  • ASP.MVC 1.0 complex ViewModel not populating on Action

    - by Graham
    Hi, I'm 3 days into learning MVC for a new project and i've managed to stumble my way over the multitude of issues I've come across - mainly about something as simple as moving data to a view and back into the controller in a type-safe (and manageable) manner. This is the latest. I've seen this reported before but nothing advised has seemed to work. I have a complex view model: public class IndexViewModel : ApplicationViewModel { public SearchFragment Search { get; private set; } public IndexViewModel() { this.Search = new SearchFragment(); } } public class SearchFragment { public string ItemId { get; set; } public string Identifier { get; set; } } This maps to (the main Index page): %@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<IndexViewModel>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <% Html.BeginForm("Search", AvailableControllers.Search, FormMethod.Post); %> <div id="search"> <% Html.RenderPartial("SearchControl", Model.Search); %> </div> <% Html.EndForm(); %> </asp:Content> and a UserControl: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<SearchFragment>" %> <p> <label for="itemId"> <%= Html.Resource("ItemId") %></label> <%= Html.TextBox("itemId", Model.ItemId)%> </p> <p> <label for="title"> <%= Html.Resource("Title") %></label> <%= Html.TextBox("identifier", Model.Identifier)%> </p> <p> <input type="submit" value="<%= Html.Resource("Search") %>" name="search" /> </p> This is returned to the following method: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Search(IndexViewModel viewModel) { .... } My problem is that when the view model is rehydrated from the View into the ViewModel, the SearchFragment elements are null. I suspect this is because the default model binder doesn't realise the HTML ItemId and Identifier elements rendered inline in the View map to the SearchFragment class. When I have two extra properties (ItemId and Identifier) in the IndexViewModel, the values are bound correctly. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, I must use the SearchFragment as I need this to strongly type the Search UserControl... as the control can be used anywhere it can operate under any parent view. I really don't want to make it use "magic strings". There's too much of that going on already IMO. I've tried prefixing the HTML with "Search." in the hope that the model binder would recognise "Search.ItemId" and match to the IndexViewModel "Search" property and the ItemId within it, but this doesn't work. I fear I'm going to have to write my own ModelBinder to do this, but surely this must be something you can do out-of-the-box?? Failing that is there any other suggestions (or link to someone who has already done this?) Here's hoping....

  • IRC-Bot in Ruby: PRIVMSG sends only last word of string

    - by Marius Schuller
    I'm on learning ruby and I took a already done IRC-Bot from the web which just connects to a given serven and not much more. Then I added some features (in my case I try to implement a voting where to eat lunch). Now these work fine so far but I don't know if the ruby script does something wrong or there is something wrong with the IRC-server. On the one I tested the Bot it worked well, giving an output like this: 09:14 < Wayne> !EssNA 09:14 < EssNABot> [-=EssNA-Vote=-] 09:14 < EssNABot> Options are: 09:14 < EssNABot> McDonalds. 0 09:14 < EssNABot> Currywurst 0 09:14 < EssNABot> Hendl..... 0 09:14 < EssNABot> Salatbar.. 0 09:14 < EssNABot> Griechr... 0 09:14 < EssNABot> Metzger... 0 09:14 < EssNABot> Merowinger 0 09:14 < EssNABot> Lidl...... 0 09:14 < EssNABot> Voting time is 600 seconds. The bot itself sees that like this: --> PRIVMSG #test [-=EssNA-Vote=-] --> PRIVMSG #test Options are: --> PRIVMSG #test McDonalds. 0 --> PRIVMSG #test Currywurst 0 --> PRIVMSG #test Hendl..... 0 --> PRIVMSG #test Salatbar.. 0 --> PRIVMSG #test Griechr... 0 --> PRIVMSG #test Metzger... 0 --> PRIVMSG #test Merowinger 0 --> PRIVMSG #test Lidl...... 0 --> PRIVMSG #test Voting time is 600 seconds. But on the irc which it should run on if its done the output users will see looks like this: 09:14 < Wayne> !EssNA 09:14 < EssNABot> [-=EssNA-Vote=-] 09:14 < EssNABot> are: 09:14 < EssNABot> 0 09:14 < EssNABot> 0 09:14 < EssNABot> 0 09:14 < EssNABot> 0 09:14 < EssNABot> 0 09:14 < EssNABot> 0 09:14 < EssNABot> 0 09:14 < EssNABot> 0 09:14 < EssNABot> seconds. The output the bot gives is the same as on the server on which the output for users works. Seems to me that the problem is the IRC-server, maybe someone can point me in the right direction? Yours, Marius

  • Do you have suggestions for these assembly mnemonics?

    - by Noctis Skytower
    Greetings! Last semester in college, my teacher in the Computer Languages class taught us the esoteric language named Whitespace. In the interest of learning the language better with a very busy schedule (midterms), I wrote an interpreter and assembler in Python. An assembly language was designed to facilitate writing programs easily, and a sample program was written with the given assembly mnemonics. Now that it is summer, a new project has begun with the objective being to rewrite the interpreter and assembler for Whitespace 0.3, with further developments coming afterwards. Since there is so much extra time than before to work on its design, you are presented here with an outline that provides a revised set of mnemonics for the assembly language. This post is marked as a wiki for their discussion. Have you ever had any experience with assembly languages in the past? Were there some instructions that you thought should have been renamed to something different? Did you find yourself thinking outside the box and with a different paradigm than in which the mnemonics were named? If you can answer yes to any of those questions, you are most welcome here. Subjective answers are appreciated! Stack Manipulation (IMP: [Space]) Stack manipulation is one of the more common operations, hence the shortness of the IMP [Space]. There are four stack instructions. hold N Push the number onto the stack copy Duplicate the top item on the stack copy N Copy the nth item on the stack (given by the argument) onto the top of the stack swap Swap the top two items on the stack drop Discard the top item on the stack drop N Slide n items off the stack, keeping the top item Arithmetic (IMP: [Tab][Space]) Arithmetic commands operate on the top two items on the stack, and replace them with the result of the operation. The first item pushed is considered to be left of the operator. add Addition sub Subtraction mul Multiplication div Integer Division mod Modulo Heap Access (IMP: [Tab][Tab]) Heap access commands look at the stack to find the address of items to be stored or retrieved. To store an item, push the address then the value and run the store command. To retrieve an item, push the address and run the retrieve command, which will place the value stored in the location at the top of the stack. save Store load Retrieve Flow Control (IMP: [LF]) Flow control operations are also common. Subroutines are marked by labels, as well as the targets of conditional and unconditional jumps, by which loops can be implemented. Programs must be ended by means of [LF][LF][LF] so that the interpreter can exit cleanly. L: Mark a location in the program call L Call a subroutine goto L Jump unconditionally to a label if=0 L Jump to a label if the top of the stack is zero if<0 L Jump to a label if the top of the stack is negative return End a subroutine and transfer control back to the caller halt End the program I/O (IMP: [Tab][LF]) Finally, we need to be able to interact with the user. There are IO instructions for reading and writing numbers and individual characters. With these, string manipulation routines can be written. The read instructions take the heap address in which to store the result from the top of the stack. print chr Output the character at the top of the stack print int Output the number at the top of the stack input chr Read a character and place it in the location given by the top of the stack input int Read a number and place it in the location given by the top of the stack Question: How would you redesign, rewrite, or rename the previous mnemonics and for what reasons?

