); console.log('scroll up'); } tempScrollTop = currentScrollTop ;}) ;}); The HTML <html> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.7.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.paigeharvey.net/assets/js/jquery.easing.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="gallery.js"></script> <title>Parallax testing image gallery</title> </head> <body> <div class="container"> <div class='box front'>First Group</div> <div class='box back'>First Group</div> <div class='box front'>First Group</div> <div class='box back'>First Group</div> <br style="clear:both"/> <div class='box front'>Second Group</div> <div class='box back'>Second Group</div> <div class='box front'>Second Group</div> <div class='box back'>Second Group</div> <br style="clear:both"/> <div class='box front'>Third Group</div> <div class='box back'>Third Group</div> <div class='box front'>Third Group</div> <br style="clear:both"/> </div> </body> And finally the CSS Part .container {margin: auto; width: 410px; border: 1px solid red;} .box.front{border: 1px solid red;background-color:Black;color:white;z-Index:500;} .box.back {border: 1px solid green;z-Index:300;background-color:white;} .box {float:left; text-align:center; width:100px; height:100px;}

  • Create / build / generate a web form that can be on my server and has modern looks and could be impl

    - by Luay
    I have a small web site and would like to add a 'contact us' form and a 'feedback' form. i would like the forms to satisfy the following: 1- be modern looking (with beautiful css effects) 2- the form fields are validated properly and 'inline'. What I mean is once a user skips a required field or enters an email address incorrectly some kind of tooltip or icon is displayed to ask him to cerrect the error (as opposed to a message box that appears after the user clicks 'submit') 3- once the submit button is clicked the form contents are emailed to me. 4- the whole thing can be setup by a noob like myself. 5- no ads on the form I have been searching for at least 5 days for a solution but I can't seem to find anything the would satisfy the above 5 conditions. I don't mind paying for a solution as long as it is hosted on my site and it is a one off payment and not a monthly payment. So far my search has lead me to the following: 1 wufoo. The good: the generated forms seem to look okay but not the best there is. The bad: the free service is limited to 100 submissions. ads on the form. it is not hosted on my server. Paid service requires monthly payments 2- emailmeform: almost same as above except the generated form looks old. They do have an offer where you pay only $4 to get the form and set it up on your own site but that doesn't solve the fact that the forms look old. 3- formAssembly: same as above with minor variations (the generated form looks better) 4- formchamp, formthis, kontaktr,... And other similar online services: the same problem. either the form generated looks outdated or require monthly payments or they put ads...they don't satisfy my conditions. 5- coffeecup form builder. a desktop software. The problem is the generated forms look too old and use flash. 6- simfatic. Another software. Much better than coffeecup. almost satisfies my conditions but the forms not as good as I like. 7- many, many php scripts or html templates that look so outdated or fail when tested (probably because they are too old). Seriously guys, how hard is this. At least 90%+ of website contain at least a 'contact us' form. Why aren't there better solutions? if there is I can't seem to find them. In terms of looks I want something similar to this: http://web-kreation.com/articles/lightform-free-ajaxphp-contact-form/ It is called lightform. And this is a perfect example of what I mean by 'inline' validation. the only problem: there is no script to handle sending the mail. Even if I find one, I don't know how to modify it for my needs. So could you please help me out. I really can't search anymore. I reached rock bottom with this issue. I need a complete solution. If nothing exists then at least a: 1- form template (html) that looks nice and can easily be modified 2- a validation script that does 'inline' validation like the example above (or similar to it) and can be easily implemented by a noob like me to work with the html form. 3- a php script that will handle sending the email and can be easily implemented (all three working in harmony). I hope there is a complete solution but am I asking for too much? Pretty please...help...

