  • Open source ASP.NET MVC project for a SaaS application

    I am working on a personal project that offers a service online. I'd like put this out to the public. I don't want to reinvent the wheel and use an existing template/open source project and add my service specific functionality. The features I am looking for are: Support for different roles (I need to have an admin role, customer and preferred customer roles) An admin section where admins can manage user accounts, login as with users credentials for providing support Customer pages that are role specific (Ex: Some functionality can be used by preferred customers but not non preferred ones) Preferably a pricing/plans page with payment gateway integration These are some of the basic pages available in most of service sites online. Is there a MVC 3 (preferably 4) written in C# that I can use as a shell to build upon? Thanks

  • Elantech trackpad being identified as a logitech wheel mouse.

    I recently purchased a Samsung RF510 laptop computer, which I absolutely love. However, upon installing Ubuntu 10.10 onto it I couldn't get the trackpad to function properly. It worked as a basic mouse (point and click) but had no functionality for edge scrolling or any of the multitouch settings the trackpad is capable of. After doing a lot of research I discovered the reason is a known issue where the Ubuntu kernel will improperly detect an Elantech trackpad as a logitech PS/2 wheel mouse, and as such will gain none of the functionality that seems to be coded for synaptics trackpads. The question I have is: does anyone know a way to get this working properly? This is my first time trying to run Ubuntu on a laptop (actually, it's my first laptop in the last 12 years) and I'm finding the experience to be intolerable without the basic scrolling/zooming/etc I've been used to using for as long as I can remember.

These are basically your 1 to 1 representation of a database table. Each table in the database will have 1 and only 1 EO. The EO contains the mapping between columns and attributes. This is the abstraction of your data layer which you want to show to the outside word.It defines an updatable data model and top-level procedures and functions (called service methods) related to a logical unit of work related to an end-user task. While the base components handle all the common cases through built-in behavior, customization is always possible and the default behavior provided by the base components can be easily overridden or augmented. When you create EO's, a foreign key will be translated into an association in our model. It defines the type of relation and who is the master and child as well as how the visibility of the association looks like. A similar concept exists to identify relations between view objects. These are called view links. These are almost identical as association except that a view link is based upon attributes defined in the view object. It can also be based upon an association.   • Where to find Joomla components for 1.0.X?

    I need to add new functionality to an old Joomla 1.0.15 installation. To be concrete, I need to add a component that allows me to add custom javascript to my content. I know that there is the option to edit the html source of the content but I rather would like to use a module for this. So I see two options (correct me if there are more): Update Joomla to at least version 1.5 (From some forum posts I found out that can be somewhat complicated). I don't know if it is worth the effort since new functionality requirements come rarely (and I think my client doesn't want to pay for a Joomla version update). Find an appropriate component and leave the old installation as it is. Can anyone point me into the right direction?

  • CMS for single user-editable pages?

    Does anybody know of a CMS where users can edit their own page, and their page only (something similar to about.me, except with more customization/options)? I'm not talking about profiles, but more like an individual web page for people's businesses. I want to be able to give local businesses the opportunity to make a single web page for their businesses with ease. I have looked at many CMS's, but I can't find anything that offers this type of functionality. I've check out the following: Unify Concrete 5 Drupal Simple CMS CMS Made Simple (and more) If anybody knows a CMS with the functionality that I'm looking for, or even a regular CMS with modules/plugins that I would be able to use, that would be awesome.     My plan is to develop a web based application in the future. I think, i can named it "Booth Reservation System" for the Events companies here in our country. One of the main functionality of the system and the most tricky part/ difficult part is the user can upload a "floor plan"(the design of the area were the booth is located in any image format) then the user can select on the specific location on the floor plan to reserve the booth. Also, the user can create floor plan on the system as another functionality of the system. What do you think? What programming language that i can use to accomplished the system? thanks!

    I'm developing a commercial application that largely depends on the functionality of a library that will be developed with it. I'd like to open-source this library, because it offers functionality that is not found elsewhere and can be useful in other applications. However, I will also use it in my own commercial application. I don't want to publish the source of the main application, but it is definitely not a derived work (think of calculator app using GPL licensed library to calculate sine). And if someone else commercially uses the library, I want to require them to publish any changes made. Is the GPL license suitable for this or is LGPL perhaps what I need?

