  • Why is Transmission constantly active?

    I am using Transmission (1.92, the latest version) in Mac OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard, and have noticed that, without any torrents (at all, not even paused), Little Snitch reports constant activity from it. What's going on? I'd always assumed when I saw that with Torrents loaded but inactive, it had to do with the DHT, or some such kind of scanning activity. But what could it be doing when no torrents are loaded at all?

    i have made a live boot usb using UnetBootIn tool for ubuntu desktop 9.10 , i have windows xp sp2 installed as primary os and i want to make a partition for ubuntu but when i try to boot it via usb , it just goes to boot menu of ubuntu , then i enter the default type for installation after that nothing happens , just the ubuntu logo showed up and just that nothing happens after that , i can try the simpler task also i.e.via cd install but i want to know what's not working with this usb boot method Thnx n Advance

I am using the following command on Mac, sudo scp ~/.ssh/mykey.rsa [email protected], there is no output from Mac command line. I am not sure whether the scp is success or not.   • CPU Test Similar to Memtest?

    I need an easy way to do system stability tests. I have come to rely on Prime95 which does a fantastic job of proving stability (or instability) very quickly; but it requires an OS installed. I would like something like Prime95 that stresses both CPU and RAM (maybe PCI-Ex bus also?) but runs in a nice bootable binary like Memtest86+ does, so I can boot it from a thumbdrive. Does such a thing exist?

I have been trying to capture http traffic but if apply following filters, the wireshark gives results not required http result: it only show ssdp traffic http (!udp) result: it does not show any thing http (!http contains ssdp) result: it does not show any thing http && tcp result: it does not show any thing http (!udp.dstport == 1900) result: it does not show any thing tcp result: it shows tcp traffic but i cannot reach to my required http messages please guide what may be the problem, as the same thing is happening when i run it on a different OS (windows7) on my laptop

I deleted the existing partition on the laptop and wanted to created a new one were to install the OS but cant because everything in the partition tab for the drive is grayed out. Basically, I can't do anything until I unlock the partition So the question is: how to unlock a partition from disk utility or the command line.

  • Macports, Fink, Hombrew: Background Processes?

    If I install a package manager such as Macports, Fink or Homebrew, how does it affect the startup and running of my system? It seems like the answer should be "Not at all when you're not using them" but I'm worried that they will break other software (like Mono) or run background processes. Is my fear totally misplaced? Are they just programs like any others? They sure seem to put their footprint around the OS in quite a few places.

I was trying to install git on a Linux machine today, and encountered some problems: Not knowing the version of the installed OS, I've opened the /proc/version file which said: Linux version 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp ([email protected]) (gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-3)) #1 SMP Thu Aug 17 17:57:31 EDT 2006 Then, as written in the git documents (http://git-scm.com/download/linux), I assumed I could use the yum install git command for Fedora, but got the following result.     I understand that a single Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition license includes 4 free guest virtual machines using Hyper-V. Suppose I do that, and have 4 VMs running, but then want to expand. If I separately purchase additional Windows licenses, or I consolidate a machine with an existing license, can I spin up a 5th, 6th virtual machine (presuming there are enough CPU/RAM resources on the host)? Or does the host OS limit the number of virtual machines allowed?

  • connecting two routers

    I have two routers, both wireless, that i wish to connect together. As it stands Router A is connected via a micro filter into the phone line which i access the web wirelessly. What I want to achieve is to connect Router B to A so I can hardwire My TV and Sky (cable) Box into B and simultaneously browse the web wirelessly via router A. Is this possible? If so I'd appreciate the help on this one to save me running 50ft cable under the carpet!!! PS I'm using Mac OS.
