• Chipmunk warning still present with --release

  I'm using Python27 on Windows 7 64-bit. I downloaded the source for Chipmunk 6.2.x and compiled Pymunk with --release and -c ming32. Almost zero problems. Lots of path not found cause I'm bad. All prints seem to have disappeared but I get spammed with EPA iteration warnings. I've seen a couple discussions but no solutions. Possible chipmunk betas to fix the float errors causing the double truths causing the warning. I picked the latest stable version I think. My program is seriously bogged down with all the prints. class NullDevice(): def write(self, s): pass sys.stdout=NullDevice() Does not disable the C prints .< Any help?

  Looking for advice on the best technique for saving complex Python data structures across program sessions. Here's a list of techniques I've come up with so far: pickle/cpickle json jsonpickle xml database (like SQLite) Pickle is the easiest and fastest technique, but my understanding is that there is no guarantee that pickle output will work across various versions of Python 2.x/3.x or across 32 and 64 bit implementations of Python. Json only works for simple data structures. Jsonpickle seems to correct this AND seems to be written to work across different versions of Python. Serializing to XML or to a database is possible, but represents extra effort since we would have to do the serialization ourselves manually. Thank you, Malcolm

  I'm trying to figure out how to map against a simple read-only property and have that property fire when I save to the database. A contrived example should make this more clear. First, a simple table: meta = MetaData() foo_table = Table('foo', meta, Column('id', String(3), primary_key=True), Column('description', String(64), nullable=False), Column('calculated_value', Integer, nullable=False), ) What I want to do is set up a class with a read-only property that will insert into the calculated_value column for me when I call session.commit()... import datetime def Foo(object): def __init__(self, id, description): self.id = id self.description = description @property def calculated_value(self): self._calculated_value = datetime.datetime.now().second + 10 return self._calculated_value According to the sqlalchemy docs, I think I am supposed to map this like so: mapper(Foo, foo_table, properties = { 'calculated_value' : synonym('_calculated_value', map_column=True) }) The problem with this is that _calculated_value is None until you access the calculated_value property. It appears that SQLAlchemy is not calling the property on insertion into the database, so I'm getting a None value instead. What is the correct way to map this so that the result of the "calculated_value" property is inserted into the foo table's "calculated_value" column?

Type == Application; Browse [insert absolute path to .sh script]; no luck b. Type == Application in Terminal; Browse ...ditto I'm open to any other alternatives that involve as little typing as possible. I would like to just start Ubuntu, click Launcher icons, and have terminals spring to life, running the intended scripts. Crazy? No. Lazy? Probably. Productive? Hopefully :)

  Below is an example of a question given on my last test in a Computer Engineering course. Anyone mind explaining to me how to get the start/end addresses of each? I have listed the correct answers at the bottom... The MSP430F2410 device has an address space of 64 KB (the basic MSP430 architecture). Fill in the table below if we know the following. The first 16 bytes of the address space (starting at the address 0x0000) is reserved for special function registers (IE1, IE2, IFG1, IFG2, etc.), the next 240 bytes is reserved for 8-bit peripheral devices, and the next 256 bytes is reserved for 16-bit peripheral devices.   I am trying to use the new LiveConnect features introduced in Java 6 Update 10. Code looks like this (copied from the applet tutorial): Class<?> c = Class.forName("com.sun.java.browser.plugin2.DOM"); Method m = c.getMethod("getDocument", java.applet.Applet.class); Document document = (Document) m.invoke(null, this); But all I am getting is a ClassNotFoundException for the entry-point class. This on the Mac, 10.6, with both Firefox and Safari. Java Plug-in 1.6.0_22 Using JRE version 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM Is this not implemented on the Mac? Or do I need to configure something? All I need to do is get and set the value of form elements on the page, so I would be fine with an older (pre-6u10) API if that works better.

