• wifi hardware switch doesn't work on a Dell 1018

  I have a problem with my Dell 1018 Inspiron. I can't switch the wifi on, through the key on the keyboard. I think it's a driver problem since Ubuntu 11.10. This are the versions i tried: Ubuntu 10.04 / 10.10 It's possible to install the driver by hand: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lexical/hwe-wireless sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install rtl8192ce-dkms Ubuntu 11.04 It works out of the box Ubuntu 11.10 / 12.04 I haven’t found any solution for these versions. The "ppa:lexical/hwe-wireless" doesn't work for these versions. It says Can not find package rtl8192ce-dkms. The window of additional drivers is empty. So I can't install the driver. The wired network works good.   I work at a relatively small company, around 30 people and we are now looking into a solution that can handle: File sharing. Email server. Calendar support. Around 30 users. Accessible from external network. Support for Windows XP (and above), Mac OS 10.6.3 and Ubuntu clients. When it comes down to security we don't have the experience to comment on that. • Ubuntu 12.10 Trackpoint not detected Thinkpad X130e

  I just did a fresh install of 12.10 and now only my touchpad works. The trackpoint and Left/Right buttons below the trackpoint do not work. The trackpoint worked fine as of 12.04. I've searched online and there was a hack that said that disabling the touchpad would enable the trackpoint. WRONG! You'll end up having to use the keyboard =/. • Recurring events repeatedly saves a draft every minute

  Using Outlook 2010, some of my recurring (planned, not drafts) events is saving a draft to my Drafts folder every single minute as long as it's active. An example taken from real life is that I have a calendar entry (Appointment) occuring every day from 24-09-2012 until 28-09-2012 from 08:00 to 16:00 (GMT+1) with a blue category, only one participant (me) with subject but without a place. So every minute from 24-09-2012 until 28-09-2012 from 08:00 to 16:00, but not from 16:00 to 08:00, a new draft is automatically saved in my Drafts folder. How do I get rid of that behaviour? Addition here: Removing the offending event just allows a new one to take its place. There doesn't seem to be much on the sites - Microsoft calls it a "personal" issue, but there are more and more instances.

  I recently had issues with secure boot and couldn't boot the Live CD/USB but after disabling secure boot, I was able to 'TRY UBUNTU'. My currently problem is that I can't access WIFI or LAN from either Ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10 Live CD/USB which I do from Windows 8. Also, the wireless button is able to turn on and off the wireless LED but doesn't find available WIFI. Please, what should I do to get both WIFI and LAN working on Ubuntu using Toshiba qosmio x870? All users in the acquisition have a new account in our organization. We have considered a number of options including CalDAV, but nothing seems to meet our needs. • Microsoft Outlook: show multi-day appointments as boxes in calendar day and week view

  I would like to show appointments spanning several days the same way as appintments within a single day. Single day appointments are shown with a white or colored box, covering the day horizontally. Multi-day appointments are shown in the day/week header and are indicated blue or purple on the left side of a day. This happens even if a multi-day appointment is not an all-day appointment (i.e. checkbox is off) and I have a start and end time. I frequently have a hard time seeing appointment overlaps wenn acceping single day appointments. Therefore I am looking for multi-day appointments shown the same way as single day appointments. I am on Outlook 2003.

• Ubuntu 12.10 graphics does not work properly

  My graphic on ubuntu 12.10 does not work as well as on 12.04. After upgrade I installed driver sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current for my Nvidia 450 GTS graphics card. But sometimes I see slight lag on my videos played in VLC player, some of desktop and window effects are lagging, sometimes I can see an indescribable souce of pixels on my screen at the start of ubuntu and so on. I feel difference between 12.04 and 12.10 in favour of former version. • Calendar invites go out OK, acknowldegements don't come back, using exchange server

  When I send an invite it goew out OK, however, I don't get an acceptances acknowledgement back. Both I and the person who got the invite are on exchange. When the person who got the invite sends an email responce there is a .ics mini-attachment. When I click on the .ics attachment it doesn't put anything in the calander, it just points to the contact for the person I sent the inviter to.

• Unable to configure/setup 5.1 audio with 12.04

  I am kinda new to Ubuntu as well. I have been having this issue with audio for quite sometime now. Initially, when I installed version 11.10 (I guess), I was able to use my 5.1 speakers without any issues. If my memory serves me right, it was after an update that the 5.1 audio stopped working and the video resolution would not get saved. I temporarily fixed the resolution issue by creating a start-up shell script that would update the resolution and load it. But the issue with audio has been going on for quite sometime now. Even though I have option for 5.1, only two speakers seem to be working. I thought an upgrade should fix the issue and so upgraded the OS to version 12.04. I also tried uninstalling alsa and pulse audio, reinstalling them, changing the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf channels from 2 to 6. I have also tried installing pavucontrol but nothing seems to have worked and the issue still persists. Is there anything else you could suggest? • Google Calender sync in Window 7 64bit

  Hi, Has anyone got the google calender sync (http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=89955) to work on Windows 7 64 bit with Outlook 2007? I have set up 2 way sync but it only seems to sync from my gmail calender to outlook calender. If I make an appointment in my outlook calender, it doesn't show up in gmail calender. I tried running it as admin, but no joy. I also tried running it in compatablity mode (XP service pack 3). But it still gives me an error when i do a manual Sync that says "Could not connect to microsoft outlook. error -2146959355" Thanks in advance.