  • java if else statement

    - by user554320
    I am a new student who is trying to use java if else statements at the moment. I have attched my class and i need to say if this code get 0 errors for all 4 errors(error11, error12, error13 and error14), need to display the text "Answer". This code was working without the if else statements and there are 2 errors in those 2 lines. Please explain me how to do it? public static void deltaR() { int x; int x11, x12, x13, x14; int x21, x22, x23, x24; //inputs double w10, w11, w12;//weights for first neuron int d11, d12, d13, d14;//desired output for first neuron double net11, net12, net13, net14;//sum of weights times inputs int y11, y12, y13, y14;//outputs int error11, error12, error13, error14;//error //double w20, w21, w22;//weights for second neuron //int d21, d22, d23, d24;//desired output for second neuron //double net21, net22, net23, net24;//sum of weights times input //int y21, y22, y23, y24;//outputs //int error21, error22, error23, error24;//error if (error11 = 0, error12 = 0, error13 = 0, error14 = 0) { System.out.println("Answer"); } else if (error11 != 0, error12 != 0, error13 != 0, error14 != 0) { double coe=0.5;//learning coefficient x=1; x11=0; x12=0; x13=1; x14=1; x21=0; x22=1; x23=0; x24=1; d11= 0; d12= 1; d13= 0; d14= 1; w10=0.5; w11=-1; w12=1.5; net11=(x*w10 + x11*w11 + x21*w12); net12=(x*w10 + x12*w11 + x22*w12); net13=(x*w10 + x13*w11 + x23*w12); net14=(x*w10 + x14*w11 + x24*w12); if (net11>=0) y11=1; else y11=0; if (net12>=0) y12=1; else y12=0; if (net13>=0) y13=1; else y13=0; if (net14>=0) y14=1; else y14=0; error11=(d11-y11); error12=(d12-y12); error13=(d13-y13); error14=(d14-y14); System.out.println("net value 1: "+net11); System.out.println("net value 2: "+net12); System.out.println("net value 3: "+net13); System.out.println("net value 4: "+net14); System.out.println("output 1: "+y11); System.out.println("output 2: "+y12); System.out.println("output 3: "+y13); System.out.println("output 4: "+y14); System.out.println("error1: "+error11); System.out.println("error2: "+error12); System.out.println("error3: "+error13); System.out.println("error4: "+error14); } } }

  • Load balancing using Mina example with Java DSL

    - by Flame_Phoenix
    So, recently I started learning Camel. As part of the process I decided to go through all the examples (listed HERE and available when you DOWNLOAD the package with all the examples and docs) and to see what I could learn. One of the examples, Load Balancing using Mina caught my attention because it uses a Mina in different JVM's and it simulates a load balancer with round robin. I have a few problems with this example. First it uses the Spring DSL, instead of the Java DSL which my project uses and which I find a lot easier to understand now (mainly also because I am used to it). So the first question: is there a version of this example using only the Java DSL instead of the Spring DSL for the routes and the beans? My second questions is code related. The description states, and I quote: Within this demo every ten seconds, a Report object is created from the Camel load balancer server. This object is sent by the Camel load balancer to a MINA server where the object is then serialized. One of the two MINA servers (localhost:9991 and localhost:9992) receives the object and enriches the message by setting the field reply of the Report object. The reply is sent back by the MINA server to the client, which then logs the reply on the console. So, from what I read, I understand that the MINA server 1 (per example) receives a report from the loadbalancer, changes it, and then it sends that report back to some invisible client. Upon checking the code, I see no client java class or XML and when I run, the server simply posts the results on the command line. Where is the client ?? What is this client? In the MINA 1server code presented here: <beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:camel="http://camel.apache.org/schema/spring" xsi:schemaLocation=" http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans.xsd http://camel.apache.org/schema/spring http://camel.apache.org/schema/spring/camel-spring.xsd"> <bean id="service" class="org.apache.camel.example.service.Reporting"/> <camelContext xmlns="http://camel.apache.org/schema/spring"> <route id="mina1"> <from uri="mina:tcp://localhost:9991"/> <setHeader headerName="minaServer"> <constant>localhost:9991</constant> </setHeader> <bean ref="service" method="updateReport"/> </route> </camelContext> </beans> I don't understand how the updateReport method magically prints the object on my console. What if I wanted to send message to a third MINA server? How would I do it? (I would have to add a new route, and send it to the URI of the 3rd server correct?) I know most of these questions may sound dumb, but I would appreciate if anyone could help me. A Java DSL version of this would really help me.

