• Does lookaround affect which languages can be matched by regular expressions?

  There are some features in modern regex engines which allow you to match languages that couldn't be matched without that feature. For example the following regex using back references matches the language of all strings that consist of a word that repeats itself: (.+)\1. This language is not regular and can't be matched by a regex, which does not use back references. My question: Does lookaround also affect which languages can be matched by a regular expression? I.e. are there any languages that can be matched using lookaround, which couldn't be matched otherwise? If so, is this true for all flavors of lookaround (negative or positive lookahead or lookbehind) or just for some of them?

• Livevalidation: only validate when default value is changed

  Hello there! I am validating my html form with livevalidation and everything works great except for one feature. I have a input field with a default value age, I only want the livevalidation to validate when it says something other than "age". so maybe the user will type in 20 then the validation will fire checking its things but if left as "age" it won't check it all. But as of now, it just checks everything with a validation script and this is a problem for me as I have lots of fields in my form and some of them are optional so when I hit submit, the livevalidation checks the age field as well even if the user didnt touch it to begin with. Would this be possible with livevalidation ? Thanks for the help.

  Dojo seems to have a useful feature in that it can setup event handlers and default options, etc for Dijit.form elements as it is inserting it into the DOM.   Last time I coded a web application was almost 10 years ago. I used Java/JSP/HTML/CSS etc. I've been coding non-web applications only ever since. When I look at modern sites now (like this one), I realize how my web development skills are obsolete. Maybe the most obvious "feature" that I wouldn't know how to implement now is the update of elements on the page after user input without having to refresh the whole page (e.g. the voting/downvoting here updates the vote count without reloading the whole page). What are the basic technologies behind this?

  Hi All I am trying to implement a feature. But I've never had anything to do with "Web Services" before, other than using them. I have a desktop application, and I want that application to be able to sort of "post" some information (i.e. email address, username, user-selected options (just plain text) etc) to an application or "web service" on my ASP.NET web server.   I'm trying to work out a good method to manage code changes on a large project with multiple teams. We use subversion at the moment, but I want more flexibility in building a new release than I seem to be able to get with subversion. Here's roughly I want: for each developer to create easily identifiable patches for the project. Each patch delivers a complete user story (a releasable feature or fix). It might encompass many changes to many files. developers are able to easily apply and remove their own and other patches to facilitate testing release manager selects the patches to be used in the next release into a new branch branch is tested, fixes merged in, and ultimately merged into live teams can then pull these changes back down into their sandboxes. I'm looking at stacked git as a way of achieving this, but what other tools or techniques can deliver this sort of workflow?

• Can you iterate over chunks() with request.POST in Django?

  I'm trying to optimize a site I'm building with Django/Flash and am having a problem using Django's iterate over chunks() feature. I'm sending an image from Flash to Django using request.POST data rather than through a form (using request.FILES). The problem I foresee is that if there is large user volume, I could potentially kill memory. But it seems that Django only allows iterating over chunks with request.FILES. Is there a way to: 1) wrap my request.POST data into a request.FILES (thus spoofing Django) or 2) use chunks() with request.POST data

• Where is BuildConfig.DEBUG?

  My project doesn't seem to be aware of this new constant that's apparently auto-generated in Android Tools r17 builds: "Added a feature that allows you to run some code only in debug mode. Builds now generate a class called BuildConfig containing a DEBUG constant that is automatically set according to your build type. You can check the (BuildConfig.DEBUG) constant in your code to run debug-only functions such as outputting debug logs." I've confirmed that this class is not being auto-generated anywhere in my project by the new tools. I deleted all project outputs (including all gen folders) and rebuilt, and only R.java classes are being generated. Why are the tools not generating the BuildConfig class? It may be relevant that I'm using IntelliJ.

  Hi I want to conduct search on a particular column of a table in such a way that returning result set should satify following 2 conditions: Returning result set should have records whose 90% of the characters matches with the given search text. Returning result set should have records whose 70% of the consecutive characters matches with the given search text. It implies that when 10 character word Sukhminder is searched, then: it should return records like Sukhmindes, ukhminder, Sukhmindzr, because it fulfils both of the above mentioned conditions. But it should not return records like Sukhmixder because it does not fulfil the second condition. Likewise, It should not return record Sukhminzzz because it does not fulfil the first condition. I am trying to use Full Text Search feature of SQL Server. But, could not formulate the required query yet. Kindly reply ASAP.