I would like to have a menu system that lets the tech select what version of the OS they would like to install and version (x86/x64). I know you can run the windows 2008 setup, and exit to command prompt, but I would like there to just be a menu that will kick off whichever script needed. What would be the best way to do this? • UPS vs Solar Power in case of power failure for a server [on hold]

  I am looking for a low power, low end pc able to run 24/7 without overheating and a way to support it in case of power failure. Power failures can be up to 72 hours. The pc dosen't need a monitor or keyboard. A modem must also be protected in case of power failure. When i say low end, i don't mean crap. The cpu needs to be x86 and have at least 1k cpu in this chart: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/index.php What's the best way to do this? EDIT: more info. I need to run a home server. The server will perform light tasks mainly. A x86 cpu sadly is the only route for my use. I want to be able to run the server and the router/modem in case of power failure. Now, regarding how long the power will fail: 1) 1 hours is OK for most situations. (say 90%) 2) 3 hours is OK (say 98%) 3) 6 hours is more thank OK. (say 99.5%) 4) On extreme cases the power might fail days. I believe this is very unlikely to happen. More is great but, really, how ofter power will fail more than 3 hours? I believe once every year at best. Well, that's too rare to care about. Given the above, I am looking for a cost effective way to archive 1-3 hour power or 6 hour if possible. Solutions: You guys give me great ideas. 1) Power generator: no good as power will fail for 10 seconds before returning. Also I read online, "clean" power generators cost 1.5k+, so it's out of budged. Non clean generator might damage electronics, right? 2) Solar power: i don't know for sure about this. Sounds like a great idea, too good to be true, honestly. For only 200$ i get 100+w? What are the drawbacks here? 3) UPS: This seems to be the best. The only problem is the cost. Cost < 200$ = great 400$ = budged limit

It has only one field, a TEdit edit box. • Why would an ASP.NET site become veeeeeery slow after the network connection dropped?

  I have an ASP.NET 3.5 site published in IIS 7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit. The pages are accessed over SSL One of our testers has determined that if, during a postback, he blocks network access on his PC, and then after a few seconds reconnects, our site becomes excruciatingly slow. Like 30 seconds per page load. If he hits the refresh button in his browser it stays slow. If he closes the tab, then re-opens it, it becomes fast again. This behavior happens with both IE 8 and the latest firefox. There are no event log entries on the server when this happens My question: - Has anyone seen this same behavior? - Does anyone have a theory as to what causes it?

  I have successfully installed a 64 bit Fedora 11 guest os using VirtualBox on a host machine (AMD64) running 32 bit Windows XP . At the moment the host machine has 2 Gb ram installed and I've allocated 1 Gb to the guest, which all works well. The host machine can hold a maximum of 4 Gb ram, so I was wondering if it's worth buying an extra 2 Gb for it. I know that 32 bit Windows XP can't use all of the 4 Gb, but can the guest os use any of the ram that the host os can't use?

• ShellExecute not working from IDE but works otherwise.

  I want to create and then open a txt file using the ShellExecute command. Delhi shows the CPU window with the caption "CPU-Process unknown (2352)". I close the CU windows and everything works fine until I close the application, when Delphi shows the CPU window one more time. If I run the app from outside IDE, it works fine. Looks like the debugger has something to say to me, but I don't know what.

  Hi all, I'm using the function preg_replace but I cannot figure out how to make it work, the function just doesn't seem to work for me. What I'm trying to do is to convert a string into a link if any word contains the % (percentage) character. For instance if I have the string "go to %mysite", I'd like to convert the mysite word into a link. I tried the following... $data = "go to %mysite"; $result = preg_replace('/(^|[\s\.\,\:\;]+)%([A-Za-z0-9]{1,64})/e', '\\1%<a href=#>\\2</a>', $data); ...but it doesn't work. • Mysqld Crashes immediately on running on Windows 7...?

  I am trying to run MySql 5.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have downloaded the MSI installer from the MYSql website and installed it. The installation is successful, but the service does not start. If I try to run MySql manually using the mysqld executable, it crashes immediately on running (error: mysqld.exe has stopped working). Earlier mysql was running on the machine, but I had some problem with it (wasn't executing big queries) and installed it again which somehow broke the program. I had installed it to work as a service which started giving me this isse, and now it won't work even if I don't install it as a service. I have tried removing the mysql folder and re-installing. Is there somewhere else where Mysql saves configuration info or other data? Has anyone else found this problem and solved it? How can I find out why the process is failing to run?

