  • Strange request - http://66.196.81.202/error/vote

    - by mplungjan
Hi a friend of mine is asking about the request which can for example be found here: http://www.geoidee.ch/geodata/geoserver-2.0.0/logs/2010_11_23.request.log His original message: On a couple of hundred web sites worldwide, one of the 50 most popular "File not found" error 404 is caused by the following request: "GET http://66.196.81.202/error/vote HTTP/1.0" It originates from a user agent that purports to be an iPhone. The two requests that hit my servers appeared to originate near Frankfort, Germany. The IP address in the request is part of Yahoo although I doubt that Yahoo had any intentional part. fe1.buzz.vip.re1.yahoo.com The HTTP request has a host header 66.196.81.202 and a X-Forwarded-For of 96.6.99.16 and my IP address I expected to be able to do a Google search and find some kind of security bulletin on it, but I found nothing. It could just be that my search skills are deficient. Thanks for any pointers to what this could be

  • Site to Site VPN with ISA 2006 to a Dyndns Hostname?

    - by Klaus
Hi all, i would like to create a site-to-site VPN between my ISA 2006 and a DLink router on the other side. My ISA got a fixed external IP Address, but the Dlink only has a dynamic one. So it makes use of DynDNS. Every "cheap router" supports making VPNs to a hostname. But in ISA 2006 I have to enter a IP Address in the VPN settings. Is there any way to create the VPN connection to a Hostname? Thank you for answers! Kind regards, Klaus

  • No Internet connectivity to linux container on Debian

    - by kirankumar
I have created a linux container with debian-wheezy template. I am not able to have internet connectivity from the container. Below is my network configuration. • On a router, how do I block wan access for a particular machine without blocking its access to the local network?

    - by HappyEngineer
On my tp-link TL-WR1043ND router I want to prevent a particular machine from having access to the WAN while still allowing that machine to access other machines on the LAN. My assumption is that I need to do something in the "Access Control" section, however the problem is that it wants an ip range or domain name for the target of the rule. The router uses DHCP to get an address from the WAN, so I don't have any guarantee what the ip address of the wan will be. If the answer is that it's not possible with this router, could someone describe how to do it using OpenWRT instead?

  • windows 7 issues with local domain name

    - by Phill
Until recently my operating system was XP where for the purpose of development and testing of php and zen cart I set up xampp that included apache http server and mercury mail server I also made changes to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts as follows: 127.0.0.1 www.zen.com # For browser access 127.0.0.1 mail.mercury.com # For email access 127.0.0.1 mercury.com # For mercury mail server This allowed the use of www.zen.com in the address bar of my browser rather than 'localhost' and mail.mercury.com to access email via thunderbird. All was well. Then I installed windows7, I made all the mods and again everything appeared to run as expected. Then I turned off my wireless modem causing all working local connections to fail. Localhost in the address bar still works but not www.zen.com and thunderbird 'cannot find mail.mercury.com' Is there some way to overcome what ever is causing this.

  • Setting up shared connection

    - by Calvin Froedge
I have a network that is connected to the internet via a switch connected to a router. I have it setup like this so I can work on the new network without causing problems on the old. Anyway, I'm trying to enable internet connection sharing. Internet comes to server like this: Modem - Router - Switch - Ubuntu 11.10 (Eth0) I want to share the connection through Eth1 (Eth1 - Managed Switch - Clients). Here is my config for /etc/network/interfaces: I have a DHCP server running on Eth1. Here is my config: ddns-update-style none; option domain-name "myserver.local"; option domain-name-servers 192.168.1.2, 8.8.8.8; default-lease-time 600; max-lease-time 7200; authoritative; subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { interface eth1; range 192.168.1.3 192.168.1.254; option routers 192.168.1.1; option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0; option broadcast-address 192.168.1.255; } Here is /etc/network/interfaces: # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp #Used for internal network auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 network 192.168.1.0 Here is /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 myserver.isp.com server 192.168.1.2 server.myserver.local server myserver.local In /etc/sysctl.conf, I've set the following: net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 Finally, in /etc/rc.local, I've set the following: /sbin/iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT /sbin/iptables --table nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE When I ping 8.8.8.8 (google's DNS) from a client that is authenticated with my DHCP server (they have been assigned a local ip, like 192.168.1.10), I get a timeout. How can I debug this further to figure out where my problem is?