  • Data munging and data import scripting

    - by morpheous
    I need to write some scripts to carry out some tasks on my server (running Ubuntu server 8.04 TLS). The tasks are to be run periodically, so I will be running the scripts as cron jobs. I have divided the tasks into "group A" and "group B" - because (in my mind at least), they are a bit different. Task Group A import data from a file and possibly reformat it - by reformatting, I mean doing things like santizing the data, possibly normalizing it and or running calculations on 'columns' of the data Import the munged data into a database. For now, I am mostly using mySQL for the vast majority of imports - although some files will be imported into a sqlLite database. Note: The files will be mostly text files, although some of the files are in a binary format (my own proprietary format, written by a C++ application I developed). Task Group B Extract data from the database Perform calculations on the data and either insert or update tables in the database. My coding experience is is primarily as a C/C++ developer, although I have been using PHP as well for the last 2 years or so. I am from a windows background so I am still finding my feet in the linux environment. My question is this - I need to write scripts to perform the tasks I described above. Although I suppose I could write a few C++ applications to be used in the shell scripts, I think it may be better to write them in a scripting language (maybe this is a flawed assumption?). My thinking is that it would be easier to modify thins in a script - no need to rebuild etc for changes to functionality. Additionally, C++ data munging in C++ tends to involve more lines of code than "natural" scripting languages such as Perl, Python etc. Assuming that the majority of people on here agree that scripting is the way to go, herein lies my dilema. Which scripting language to use to perform the tasks above (giving my background). My gut instinct tells me that Perl (shudder) would be the most obvious choice for performing all of the above tasks. BUT (and that is a big BUT). The mere mention of Perl makes my toes curl, as I had a very, very bag experience with it a while back. The syntax seems quite unnatural to me - despite how many times I have tried to learn it - so if possible, I would really like to give it a miss. PHP (which I already know), also am not sure is a good candidate for scripting on the CLI (I have not seen many examples on how to do this etc - so I may be wrong). The last thing I must mention is that IF I have to learn a new language in order to do this, I cannot afford (time constraint) to spend more than a day, in learning the key commands/features required in order to do this (I can always learn the details of the language later, once I have actually deployed the scripts). So, which scripting language would you recommend (PHP, Python, Perl, [insert your favorite here]) - and most importantly WHY?. Or, should I just stick to writing little C++ applications that I call in a shell script?. Lastly, if you have suggested a scripting language, can you please show with a FEW lines (Perl mongers - I'm looking in your direction [nothing to cryptic!] ;) ) how I can use the language you suggested to do what I want to do. Hopefully, the lines you present will convince me that it can be done easily and elegantly in the language you suggested.

  • Getting a seg fault, having trouble with classes and variables.

    - by celestialorb
    Ok, so I'm still learning the ropes of C++ here so I apologize if this is a simple mistake. I have this class: class RunFrame : public wxFrame { public: RunFrame(); void OnKey(wxKeyEvent& keyEvent); private: // Configuration variables. const wxString *title; const wxPoint *origin; const wxSize *size; const wxColour *background; const wxColour *foreground; const wxString *placeholder; // Control variables. wxTextCtrl *command; // Event table. DECLARE_EVENT_TABLE() }; ...then in the OnKey method I have this code: void RunFrame::OnKey(wxKeyEvent& keyEvent) { // Take the key and process it. if(WXK_RETURN == keyEvent.GetKeyCode()) { bool empty = command -> IsEmpty(); } // Propogate the event through. keyEvent.Skip(); } ...but my program keeps seg faulting when it reaches the line where I attempt to call the IsEmpty method from the command variable. My question is, "Why?" In the constructor of the RunFrame class I can seemingly call methods for the command variable in the same way I'm doing so in the OnKey method...and it compiles correctly, it just seg faults on me when it attempts to execute that line. Here is the code for the constructor if necessary: RunFrame::RunFrame() : wxFrame(NULL, wxID_ANY, wxT("DEFAULT"), wxDefaultPosition, wxDefaultSize, wxBORDER_NONE) { // Create the styling constants. title = new wxString(wxT("RUN")); origin = new wxPoint(0, 0); size = new wxSize(250, 25); background = new wxColour(33, 33, 33); foreground = new wxColour(255, 255, 255); placeholder = new wxString(wxT("command")); // Set the styling for the frame. this -> SetTitle(*title); this -> SetSize(*size); // Create the panel and attach the TextControl to it. wxPanel *panel = new wxPanel(this, wxID_ANY, *origin, *size, wxBORDER_NONE); // Create the text control and attach it to the panel. command = new wxTextCtrl(panel, wxID_ANY, *placeholder, *origin, *size); // Set the styling for the text control. command -> SetBackgroundColour(*background); command -> SetForegroundColour(*foreground); // Connect the key event to the text control. command -> Connect(wxEVT_CHAR, wxKeyEventHandler(RunFrame::OnKey)); // Set the focus to the command box. command -> SetFocus(); } Thanks in advance for any help you can give! • Android Alert Dialog Extract User Choice Radio Button?

    - by kel196
    Apologies for any coding ignorance, I am a beginner and am still learning! I am creating a quiz app which reads questions off a SQL database and plots them as points on a google map. As the user clicks each point, an alert dialog appears with radio buttons to answer some question. My radiobuttons are in CustomItemizedOverlay file and when I click submit, I want to be able to send the user choice back to the database, save it and return to the user if their answer is correct. My question is this, how do I pass the user choice out once the submit button has been clicked? I tried making a global variable to read what was selected to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated! If I need to post any other code, please ask and I will do so ASAP! package uk.ac.ucl.cege.cegeg077.uceskkw; import java.util.ArrayList; import android.app.AlertDialog; import android.content.Context; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.graphics.drawable.Drawable; import android.widget.Toast; import com.google.android.maps.ItemizedOverlay; import com.google.android.maps.OverlayItem; public class CustomItemizedOverlay2 extends ItemizedOverlay<OverlayItem> { private ArrayList<OverlayItem> mapOverlays = new ArrayList<OverlayItem>(); private Context context; public CustomItemizedOverlay2(Drawable defaultMarker) { super(boundCenterBottom(defaultMarker)); } public CustomItemizedOverlay2(Drawable defaultMarker, Context context) { this(defaultMarker); this.context = context; } @Override protected OverlayItem createItem(int i) { return mapOverlays.get(i); } @Override public int size() { return mapOverlays.size(); } @Override protected boolean onTap(int index) { OverlayItem item = mapOverlays.get(index); // gets the snippet from ParseKMLAndDisplayOnMap and splits it back into // a string. final CharSequence allanswers[] = item.getSnippet().split("::"); AlertDialog.Builder dialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(context); dialog.setIcon(R.drawable.easterbunnyegg); dialog.setTitle(item.getTitle()); dialog.setSingleChoiceItems(allanswers, -1, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { Toast.makeText(context, "You have selected " + allanswers[whichButton], Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); dialog.setPositiveButton(R.string.button_submit, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { dialog.dismiss(); // int selectedPosition = ((AlertDialog) // dialog).getListView().getCheckedItemPosition(); Toast.makeText(context, "hi!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT) .show(); } }); dialog.setNegativeButton(R.string.button_close, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { dialog.dismiss(); // on cancel button action } }); AlertDialog question = dialog.create(); question.show(); return true; } public void addOverlay(OverlayItem overlay) { mapOverlays.add(overlay); this.populate(); } }

  • How to make a jQuery plugin (the right way)?

