• getResourceAsStream returns HttpInputStream not of the entire file

  Hi, I am having a web application with an applet which will copy a file packed witht the applet to the client machine. When I deploy it to webserver and use: InputStream in = getClass().getResourceAsStream("filename") ; The in.available() always return a size of 8192 bytes for every file I tried, which means the file is corrupted when it is copied to the client computer. The InputStream is of type HttpInputStream (sun.net.protocol.http.HttpUrlConnection$httpInputStream). But while I test applet in applet viewer, the files are copied fine, with the InputStream returned is of type BufferedInputStream, which has the file's byte sizes. I guess that when getResourceStream in file system the BufferedInputStream will be used and when at http protocol, HttpInputStream will be used. How will I copy the file completely, is there a size limited for HttpInputStream? Thanks a lot.

• Set height of Flex Accordion to height of tallest child

  By default the height of an Flex Accordion container is the height of the initially selected child. I'd like to be able to set the height to the tallest child so that no resizing or scrolling is necessary when other children are selected. I do not want to use the resizeToContent property. I want the size of the container to stay constant no matter what child is selected. My current thought is to extend the accordion class setting the creation policy to "all" and then override the measure function to loop through all the children and find the tallest one and use that for the height. This seems a little kludgy though, so I'd like to know if there is a better approach. Ultimately my question is: is there a way to set the size of an accordion container such that the container never resizes and scoll bars are never necessary to display any of the children?

• Problem saving Text file in database using Hibernate

  I'm having a problem saving large text files to MySQL database. If the text file size is around 5KB it successfully saves. If file is 148KB then I get this error from Hibernate: org.hibernate.exception.DataException: Could not execute JDBC batch update These is the SQL shows by Hibernate: Hibernate: insert into file_table (ID,FILE) values (?, ?) And in my hibernate file I'm using java.sql.Blob to store the file. Anyone knows why it fails to save a file size of 148KB but if I open that same file, cut it down to around 5KB, it will successfully save it? I thought the default limit was I think 2GB? This is weird. Thanks.

  I have an app with about 15 threads. Most do mundane tasks and sleep most of their lives. Others collect information and cache it in hashmaps. The hashmaps grow to a moderate size and level out. The number of keys and size of value remains constant, but the contents of the values changes (at 33 keys per second average). When I start my app, I notice the garbage collection interval goes from minutes to once per second, and the amount of garbage is 700k+ each time. In fact as I was writing this, it caused my phone to reboot with an error "Referencetable Overflow". Here's my question: Are there any tricks to identifying which threads are producing the garbage, or even finding out more about what garbage they are producing?

• ImageMagick help -- need to change DPI

  I have a 1000x1000 300dpi image that I need to convert to a 100x100 96dpi thumbnail. How do I do this in ImageMagick? I'm after the smallest possible file size at the highest possible quality. Doing something like this: convert myimage.png -quality 100 -resize 100 PNG8:mynewimage.png .... does change the dimension, but still maintains the DPI. If I can get this to change to 96dpi, I should get a smaller file size. I've tried -density, etc., but can't seem to make them work for me. Maybe I put the commands in the wrong order or passed the wrong parameters. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This is sent to an Apache server that has the max request size on the default 8190 bytes. My question is what is happening at the "s.sendall()" part? Obviously the entire body cannot be sent at once and I'm guessing it is reduced by way of the modulus operator. I don't know how it works in Python, though. Can anyone explain? Thanks.

  First problem: You have 400 pixels width to go on, and need to fit some text within that constraint as large as possible (thus, the text shall use that amount of space). Throw in a new constraint: If the text is just "A", then it shall not zoom this above 100 pixels (or some specific font size). Then, a final situation: Linebreaks. Fit some text in the largest possible way within e.g. 400 x 150 pixels. An obvious way is to simply start with point 1, and then increase until you can't fit it anymore. This would work for all three problems, but would be very crude. The fitting of a single line within bounds could be done by writing it with some fixed point size, check the resulting pixel bounds of the text, and then simply scale it with a transform (the text scales properly too then, check out TransformUI). Any ideas of other ways to attack this would be greatly appreciated!

