• Restricting permissions to individual documents on SharePoint

  Here's what I'm trying to do: I would like to create a list of documents on a site in my company's SharePoint site. Each document should have specific user's permissions to view and edit it. For example: The list is for performance reports. John has his out there called "John_PR_09.docx". Only him and his supervisor should have permissions to view, edit, or do anything to it. And then another employee has hers out there with permissions for only her and her supervisor, and so on... I have tested this out with a document that I removed the groups and users from (since they inherit permissions from it's parent) and only gave my user account permissions to. I then asked someone else to try and open and she could, she even wrote "TEST" on the document and saved it. What am I doing wrong? I thought I stopped it from inheriting permissions from it's parent and only gave myself rights to edit it.

• Troubleshooting a slow database server with no load

  I'm getting ready to soft launch my website and I've run into some problems with what I think is being caused by my MySQL database running on Fedora. All websites run fine, just as I'd expect, but any pages that establish a database connection hang until the connection is established, and then bang, the site loads as it should. Ex. My landing page (http://www.thrusong.com) doesn't make a database connection and loads quickly. User profile pages (http://www.thrusong.com/john) make a database connection and load slowly, even though most of the data comes from memcached and the database currently has no load on it. This problem just came up yesterday when my router died and I began using my Pace 2Wire modem with built-in router. Before, my old router was set to handle everything. My ISP says the settings in the modem are correct. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

• Find keyword values from PDF [closed]

  I have a lot of PDF reports I'd need to index. They're mostly "text-based PDFs", not images. I know they all have account number in certain format, 123456AAAAA and some other keyword info like addresses, customer names etc. needed in indexing these files. Basically if the file is ab.pdf, I need to create ab.txt that contains: ACC=123456AAAA Customer=John Doe Date=20120808 What would be the best software/solution to generate indexing information for these? I know there's pdftotext, but piping it to different grep/awk commands is a hack... It would be nice to specify an area in PDF to search for the account number, and specify the format it is in.

• Creating a custom view for windows log based on a "Contains {text}" rule

  I have a server running Windows Server 2008. I'm using Windows Server Auditing to check when and by which user a folder is modified to determine who is modifying it as the modifications are causing problems. I can see the log of the audit when a change is made in the System log. How do I create a Custom View that will return all events from System log where a certain text (which is the folder name) is present? The create custom view doesn't seem to have that option. I'm not sure whether it's possible via custom xml query or whether I'll need to export the system log to csv and search in Excel. John

  I am supposed to go to an interview to a bank for just supporting managers in projects. It's a part-time job and the thing is that bank uses Excel for everything. Modifications of tables of really lot of data... What can I expect to find in the test of Excel? I have some books that are around 1000 pages thick but I don't have time and also don't feel like reading everything that's in them. • Is there a way to automatically display the username on the Desktop background in Win7?

  We have computer used by multiple users running Win7. Unfortunately, people forget to log out, or they just use the session that is currently open, or they think that they're using their own session, but in the meantime, somebody else has logged on without logging out. To make it clear to people that they're using somebody else's session, I'd like to display the username of the person logged on (the one that's visible in the start menu) on the Desktop wallpaper; something like "John Doe's session". Is that possible?

• How to map email addresses on subdomains

  Is it possible to create email addresses like these: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] and have them all handled by one mail server, as three different mail boxes? (Many examples I've seen talk about directing mail to [email protected] into the same mail box as [email protected] - but this is not what I'm looking for.) I haven't specified the server technology being used because I'm wondering if this is generally possible. If you know that server x can do this, please mention it in your answer! Is it correct that MX records can be set to direct email to all subdomains *.mydomain.com to one mail server? Is that still true if there are also web sites at those subdomains (using A records)? • Why does MOVE command in DOS treat wildcard patterns oddly in this case?

  I am using the "move" command with a wildcard pattern in the CMD prompt under Windows 7. In my source directory, I have the following files: movie1.avi movie1.avi_metadata movie2.avi movie2.avi_metadata If I type the command move source\*.avi dest it will move all four files even though I would expect it to only move the two *.avi files and not the *.avi_metadata files. As expected, move source\*.a dest and move source\*.av dest don't move any files. However when the length of the extension for the wildcard pattern is 3 characters, it will move all extensions that begin with those first three characters. Is this a bug in the "move" command or expected behavior and is it documented anywhere? Edit: John Watts notes that this is probably do to "short" filenames. Is it possible then to make commands in the CMD interpreter only operate on long filenames and to ignore short filenames?