  • Spam issues while using Postfix as a two-way relay

    - by BenGC
I want to use a Postfix box to do two things: Relay mail from any host on the internet addressed to one of my domains to my Zimbra server Relay mail from my Zimbra server to any address on the internet. To try and accomplish this I have configured Postfix thusly: mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, zimbra_ip/32 myorigin = zimbra_server mydestination = localhost, zimbra_server relay_domains = example.com example.org transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport_map local_transport = error:no mailboxes on this host transport_map looks like this: example.com smtp:[zimbra_server] example.org smtp:[zimbra_server] Now, this works and passes the Open Relay tests. However, I am seeing in the maillog that the server is relaying spam that has a From: address of <> to domains that are not mine. How do I stop this behavior?

  • How to add IP range to a server?

    - by Efe Cakinberk
Hello, First of all I must say that I'm ver inexperienced server and network user. But I rented a unmanaged dedicated server. Well I didn't know what unmanaged really means, then I learned it when I needed support. Well I must do everything by myself. I have a problem. I had already 4 IPs on my server when I rented it. But then I needed more Ips and my server assigned me 32 Ips in which I can only use 27 of them. 85.25.230.0 - 85.25.230.31 this is my Ip range and they say the following Ips must not be configured on the server: 85.25.230.0 - network address 85.25.230.1 - gateway address 85.25.230.2 - router redundancy 85.25.230.3 - router redundancy 85.25.230.31 - broadcast address But the problem is ok Ips are assigned to me but they are not setup on my server. How will I setup Ips to work on my server? I did this after my reseach on google: I used this command on command prompt: route add 85.25.230.0 mask 255.255.255.224 85.25.230.1 metric 1 if then it said OK!. and I thought they should be working. (btw, mask is given to me by my ISP and I don't know metric 1 and if means I just saw it on the net and write it here) I setup my domains via using Plesk Kontrol Panel. So i added one domain and setup one of my new Ips 85.25.230.5 to it. But no it is not working. When I visit the domain via browser, there is a Plesk page comes and says this domain is not configured on the server. Then I changed the domains Ip to one of my old Ips which are given to me with the server and which I have been using for my other domains for a long time. Ok in a second, domain started working. I set it back to my new Ip and domain did not work. As I said, I'm not an expert and do not now the logic. But I'm eager to learn. Can you tell me what might couse the problem and did I do wrong while setting up IP RANGE to my server, if so how can I set them up? Thank you, Efe

  • Inside Red Gate - Experimenting In Public

    - by Simon Cooper
Over the next few weeks, we'll be performing experiments on SmartAssembly to confirm or refute various hypotheses we have about how people use the product, what is stopping them from using it to its full extent, and what we can change to make it more useful and easier to use. Some of these experiments can be done within the team, some within Red Gate, and some need to be done on external users. External testing Some external testing can be done by standard usability tests and surveys, however, there are some hypotheses that can only be tested by building a version of SmartAssembly with some things in the UI or implementation changed. We'll then be able to look at how the experimental build is used compared to the 'mainline' build, which forms our baseline or control group, and use this data to confirm or refute the relevant hypotheses. However, there are several issues we need to consider before running experiments using separate builds: Ideally, the user wouldn't know they're running an experimental SmartAssembly. We don't want users to use the experimental build like it's an experimental build, we want them to use it like it's the real mainline build. Only then will we get valid, useful, and informative data concerning our hypotheses. There's no point running the experiments if we can't find out what happens after the download. To confirm or refute some of our hypotheses, we need to find out how the tool is used once it is installed. Fortunately, we've applied feature usage reporting to the SmartAssembly codebase itself to provide us with that information. Of course, this then makes the experimental data conditional on the user agreeing to send that data back to us in the first place. Unfortunately, even though this does limit the amount of useful data we'll be getting back, and possibly skew the data, there's not much we can do about this; we don't collect feature usage data without the user's consent. Looks like we'll simply have to live with this. What if the user tries to buy the experiment? This is something that isn't really covered by the Lean Startup book; how do you support users who give you money for an experiment? If the experiment is a new feature, and the user buys a license for SmartAssembly based on that feature, then what do we do if we later decide to pivot & scrap that feature? We've either got to spend time and money bringing that feature up to production quality and into the mainline anyway, or we've got disgruntled customers. Either way is bad. Again, there's not really any good solution to this. Similarly, what if we've removed some features for an experiment and a potential new user downloads the experimental build? (As I said above, there's no indication the build is an experimental build, as we want to see what users really do with it). The crucial feature they need is missing, causing a bad trial experience, a lost potential customer, and a lost chance to help the customer with their problem. Again, this is something not really covered by the Lean Startup book, and something that doesn't have a good solution. So, some tricky issues there, not all of them with nice easy answers. Turns out the practicalities of running Lean Startup experiments are more complicated than they first seem!