  I'm writing a test app using the twitter gem and I'd like to write an integration test but I can't figure out how to mock the objects in the Twitter namespace. • Gridview with row being edited causing error when form submitted

  Using ASP.NET VB, I have a form with some text boxes and a Gridview. If a user clicks the Edit button on a row in the gridview, and then tries to submit the form with a row still in edit mode on the Gridview, this error is generated - "Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" % in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation. " Any idea how to prevent this error??

  My impression of Python from the short time I've been developing with it is that it's incredible powerful and flexible, but I can't help but feel like "with great power comes great responsibility." So while I've read numerous blog posts about simple and elegant Python snippets that solve a problems, I wonder if there are design patterns or abuses of Python language features that, once built into an application or library, cause the code to be incredibly brittle and near impossible to refactor. So the question is basically what are the most frustrating, but somewhat common, Python "hacks" or language feature abuses that someone can introduce that will cause nightmares for future maintainers of that code?

• C# - A good library to fake Time.Now?

  Hi, In order to Unit-Test a feature, I need to fake DateTime.Now. Something like: SupposeNowIs(new DateTime(..)); I can either use a third library that does it, or write my own little class. What do you recommand? Do you know any good library for this purpose? How would you fake time in C#? By changing DateTime.Now? (I suppose it's read only?). Thank you!

• Image display permissions in PHP/Apache

  I have a PHP site with a login system, and am trying to make a feature where only specific usernames can view particular images. I think what I'm trying to do is more involved than merely changing the .htaccess file, because a) this won't help discern between users that are/aren't allowed to view the image, and b) if someone enters the exact URL of the image ("directory/images/photos/230ru0q0238rn230nd_asdi0nqn8.jpg") they can still view the image (since it's a physical file in the directory, and not text in a DB, etc.). Again, restricting via .htaccess would restrict the directory as a whole, or all files in it, so I can't figure out how it would work. Ideally, all images would be blocked by trying to access them directly through their direct URL, and the image would only appear between <img> tags if the user's session/username is valid, else they get an error message. I've heard the term ACL but I'm not sure this is related to what I'm trying to do.

Anyway, ATI Drivers on Linux do not have a Fan control feature and therefore the cards to tend to heat up. For me I prefer to have a cooler card. What I want to do is run a command such as: aticonfig --pplib-cmd 'set fanspeed 0 70' In a application but I the thing is..How can I run that code so it works, I am currently running Ubuntu 10.04, and it does work in the terminal, but I want to implement it into an application. • Do you know of a good program for editing/translating resource (.rc) files?

  I'm building a C++/MFC program in a multilingual environment. I have one main (national) language and three international languages. Every time I add a feature to the program I have to keep the international languages up-to-date with the national one. The resource editor in Visual Studio is not very helpful because I frequently end up leaving a string, dialog box, etc., untranslated. I wonder if you guys know of a program that can edit resource (.rc) files and Build a file that includes only the strings to be translated and their respective IDs and accepts the same (or similar) file in another language (this would be helpful since usually the translation is done by someone else), or Handle the translations itself, allowing to view the same string in different languages at the same time.

• How to access a website's url programmatically from within the page

  For work, I am working on a site that has a feature that lets users make custom instances of the site depending on who they want to show it to. So if they want to show their potential employer a little bit about themselves, they can send them a custom url, that has a uid on the end of it that tells the database what to show and what not to when the site is loaded up. Now, I need to be able to take the value that is on the end of the url, this unique uid that corresponds with their preferences in the db, accessable on run time. Meaning that when someone types in this custom url, I need to be able to show the name of the person whose portfolio is being viewed BEFORE password authentication takes place... If I could get the URL, I suppose I could parse through it to find the necessary UID...but how do I get the url? Maybe I am just missing something here, but if anyone has any thoughts or ideas, it would be appreciated!! Thanks

• Understanding the passing of data/life of a script in web development/CodeIgniter