  • What does a WinForm application need to be designed for usability, and be robust, clean, and profess

    - by msorens
    One of the principal problems impeding productivity in software implementation is the classic conundrum of “reinventing the wheel”. Of late I am a .NET developer and even the wonderful wizardry of .NET and Visual Studio covers only a portion of this challenging issue. Below I present my initial thoughts both on what is available and what should be available from .NET on a WinForm, focusing on good usability. That is, aspects of an application exposed to the user and making the user experience easier and/or better. (I do include a couple items not visible to the user because I feel strongly about them, such as diagnostics.) I invite you to contribute to these lists. LIST A: Components provided by .NET These are substantially complete components provided by .NET, i.e. those requiring at most trivial coding to use. “About” dialog -- add it with a couple clicks then customize. Persist settings across invocations -- .NET has the support; just use a few lines of code to glue them together. Migrate settings with a new version -- a powerful one, available with one line of code. Tooltips (and infotips) -- .NET includes just plain text tooltips; third-party libraries provide richer ones. Diagnostic support -- TraceSources, TraceListeners, and more are built-in. Internationalization -- support for tailoring your app to languages other than your own. LIST B: Components not provided by .NET These are not supplied at all by .NET or supplied only as rudimentary elements requiring substantial work to be realized. Splash screen -- a small window present during program startup with your logo, loading messages, etc. Tip of the day -- a mini-tutorial presented one bit at a time each time the user starts your app. Check for available updates -- facility to query a server to see if the user is running the latest version of your app, then provide a simple way to upgrade if a new version is found. Maximize to multiple monitors -- the canonical window allows you to maximize to a single monitor only; in my apps I allow maximizing across multiple monitors with a click. Taskbar notifier -- flash the taskbar when your backgrounded app has new info for the user. Options dialogs -- multi-page dialogs letting the user customize the app settings to his/her own preferences. Progress indicator -- for long running operations give the user feedback on how far there is left to go. Memory gauge -- an indicator (either absolute or percentage) of how much memory is used by your app. LIST C: Stylistic and/or tiny bits of functionality This list includes bits of functionality that are too tiny to merit being called a component, along with stylistic concerns (that admittedly do overlap with the Windows User Experience Interaction Guidelines). Design a form for resizing -- unless you are restricting your form to be a fixed size, use anchors and docking so that it does what is reasonable when enlarged or shrunk by the user. Set tab order on a form -- repeated tab presses by the user should advance from field to field in a logical order rather than the default order in which you added fields. Adjust controls to be aware of operating modes -- When starting a background operation with, for example, a “Go” button, disable that “Go” button until the operation completes. Provide access keys for all menu items (per UXGuide). Provide shortcut keys for commonly used menu items (per UXGuide). Set up some (global or important or common) shortcut keys without associating to menu items. Allow some menu items to be invoked with or without modifier keys (shift, control, alt) where the modifier key is useful to vary the operation slightly. Hook up Escape and Enter on child forms to do what is reasonable. Decorate any library classes with documentation-comments and attributes -- this allows Visual Studio to leverage them for Intellisense and property descriptions. Spell check your code! What else would you include?

  • Faulty to use memcache together with a php web-browser-game in this way?

    - by Crowye
    Background We are currently working on a strategy web-browser game based on php, html and javascript. The plan is to have 10,000+ users playing within the same world. Currently we are using memcached to: store json static data, language files store changeable serialized php class objects (such as armies, inventorys, unit-containers, buildings, etc) In the back we have a mysql server running and holding all the game data aswell. When a object is loaded through our ObjectLoader it loads in this order: checks a static hashmap in the script for the object checks memcache if it has already been loaded into it otherwise loads from database, and saves it into memcache and the static temp hashmap We have built the whole game using a class-object-oriented approach where functionality is always made between objects. Beause of this we think we have managed to get a nice structure, and with the help of memcached we have received good request times from client-server when interacting with the game. I'm aware that memcache is not synchronized, and also is not commonly used for holding a full game in memory. In the beginning after a server's startup the load times when loading objects into memcache for the first time will be high, but after the server's been online for a while and most loads are from memcache, the loads will be well reduced. Currently we are saving changed objects into memcache and database at the same time. Earlier we had an idea to save objects into db only after a certain time or at intervals, but due to risk inconsistency if the memcache/server went down, we skipped it for now. Client requests to server often return object's status simple json-format without changing the object, which in turn is represented in the browser visually with images and javascript. But from time to time depending on when an object was last updated, it updates them with new information (e.g. a build-queue holding planned buildings time-progress is increased, and/or planned-queue-items-array has changed). Questions: Do you see how this could work or are we walking in blindness here? Do you expect us to have a lot of inconsistency issues if someone loads and updates the a memcache objects while someone else does the same? Is it even doable to do it in the way he have done it? Seems to be working fine atm, but so far we have only been 4 people online at the same time.. Is some other cache program more fit for this class-object approach than memcached? Is there any other tips you have for this situation? UPDATE Since it is simply a "normal webpage" (no applet, flash, etc), we are implementing the game so that the server is the only one holding a "real game-state".. the state of the different javascript-objects on the client is more like a approximative version of the server's game state. From time to time and before you do certain things important things, the client's visual state is updated to the server's state (e.g. the client things he can afford a barracks, asks the server to build a barracks, server updates current resources according to income-data on server and then tries to build a barracks or casts an error-message, and then sends the current server-state on resources, buildings back to the client).. It is not a fast-paced game lika real strategy game. More like a quite slow 3-4 months playtime game, where buildings can take +1 minute up to several days to complete.