    - by macek
    I know there are jQuery cookie plugins out there, but I wanted to write one for the sake of better learning the jQuery plugin pattern. I like the separation of "work" in small, manageable functions, but I feel like I'm passing name, value, and options arguments around too much. Is there a way this can be refactored? I'm looking for snippets of code to help illustrate examples provided with in answers. Any help is appreciated. Thanks :) example usage $.cookie('foo', 'bar', {expires:7}); $.cookie('foo'); //=> bar $.cookie('foo', null); $.cookie('foo'); //=> undefined Edit: I did a little bit of work on this. You can view the revision history to see where this has come from. It still feels like more refactoring can be done to optimize the flow a bit. Any ideas? the plugin (function($){ $.cookie = function(name, value, options) { if (typeof value == 'undefined') { return get(name); } else { options = $.extend({}, $.cookie.defaults, options || {}); return (value != null) ? set(name, value, options) : unset(name, options); } }; $.cookie.defaults = { expires: null, path: '/', domain: null, secure: false }; var set = function(name, value, options){ console.log(options); return document.cookie = options_string(name, value, options); }; var get = function(name){ var cookies = {}; $.map(document.cookie.split(';'), function(pair){ var c = $.trim(pair).split('='); cookies[c[0]] = c[1]; }); return decodeURIComponent(cookies[name]); }; var unset = function(name, options){ value = ''; options.expires = -1; set(name, value, options); }; var options_string = function(name, value, options){ var pairs = [param.name(name, value)]; $.each(options, function(k,v){ pairs.push(param[k](v)); }); return $.map(pairs, function(p){ return p === null ? null : p; }).join(';'); }; var param = { name: function(name, value){ return name + "=" + encodeURIComponent(value); }, expires: function(value){ // no expiry if(value === null){ return null; } // number of days else if(typeof value == "number"){ d = new Date(); d.setTime(d.getTime() + (value * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000)); } // date object else if(typeof value == "object" && value instanceof "Date") { d = value; } return "expires=" + d.toUTCString(); }, path: function(value){ return "path="+value; }, domain: function(value){ return value === null ? null : "domain=" + value; }, secure: function(bool){ return bool ? "secure" : null; } }; })(jQuery);

  • CSS menu items flickering in IE6

    - by Quick Joe Smith
    Edit #1: I have just discovered this flicker bug affects IE8 (and therefore most likely IE7) as well. I am putting together a pure-CSS dropdown menu (mostly a learning exercise) and have hit a point in IE where the submenu items are flickering as the mouse moves around within the <li> but outside the inner <a>. • Nginx & Apache Cannot get try_files to work with permalinks

    - by tcherokee
    I have been working on this for the past two weeks not and for some reason I cannot seem to get nginx's try_files to work with my wordpress permalinks. I am hoping someone will be able to tell me where I am going wrong and also hopefully tell me if I made any major errors with my configurations as well (I am an nginx newbie... but learning :) ). • IOException during blocking network NIO in JDK 1.7

    - by Bass
    I'm just learning NIO, and here's the short example I've written to test how a blocking NIO can be interrupted: class TestBlockingNio { private static final boolean INTERRUPT_VIA_THREAD_INTERRUPT = true; /** * Prevent the socket from being GC'ed */ static Socket socket; private static SocketChannel connect(final int port) { while (true) { try { final SocketChannel channel = SocketChannel.open(new InetSocketAddress(port)); channel.configureBlocking(true); return channel; } catch (final IOException ioe) { try { Thread.sleep(1000); } catch (final InterruptedException ie) { } continue; } } } private static byte[] newBuffer(final int length) { final byte buffer[] = new byte[length]; for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) { buffer[i] = (byte) 'A'; } return buffer; } public static void main(final String args[]) throws IOException, InterruptedException { final int portNumber = 10000; new Thread("Reader") { public void run() { try { final ServerSocket serverSocket = new ServerSocket(portNumber); socket = serverSocket.accept(); /* * Fully ignore any input from the socket */ } catch (final IOException ioe) { ioe.printStackTrace(); } } }.start(); final SocketChannel channel = connect(portNumber); final Thread main = Thread.currentThread(); final Thread interruptor = new Thread("Inerruptor") { public void run() { System.out.println("Press Enter to interrupt I/O "); while (true) { try { System.in.read(); } catch (final IOException ioe) { ioe.printStackTrace(); } System.out.println("Interrupting..."); if (INTERRUPT_VIA_THREAD_INTERRUPT) { main.interrupt(); } else { try { channel.close(); } catch (final IOException ioe) { System.out.println(ioe.getMessage()); } } } } }; interruptor.setDaemon(true); interruptor.start(); final ByteBuffer buffer = ByteBuffer.allocate(32768); int i = 0; try { while (true) { buffer.clear(); buffer.put(newBuffer(buffer.capacity())); buffer.flip(); channel.write(buffer); System.out.print('X'); if (++i % 80 == 0) { System.out.println(); Thread.sleep(100); } } } catch (final ClosedByInterruptException cbie) { System.out.println("Closed via Thread.interrupt()"); } catch (final AsynchronousCloseException ace) { System.out.println("Closed via Channel.close()"); } } } In the above example, I'm writing to a SocketChannel, but noone is reading from the other side, so eventually the write operation hangs. This example works great when run by JDK-1.6, with the following output: Press Enter to interrupt I/O XXXX Interrupting... Closed via Thread.interrupt() — meaning that only 128k of data was written to the TCP socket's buffer. When run by JDK-1.7 (1.7.0_25-b15 and 1.7.0-u40-b37), however, the very same code bails out with an IOException: Press Enter to interrupt I/O XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX Exception in thread "main" java.io.IOException: Broken pipe at sun.nio.ch.FileDispatcherImpl.write0(Native Method) at sun.nio.ch.SocketDispatcher.write(SocketDispatcher.java:47) at sun.nio.ch.IOUtil.writeFromNativeBuffer(IOUtil.java:93) at sun.nio.ch.IOUtil.write(IOUtil.java:65) at sun.nio.ch.SocketChannelImpl.write(SocketChannelImpl.java:487) at com.example.TestBlockingNio.main(TestBlockingNio.java:109) Can anyone explain this different behaviour?

  • Dynamically change MYSQL query within a PHP file using jQuery .post?