  I have a netbook, with window 7 starter. I was trying to change the wallpaper, and found this application: John's Background Switcher which said that I can make slide show of themes, I guess it's as you set wallpaper with window 7 ultimate. The default wallpaper was still fine until downloading that application. After trying it, error occurred, I couldnt change the background, so I closed it, but then the default wallpaper changed its size, the central image dropped out of screen, can see aaprt of it on `bottom right hand corner. I tried to adjust the image into center, but it didnt work when i right click on desktop - Graphic option - panel fit - "center image". Anybody can help me? how to adjust it back to normal as original?

• SignalR cannot read property client of undefined

  I'm trying to add SignalR to my project (ASPNET MVC 4). But I can't make it work. In the below image you can see the error I'm receiving. I've read a lot of stackoverflow posts but none of them is resolving my issue. NOTE I'm following the instruction found here on how to set up Windsor Castle to make it work with SignalR, and again, seems that the proxy cannot be created and I'm getting the same error: Cannot read property client of undefined meaning that the proxy to the hub was not created This is how I have it in the server public class IncidentServerHub : Hub and like this in the client var clientServerHub = $.connection.incidentServerHub; Again, I can see the dynamically created file here: /GdpSoftware.Server.Web/signalr/hubs So, Why the proxy is not created? • Resolving html entities with NSXMLParse on iPhone

  Hi all, i think i read every single web page relating to this problem but i still cannot find a solution to it, so here i am. I have an HTML web page wich is not under my control and i need to parse it from my iPhone application. It calls foundCharacters: for "Bye Bye" and then it calls resolveExternalEntityName:systemID:: with an entityName of "egrave". In this method i'm just returning the character "è" trasformed in an NSData, the foundCharacters is called again adding the string "è" to the previous one "Bye Bye " and then the parser raise the NSXMLParserUndeclaredEntityError error. • How can I dynamically change auto complete entries in a C# combobox or textbox?

  I have a combobox in C# and I want to use auto complete suggestions with it, however I want to be able to change the auto complete entries as the user types, because the possible valid entries are far too numerous to populate the AutoCompleteStringCollection at startup. As an example, suppose I'm letting the user type in a name. I have a list of possible first names ("Joe", "John") and a list of surnames ("Bloggs", "Smith"), but if I have a thousand of each, then that would be a million possible strings - too many to put in the auto complete entries. So initially I want to have just the first names as suggestions ("Joe", "John") , and then once the user has typed the first name, ("Joe"), I want to remove the existing auto complete entries and replace them with a new set consisting of the chosen first name followed by the possible surnames ("Joe Bloggs", "Joe Smith"). In order to do this, I tried the following code: void InitializeComboBox() { ComboName.AutoCompleteMode = AutoCompleteMode.SuggestAppend; ComboName.AutoCompleteSource = AutoCompleteSource.CustomSource; ComboName.AutoCompleteCustomSource = new AutoCompleteStringCollection(); ComboName.TextChanged += new EventHandler( ComboName_TextChanged ); } void ComboName_TextChanged( object sender, EventArgs e ) { string text = this.ComboName.Text; string[] suggestions = GetNameSuggestions( text ); this.ComboQuery.AutoCompleteCustomSource.Clear(); this.ComboQuery.AutoCompleteCustomSource.AddRange( suggestions ); } However, this does not work properly. It seems that the call to Clear() causes the auto complete mechanism to "turn off" until the next character appears in the combo box, but of course when the next character appears the above code calls Clear() again, so the user never actually sees the auto complete functionality. It also causes the entire contents of the combo box to become selected, so between every keypress you have to deselect the existing text, which makes it unusable. If I remove the call to Clear() then the auto complete works, but it seems that then the AddRange() call has no effect, because the new suggestions that I add do not appear in the auto complete dropdown. I have been searching for a solution to this, and seen various things suggested, but I cannot get any of them to work - either the auto complete functionality appears disabled, or new strings do not appear. Here is a list of things I have tried: Calling BeginUpdate() before changing the strings and EndUpdate() afterwards. Calling Remove() on all the existing strings instead of Clear(). Clearing the text from the combobox while I update the strings, and adding it back afterwards. Setting the AutoCompleteMode to "None" while I change the strings, and setting it back to "SuggestAppend" afterwards. Hooking the TextUpdate or KeyPress event instead of TextChanged. Replacing the existing AutoCompleteCustomSource with a new AutoCompleteStringCollection each time. None of these helped, even in various combinations. Spence suggested that I try overriding the ComboBox function that gets the list of strings to use in auto complete. Using a reflector I found a couple of methods in the ComboBox class that look promising - GetStringsForAutoComplete() and SetAutoComplete(), but they are both private so I can't access them from a derived class. I couldn't take that any further. I tried replacing the ComboBox with a TextBox, because the auto complete interface is the same, and I found that the behaviour is slightly different. With the TextBox it appears to work better, in that the Append part of the auto complete works properly, but the Suggest part doesn't - the suggestion box briefly flashes to life but then immediately disappears.   Hi, I have a Content Query Webpart (CQWP) pulling the URL and title from a NewsLinks list. The CQWP uses the XSLT style LVIS.News.Links defined in ItemStyle.xsl. • mootools slideshow not working with JQuery. Need help !