  • What X keysym to use for rfkill / flight mode?

    On my laptop Fn+F12 toggles flight mode in windows. I'd like the same functionality in Linux and am looking for the appropriate X keysym that will invoke the equivalent of rfkill block all when mapped with xmodmap. I can see there is XF86WLAN and XF86Bluetooth, but they are not what I'm after. I want it to kill/enable all radio devices. I'm not after the script that would do this (see here for example), but wondering if Ubuntu has this functionality already hooked up and if so, what keysym to set up in xmodmap.

    We are currently working on redesigning our site and making it responsive. It is a search intensive site with complex functionality, a lot of search filters and a lot of content. Our mobile versions of certain pages need to hide some functionality (i.e. search filters) that exists in the desktop version and/or content (mainly blocks of text that are not necessary or are increasing page load in mobile devices). My questions is this: does the situation of having the same URL (responsive site) serving slightly different content (text and/or search filters) for certain pages in different devices affect our SEO (SERPs or otherwise)?

  • Using gerrit (or similar tool) on a team where multiple devs work on a single feature

    We have a team of roughly ~8 devs who regularly work on the same feature over the course of a 3 week sprint. It isn't quite pair programming, but in our current workflow devs regularly push up incomplete code for a colleague to complete. This worked fine before we introduced Gerrit, but now our commits need to represent chunks of test-passing, complete, logical functionality, and so the model breaks. My only idea is to have everybody push up to a separate, untracked branch up until the functionality is ready for review, then squash everything into commits that make sense and push up. Is there another Gerrit-ized workflow that could work? I know this is a widely discussed topic on Google Groups, and that there has recently been some discussion of Gerrit topic reviews, but I wanted to see if there is anybody out there using Gerrit in this way, and what the suggested workflow would be.

  • What is the most appropriate testing method in this scenario?

    I'm writing some Objective-C apps (for OS X/iOS) and I'm currently implementing a service to be shared across them. The service is intended to be fairly self-contained. For the current functionality I'm envisioning there will be only one method that clients will call to do a fairly complicated series of steps both using private methods on the class, and passing data through a bunch of "data mangling classes" to arrive at an end result. The gist of the code is to fetch a log of changes, stored in a service-internal data store, that has occurred since a particular time, simplify the log to only include the last applicable change for each object, attach the serialized values for the affected objects and return this all to the client. My question then is, how do I unit-test this entry point method? Obviously, each class would have thorough unit tests to ensure that their functionality works as expected, but the entry point seems harder to "disconnect" from the rest of the world. I would rather not send in each of these internal classes IoC-style, because they're small and are only made classes to satisfy the single-responsibility principle. I see a couple possibilities: Create a "private" interface header for the tests with methods that call the internal classes and test each of these methods separately. Then, to test the entry point, make a partial mock of the service class with these private methods mocked out and just test that the methods are called with the right arguments. Write a series of fatter tests for the entry point without mocking out anything, testing the entire functionality in one go. This looks, to me, more like "integration testing" and seems brittle, but it does satisfy the "only test via the public interface" principle. Write a factory that returns these internal services and take that in the initializer, then write a factory that returns mocked versions of them to use in tests. This has the downside of making the construction of the service annoying, and leaks internal details to the client. Write a "private" initializer that take these services as extra parameters, use that to provide mocked services, and have the public initializer back-end to this one. This would ensure that the client code still sees the easy/pretty initializer and no internals are leaked. I'm sure there's more ways to solve this problem that I haven't thought of yet, but my question is: what's the most appropriate approach according to unit testing best practices? Especially considering I would prefer to write this test-first, meaning I should preferably only create these services as the code indicates a need for them.

  • Android loading screens blocking, good practice?

    I've noticed many (if not all) android games don't support the "back" button functionality during their loading screens. Which leads to some frustrating moments when a user accidentally starts up the game and has to wait for the long loading stage to end in order to close it. So my questions are: 1) Why is that ? Is there a good reason to avoid something like asynchronous loading (or some other solution to this problem) in android games ? 2) If there is no good reason not to support this functionality, what would be the best way to accomplish it ?