    - by John
    Hi, Been trying this for quite a while now and I need help. Basically I have a PHP file that queries database and I want to change the query based on a logged in users name. What happens on my site is that a user logs on with Twitter Oauth and I can display their details (twitter username etc.). I have a database which the user has added information to and I what I would like to happen is when the user logs in with Twitter Oauth, I could use jQuery to take the users username and update the mysql query to show only the results where the user_name = that particular users name. At the moment the mysql query is: "SELECT * FROM markers WHERE user_name = 'dave'" I've tried something like: "SELECT * FROM markers WHERE user_name = '$user_name'" And elsewhere in the PHP file I have $user_name = $_POST['user_name'];. In a separate file (the one in which the user is redirected to after they log in through Twitter) I have some jQuery like this: $(document).ready(function(){ $.post('phpsqlinfo_resultb.php',{user_name:"<?PHP echo $profile_name?>"})}); $profile_name has been defined earlier on that page. I know i'm clearly doing something wrong, i'm still learning. Is there a way to achieve what I want using jQuery to post the users username to the PHP file to change the mysql query to display only the results related to the user that is logged in. I've included the PHP file with the query below: <?php // create a new XML document //$doc = domxml_new_doc('1.0'); $doc = new DomDocument('1.0'); //$root = $doc->create_element('markers'); //$root = $doc->append_child($root); $root = $doc->createElement('markers'); $root = $doc->appendChild($root); $table_id = 'marker'; $user_name = $_POST['user_name']; // Make a MySQL Connection include("phpsqlinfo_addrow.php"); $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM markers WHERE user_name = '$user_name'") or die(mysql_error()); // process one row at a time //header("Content-type: text/xml"); header('Content-type: text/xml; charset=utf-8'); while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { // add node for each row $occ = $doc->createElement($table_id); $occ = $root->appendChild($occ); $occ->setAttribute('lat', $row['lat']); $occ->setAttribute('lng', $row['lng']); $occ->setAttribute('type', $row['type']); $occ->setAttribute('user_name', utf8_encode($row['user_name'])); $occ->setAttribute('name', utf8_encode($row['name'])); $occ->setAttribute('tweet', utf8_encode($row['tweet'])); $occ->setAttribute('image', utf8_encode($row['image'])); } // while $xml_string = $doc->saveXML(); $user_name2->response; echo $xml_string; ?> This is for use with a google map mashup im trying to do. Many thanks if you can help me. If my question isn't clear enough, please say and i'll try to clarify for you. I'm sure this is a simple fix, i'm just relatively inexperienced to do it. Been at this for two days and i'm running out of time unfortunately.

  • VHDL gate basics

    - by balina
    Hello. I'm learning VHDL and I've come to a halt. I'd like to create a simple gate out of smaller gates (a NAND gate here). Here's the code: library IEEE; use IEEE.STD_LOGIC_1164.all; entity ANDGATE2 is port( x,y : in STD_LOGIC; z : out STD_LOGIC ); end ANDGATE2; architecture ANDGATE2 of ANDGATE2 is begin z <= x AND y; end ANDGATE2; library IEEE; use IEEE.STD_LOGIC_1164.all; entity NOTGATE1 is port( x : in STD_LOGIC; z : out STD_LOGIC ); end NOTGATE1; architecture NOTGATE1 of NOTGATE1 is begin z <= NOT x; end NOTGATE1; library ieee; use ieee.std_logic_1164.all; entity NANDGATE2 is port( x : in STD_LOGIC; y : in STD_LOGIC; z : out STD_LOGIC ); end NANDGATE2; architecture NANDGATE2 of NANDGATE2 is signal c, d: std_logic; component NOTGATE1 port( n_in : in STD_LOGIC; n_out : out STD_LOGIC ); end component; component ANDGATE2 port( a_in1, a_in2 : in STD_LOGIC; a_out : out STD_LOGIC ); end component; begin N0: ANDGATE2 port map(x, y, c); N1: NOTGATE1 port map(c, d); z <= d; end NANDGATE2; Here's the code from some tutorial I've been using as a template; it compiles with no problems. library ieee; use ieee.std_logic_1164.all; -- definition of a full adder entity FULLADDER is port ( a, b, c: in std_logic; sum, carry: out std_logic ); end FULLADDER; architecture fulladder_behav of FULLADDER is begin sum <= (a xor b) xor c ; carry <= (a and b) or (c and (a xor b)); end fulladder_behav; -- 4-bit adder library ieee; use ieee.std_logic_1164.all; entity FOURBITADD is port ( a, b: in std_logic_vector(3 downto 0); Cin : in std_logic; sum: out std_logic_vector (3 downto 0); Cout, V: out std_logic ); end FOURBITADD; architecture fouradder_structure of FOURBITADD is signal c: std_logic_vector (4 downto 0); component FULLADDER port ( a, b, c: in std_logic; sum, carry: out std_logic ); end component; begin FA0: FULLADDER port map (a(0), b(0), Cin, sum(0), c(1)); FA1: FULLADDER port map (a(1), b(1), C(1), sum(1), c(2)); FA2: FULLADDER port map (a(2), b(2), C(2), sum(2), c(3)); FA3: FULLADDER port map (a(3), b(3), C(3), sum(3), c(4)); V <= c(3) xor c(4); Cout <= c(4); end fouradder_structure; My code compiles with no errors, but with two warnings: # Warning: ELAB1_0026: p2.vhd : (85, 0): There is no default binding for component "andgate2".(Port "a_in1" is not on the entity). # Warning: ELAB1_0026: p2.vhd : (87, 0): There is no default binding for component "notgate1".(Port "n_in" is not on the entity). What gives?

  • What is the best practice when coding math class/functions ?