  I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page. What can be the problem ? Mootools conflicting with javascript or some other problem. • TSQL Shred XML - Working with namespaces (newbie @ shredding XML)

  Here's a link to my previous question on this same block of code with a working shred example Ok, I'm a C# ASP.NET dev following orders: The orders are to take a given dataset, shred the XML and return columns. I've argued that it's easier to do the shredding on the ASP.NET side where we already have access to things like deserializers, etc, and the entire complex of known types, but no, the boss says "shred it on the server, return a dataset, bind the dataset to the columns of the gridview" so for now, I'm doing what I was told. This is all to head off the folks who will come along and say "bad requirements". • Jquery fadeOut looking different in FF than in Chrome/Safari

  Hey all, i have a page that when a user desides to delete a company, it fades out using the jquery fadeOut() command. This works great and does as it should in FireFox but for some reason it doesn't do the same in Chrome/Safari browsers. The problem is that i have a png image overlay on top of the company logo image that also fades out with the company logo. But if there are more than one company logo on the page, it moves the others in the place where the one got deleted. Like i said, it works fine (and as it should) in Firefox and even IE (SHOCK!) but not in Chrome or Safari. This is the code i use to delete (fade out) the section: $('#moreInfoM' + theNum).fadeOut("slow"); $('#moreInfo' + theNum).fadeOut("slow"); $('#liNum' + theNum).fadeOut("slow"); Where moreInfoM, moreInfo & liNum are all within the code for each logo image. • $.noConflict() not working with mootools slide show. Need help !

  I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page. What can be the problem ? Mootools conflicting with javascript or some other problem. If I tries to use $.noConflict() it throws me an error in script Uncaught TypeError: Object function (B,C){if(B&&B.$family&&B.uid){return B}var A=$type(B);return($[A])?$[A](B,C,this.document):null} has no method 'noConflict' I tried the given solution below. • Wordpress > Custom wp-archives list by year and category with post count in sidebar

  So I have been trying to add a custom sidebar archives section to this Wordpress Theme. I am trying to get two separate yearly archive sections, one for category A and one for category B. I need to get a post count and display it as well, to the left of "articles". This is the format I have been trying to get in the sidebar: Category 1 2010 - 5 articles 2009 - 4 articles 2008 - 6 articles 2007 - 5 articles Category 2 2010 - 8 articles 2009 - 3 articles 2008 - 7 articles 2007 - 5 articles This code is pulling the yearly archive, but the links to the yearly archives do not filter by category. However, if Category 1 does not have posts in 2008, 2008 would not show. So I feel like I am really close, but there is something wrong here in the code. I have also been unsuccessful in pulling the post count for the year/category either.