  • How can I determine/use $(this) in js callback script

    - by Rabbott
    I am using Rails and jQuery, making an ajax call initiated by clicking a link. I setup my application.js file to look like the one proposed here and it works great. The problem I'm having is how can I use $(this) in my say.. update.js.erb file to represent the link I clicked? I don't want to have to assign an ID to every one, then recompile that id in the callback script.. EDIT To give a simple example of something similar to what I'm trying to do (and much easier to explain): If a user clicks on a link, that deletes that element from a list, the controller would handle the callback, and the callback (which is in question here) would delete the element I clicked on, so in the callback delete.js.erb would just say $(this).fadeOut(); This is why I want to use $(this) so that I dont have to assign an ID to every element (which would be the end of the world, just more verbose markup) application.js jQuery.ajaxSetup({ 'beforeSend': function(xhr) {xhr.setRequestHeader("Accept", "text/javascript,application/javascript,text/html")} }) function _ajax_request(url, data, callback, type, method) { if (jQuery.isFunction(data)) { callback = data; data = {}; } return jQuery.ajax({ type: method, url: url, data: data, success: callback, dataType: type }); } jQuery.extend({ put: function(url, data, callback, type) { return _ajax_request(url, data, callback, type, 'PUT'); }, delete_: function(url, data, callback, type) { return _ajax_request(url, data, callback, type, 'DELETE'); } }); jQuery.fn.submitWithAjax = function() { this.unbind('submit', false); this.submit(function() { $.post(this.action, $(this).serialize(), null, "script"); return false; }) return this; }; // Send data via get if <acronym title="JavaScript">JS</acronym> enabled jQuery.fn.getWithAjax = function() { this.unbind('click', false); this.click(function() { $.get($(this).attr("href"), $(this).serialize(), null, "script"); return false; }) return this; }; // Send data via Post if <acronym title="JavaScript">JS</acronym> enabled jQuery.fn.postWithAjax = function() { this.unbind('click', false); this.click(function() { $.post($(this).attr("href"), $(this).serialize(), null, "script"); return false; }) return this; }; jQuery.fn.putWithAjax = function() { this.unbind('click', false); this.click(function() { $.put($(this).attr("href"), $(this).serialize(), null, "script"); return false; }) return this; }; jQuery.fn.deleteWithAjax = function() { this.removeAttr('onclick'); this.unbind('click', false); this.click(function() { $.delete_($(this).attr("href"), $(this).serialize(), null, "script"); return false; }) return this; }; // This will "ajaxify" the links function ajaxLinks(){ $('.ajaxForm').submitWithAjax(); $('a.get').getWithAjax(); $('a.post').postWithAjax(); $('a.put').putWithAjax(); $('a.delete').deleteWithAjax(); } show.html.erb <%= link_to 'Link Title', article_path(a, :sentiment => Article::Sentiment['Neutral']), :class => 'put' %> The combination of the two things will call update.js.erb in rails, the code in that file is used as the callback of the ajax ($.put in this case) update.js.erb // user feedback $("#notice").html('<%= flash[:notice] %>'); // update the background color $(this OR e.target).attr("color", "red");