    - by Isaac Clarke
    Introductory note : I voluntarily chose a wide subject. You know that quote about learning a cat to fish, that's it. I don't need an answer to my question, I need an explanation and advice. I know you guys are good at this ;) Hi guys, I'm currently implementing some algorithms into an existing program. Long story short, I created a new class, "Adder". An Adder is a member of another class representing the physical object actually doing the calculus , which calls adder.calc() with its parameters (merely a list of objects to do the maths on). To do these maths, I need some parameters, which do not exist outside of the class (but can be set, see below). They're neither config parameters nor members of other classes. These parameters are D1 and D2, distances, and three arrays of fixed size : alpha, beta, delta. I know some of you are more comfortable reading code than reading text so here you go : class Adder { public: Adder(); virtual Adder::~Adder(); void set( float d1, float d2 ); void set( float d1, float d2, int alpha[N_MAX], int beta[N_MAX], int delta[N_MAX] ); // Snipped prototypes float calc( List& ... ); // ... inline float get_d1() { return d1_ ;}; inline float get_d2() { return d2_ ;}; private: float d1_; float d2_; int alpha_[N_MAX]; // A #define N_MAX is done elsewhere int beta_[N_MAX]; int delta_[N_MAX]; }; Since this object is used as a member of another class, it is declared in a *.h : private: Adder adder_; By doing that, I couldn't initialize the arrays (alpha/beta/delta) directly in the constructor ( int T[3] = { 1, 2, 3 }; ), without having to iterate throughout the three arrays. I thought of putting them in static const, but I don't think that's the proper way of solving such problems. My second guess was to use the constructor to initialize the arrays Adder::Adder() { int alpha[N_MAX] = { 0, -60, -120, 180, 120, 60 }; int beta[N_MAX] = { 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0 }; int delta[N_MAX] = { 0, 0, 180, 180, 180, 0 }; set( 2.5, 0, alpha, beta, delta ); } void Adder::set( float d1, float d2 ) { if (d1 > 0) d1_ = d1; if (d2 > 0) d2_ = d2; } void Adder::set( float d1, float d2, int alpha[N_MAX], int beta[N_MAX], int delta[N_MAX] ) { set( d1, d2 ); for (int i = 0; i < N_MAX; ++i) { alpha_[i] = alpha[i]; beta_[i] = beta[i]; delta_[i] = delta[i]; } } My question is : Would it be better to use another function - init() - which would initialize arrays ? Or is there a better way of doing that ? My bonus question is : Did you see some mistakes or bad practice along the way ?

  • Difficulty creating classes and arrays of those classes C#

    - by Lucifer Fayte
    I'm trying to implement a Discrete Fourier Transformation algorithm for a project I'm doing in school. But creating a class is seeming to be difficult(which it shouldn't be). I'm using Visual Studio 2012. Basically I need a class called Complex to store the two values I get from a DFT; The real portion and the imaginary portion. This is what I have so far for that: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Threading.Tasks; namespace SoundEditor_V3 { public class Complex { public double real; public double im; public Complex() { real = 0; im = 0; } } } The problem is that it doesn't recognize the constructor as a constructor, now I'm just learning C#, but I looked it up online and this is how it's supposed to look apparently. It recognizes my constructor as a method. Why is that? Am I creating the class wrong? It's doing the same thing for my Fourier class as well. So each time I try to create a Fourier object and then use it's method...there is no such thing. example, I do this: Fourier fou = new Fourier(); fou.DFT(s, N, amp, 0); and it tells me fou is a 'field' but is used like a 'type' why is it saying that? Here is the code for my Fourier class as well: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Threading.Tasks; namespace SoundEditor_V3 { public class Fourier { //FOURIER //N = number of samples //s is the array of samples(data) //amp is the array where the complex result will be written to //start is the where in the array to start public void DFT(byte[] s, int N, ref Complex[] amp, int start) { Complex tem = new Complex(); int f; int t; for (f = 0; f < N; f++) { tem.real = 0; tem.im = 0; for (t = 0; t < N; t++) { tem.real += s[t + start] * Math.Cos(2 * Math.PI * t * f / N); tem.im -= s[t + start] * Math.Sin(2 * Math.PI * t * f / N); } amp[f].real = tem.real; amp[f].im = tem.im; } } //INVERSE FOURIER public void IDFT(Complex[] A, ref int[] s) { int N = A.Length; int t, f; double result; for (t = 0; t < N; t++) { result = 0; for (f = 0; f < N; f++) { result += A[f].real * Math.Cos(2 * Math.PI * t * f / N) - A[f].im * Math.Sin(2 * Math.PI * t * f / N); } s[t] = (int)Math.Round(result); } } } } I'm very much stuck at the moment, any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • PHP - Code Sample - Polymorphism Implementation - How to allow for expansion?

    - by darga33
    I've read numerous SO posts about Polymorphism, and also the other really good one at http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/understanding-and-applying-polymorphism-in-php/ Good stuff!!! I'm trying to figure out how a seasoned PHP developer that follows all the best practices would accomplish the following. Please be as specific and detailed as possible. I'm sure your answer is going to help a lot of people!!! :-) While learning Polymorphism, I came across a little stumbling block. Inside of the PDFFormatter class, I had to use (instanceof) in order to figure out if some code should be included in the returned data. I am trying to be able to pass in two different kinds of profiles to the formatter. (needs to be able to handle multiple kinds of formatters but display the data specific to the Profile class that is being passed to it). It doesn't look bad now, but imagine 10 more kinds of Profiles!! How would you do this? The best answer would also include the changes you would make. Thanks sooooooo much in advance!!!!! Please PHP only! Thx!!! File 1. FormatterInterface.php interface FormatterInterface { public function format(Profile $Profile); } File 2. PDFFormatter.php class PDFFormatter implements FormatterInterface { public function format(Profile $Profile) { $format = "PDF Format<br /><br />"; $format .= "This is a profile formatted as a PDF.<br />"; $format .= 'Name: ' . $Profile->name . '<br />'; if ($Profile instanceof StudentProfile) { $format .= "Graduation Date: " . $Profile->graduationDate . "<br />"; } $format .= "<br />End of PDF file"; return $format; } } File 3. Profile.php class Profile { public $name; public function __construct($name) { $this->name = $name; } public function format(FormatterInterface $Formatter) { return $Formatter->format($this); } } File 4. StudentProfile.php class StudentProfile extends Profile { public $graduationDate; public function __construct($name, $graduationDate) { $this->name = $name; $this->graduationDate = $graduationDate; } } File 5. index.php //Assuming all files are included...... $StudentProfile = new StudentProfile('Michael Conner', 55, 'Unknown, FL', 'Graduate', '1975', 'Business Management'); $Profile = new Profile('Brandy Smith', 44, 'Houston, TX'); $PDFFormatter = new PDFFormatter(); echo '<hr />'; echo $StudentProfile->format($PDFFormatter); echo '<hr />'; echo $Profile->format($PDFFormatter);