• Jscrollpane causese text to disappear on internet explorer

  I currently have my web.xml configured to catch 404s and send them to my spring controller which will perform a search given the original URL request. The problem lies in resolving the view's path to the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Using a logger in my JBoss setup, I can see that when I test this search controller by going to a non-existent page, the following occurs: Server can't find the request Request is sent to 404 error page (in this case my search controller) Search controller performs search Search controller returns view name (for this illustration, we'll assume test.jsp is returned) Based off of server logger, I can see that org.springframework.web.servlet.view.JstlView is initialized once my search controller returns the view name (so I can assume it is being picked up correctly by the InternalResourceViewResolver) Server attempts to return content to browser resulting in a 404! A couple things confuse me about this: I'm not 100% sure why this isn't resolving when test.jsp clearly exists under the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Even if there was some other problem, why would this result in a 404? Shouldn't a 404 error page that results in another 404 theoretically create an infinite loop? Thanks for any help or pointers! • Pros and cons of keeping metadata in image thumbnails

  I am working on optimizing site load speed for a few moderately high traffic sites. Some quick observations show that creating 40 picture thumbnails (e.g. 138x138 JPG @75% quality) results in 700 Kb total size with embedded metadata and 258 Kb with stripped metadata. Which means that roughly 60% of image size is metadata. So what would be pros and cons of removing metadata from thumbnails? Are there any regulations, e.g. you must keep author info / copyright info in the images? Any insights would be appreciated.

• Oversize cursor in Firefox form with textbox background image

  Hi all, I have a webform with background images on the textboxes to give them a nice rounded corner. In Chrome the textboxes work as expected, however, if I view the form in Firefox the cursor appears to size to the height of the image, but the text is a normal size. Is there a way to override this oversized cursor?   I have 2 arrays in 2D, where the column vectors are feature vectors. One array is of size F x A, the other of F x B, where A << B. As an example, for A = 2 and F = 3 (B can be anything): arr1 = np.array( [[1, 4], [2, 5], [3, 6]] ) arr2 = np.array( [[1, 4, 7, 10, ..], [2, 5, 8, 11, ..], [3, 6, 9, 12, ..]] ) I want to calculate the distance between arr1 and a fragment of arr2 that is of equal size (in this case, 3x2), for each possible fragment of arr2. The column vectors are independent of each other, so I believe I should calculate the distance between each column vector in arr1 and a collection of column vectors ranging from i to i + A from arr2 and take the sum of these distances (not sure though). Does numpy offer an efficient way of doing this, or will I have to take slices from the second array and, using another loop, calculate the distance between each column vector in arr1 and the corresponding column vector in the slice?

  I am getting an image from gallery in onActivityResult() through intent.getdata(). Now i get the data and set it to a bitmap, its size is 716x716 and its setting to full screen. (ImageView's width and height is set to wrap content). Now i created another bitmap after scaling the original through Bitmap.CreateScaledBitmap(orgBitmap,30,30,false); After this, i make sure these things(width,height n size) and they happen as they should be but the problem is that the image is still taking the full screen... rather it should only take 30dp x 30dp. I think it should be possible with something like this: decoratedStackPanel.getElement().getStyle().setProperty("fontSize", "12pt"); However, "fontSize" is not valid name for property and I didn't find way how to get all element's properties. Therefore, I don't know correct property name. Any ideas? Please, don't post about inheriting widget or writing custom CSS. I like default one but the font size. This should be possible afaik.

I have made changes in the html file for the compact display of the image by defining "max-height" and "max-width". But i want to resize the image file on upload. The image file may have a maximum width of 100px and maximum height of 150px. The image proportions must be constrained. That is, the image may be smaller than the above dimensions, but, it should not exceed the limit. How can I make this possible?? Thanks in advance :) blasteralfred..
