  • Is it possible to make an alarm using NSTimer and UIDatepicker?

    I have an app which plays some ambient noises. I have fitted it with a sleep timer and a local notifier which work fine, but the notifier will only fire when the app is in the background. I would like to be able to fit a standard alarm clock that the user can set using the date picker, ie, the user picks 07:15 am on the date picker and this triggers a sound being played at this time. Can this be done?

  • When opening any file in excel, a 1 is added to ther name, and the default is to save a new copy…

    Ok... I've searched a lot for this, but it's not an easy question to search for! When I open any files (xls, or xlsx) in Excel 2007, excel acts like it's a read only file, essentially creating a new file with the name plus a 1 on the end... Eg. I open NewDoc.xlsx Excel opens it as NewDoc1.xlsx and the save button brings up the save as dialogue in my default folder. Does anyone know how to set it back to allowing me to open, edit and save a document without having to browse to the original document and save over it!? My immediate thought was access permissions, but the file is in a network folder with my user given Full Control, I also tried creating a new file in that folder, and also on my local machine just in case - same result. To make it even stranger, if I browse to the original file using the save as dialogue, it will let me save over the original, without any further prompts.

  • How to avoid strange characters before the request in firefox?

    Hi, on a website i'm currently developing I'm using jquery to do all sort of magic things :-) In firefox however, when I load jquery 1.4.2 there are sometimes funny characters in front of the request. You can see the strangers characters in this screenshot (thank you firebug). In safari, Chrome and IE these funny characters don't appear, jquery is loading fine in those browsers. Why are those characters appearing and how can I remove them? Thanks!!

  • Should I be using Windows Live Mail or Outlook?

    I have been using Windows Live Mail now for a few years, and like the interface, ect ect. Just having a clear out of my domains emails, and think I should set up the other accounts properly. I have Outlook (using 2010 beta), so I thought maybe I should use it? Can anyone give me reasons for and against both bits of software? I did look for some comparisons between the two, but can't find much. Plus I always value up to date information. Bit more background: Using 1 Hotmail and 5 IMAP accounts (possibly more). Use a Windows Mobile. Any way I can sync the calendar and tasks OTA to my hotmail and back down to outlook? I know this is probably more a discussion question (sorry), but I would argue that it can be answered, as it is a question relating to what I myself, in my circumstances would be best.     So I am looking for a nice list of NHibernate events that actually describes when they are fired, in a typical scenario. IE something like PreUpdateEventListener - Fires when an object that is already persistent is changing I currently just rifle through the source and try to figure it out, but it's kinda painful, and I figure that someone must have done this already at some point.

  • Why Windows Media Center (Vista 32-bit) unable to record TV Series?

    I can record individual shows just fine, but trying to setup the recording of a Series throws an error (something like, "unable to schedule, try restarting Media Center", pops up in the bottom right of the screen). Trying to access the "Other Showings" menu causes Media Center to crash ("check for a solution online" dialog comes up). The machine is a fresh reinstall of 32-bit Windows Vista from the HP recovery CDs, plus all Microsoft updates and service packs. Hardware: HP s3220n, AMD X2 5000+, 2GB RAM, 300GB free space on disk. Media Center came bundled. The "Media Center update for Vista" failed to install (it says, not appropriate for my computer). Any ideas? Thanks

    Im just wondering how i use xmlencoder to serialize ArrayList where foo is my own made class. Do i have to do anything in particular, ie define my own xml structure first and then call toString on each value in my list and write it out? Can anyone point me to a good tutorial? http://java.sun.com/products/jfc/tsc/articles/persistence4/ Thats what i have been looking at but it doesnt seem to mention what to do with non library classes.   • Unknown margin being added to a footer in IE6 + 7

    So yeah, like I said, I've spent a few hours trying to fix this bug in the footer that add's an extra 20-30px on to the bottom of the page in IE6 and 7. I've currently set all bottom margins to 0 so as to find what's causing it, I then scoured ie developer tools but came up empty.   • WindowsXP+7 on C:/D: :moving the System Partition

    I had installed Windows 7 on a separate 20gig partition, and I'm absolutely loving it! Plus I can now dual-boot, with my original WinXP residing on the C: drive. But I'm running out of disk space on D:, and I was able to shrink C: and expand D:. But now I would like to make D: not just a Boot Partition, but an Active System Partition, without losing my ability to boot into Windows 7 (since it was created on a separate D: partition, not the current Active System C: Partition). Any advice?

  • Why isnt int pow(int base, int exponent) in the standard C++ libraries?

    I feel like I must just be unable to find it. Is there any reason that the c++ pow function does not implement the "power" function for anything except floats and doubles? I know the implementation is trivial, I just feel like I'm doing work that should be in a standard library. A robust power function (ie handles overflow in some consistent, explicit way) is not fun to write.

  • What lightweight solution can you recommend to stream MP3 files?

    Hi there, I need to stream MP3 files to a client running Flash. Streaming is the key here, no progressive downloads allowed. What free server can you recommend? I know Red5 but it seems a bit overkill for our needs (basic MP3 streaming). Anything more lightweight? Our Webserver runs Linux and Apache and we can install stuff there as long as it doesn't bog down the machine. Plus there is Perl and PHP although I don't think this will help for streaming, right? Thank you!