  • Updating nested attributes causes duplicate entries

    - by params_noob
    I have a has_many and belongs_to relationship between Job and Address. When I try to update Job and Address in the same form, it updates job but creates a duplicate entry for Address. Am I missing something here? The Edit and Update Actions from Jobs: def edit @job = Job.find(params[:id]) end def update @job = Job.find(params[:id]) if @job.update_attributes(job_params) flash[:success] = "Job Updated" redirect_to current_user else render 'edit' end end The edit form: <h1>Edit Job Information</h1> <div class="row"> <div class="span6 offset3"> <%= form_for(@job) do |f| %> <%= render 'shared/error_messages' %> <%= f.label :recipient %> <%= f.text_field :recipient %> <%= f.label :age %> <%= f.text_field :age %> <%= f.label :gender %> <%= f.text_field :gender %> <%= f.label :ethnicity %> <%= f.text_field :ethnicity %> <%= f.label :height %> <%= f.text_field :height %> <%= f.label :weight %> <%= f.text_field :weight %> <%= f.label :hair %> <%= f.text_field :hair %> <%= f.label :eyes %> <%= f.text_field :eyes %> <%= f.label :other_info %> <%= f.text_field :other_info %> <h3> Address Information </h3> <%= f.fields_for :addresses do |address| %> <%= address.label :label, "Label" %> <%= address.text_field :label %> <%= address.label :addy, "Address" %> <%= address.text_field :addy %> <%= address.label :apt, "Apt/Suite/etc" %> <%= address.text_field :apt %> <%= address.label :city, "City" %> <%= address.text_field :city %> <%= address.label :state, "State" %> <%= address.text_field :state %> <%= address.label :zip, "Zip code" %> <%= address.text_field :zip %> <% end %> <%= f.label :instructions, "Service Instructions" %> <%= f.text_field :instructions %> <%= check_box_tag(:rush) %> <%= label_tag(:rush, "Rush?") %> <%= f.submit "Update Job", class: "btn btn-large btn-primary" %> <% end %> </div> </div>

  • Adding Another Parameter to my Custom jQuery Gallery

    - by steve
    My website currently uses a custom jQuery gallery system that I've developed... it works well, but I want to add one capability that I can't seem to figure out. I want the user to, instead of having to click each thumbnail, also be able to click the full image itself to advance in the gallery. Working gallery is here: http://www.studioimbrue.com The code is as follows: $('.thumbscontainer ul li a').click(function() { var li_index = $(this).parents('ul').children('li').index($(this).parent("li"));    $(this).parents('.thumbscontainer').parent().find('.captions ul li').fadeOut(); $(this).parents('.thumbscontainer').parent().find('.captions ul li:eq('+li_index+')').fadeIn(); }); }); and the gallery HTML markup is as follows: <div class="container"> <div class="captions" id="usbdrive"> <ul> <li style="display:block"> <img src="images/portfolio/usbdrive/1.jpg" /> <div class="caption"> <span class='projecttitle'>Super Talent USB Drive Package.</span> A fancy, lavish package designed for Super Talent's specialty USB drive. • ActionScript 3 Cant see Movieclip