  • What is the structure of network managers system-connections files?

    - by Oyks Livede
could anyone list the complete structure of the configuration files, which network manager stores for known networks in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections for known networks? Sample (filename askUbuntu): [connection] id=askUbuntu uuid=81255b2e-bdf1-4bdb-b6f5-b94ef16550cd type=802-11-wireless [802-11-wireless] ssid=askUbuntu mode=infrastructure mac-address=00:08:CA:E6:76:D8 [ipv6] method=auto [ipv4] method=auto I would like to create some of them by my own using a script. However, before doing so I would like to know every possible option. Furthermore, this structure seems somehow to resemble the information you can get using the dbus for active connections. dbus-send --system --print-reply \ --dest=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager \ "$active_setting_path" \ # /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/2 org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.Settings.Connection.GetSettings Will tell you: array [ dict entry( string "802-11-wireless" array [ dict entry( string "ssid" variant array of bytes "askUbuntu" ) dict entry( string "mode" variant string "infrastructure" ) dict entry( string "mac-address" variant array of bytes [ 00 08 ca e6 76 d8 ] ) dict entry( string "seen-bssids" variant array [ string "02:1A:11:F8:C5:64" string "02:1A:11:FD:1F:EA" ] ) ] ) dict entry( string "connection" array [ dict entry( string "id" variant string "askUbuntu" ) dict entry( string "uuid" variant string "81255b2e-bdf1-4bdb-b6f5-b94ef16550cd" ) dict entry( string "timestamp" variant uint64 1383146668 ) dict entry( string "type" variant string "802-11-wireless" ) ] ) dict entry( string "ipv4" array [ dict entry( string "addresses" variant array [ ] ) dict entry( string "dns" variant array [ ] ) dict entry( string "method" variant string "auto" ) dict entry( string "routes" variant array [ ] ) ] ) dict entry( string "ipv6" array [ dict entry( string "addresses" variant array [ ] ) dict entry( string "dns" variant array [ ] ) dict entry( string "method" variant string "auto" ) dict entry( string "routes" variant array [ ] ) ] ) ] I can create new setting files using the dbus (AddSettings() in /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings) passing this type of input, so explaining me this structure and telling me all possible options will also help. Afaik, this is a Dictionary{String, Dictionary{String, Variant}}. Will there be any difference creating config files directly or using the dbus?

  • Weird routing issue (updated)

    - by smccloud
I just updated the route tables due to a mistake on my part. I am working on getting networking working correctly on a cluster of 14 virtual servers at a customer site. 11 of them work fine for routing and 3 don't work correctly for their administrative network (172.28.56.0). All are running Windows Web Server 2008R2. Default gateway is set on the production network (172.28.58.0) and not on the administrative network (handled with persistent static routes). • SQL SERVER – BACKUPIO, BACKUPBUFFER – Wait Type – Day 14 of 28