  Hello, I have installed SQL Server 2008 Developer on Windows 7 64 bit. In Management Studio I cannot register the default instance MSSQLSERVER, it cannot find it although the service is running. I get the message: Cannot connect to PHOENIX\MSSQLSERVER. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 87) However Management Studio does show the SQL Server 2005 Express instance (that was installed with VS 2008 Pro) which appeared as already registered. I an using Windows Authentication as I installed it in mixed mode. Any ideas would be appreciated, many thanks paul

• Debugging ASP.NET on a built-in web server suddenly stops

  I have Windows Server 2008 (64-bit), VS 2008 with its built-in webserver and an ASP.NET MVC 1.0 webapp. All I'm trying to do is to debug said app. I have a bunch of breakpoints, but they behave in a very strange way. When I fist start a debugging session with F5 and hit a breakpoint, the debugger stops just fine. However, after serveral F10s/F11s debugging suddenly "stops" (no exceptions at that time), but neither VS detaches from browsers' process, nor webapp execution stops: Visual Studio stays attached, and web request continues executing as usual. I tried various browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE), but to no avail. What do I do to solve this? It really drives me insane.

  I have a need to sync auto_increment fields between two tables in different databases on the same MySQL server. The hope was to create a stored procedure where the permissions of the admin would let the web user run ALTER TABLE [db1].[table] AUTO_INCREMENT = [num]; without giving it permissions (That just smells of SQL injection). My problem is I'm receiving errors when creating the store procedure. Is this something that is not allowed by MySQL? • Code Analysis Error: Declare types in namespaces

  Is VS2010, I analyzed my code and got this error: Warning 64 CA1050 : Microsoft.Design : 'ApplicationVariables' should be declared inside a namespace. C:\My\Code\BESI\BESI\App_Code\ApplicationVariables.vb 10 C:\...\BESI\ Here is some reference info on the error. Essentially, I tried to create a class to be used to access data in the Application object in a typed way. The warning message said unless I put my (ApplicationVariables) class in a Namespace, that I wouldn't be able to use it. But I am using it, so what gives? Also, here is a link to another StackOverflow article that talks about how to disable this warning in VS2008, but how would you disable it for 2010? There is no GlobalSuppressions.vb file for VS2010. • Setting up a non-emacs Common Lisp Dev Env for web application development?

  I am trying to set up a Common Lisp Dev Env for web application development on my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64-bit box and I can't find a single decent guide that is targeted at noobs. The closest I came is with Peter Seibel's Lisp in a box but I detest Emacs with a passion and it seems to have older versions of SBCL and CLISP (which are my preferred CL implementations). I do not want to use any of the commercial implementations. I am looking for a simple setup to write some very basic CRUD apps involving possibly hunchentoot, some framework like weblocks,CL-WHO, CL-SQl, sqlite or some datastores from the nosql family like mongo and couch.. Assuming, I go with either SBCL or CLISP on Linux, what is the best tool to manage packages and libraries? ASDF? I am looking for simplicity and consistency and I don't expect to use a ton of libs...

• Improving the efficiency of Kinect for Windows DTWGestureRecognition Application

  Currently I am using the DTWGestureRecognition open source tool for Kinect SDK v1.5. I have recorded a few gestures and use them to navigate through Windows 7. I also have implemented voice control for simple things such as opening PowerPoint, Chrome, etc. My main issue is that the application uses quite a bit of my CPU power which causes it to become slow. During gestures and voice commands, the CPU usage sometimes spikes to 80-90%, which causes the application to be unresponsive for a few seconds. I am running it on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine with an i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. I was wondering if anyone with any experience using this tool or Kinect in general has made it more efficient and less performance hogging. Right now I removed sections which display the RGB video and the Depth video but even doing that did not make a big impact. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