    - by user3697993
    When I play my game it does not show my _Player Movieclip, but it does collide with the ground which is very confusing. So I believe the movieclip is there but not showing the texture/Sprite. I think the problem is in "function Spawn" (First Function). public class PewdyBird extends MovieClip { //Player variables public var Up_Speed:int = 25; public var speed:Number = 0; public var _grav:Number = 0.5; public var isJump:Boolean = false; public var Score:int = 0; public var Player_Live:Boolean = true; public var _Player:Player = new Player(); //Other variables //Environment variables var Floor:int = 480; var Clock:Number = 0; var Clock_restart:Number = 0; var Clock_ON:Boolean = false; var Clock_max:int = 15; var Player_Stage:Boolean = true; private var _X:int; private var _Y:int; private var hit_ground:Boolean = false; private var width_BG:int = 479; //SPAWN function Spawn(e:Event){ _Player.x = 200; _Player.y = 200; stage.addChild(_Player); } //Keyboard Input private function KeyboardListener(e:KeyboardEvent){ if(e.keyCode == Keyboard.SPACE){ Clock = Clock_restart; Clock_ON = true; isJump = true; if(isJump){ _Player.gotoAndPlay("Fly"); speed = -Up_Speed; isJump = false; } } } //Mouse Input & Spawn Listener private function MouseListener(m:MouseEvent){ if(MouseEvent.CLICK){ Clock = Clock_restart; Clock_ON = true; isJump = true; if(isJump){ _Player.gotoAndPlay("Fly"); speed = -Up_Speed; isJump = false; } } } //Rotation Fly function Rot_Fly(){ if(Clock < Clock_max){ _Player.rotation = -15; }else if(Clock >= Clock_max){ if(_Player.rotation < 90){ _Player.rotation += 10; }else if(_Player.rotation >= 90){ _Player.rotation = 90; } } } //END //Update Function function enter_frame(e:Event):void{ Rot_Fly(); //Clock if(Clock_ON){ Clock++; }else if(Clock > Clock_max){ Clock = Clock_max; } //Fall Limits if(speed >= 20){ _Player.y += 20; return; _Player.gotoAndPlay("Fall"); } //Physics speed += _grav*3; _Player.y += speed; } //Hit Ground function Hit_Ground(e:Event){ if(_Player.hitTestObject(Ground1)){ _grav = 0; speed = 0; trace("HIT GROUND"); }else if(_Player.hitTestObject(Ground2)){ _grav = 0; speed = 0; trace("HIT GROUND"); }else if(_Player.hitTestObject(Ground1) == false){ _grav = 1; }else if(_Player.hitTestObject(Ground2) == false){ _grav = 1; } } //Background Slide (Left) private function Background_Move(e:Event):void{ Background1.x -= 1.5; Background2.x -= 1.5; Ground1.x -= 4; Ground2.x -= 4; if(Background1.x < -width_BG){ Background1.x = width_BG; } else if(Background2.x < -width_BG){ Background2.x = width_BG; } else if(Ground1.x < -width_BG){ Ground1.x = width_BG; } else if(Ground2.x < -width_BG){ Ground2.x = width_BG; } } } The eventListeners are in flash it self stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, enter_frame); stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, Hit_Ground); stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, KeyboardListener); stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, MouseListener); stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, Background_Move); stage.addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, Spawn);

