• ImageMagick failing to convert to JPG

  Hi: We recently installed the latest version of ImageMagick onto our Linux server. I seem to be having issues performing the most basic of tasks. I am running this command line: /usr/bin/convert /location/to/source/design.ai /location/to/save/output.jpg Unfortunatly is saves design.jpg as an illustrator file (if I rename the file to output.ai it opens). Even if I do this: /usr/bin/convert /location/to/source/design.ai -rotate 90 /location/to/save/design.jpg It rotates the file and saves again as an illustrator document. This happens with all filetypes (e.g. png, bmp, etc...) It appears ImageMagick cannot figure out what I want it converted to and just saves as the same file type. Any ideas on fixing this? Escape character is '^]'. 220 mindinscription.net ESMTP Postfix (Ubuntu) quit 221 2.0.0 Bye Connection closed by foreign host. Is this very bad? how to protect port 25 from malicious attackers? I've already set up a firewall, but not very sure what to do in this case. Basically I'd like to use this server to only send emails as alert messages, not receiving any external emails.   I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.2 and have been handed a couple of old files that need to be extracted. Old backups or finances or bills I believe. They are RAR files, and password protected. Is there a way to extract the hash from these files so I can feed it into John The Ripper or Cain and Abel? Edit I have downloaded cRARk, but unfortunately nothing I have (SimplyRAR, RAR Expander, The Unarchiver) will extract it without a password. Can someone verify that I'm crazy and there is no password on the Mac version?

• Set up internal domain to use external SMTP in Exchange 2007

  I'm moving to Google Apps and have setup dual-delivery. Everything is fine, but for mail sent internally (from [email protected] to [email protected]), Exchange is not using the send connectors I have pointing to Google's servers. I believe my question is similar to this question: How to force internal email through an smtp connector in exchange 2007 Again, if a user is connected to the Exchange server and tries to send to [email protected] it works just fine, but I cannot seem to force *@mydomain.com to route correctly. This should be a fairly simple, but according to this: google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Apps/thread?tid=30b6ad03baa57289&hl=en (can't post two links due to spam prevention) It does not seem possible. Any ideas?

• Restricting permissions to individual documents on SharePoint

  Here's what I'm trying to do: I would like to create a list of documents on a site in my company's SharePoint site. Each document should have specific user's permissions to view and edit it. For example: The list is for performance reports. John has his out there called "John_PR_09.docx". Only him and his supervisor should have permissions to view, edit, or do anything to it. And then another employee has hers out there with permissions for only her and her supervisor, and so on... I have tested this out with a document that I removed the groups and users from (since they inherit permissions from it's parent) and only gave my user account permissions to. I then asked someone else to try and open and she could, she even wrote "TEST" on the document and saved it. What am I doing wrong? I thought I stopped it from inheriting permissions from it's parent and only gave myself rights to edit it.

• Clients not recognizing secondary LDAP groups?

  I'm having an issue where users who are members of secondary groups in LDAP are not being recognized as members of that group by the client. In this case, user jdoe is not being recognized as a member of the projects group. On the client, getent group shows: projects:*:20001:1001,1002,1003,1004,1005,1006 and getent passwd shows: jdoe:x:1003:10003:John Doe:/home/jdoe:/bin/bash But if I log in to the client as jdoe, and run id, I get: uid=1003(jdoe) gid=10003(jdoe) groups=24(cdrom),25(floppy),29(audio),44(video),46(plugdev),10003(jdoe) It recognizes jdoe's primary group, and the secondary groups that are appended by the client to all LDAP users, but the LDAP secondary groups are not in the list. We can see that jdoe's id is in the projects group, so why is the projects group not showing when jdoe runs the id command? The group objects are basic posixGroup entries, with a memberUid attribute for each of its members. We are using OpenLDAP on Ubuntu 10.04 server and clients.

Let's say my site is www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com and each customer has urls like this www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/frances www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/eden www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/john And a customer has a domain called widgets.com Is it actually possible domain widgets.com to go to my site somehow and have HASHES on the URL still work (my site makes use of hashes for AJAX queries). • How do you cache web pages with a personalized header using caching reverse proxy such as Squid, Var

  Pretty much every page of my website is dynamically generated. However they don't change that frequently (kinda similar to a forum page). So I'd like to cache them using a caching reverse proxy such as Squid, varnish or Nginx. The problem is that for my logged-in users, each of them will see a personalized header saying "Welcome John Doe. Logout" on the upper right corner of the page (just like serverfault). While users who aren't logged in will see a header that says "Login" instead. So basically even though every user will see the same page in general, they all slightly different version due to that personalized header. Is there any way so that I can cache the "main" part of the page and serve it from cache while generate the personalized header dynamically for each individual user? This must be a very common problem. How is it solved in general?