  I hope I worded the title accurately enough but I typically use Java and don't have much experience in Web Development/PHP/CodeIgniter. I have a difficult time understanding the life cycle of a script as I found out trying to implement a certain feature to a website I am developing (as a means of learning how to). I'll first describe the feature I tried implementing and then the problem I ran into that made me question my fundamental understanding of how scripts work since I'm used to typical OOP. Ok so here goes... I have a webpage that has 2 basic tasks a user can do, create and delete an entry. What I attempted to implement was a way to time a user how long it takes them to complete a certain task. The way I did this was have a homepage where there would be a list of tasks a user to choose from (in this case 2, create and delete). A user would click a task which would link to the 'true' homepage where the user then would be expected to complete the task. Now there's no error in the code but it doesn't do what I expect of it and the reason I assume why is because that each time a function of the script is called via a new page it is NOT the same instance of the script called previously so any previously created objects are no longer there. This confuses me and leaves me quite unsure of how to implement this gracefully. Some ways I would guess of how to do this is by passing the necessary data through the URL or have data saved in a database and retrieve it later to compare the times. What would be a recommended way to do, not just this, but anything that needs previously created data? Also, am I correct to think that a script is only 'alive' for one webpage at a time? Thanks!

• What are the other new features of C# 4.0, after dynamic and optional parameters?

  So, C# 4.0 came out yesterday. It introduced the much-debated dynamic keyword, named and optional parameters. Smaller improvements were the implicit ref and recognizing of indexed and default properties on COM methods, contra- and co-variance (really a .NET CLR feature, not C# only) and... Is that really it? Are dynamic and optional/named params the only real improvements to C#? Or did I miss something? Not that I'm complaining, but it seems a bit meager after C# 2.0 (generics) and C# 3.0 (lambda, LINQ). Maybe the language just reached actual maturity?

• Servlet 3 spec and ThreadLocal

  As far as I know, Servlet 3 spec introduces asynchronous processing feature. Among other things, this will mean that the same thread can and will be reused for processing another, concurrent, HTTP request(s). This isn't revolutionary, at least for people who worked with NIO before. Anyway, this leads to another important thing: no ThreadLocal variables as a temporary storage for the request data. Because if the same thread suddenly becomes the carrier thread to a different HTTP request, request-local data will be exposed to another request. All of that is my pure speculation based on reading articles, I haven't got time to play with any Servlet 3 implementations (Tomcat 7, GlassFish 3.0.X, etc.). So, the questions: Am I correct to assume that ThreadLocal will cease to be a convenient hack to keep the request data? Has anybody played with any of Servlet 3 implementations and tried using ThreadLocals to prove the above? Apart from storing data inside HTTP Session, are there any other similar easy-to-reach hacks you could possibly advise?

  I am recently thinking about writing self-modifying programs, I think it may be powerful and fun... So I am currently looking for a language that allow modifying program own code easily.. I read about C# and the ability to compile -and execute- code in runtime, but that is too hurting.. I am also thinking about assembly... it is easier there to change running code but it is not very powerful... Can you suggest me a powerful language -or a feature- that support modifying code in runtime..? • SEO dynamic / AJAX pages

  I have a very dynamic / ajax powered website which also includes iframes and due this reason I have a very bad SEO rank and it come in my mind to make one more additional version of the site (text based / no script) and serve it to the search engines based on the user agent . Please let me know if you think that is a feasible method and if it's not what else would you recommend me to do ..   I am learning JPA and have confusion in the @SequenceGenerator annotation. Upto my understanding, it automatically assigns a value to numeric identity fields/properties of an entity. Q1. Does this sequence generator make use of the database's increasing numeric value generating capability or generates the number on his own? Q2. If JPA uses database auto increement feauture, then will it work with datastores that don't have auto increement feature? Q3. If JPA generate numeric value on his own, then how the JPA implementation knows which value to generate next? Does it consult with the database first to see what value was stored last so as to generate the value (last + 1). ====================================================================================== Q4. Please also throw some light on sequenceName and allocationSize properties of @SequenceGenerator annotation.

• How to implement partial refresh like facebook like/comments?

Vote or add comments will commit immediately and refresh total vote number and comments count. We want to refresh current row instead of whole table just like Facebook does. If need, we can show the list of data with form format (iterator List of data) instead of table format. How to implement this feature base on JSF?