  • How to Upgrade Your Netbook to Windows 7 Home Premium

    - by Matthew Guay
    Would you like more features and flash in Windows on your netbook?  Here’s how you can easily upgrade your netbook to Windows 7 Home Premium the easy way. Most new netbooks today ship with Windows 7 Starter, which is the cheapest edition of Windows 7.  It is fine for many computing tasks, and will run all your favorite programs great, but it lacks many customization, multimedia, and business features found in higher editions.  Here we’ll show you how you can quickly upgrade your netbook to more full-featured edition of Windows 7 using Windows Anytime Upgrade.  Also, if you want to upgrade your laptop or desktop to another edition of Windows 7, say Professional, you can follow these same steps to upgrade it, too. Please note: This is only for computers already running Windows 7.  If your netbook is running XP or Vista, you will have to run a traditional upgrade to install Windows 7. Upgrade Advisor First, let’s make sure your netbook can support the extra features, such as Aero Glass, in Windows 7 Home Premium.  Most modern netbooks that ship with Windows 7 Starter can run the advanced features in Windows 7 Home Premium, but let’s check just in case.  Download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor (link below), and install as normal. Once it’s installed, run it and click Start Check.   Make sure you’re connected to the internet before you run the check, or otherwise you may see this error message.  If you see it, click Ok and then connect to the internet and start the check again. It will now scan all of your programs and hardware to make sure they’re compatible with Windows 7.  Since you’re already running Windows 7 Starter, it will also tell you if your computer will support the features in other editions of Windows 7. After a few moments, the Upgrade Advisor will show you want it found.  Here we see that our netbook, a Samsung N150, can be upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate. We also see that we had one issue, but this was because a driver we had installed was not recognized.  Click “See all system requirements” to see what your netbook can do with the new edition. This shows you which of the requirements, including support for Windows Aero, your netbook meets.  Here our netbook supports Aero, so we’re ready to go upgrade. For more, check out our article on how to make sure your computer can run Windows 7 with Upgrade Advisor. Upgrade with Anytime Upgrade Now, we’re ready to upgrade our netbook to Windows 7 Home Premium.  Enter “Anytime Upgrade” in the Start menu search,and select Windows Anytime Upgrade. Windows Anytime Upgrade lets you upgrade using product key you already have or one you purchase during the upgrade process.  And, it installs without any downloads or Windows disks, so it works great even for netbooks without DVD drives. Anytime Upgrades are cheaper than a standard upgrade, and for a limited time, select retailers in the US are offering Anytime Upgrades to Windows 7 Home Premium for only $49.99 if purchased with a new netbook.  If you already have a netbook running Windows 7 Starter, you can either purchase an Anytime Upgrade package at a retail store or purchase a key online during the upgrade process for $79.95.  Or, if you have a standard Windows 7 product key (full or upgrade), you can use it in Anytime upgrade.  This is especially nice if you can purchase Windows 7 cheaper through your school, university, or office. Purchase an upgrade online To purchase an upgrade online, click “Go online to choose the edition of Windows 7 that’s best for you”.   Here you can see a comparison of the features of each edition of Windows 7.  Note that you can upgrade to either Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate.  We chose home Premium because it has most of the features that home users want, including Media Center and Aero Glass effects.  Also note that the price of each upgrade is cheaper than the respective upgrade from Windows XP or Vista.  Click buy under the edition you want.   Enter your billing information, then your payment information.  Once you confirm your purchase, you will directly be taken to the Upgrade screen.  Make sure to save your receipt, as you will need the product key if you ever need to reinstall Windows on your computer. Upgrade with an existing product key If you purchased an Anytime Upgrade kit from a retailer, or already have a Full or Upgrade key for another edition of Windows 7, choose “Enter an upgrade key”. Enter your product key, and click Next.  If you purchased an Anytime Upgrade kit, the product key will be located on the inside of the case on a yellow sticker. The key will be verified as a valid key, and Anytime Upgrade will automatically choose the correct edition of Windows 7 based on your product key.  Click Next when this is finished. Continuing the Upgrade process Whether you entered a key or purchased a key online, the process is the same from here on.  Click “I accept” to accept the license agreement. Now, you’re ready to install your upgrade.  Make sure to save all open files and close any programs, and then click Upgrade. The upgrade only takes about 10 minutes in our experience but your mileage may vary.  Any available Microsoft updates, including ones for Office, Security Essentials, and other products, will be installed before the upgrade takes place. After a couple minutes, your computer will automatically reboot and finish the installation.  It will then reboot once more, and your computer will be ready to use!  Welcome to your new edition of Windows 7! Here’s a before and after shot of our desktop.  When you do an Anytime Upgrade, all of your programs, files, and settings will be just as they were before you upgraded.  The only change we noticed was that our pinned taskbar icons were slightly rearranged to the default order of Internet Explorer, Explorer, and Media Player.  Here’s a shot of our desktop before the upgrade.  Notice that all of our pinned programs and desktop icons are still there, as well as our taskbar customization (we are using small icons on the taskbar instead of the default large icons). Before, with the Windows 7 Starter background and the Aero Basic theme: And after, with Aero Glass and the more colorful default Windows 7 background.   All of the features of Windows 7 Home Premium are now ready to use.  The Aero theme was activate by default, but you can now customize your netbook theme, background, and more with the Personalization pane.  To open it, right-click on your desktop and select Personalize. You can also now use Windows Media Center, and can play-back DVD movies using an external drive. One of our favorite tools, the Snipping Tool, is also now available for easy screenshots and clips. Activating you new edition of Windows 7 You will still need to activate your new edition of Windows 7.  To do this right away, open the start menu, right-click on Computer, and select Properties.   Scroll to the bottom, and click “Activate Windows Now”. Make sure you’re connected to the internet, and then select “Activate Windows online now”. Activation may take a few minutes, depending on your internet connection speed. When it is done, the Activation wizard will let you know that Windows is activated and genuine.  Your upgrade is all finished! • Issue 15: Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange @ Oracle OpenWorld

