    Hello, I am by no means an expert at javascript, but I have been reading Dave Pilgrim's "Dive into HTML5" webpage and he mentioned something that I would like a better understanding of. He states: "Finally, you use the double-negative trick to force the result to a Boolean value (true or false)." function supports_canvas() { return !!document.createElement('canvas').getContext; } If anyone can explain this a little better I would appreciate it!

  • When writing a form submit to a file, strip line breaks and commas

    I have a form with a textarea in it. I log the results to a text file on the server, but I would like to strip out any line breaks a user would put in the textarea, as well as any commas that would interfere with importing the comma-delimited log text file into Excel or something for later use. I think this has to do with regex, but I'm no expert and could use some help. Or maybe there is an easy PHP function that will do it?

    Hi, I need to figure out the value of data strings with jquery, for example like this: { label: "Beginner", data: 2}, { label: "Advanced", data: 12}, { label: "Expert", data: 22}, to add them up.     I have used regExp quit a bit of times but still far from being an expert. This time I want to validate a formula (or math expression) by regExp. The difficult part here is to validate proper starting and ending parentheses with in the formula. I believe, there would be some sample on the web but I could not find it. Can somebody post a link for such example? or help me by some other means?

    I'm looking for an explanation of the different functionality in versions of a application called VMAC (Verix blah blah blah), also called "comm server", which is used on Verifone payment terminals. I've got terminals with versions 1.7 and 3.3 of VMAC, and I'm unaware of the differences. If someone is a Verifone expert, it would be helpful to know how much of the communication with the processing host vs the merchant services provider's application.

    Hello, I have to migrate this query (simplified here) from T-SQL to ORACLE SET IDENTITY_INSERT table ON INSERT INTO table (id, value) VALUES (1, 2) SET IDENTITY_INSERT table OFF id being an Identity field in SQLServer. I have the same table with a sequence in ORACLE, I couldn't find a snippet that shows how to disable the sequence and set it to start again with the MAX(id) + 1.     Hi all, Not a VB6 expert... Trying to come up with a VB6 test app that calls InternetCheckConnection. In my test app, InternetCheckConnection always returns false regardless of the URL I use. I copied and pasted this code from a larger spaghetti-code app, but in the spaghetti-code, InternetCheckConnection seems to work fine, returns true. Is there some other function I have to call first in order for InternetCheckConnection to work?

Does anyone know what those are and how one can access them to test various code optimizations?