    - by pinaldave
Backup is the most important task for any database admin. Your data is at risk if you are not performing database backup. Honestly, I have seen many DBAs who know how to take backups but do not know how to restore it. (Sigh!) In this blog post we are going to discuss about one of my real experiences with one of my clients – BACKUPIO. When I started to deal with it, I really had no idea how to fix the issue. However, after fixing it at two places, I think I know why this is happening but at the same time, I am not sure the fix is the best solution. The reality is that the fix is not a solution but a workaround (which is not optimal, but get your things done). From Book On-Line: BACKUPIO Occurs when a backup task is waiting for data, or is waiting for a buffer in which to store data. This type is not typical, except when a task is waiting for a tape mount. BACKUPBUFFER Occurs when a backup task is waiting for data, or is waiting for a buffer in which to store data. This type is not typical, except when a task is waiting for a tape mount. BACKUPIO and BACKUPBUFFER Explanation: This wait stats will occur when you are taking the backup on the tape or any other extremely slow backup system. Reducing BACKUPIO and BACKUPBUFFER wait: In my recent consultancy, backup on tape was very slow probably because the tape system was very old. During the time when I explained this wait type reason in the consultancy, the owners immediately decided to replace the tape drive with an alternate system. They had a small SAN enclosure not being used on side, which they decided to re-purpose. After a week, I had received an email from their DBA, saying that the wait stats have reduced drastically. At another location, my client was using a third party tool (please don’t ask me the name of the tool) to take backup. This tool was compressing the backup along with taking backup. I have had a very good experience with this tool almost all the time except this one sparse experience. When I tried to take backup using the native SQL Server compressed backup, there was a very small value on this wait type and the backup was much faster. However, when I attempted with the third party backup tool, this value was very high again and was taking much more time. The third party tool had many other features but the client was not using these features. We end up using the native SQL Server Compressed backup and it worked very well. If I get to see this higher in my future consultancy, I will try to understand this wait type much more in detail and so probably I would able to come to some solid solution. Read all the post in the Wait Types and Queue series. Note: The information presented here is from my experience and there is no way that I claim it to be accurate. I suggest reading Book OnLine for further clarification. All the discussion of Wait Stats in this blog is generic and varies from system to system. It is recommended that you test this on a development server before implementing it to a production server. • acessing a subnetwork from within a vm

    - by yan bellavance
I have a pc running windows 7. I have vmwareplayer running RHEL5 I have 1 physical ethernet connection. this ethernet connection is wired to a hub. there is another device on that hub that needs to be in a certain subnetwork (192.168.0.xxx)(lets call him device X) but the general network is 192.168.1.xxx How can I configure the network adapters so that I can ping device X from RHEL5 in the vm. Originally I could ping google from both windows and rhel (I was in the .1 network) but not device X since he is on a different subnetwork address. Now that I have put it on the .0 I can ping device X from windows but not from rhel5 and cannot access the web. I did this by manually setting the IP address.

  • How to run node.js app on port 80? Are processes blocking my port?

    - by Lucas
I believe the port 80 on my remote instance is blocked, and I am trying to run a node.js app using port 80. I have experimented with ports 3000 and 3002, and both ports are working fine, but I get an error when running on port 80. I suspect port 80 is blocked from my output of netstat -an below, but how can I find the process id's of the addresses that are blocking port 80 below? - by Benson
I have a Windows 2008 box set up with VPN, and that works quite well. NPS is used to validate the VPN clients, who are able to access the private address of the server, once connected. I can't for the life of me get NAT working for the VPN clients, though. I've added NAT as a routing protocol, and set the one on in the VPN address pool as private, and the other as public - but it still won't NAT connections when I add a route through the VPN server's IP on the client side (route add SomeInternetIp IpOfPrivateInterfaceOnServer). I know I can reach the server's private interface (which happens to be 10.2.2.1) with remote desktop client, so I can't think of any issues with the VPN.

  • Snow Leopard - resolving hostnames issue

    - by romant
This worked in Leopard, although since Snowie came along … I have a Location setup with a DNS server to use [eg 10.0.0.17] , and a search string [eg sub.dom.ain.com] In the terminal: $ nslookup cake Server 10.0.0.17 Address: 10.0.0.17#53 Name: cake.sub.dom.ain.com Address: 10.0.0.38 So works like a charm. Although if I just the hostname cake in any other application within OSX - such as Safari/CoRD, they simply can't resolve the hostname. I have to instead use the FQDN cake.sub.dom.ain.com - why is this so? Why did this work in Leopard and is now broken? Would love a solution. Thanks

  • Where did this incorrect cached DNS lookup come from?