  • Jquery, XML and Google Map

    - by EXPennD
    Hi, I'm integrating a Google Map in my website that user could add some thumbnails and details of their own house. Here's a code preview of what I want to happen. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> Jquery and Google Map // var locations = {}; function load() { var map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("map")); map.setCenter(new GLatLng(47.614495, -122.341861), 13); GDownloadUrl("markerdata.xml", function(data) { var xml = GXml.parse(data); var markers = xml.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker"); for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) { var name = markers[i].getAttribute("name"); var address = markers[i].getAttribute("address"); var type = markers[i].getAttribute("type"); var latlng = new GLatLng(parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat")), parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng"))); var store = {latlng: latlng, name: name, address: address, type: type}; var latlngHash = (latlng.lat().toFixed(6) + "" + latlng.lng().toFixed(6)); latlngHash = latlngHash.replace(".","").replace(".", "").replace("-",""); if (locations[latlngHash] == null) { locations[latlngHash] = [] } locations[latlngHash].push(store); } for (var latlngHash in locations) { var stores = locations[latlngHash]; if (stores.length > 1) { map.addOverlay(createClusteredMarker(stores)); } else { map.addOverlay(createMarker(stores)); } } }); } function createMarker(stores) { var store = stores[0]; var newIcon = MapIconMaker.createMarkerIcon({width: 32, height: 32, primaryColor: "#00ff00"}); var marker = new GMarker(store.latlng, {icon: newIcon}); var html = "<b>" + store.name + "</b> <br/>" + store.address; GEvent.addListener(marker, 'click', function() { marker.openInfoWindowHtml(html); }); return marker; } function createClusteredMarker(stores) { var newIcon = MapIconMaker.createMarkerIcon({width: 44, height: 44, primaryColor: "#00ff00"}); var marker = new GMarker(stores[0].latlng, {icon: newIcon}); var html = ""; for (var i = 0; i < stores.length; i++) { html += "<b>" + stores[i].name + "</b> <br/>" + stores[i].address + "<br/>"; } GEvent.addListener(marker, 'click', function() { marker.openInfoWindowHtml(html); }); return marker; } //]]> description I want this feature to be fully interactive. If possible user can drag and drop a marker to the location on the Google map and the description field would be enabled after adding the marker so user could add details and submit it. Also here's my current situation. The reason why I want it to be done in XML is the Content Management System that I currently use for this project don't allow me to add Database and Php scripts. The only thing that I have access is I could add new HTML on the BODY section and also External Javascript on the HEAD section. Sorry about the way I write it, it sounds like demanding. Its because I'm still learning Jquery. Thanks everyone!

  • Split a Large File In C++

    - by wdow88
    Hey all, I'm trying to write a program that takes a large file (of any time) and splits it into many smaller "chunks". I think I have the basic idea down, but for some reason I cannot create a chunk size over 12,000 bites. I know there are a few solutions on google, etc. but I am more interested in learning what the origin of this limitation is then actually using the program to split files. //This file splits are larger into smaller files of a user inputted size. #include<iostream> #include<fstream> #include<string> #include<sstream> #include <direct.h> #include <stdlib.h> using namespace std; void GetCurrentPath(char* buffer) { _getcwd(buffer, _MAX_PATH); } int main() { // use the function to get the path char CurrentPath[_MAX_PATH]; GetCurrentPath(CurrentPath);//Get the current directory (used for displaying output) fstream bigFile; string filename; int partsize; cout << "Enter a file name: "; cin >> filename; //Recieve target file cout << "Enter the number of bites in each smaller file: "; cin >> partsize; //Recieve volume size bigFile.open(filename.c_str(),ios::in | ios::binary); bigFile.seekg(0, ios::end); // position get-ptr 0 bytes from end int size = bigFile.tellg(); // get-ptr position is now same as file size bigFile.seekg(0, ios::beg); // position get-ptr 0 bytes from beginning for (int i = 0; i <= (size / partsize); i++) { //Build File Name string partname = filename; //The original filename string charnum; //archive number stringstream out; //stringstream object out, used to build the archive name out << "." << i; charnum = out.str(); partname.append(charnum); //put the part name together //Write new file part fstream filePart; filePart.open(partname.c_str(),ios::out | ios::binary); //Open new file with the name built above //Check if near the end of file if (bigFile.tellg() < (size - (size%partsize))) { filePart.write(reinterpret_cast<char *>(&bigFile),partsize); //Write the selected amount to the file filePart.close(); //close file bigFile.seekg(partsize, ios::cur); //move pointer to next position to be written } //Changes the size of the last volume because it is the end of the file else { filePart.write(reinterpret_cast<char *>(&bigFile),(size%partsize)); //Write the selected amount to the file filePart.close(); //close file } cout << "File " << CurrentPath << partname << " produced" << endl; //display the progress of the split } bigFile.close(); cout << "Split Complete." << endl; return 0; } Any ideas? Thanks!

  • C# LINQ filtering with nested if statements

    - by Tim Sumrall
    I have a learning project where a data grid is filtered by 3 controls (a checkbox and 2 dropdowns) I'm about to wrap up and move on to another project as it works well but I don't like the complexity of nesting IF statements to capture all the possible combinations of the 3 filters and was wondering if there is a better way. For example: Something that would allow for more filters to be added easily rather than walking through all the nests and adding another level of madness. private void BuildQuery() { EntityQuery<MASTER_DOCKS> query = QDocksContext.GetMASTER_DOCKSQuery(); if (Tonnage.IsChecked.HasValue && Tonnage.IsChecked.Value) { if (null != FilterWaterWay.SelectedValue) { string WaterwaytoFilterBy = FilterWaterWay.SelectedValue.ToString(); if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(WaterwaytoFilterBy) && WaterwaytoFilterBy != "[Select WaterWay]") { if (null != FilterState.SelectedValue) { string StateToFilterBy = FilterState.SelectedValue.ToString(); if (null != FilterState.SelectedValue && !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(StateToFilterBy) && StateToFilterBy != "[Select State]") { if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(StateToFilterBy) && StateToFilterBy != "[Select State]") { query = query.Where(s => s.WTWY_NAME == WaterwaytoFilterBy && s.STATE == StateToFilterBy && (s.Tons != "0" && s.Tons != "")).OrderBy(s => s.WTWY_NAME); MyQuery.Text = "Tonnage, WW and State"; } } if (StateToFilterBy == "[Select State]") //waterway but no state { query = query.Where(s => s.WTWY_NAME == WaterwaytoFilterBy && (s.Tons != "0" && s.Tons != "")).OrderBy(s => s.WTWY_NAME); MyQuery.Text = "Tonnage, WW No State"; } } } else { if (null != FilterState.SelectedValue) { string StateToFilterBy = FilterState.SelectedValue.ToString(); if (null != FilterState.SelectedValue && !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(StateToFilterBy) && StateToFilterBy != "[Select State]") { if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(StateToFilterBy) && StateToFilterBy != "[Select State]") { query = query.Where(s => s.STATE == StateToFilterBy && (s.Tons != "0" && s.Tons != "")).OrderBy(s => s.WTWY_NAME); MyQuery.Text = "Tonnage State No WW"; } } else { query = query.Where(s => (s.Tons != "0" && s.Tons != "")); MyQuery.Text = "Tonnage No State No WW"; } } } } } else //no tonnage { if (null != FilterWaterWay.SelectedValue) { string WaterwaytoFilterBy = FilterWaterWay.SelectedValue.ToString(); if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(WaterwaytoFilterBy) && WaterwaytoFilterBy != "[Select WaterWay]") { if (null != FilterState.SelectedValue) { string StateToFilterBy = FilterState.SelectedValue.ToString(); if (null != FilterState.SelectedValue && !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(StateToFilterBy) && StateToFilterBy != "[Select State]") { if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(StateToFilterBy) && StateToFilterBy != "[Select State]") { query = query.Where(s => s.WTWY_NAME == WaterwaytoFilterBy && s.STATE == StateToFilterBy).OrderBy(s => s.WTWY_NAME); MyQuery.Text = "No Tonnage, WW and State"; } } if (StateToFilterBy == "[Select State]") //waterway but no state { query = query.Where(s => s.WTWY_NAME == WaterwaytoFilterBy).OrderBy(s => s.WTWY_NAME); MyQuery.Text = "No Tonnage, WW No State"; } } } else { if (null != FilterState.SelectedValue) { string StateToFilterBy = FilterState.SelectedValue.ToString(); if (null != FilterState.SelectedValue && !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(StateToFilterBy) && StateToFilterBy != "[Select State]") { if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(StateToFilterBy) && StateToFilterBy != "[Select State]") { query = query.Where(s => s.STATE == StateToFilterBy).OrderBy(s => s.WTWY_NAME); MyQuery.Text = "No Tonnage State No WW"; } } else { LoadAllData(); MyQuery.Text = "No Tonnage No State No WW"; } } } } } LoadOperation<MASTER_DOCKS> loadOp = this.QDocksContext.Load(query); DocksGrid.ItemsSource = loadOp.Entities; }