    - by rituchhibber
         ORACLE FOCUS Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange@ ORACLE OpenWorld Sylvie MichouSenior DirectorPartner Marketing & Communications and Strategic Programs RESOURCES -- Oracle OpenWorld 2012 Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange @ OpenWorld Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange @ OpenWorld Registration Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange SpecializationTest Fest Oracle OpenWorld Schedule Builder Oracle OpenWorld Promotional Toolkit for Partners Oracle Partner Events Oracle Partner Webcasts Oracle EMEA Partner News SUBSCRIBE FEEDBACK PREVIOUS ISSUES If you are attending our forthcoming Oracle OpenWorld 2012 conference in San Francisco from 30 September to 4 October, you will discover a new dedicated programme of keynotes and sessions tailored especially for you, our valued partners. Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange @ OpenWorld has been created to enhance the opportunities for you to learn from and network with Oracle executives and experts. The programme also provides more informal opportunities than ever throughout the week to meet up with the people who are most important to your business: customers, prospects, colleagues and the Oracle EMEA Alliances & Channels management team. Oracle remains fully focused on building the industry's most admired partner ecosystem—which today spans over 25,000 partners. This new OPN Exchange programme offers an exciting change of pace for partners throughout the conference. Now it will be possible to enjoy a fully-integrated, partner-dedicated session schedule throughout the week, as well as key social events such as the Sunday night Welcome Reception, networking lunches from Monday to Thursday at the Howard Street Tent, and a fantastic closing event on the last Thursday afternoon. In addition to the regular Oracle OpenWorld conference schedule, if you have registered for the Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange @ OpenWorld programme, you will be invited to attend a much anticipated global partner keynote presentation, plus more than 40 conference sessions aimed squarely at what's most important to you, as partners. Prominent topics for discussion will include: Oracle technologies and roadmaps and how they fit with partners' business plans; business development; regional distinctions in business practices; and much more. Each session will provide plenty of food for thought ahead of the numerous networking opportunities throughout the week, encouraging the knowledge exchange with Oracle executives, customers, prospects, and colleagues that will make this conference of even greater value for you. At Oracle we always work closely with our partners to deliver solution offerings that improve business value, simplify the IT experience and drive innovation and efficiencies for joint customers. The most important element of our new OPN Exchange is content that helps you get more from technology investments, more from your peer-to-peer connections, and more from your interactions with customers. To this end we've created some partner-specific tools which can be used by OPN members ahead of the conference itself. Crucially, a comprehensive Content Catalog already lists and organises details of every OPN Exchange session, speaker, exhibitor, demonstration and related materials. This Content Catalog can be used by all our partners to identify interesting content that you can add to your own personalised Oracle OpenWorld Schedule Builder, allowing more effective planning and pre-enrolment for vital sessions. There are numerous highlights that you will definitely want to include in those personal schedules. On Sunday morning, 30 September we will start the week with partner dedicated OPN Exchange sessions, following our Global Partner Keynote at 13:00 with Judson Althoff, SVP, Worldwide Alliances & Channels and Embedded Sales and senior executives, giving insight into Oracle's partner vision, strategy, and resources—all designed to help build and strengthen market opportunities for you. This will be followed by a number of OPN Exchange general sessions, the Oracle OpenWorld Opening Keynote with Larry Ellison, CEO, Oracle and concluded with the OPN Exchange AfterDark Welcome Reception, starting at 19:30 at the Metreon. From Monday 1 to Thursday 4 October, you can attend the OPN Exchange sessions that are most relevant to your business today and over the coming year. Oracle's top product and sales leaders will be on hand to discuss Oracle's strategic direction in 40+ targeted and in-depth sessions focussing on critical success factors to develop your business. Oracle's dedication to innovation, specialization, enablement and engineering provides Oracle partners with a huge opportunity to create new services and solutions, differentiate themselves and deliver extreme value to joint customers across the globe. Oracle will even be helping over 1000 partners to earn OPN Specialization certification during the Oracle OpenWorld OPN Exchange Test Fest, which will be providing all the study materials and exams required to drive Specialization for free at the conference. You simply need to check the list of current certification tracks available, and make sure you pre-register to reserve a seat in one of the ten sessions being offered free to OPN Exchange registered attendees. And finally, let's not forget those all-important networking opportunities, which can so often provide partners with valuable long-term alliances as well as exciting new business leads. The Oracle PartnerNetwork Lounge, located at Moscone South, exhibition hall, room 100 is the place where partners can meet formally or informally with colleagues, customers, prospects, and other industry professionals. OPN Specialized partners with OPN Exchange passes can also visit the OPN Video Blogging room to record and share ideas, and at the OPN Information Station you will find consultants available to answer your questions. "For the first time ever we will have a full partner conference within OpenWorld. OPN Exchange @ OpenWorld will kick-off on the first Sunday and run the entire week. We'll have over 40 sessions throughout that time and partners will hear from our top development executives, with special sessions dedicated to partnering throughout. It's going to be a phenomenal event, and we look forward to seeing our partners there."