    - by Stephen Jennings
Somehow, I've been having a chronic issue where my computer will get an invalid DNS lookup in its cache for either of the two Exchange servers I use from Mail.app. My workplace runs one of the Exchange servers and I run the other (they are totally unrelated, hosted by different companies, etc.). The problem manifests as a certificate domain error. When it happens, I can run nslookup mail.mydomain.com and I see the incorrect IP address (usually owned by either Apple or Akamai), but if I run nslookup mail.mydomain.com 8.8.8.8, I get the correct address. My real quest is to find out why this keeps happening, and to do that, I'd like to know which server is supplying me this bad DNS entry. Is there a way to check my DNS cache to see where this bad lookup came from?

  • How to create a "retro" pixel shader for transformed 2D sprites that maintains pixel fidelity?

    - by David Gouveia
The image below shows two sprites rendered with point sampling on top of a background: The left skull has no rotation/scaling applied to it, so every pixel matches perfectly with the background. The right skull is rotated/scaled, and this results in larger pixels that are no longer axis aligned. How could I develop a pixel shader that would render the transformed sprite on the right with axis aligned pixels of the same size as the rest of the scene? This might be related to how sprite scaling was implemented in old games such as Monkey Island, because that's the effect I'm trying to achieve, but with rotation added. Edit As per kaoD's suggestions, I tried to address the problem as a post-process. The easiest approach was to render to a separate render target first (downsampled to match the desired pixel size) and then upscale it when rendering a second time. It did address my requirements above. First I tried doing it Linear -> Point and the result was this: There's no distortion but the result looks blurred and it loses most of the highlights colors. In my opinion it breaks the retro look I needed. The second time I tried Point -> Point and the result was this: Despite the distortion, I think that might be good enough for my needs, although it does look better as a still image than in motion. To demonstrate, here's a video of the effect, although YouTube filtered the pixels out of it: http://youtu.be/hqokk58KFmI However, I'll leave the question open for a few more days in case someone comes up with a better sampling solution that maintains the crisp look while decreasing the amount of distortion when moving.

  • Google Account Changes that Messed Up My Ability to Manage Sites

    - by A Yearwood
I hope you can help... I have a google account that I use to manage my church website. This account is set up with my work email address. My work (a school system) is in the process of changing us all over to use google accounts to replace Outlook. When I logged in to this new account (which is my same email address) it no longer lets me manage my google site. Under my dashboard I can see that my data is still there, but when I try to "manage" my site it says I don't have one and re-directs me to my school's account. Thanks in advance. A Yearwood

  • Windows 7 and XP Networking

    - by David-Zazeski
I'm trying to setup a home network between a windows 7 and windows xp machine. I have a small hub. My XP computer has a manually assigned IP address (192.168.0.10) and I set my Windows 7 machine to have a manually assigned IP address (192.168.0.15). The XP computer works, but the Windows 7 machine does not see the network. It says that there is no connectivity. Ping does not work from either machine. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • StrongSwan + xl2tpd client timeout between 2-5 minutes

I setup a simple IPSec connection: conn l2tp type=transport keyexchange=ikev1 rekey=no authby=psk leftsubnet=0.0.0.0/0 rightsubnet=0.0.0.0/0 compress=yes auto=add And here is xl2tpd.conf: [global] ipsec saref = yes [lns default] ip range = 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.250 local ip = 192.168.0.1 ppp debug = yes pppoptfile = /etc/ppp/options.xl2tpd length bit = yes Here is options.xl2tpd: ms-dns 8.8.4.4 auth lock debug proxyarp There is only one client - Android 4.2 Android connects successfully: Oct 27 19:45:02 ip-172-31-17-30 xl2tpd[2706]: Connection established to x.x.x.x, 59578. So what might have gone wrong? The same L2TP service works flawlessly on iOS 7, MacOS 10.8, and Windows 7, there is no disconnection issue on those OSes. Thank you!