• Outlook 2010 reminders keep popping up even if closed

  Today when I got to work and started my computers I got a event reminder for my last events last friday. I closed the reminder, but perhaps 10 minutes later it pops up again, and another 10 minutes later it popped up yet again. As the day is passing all my reminders for this day is added to the list of reminders that keep popping up 10 minutes after that they are closed. I've tried both the repair function in Windows Control Panel -- E-mail and the scanpst.exe program, but none of them solved the problem. I've tried outlook.exe /cleansniff and outlook.exe /cleanreminders, but that didn't help either. Reading on the net there seem to be some reports with this for reoccuring calendar events, but my affected events are one-timers. How can I get the closed reminders to stay closed? Update: I noticed that I have 282 drafts of the meetings that I keep getting reminders of.

• After startup, display reverts to one desktop duplicated on both screens

  I have a Samsung R530 laptop. I'm actually running Linux Mint, which is based on Ubuntu (which is why I thought it would be OK to post this here). I'm now getting exactly the same problem on Ubuntu 10.10. I've got it setup with a secondary LCD monitor, and I've changed the display settings so the laptop screen and monitor are at optimal resolution, with the desktop shared between them. After startup though (typically around 10-30 seconds) the display reverts to 1024 x 768 on both screens, and the display is duplicated (i.e. both screens show the same thing). I think this is something to do with my video card, as I had the same problem when I was running Arch Linux. Any ideas?   I know this subject has been beaten to death but after searching for a few hours to this problem I had to ask. My Problem: do calculations on dates on a server based on the current time zone of a client app (iphone). The client app tells the server, in seconds, how far away its time zone is away from GMT. I would like to then use this information to do computation on dates in the server. The dates on the server are all stored as UTC time. So I would like to get the HOUR of a UTC Date object after it has been converted to this local time zone. My current attempt: int hours = (int) Math.floor(secondsFromGMT / (60.0 * 60.0)); int mins = (int) Math.floor((secondsFromGMT - (hours * 60.0 * 60.0)) / 60.0); String sign = hours > 0 ? "+" : "-"; Calendar now = Calendar.getInstance(); TimeZone t = TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT" + sign + hours + ":" + mins); now.setTimeZone(t); now.setTime(someDateTimeObject); int hourOfDay = now.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY); The variables hour and mins represent the hour and mins the local time zone is away from GMT. After debugging this code - the variables hour, mins and sign are correct. The problem is hourOfDay does not return the correct hour - it is returning the hour as of UTC time and not local time. Ideas?

  Hey all, I've built a pretty shnazzy calendar system but there is one tweak that I need to make so that I'm completely happy with it. My calendar has three tables: calevents - The calendared event. caldates - The occurrences and date-range of each occurrence for each event. calcats - The categories that can be applied to an event. The short: For each calevent, there can be many caldates, one for each occurrence of calevent. So a calevent that repeats weekly and spans 3 days might have caldates like this: date_id date_eid date_start date_end 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-23 3 37 2010-06-28 2010-06-30 7 37 2010-07-05 2010-07-07 9 37 2010-07-12 2010-07-14 What I want to do, is when selecting all the caldates for a specified month such as 2010-06, to return not just the two records above, but instead a record for each date in the range of date_start and date_end for each caldate. So if I searched for 2010-06, I would get: date_id date_eid date_start date_end date_day 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-23 2010-06-21 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-23 2010-06-22 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-23 2010-06-23 3 37 2010-06-28 2010-06-30 2010-06-28 3 37 2010-06-28 2010-06-30 2010-06-29 3 37 2010-06-28 2010-06-30 2010-06-30 The Long: The reason I want to do this, is so when displaying a list of events(calevents) for a specified month, an occurrence(caldates) of that event will be displayed for EACH of the days it spans. I could do this with php by looping through each day of the current month and displaying a copy of each caldate if the month day falls between date_start and date_end. But doing it this way will prevent me from using record pagination if needed. For example, if for a specified month the following caldates were returned: date_id date_eid date_start date_end 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-27 94 53 2010-06-09 2010-07-08 Doing record pagination would see this as only 2 records("rows"). But looping through them with PHP would generate 29 "rows". So, I figure if I use mysql to create each row instead of PHP, I can achieve the same thing AND still be able to use pagination if a month has a lot of events/dates. As far as performance goes, I'm not sure which option is more efficient. Both would send the same amount of info to the browser, so it's really only the work required to generate the info that matters.