  • Is this a reasonable way to handle getters/setters in a PHP class?

    - by Mark Biek
    I'm going to try something with the format of this question and I'm very open to suggestions about a better way to handle it. I didn't want to just dump a bunch of code in the question so I've posted the code for the class on refactormycode. base-class-for-easy-class-property-handling My thought was that people can either post code snippets here or make changes on refactormycode and post links back to their refactorings. I'll make upvotes and accept an answer (assuming there's a clear "winner") based on that. At any rate, on to the class itself: I see a lot of debate about getter/setter class methods and is it better to just access simple property variables directly or should every class have explicit get/set methods defined, blah blah blah. I like the idea of having explicit methods in case you have to add more logic later. Then you don't have to modify any code that uses the class. However I hate having a million functions that look like this: public function getFirstName() { return $this->firstName; } public function setFirstName($firstName) { return $this->firstName; } Now I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this (I'm hoping that there's a better way of doing it that someone can suggest to me). Basically, the PropertyHandler class has a __call magic method. Any methods that come through __call that start with "get" or "set" are then routed to functions that set or retrieve values into an associative array. The key into the array is the name of the calling method after get or set. So, if the method coming into __call is "getFirstName", the array key is "FirstName". I liked using __call because it will automatically take care of the case where the subclass already has a "getFirstName" method defined. My impression (and I may be wrong) is that the __get & __set magic methods don't do that. So here's an example of how it would work: class PropTest extends PropertyHandler { public function __construct() { parent::__construct(); } } $props = new PropTest(); $props->setFirstName("Mark"); echo $props->getFirstName(); Notice that PropTest doesn't actually have "setFirstName" or "getFirstName" methods and neither does PropertyHandler. All that's doing is manipulating array values. The other case would be where your subclass is already extending something else. Since you can't have true multiple inheritance in PHP, you can make your subclass have a PropertyHandler instance as a private variable. You have to add one more function but then things behave in exactly the same way. class PropTest2 { private $props; public function __construct() { $this->props = new PropertyHandler(); } public function __call($method, $arguments) { return $this->props->__call($method, $arguments); } } $props2 = new PropTest2(); $props2->setFirstName('Mark'); echo $props2->getFirstName(); Notice how the subclass has a __call method that just passes everything along to the PropertyHandler __call method. Another good argument against handling getters and setters this way is that it makes it really hard to document. In fact, it's basically impossible to use any sort of document generation tool since the explicit methods to be don't documented don't exist. I've pretty much abandoned this approach for now. It was an interesting learning exercise but I think it sacrifices too much clarity.

  • Why ((Integer) weightModel.getObject()).intValue(); throws exception

    - by yakup
    I am learning Wicket by "Enjoying Web Development with Wicket" book. And in an example: int weight = ((Integer) weightModel.getObject()).intValue(); is used. When I click Submit button it throws exception. But after changed the code to: int weight=Integer.parseInt( (String) weightModel.getObject()); It works fine. What is the reason for throwing the exception? The full code: GetRequest.java package myapp.postage; import java.util.HashMap; import java.util.Map; import org.apache.wicket.markup.html.WebPage; import org.apache.wicket.markup.html.form.Form; import org.apache.wicket.markup.html.form.TextField; import org.apache.wicket.model.Model; @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public class GetRequest extends WebPage { private Model weightModel=new Model(); private Model patronCodeModel=new Model(); private Map patronCodeToDiscount; public GetRequest(){ patronCodeToDiscount=new HashMap(); patronCodeToDiscount.put("p1", new Integer(90)); patronCodeToDiscount.put("p2", new Integer(95)); Form form=new Form("form"){ @Override protected void onSubmit(){ int weight = ((Integer) weightModel.getObject()).intValue(); Integer discount=(Integer)patronCodeToDiscount.get(patronCodeModel.getObject()); int postagePerKg=10; int postage=weight*postagePerKg; if(discount!=null){ postage=postage*discount.intValue()/100; } ShowPostage showPostage=new ShowPostage(postage); setResponsePage(showPostage); } }; TextField weight=new TextField("weight",weightModel); form.add(weight); TextField patronCode=new TextField("patronCode",patronCodeModel); form.add(patronCode); add(form); } } The html file GetRequest.html: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <form wicket:id="form"> <table> <tr> <td>Weight</td> <td><input type="text" wicket:id="weight"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Patron code:</td> <td><input type="text" wicket:id="patronCode"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td><input type="submit"/></td> </tr> </table> </form> </html>
