• What exactly is Two-way databinding in WPF ?

  I'm learning WPF with MVVM and for a starter, I viewed Jason Dolinger's video on MVVM . In that he mentioned, that one of the advantage of using MVVM with WPF is two-way data binding. My question is what does he mean by two-way data binding? Is that the feature of ability to 1) bind data from controls(View) to properties in VM and 2) any change in collections or properties are reflected in the view? If I'm wrong, can anyone please explain me in detail what it is and what are its advantages? This might be a very simple doubt, but I'm very new to WPF and it's terminologies and moving away from WinForms now.

• Wordpress plugin: ajaxStart conflict in Post page (autosave)

  I am developing a small plugin which appears in the post page and it has a touch of Ajax. $("#some-div").ajaxStart(function(){ $(this).html('Loading...'); }); $.post( AjaxHandler.ajaxurl, { action : 'wt4-cats', }, function(response) { //do some stuff }); thing is that Wordpress triggers the autosave feature every few minutes or so and affects my ajaxStart call. I mean, on autosave the "some-div" html becomes "Loading...". Is possible to avoid that?

• How new is @font-face, and what do I need to know before I add it to a website?

  I started getting into reading design blogs a little while ago, and it seemed that @font-face got really popular sometime late last year, or something like that, because I was under the impression that it was a new emerging feature of the web. But then I saw that Internet Explorer has had it since IE4 (with some conversion). So is it common to see @font-face online nowadays? Sould I have anything in mind with respect to accessibility, legality, or rendering before I do something like this? I saw that Hulu.com renders fonts with Canvas and a javascript called "cufon."

• Visual Studio add-in for performance benchmarking

  I'd like to measure the performance of some code blocks in my c# winforms application. In particular I want to measure performance regression/improvement after some restructuring of the code. So long I've seen the System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch. However, I want to avoid writing measuring code into my classes, I would rather prefer to separate measuring from actual code. As for debugging, you can set breakpoints on several code lines and "jump" from one to the next by "Continue Execution", I imagine something similar for measuring: Mark to lines of code and make Visual Studio display the time elapsing from one to the next. Is there any feature/add-in in that direction?

• Modularity Java: top level vs. nested classes

  The Java tutorials that I read, like to use nested classes to demonstrate a concept, a feature or use. This led me to initially implement a sample project I created just like that: Lots of nested classes in the main activity class. It works, but now I got a monstrous monolithic .java file. I find it somewhat inconvenient and I now intend to break to multiple .java files/classes. It occurred to me, however, that sometimes there may be reasons not to take classes out of their enclosing class. If so, what are good reasons to keep a module large, considering modularity and ease of maintenance?

• Unsigned versus signed numbers as indexes

  Whats the rationale for using signed numbers as indexes in .Net? In Python, you can index from the end of an array by sending negative numbers, but this is not the case in .Net. It's not easy for .Net to add such a feature later as it could break other code perhaps using special rules (yeah, a bad idea, but I guess it happens) on indexing. Not that I have ever have needed to index arrays over 2,147,483,647 in size, but I really cannot understand why they choose signed numbers. Can it be because it's more normal to use signed numbers in code?

  Hello, I have implemented In App purchase in my existing application. This application is currently available on app store as paid application, I want to update this paid application to free application with this In App purchase feature, where users can download it freely and have to pay for few features to unlock them. But the problem is that, if I update the existing paid application as free application (with few features locked and user has to buy it to unlock it), what about the users who have already purchased this application. Because when they will update to new free application, few features will be locked and they have to pay again to unlock them (why should they pay, if they have already purchased whole application previously). • recursive find in emacs?

  Is there a recursive find function for a find in emacs? I thought the 'nix "find" was implemented in eshell but perhaps not (I've been using it on OS X but it must have been calling FreeBSD's "find")... I know of rgrep, find-grep, grep-find, in emacs, but I don't actually need the grepping part. Perhaps it's a feature in one of dired's functions (though I didn't find it)? Using windows and I miss some 'nix utilities... thought emacs 23.2 might fill in for me.

• jQuery Validation 1.10 and MVC server-side errors

  This feature used to work just fine on my website. If I added a custom error to ModelState, the input on the page would be marked as "input-validation-error" and the Html.ValidationMessage() would take care of rendering a span with the error message inside it. Due to incompatibility reasons we had to upgrade our jQuery Validation to 1.10: Now when I add a custom error to ModelState, I can debug and see that the HTML elements being rendered correctly, but as soon as the page load is completed, jQuery Validation removes the error message and set the "class" attribute of the input to "valid"! Has any one else come across this issue? UPDATE Testing further shows that the error message is shown on the screen until the field gains focus. As soon as the field gains focus jQuery Validation removes the customer server-side error message and marks the field as good.

  I just watched a video of Douglas Crockford's presentation about his 2009 book JavaScript: The Good Parts. In the video, he explains that the following block is dangerous because it produces silent errors: return { ok: false }; And that it should actually be written like this (emphasising that although seemingly identical the behavioural difference is crucial): return { ok: false }; You can see his comments around 32 minutes into the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQVTIJBZook&feature=player_embedded#!&start=1920 I have not heard this before, and was wondering if this rule still applies or if this requirement in syntax has been overcome by JavaScript developments since this statement was made. • Determine when using the VC90 compiler in VS2010 instead of VS2008?