• Printer options follow Office documents

  One person (John) creates an Office document, and prints this document to his HP printer which is using HP Universal Printing PS (v4.7) driver. He has got Job Storage (Personal job) enabled for this printer, with custom username and a personal PIN. He later sends this document in an e-mail to his colleagues. Another person (Anne) opens the document, and tries to print the document to her HP printer (also using HP Universal Printing driver), but is not able to fetch it on the printer. The Job Storage options from Johns computer follows the Office Excel document, so Anne has to change this manually to her username and her PIN before she can print. What on earth is causing this, and how do we fix it?

• Is there a way to have customised text instead of subject in Thunderbird's inbox list?

  I am getting a lot of informational emails like "You've got a new message from ..." or "Notification of Donation Received", which often do not contain any information in the subject so that I have to open the email to see who sent the message or who donated which amount. I'd love to be able to make TB parse incoming emails and then display something interesting instead of the original subject, e.g. by defining a regular expression pattern. I know how to write regular expressions, but I do not know whether there is a way or an addon to modify the displayed text in the messages view. EDIT for clarification: I would like donation notifications from Paypal not to be displayed as original Notification of Donation Received but rather Paypal: John Doe has donated 50$

The new desired location is /mysites. From what I found in the documentation I should back them up and restore them to the new location. Here's what I've done: Backup individual site collection for user mysite stsadm -o backup -url "https://myUrl/personal/john_smith" -filename johnsmith.bkup Restore individual site collection for user mysite stsadm -o restore -url "https://myUrl/mysites/john_smith" -filename johnsmith.bkup -overwrite The result of this and the problem is when i enumerate sites i end up with this: <Site Url="https://myUrl/mysites" Owner="domainname\john.smith" ContentDatabase="WSS_Content_MySites" StorageUsedMB="1.6" StorageWarningMB="90000" StorageMaxMB="100000" /> it leaves off the username part of the url. and if I restore more that one they want to overwrite each other.

  Quick background: We have 40 workstations running Linux. NFS is used extensively for bulk data storage and home directories. This allows users to roam freely will relatively transparent file systems. This is an educational environment where postdocs and students have successfully pulled off a coup of sorts. All have gained root on their individual workstations by grooming a technophobic PI who thinks IT people are evil. If I so much as suggest chroot or sudo restrictions, I'll find myself working out of a broom closet.   The mini-ITX computer will be a general use computer. Not a dedicated HTPC or Home server. In general use mini-ITX cases, what PSU form factor is usually used? I understand that some case manufacturers provide custom built PSU to fit their case but I prefer to get the ones that use a PSU that follows standard form factors in case a replacement is needed. For example, what PSU fits into general purpose cases by Lian Li? Am I to assume that smaller PSU form factors also affect the possible maximum output?

• Want to add a new domain to my postfix, but mails not delivered (mail look back to myself)

  Hi everybody, My host relay is working but I was aksed to add a new domain (like external.example.com). I have added in main.cf the new fqdn in relay_domains relay_domains = $mydestination, example.com,example2.com, externe.example.com and in transport example.com smtp:[192.168.1.22] example2.com smtp:[192.168.1.22] external.example.com smtp:[192.168.1.22] Mails sent to users with example.com and example2.com domain are well delivered. But for mails to external.example.com i got this message Mar 17 16:47:52 relayhost postfix/smtp[11948]: 754E1876A01: to=<[email protected]>, relay=relayhost2.example.com[80.81.82.83]:25, delay=19555, delays=19525/0.01/30/0, dsn=4.4.6, status=deferred (mail for external.example.com loops back to myself) I read another Q/A about the same issue right here, but it's not helping me. • Can I build or test a computer without a case?

  I am in the process of building a really nice new PC right now. It's going to have a nice Lian Li case with the internals powder coated black and all the wires will be sleeved. So my problem is I am getting parts in a couple days but my case will not be completed for about a month because it is on back order plus time to powder coat it. I am purchasing many of m y parts from newegg.com and they claim you must return any dead parts within 30 days or the invoice for there warranty to replace bad parts. So is it possible for me to set up the PC without a case just to test that the main parts are working correctly within the timeframe I am allowed? If this is possible, how do I deal with turning the system on/off without a powere button? Or is therer one on a motherboard? Thanks for any tips/advice

  I have a exim4 setup as SMTP. My user naming schema is to name all mail users for this server as m001, m002, m003, ... and then redirect to a real e-mail address with virtual domains. How can I allow my users to authenticate with exim to send mail using either their system user name (m001) or the email address ([email protected])? User login information for m001 are stored in linux system files (passwd, shadow). They are linked thru entries in a virtual address table for each domain that this server can serve: # /etc/exim4/virtual/example.com m001: [email protected] m002: [email protected] m003: [email protected] The same can be applied to qpopper ?