  Is there a (Microsoft-specific) CPP macro to determine when I'm using the VC9 compiler in Visual Studio 2010 as opposed to Visual Studio 2008? _MSC_VER returns the compiler version, so with VS2010 multi-targeting feature, I'll get the same result as with VS2008. The reason for wanting to know the difference is that I created a new VS2010 project which contains code removed from a larger project. I just left the VS2008 stuff "as is" since we're moving away from VS2008 "soon" anyway and I didn't want to go through the hassle of creating a vcproj file along with the new vcxproj. For now, I've just defined my own macro to indicate whether the code is compiled into its own DLL or not; it works just fine, but it would be nice if there were something slightly more elegant.

• Possible to get the line number of the currently executing sproc in SQL Server?

  A few years back I worked in a Sybase/Delphi environment, using the BDE to connect to the DB server. We had a little Delphi app that, given the name of a currently executing stored procedure, could tell you what line of that sproc was currently being executed. This was exceptionally useful for debugging sprocs that seemed to be hanging. I'd like to use this functionality in SQL Server, but I can't remember whether it was a Sybase or a BDE feature. Is this functionality available in SQL Server and if so, what command(s) do I need to use to view this information?

• Exception "Illegal attempt to associate a collection with two open sessions" when saving object

  I am using CastleProject ActiveRecord and I use lazy load feature of this ORM. In order to make lazy load work, it is required to create SessionScope. I do this in Program.cs: public static SessionScope sessionScope; private static void InitializeActiveRecord() { ActiveRecordStarter.Initialize(); sessionScope = new SessionScope(); } This works fine for loading, however, when I try to save my objects, I get an exception saying "Illegal attempt to associate a collection with two open sessions". I guess this is due to the fact that I created one session myself. How to avoid this exception?

  I'm in the process of Moving a project from Visual Studio 2003 to 2005 and have just seen the The event Click is read-only and cannot be changed when using inherited forms regardless of the Modifier on the Base Forms Controls will make all the Controls from the Base Readonly in the designer (Though in 2003 it didn't work this way). • How to get a product key token from a library file programatically?

  I am creating a SharePoint solution project that will install the Telerik dll files into the GAC and write the appropriate lines into the webconfig upon feature activation. My question is, is there a way to get the product key token, version, and culture info of a dll programatically. I have used the System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly() before to get the embedded resources, such as a javascript file, and add it to the appropriate folder. Would this be the same way to get the dll file, and if so what would I do to get the assembly info of an embedded assembly? Thanks for any direction.

• How to access project files from NUnit tests

  I have some Tests that I run with ReSharpers "Run All Tests from Solution" feature. One of the classes being tested has a dependency on a file in the same folder as the assembly containing it. This file is copied to the output directory via MSBuild (set "Copy To Output Directory" to "Copy always"). Problem: The tests are not being run from the normal assembly output directory, but instead some temporary location in my user profile. Therefore, I don't really know where to look for the file - the test runner does not copy it there. Can I force it to?

Currently I am in phase of breaking sentences of user input. e.g.: "I am working in language translation". "I have used Google MT API for this" In above example i will break above sentence by full stop (.) This is normal cases where I am breaking sentence on dot, but there are n number of characters for breaking sentence like ( . ! ? etc ). I have following SRX rules for segmentation. As some needed plugins are generated using GMF and EMF, the build workflow must be something like this: SVN Check-out Invoke Generation Run Tests Build all Publish update-site Over the last couple of weeks, i played around with PDE Headless Build and Buckminster. Anyhow i still got problems with both and can't decide on which i should spent my effort. So what would you prefer? What experience you made?   I am trying to read the authorization header for an HTTP request (because I need to add something to it), but I always get null for the header value.   I usually use the "Publish" feature in VS 2008 to get the correct files and so on that I can publish to my website. But from time to time publish fails without any good error message at all. I know that it can be a couple of different reasons but I am starting to grow really tired with this now. Can anyone teach me how to build the website from the command line? As I said it is a MVC project. Can I use the aspnet_compiler for this? What parameters should I use to simulate the same behavior as a "Publish"?

• Is there a way to retrieve the Computer Name of a Xenapp client?

  What options exist for identifying the client name of a particular client from within the process running on Citrix Presentation 4.0, or Xenapp 5, and are there any important differences in retrieving this information in either scenario? Currently my software is a client that connects to a service on a server, and the primary means of identification are computer name and IP Address. When installed on a Citrix Presentation server, all running instances currently show the same Computer Name and IP Address, which are those of the server. My application is written in VB 6.0, however I am looking to implement the new feature in C# .NET. Any help or clarification on the question itself would be appreciated, as I am not experienced with developing for Citrix thin clients.

• VWD Express won't let me add one table!

  Sorry if this question is too trivial but I really haven't found any related questions and I am shaking too much to think logically. I spent like few hours waiting for SQL Server to finally install (you know, it's Microsoft) and now when I want to add new table to database it says "this feature is not supported by Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express". How could this happen? I mean, what's the point of even letting me use this if I can't even add one table to database, and I won't even know about it until I actually need to do it? Are they really serious or is it just some mistake? Is there any way to get around this problem? I need to create just one simple project with one small table in database but it won't let me, but I can't believe they could actually have nerves to make express edition without such a trivial function, so maybe I just made something wrong and there's actually some way to add this table? Sorry for being so whiny but I'm just fed up with this environment.