I couldn't vent it out at him because that would be wrong, so I'm going to vent it out here - because obviously (that's the right thing to do...). Anyway, for all the people that practice in this disgusting behaviour - the pronunciation is.... (Hmmm - anyone know phonetics?) - "Li-nix" Note: Despite hating him for this - he is otherwise a very nice (but sometimes rather annoying) person. Now... to formally make this a "question" - Could someone write the phonetics for pronouncing "Linux", and also the notorious "Lye-nix", so I can make a note of it for future ventings? I think this is right... L?n?x, NOT L?n?x. ...or perhaps... L?n?x, NOT L?n?x* Can someone confirm the correct phonetics? (Listen to Linus on the matter).

• How would one run a task sequence within a task sequence in SCCM 2012 SP1

  A Shining Example: Inside all of my task sequences I have a group that installs driver packages conditionally based on computer model: And of course, this list does nothing but grow. The fact that it grows isn't a big deal, what is a big deal is that every time it changes I have to manually copy and paste those changes across every task sequence I have, which of course leaves huge room for human error. The same goes for other groups of tasks that are common across task sequences. Looking for a solution where I could centrally manage these tasks, be it link other task sequences to a group within another task sequence, or create a separate task sequence and link to that. I came across a solution by John Marcum (SCCM MVP) that mentioned this ability, but this was a while ago and I can't find the link to it anymore to see if it's even still being updated/maintained, but I'm looking for more of a free solution, or even using Powershell or the ConfigMgr SDK is fine with me, I'm no stranger to either. • Organizing files relationally in Windows 7?

  I just took a new job as a policy analyst, and after even one week keeping track of hundreds of files- lawsuits, legislation, letters, etc- in Windows 7 is proving difficult. In my last job I was a database architect and I helped build Linux based servers to track files among an entire department, however there is no way for me to do that at this time in this job. Is there any way to track files/indices/locations/tags/themes and store them in some kind of RDBMS system, instead of storing the files in folders that only allow for flat and fixed storage? For example, if I have a file that deals with: ELID organization Appeals court John Smith It really is inconvenient to have to decide which one of these tags to create into a folder and place the file into it, when it falls under all the categories. Even if I could place tags the way you can in Stack Exchange on files, it would solve a lot of heart ache.

  I'm looking for a solution that allows multiple persons to put plan and notify their vacation by putting it in their electronic calendar and invite a dedicated "robot" email. On the other side I should be able to get a quick overview of the vacation for each person and do a print out that allows me to put it on a board. Example: John puts his winter vacation for week 7 into his calendar and invite [email protected]. Ben does the same thing for week 4 and 5 and invites [email protected]. Dilbert host the [email protected] and prints out and overview for the next 3 months. Each person's vacation is either stated by name or/and color on the print out. I would like to do the thing with standard business software like Outlook 2010 without installing too many softwares. But at the same time it should be easy and quick to make the print outs without too much fiddling Am I dreaming ?

• When an Excel file is locked on a network share, how does it know who locked the file?

  We are using Excel 2010 and sometimes users are working from a network share. When a user on the network opens the file in Excel, the file is locked for editing - this is the expected behavior. When another user tries to open the file, Excel gives the message [filename] is locked for editing by 'John Doe' The problem is, the user is always this one particular user's name, no matter who actually has the file open. Where does Excel get this info, and how do I fix it? Update: I should have mentioned that in Excel, under Options (General), the correct user names have been set up. That is not where this user name is coming from.

• Install Rails on linux [migrated]

  I am trying to install Ruby on Rails. and i have followed the following link for the install https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-install-ruby-on-rails-on-ubuntu-12-04-lts-precise-pangolin-with-rvm. This link was helpful i was able to run it, and everything, however as soon has i restarted the computer i then go into my apps and run it again with rails s and this message occurs. The program 'rails' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install rails But work before, what should i do, do i need to set the path of somesort?? I am not that great in linux so bear with me. I am using linux ubuntu 12.04 desktop and my user is john Thanks in advance
