• Group policy issues

  We are having an issue on one of our clients relatively new sbs installs. The domain consists of a single SBS 2011 server with 4 windows 7 clients and 3 xp clients. Most of the time everything is fine however roughly every 3 days windows 7 clients start timing out when trying to receive computer group policy. This results in hour long delays before getting to the login screen in the morning. This is accompanied by event ID 6006, win login errors stating it took 3599 seconds to process policy. Once they've booted they can log in without issue however gpupdate fails again on computer policy and gpresult comes back with access denied, even when run as domain admin... At this point if we restart the server the network is fine for 3 days. I thought perhaps it might be ipv6 or smb2, but disabling ipv6 on the clients doesn't help and the clients can browse the sysvol folder freely on smb2 anyway. Does anyone have any ideas or routes I can take to further diagnose the issue? Thanks in advance :)

• Dual Monitor setup issues between laptop and external led monitor

  I have two challenges. Monitor will not connect to laptop through HDMI Watching HD video content causes the laptop to sometimes turn off expecially when I'm streaming from tekzilla.com Setup. I got my new HP 2311x LED LCD monitor this week and I have it running as the main monitor extended by the 15 inch screen on my Dell Studio 1558. Right now I have to connect the external monitor through VGA. For the HDMI connection issue. I suspect that either the appropriate drivers are not installed because I don't see any hdmi device in the device manager. I've checked and I don't see any hdmi specific drivers listed online. For the shut down issue, I suspect the laptop might be overheating. Not sure why it would. It never did that while I watched movies on my laptop's default screen. My Laptop Configuration: 15" led lcd screen at 1366 x 768 intel i5 processor integrated graphics card 4 GB DDR3 RAM 500 GB hard drive I've tried everything from switching the source on my monitor to hdmi to start up combinations and nothing has worked. What could be the issue and how do I solve it?

• Windows 7 boot issues

  Ok, I tried to install linux and dual boot my laptop with 7 ultimate. I messed up. When I tried to boot to 7 it said no. Something along the lines of device not found. So I being young and stupid I uninstalled linux which I could boot into, and I still could not boot to windows. Next step was to run the startup fixes from the boot cd. Swing and a miss, I also ran the fixmbr and fixboot. Which brings us up to my current place. I installed 7 again on my blank partition in hopes I could access my other partion. No dice. So my question to yall is how can I fix my original filesystem or at least get to the stuff on it. In the new 7 install the old partion does not even have a drive letter. That is my sad story any help would be apreciated.

• How can I solve Windows PPTP VPN issues?

  I'm having persistent problems with Windows PPTP VPN connections. The VPN appears up whilst the tunnel won't transfer traffic (ping to a remote IP within the VPN works for a while, and then fails). The client receives routing information via DHCP. When the connection fails, the routing table is still correct so I don't think it's a routing problem. My internet connection is via an ADSL2 line. There's software to deal with PPTP problems, like TunnelRat, but I don't want to install v1.1 of the .NET framework and I'd rather get to the bottom of the problem (I have multiple VPN connections and some are more unreliable than others). What can I do to get to the bottom of this? Alternatively, what can I do to keep the connection alive?

• Windows XP Video Configuration Issues

  Recently I had my motherboard burn out on me. Needing the machine for work, I purchased a different motherboard and installed that. Generally a reinstall of windows is good at that point but I am not in a position to do that so I just decided I would live with it for now. When I can log-in, everything works fine, what doesn't is getting to the log-in prompt to begin with. Basically when I first installed the new mobo, every time I rebooted the machine, I would not get the windows login prompt. One of the monitors would receive a signal but the screen would be black. Moving the mouse would not show the cursor and hitting the up arrow key and typing my password and hitting enter (which will normally log you in without mouse) wouldn't change anything. I would then change the monitor configuration around (2 lcd's and a crt) and reboot and at least one of the monitors would work and display the login prompt. I could then go into display properties and turn on the other monitors. However if I rebooted again, I would get the black screen on one monitor again. I would then have to change the configuration again to one not used before and I could re-do the manual setup at that point. I think windows saves the configurations so I had to keep giving it new ones. Needless to say I've been trying to not turn off my machine. Early this week I actually got the prompt to come up without playing musical monitors. Thinking everything was getting better, I found no harm in rebooting to install the latest windows updates. Boy was I wrong. Now no matter what I do I can't get a windows log-in prompt to display. I've tried almost every conceivable combination. The new mobo has onboard video so I set that in the bios (yea bios screen always displays fine, its not until windows boots that there is a problem) to be the primary video. Still no luck. I have two other graphics cards in the machine which I'm using. Tried all kinds of configurations between those and on-board but still get this black screen of death. I read somewhere that deleting the video drivers would reset the configurations. I logged into safe mode (which works on one monitor), and uninstalled the display drivers. Still no luck and when I booted back into safe mode, it wanted to install new hardware and the display adapters weren't there as expected. Anyone have any ideas? A fresh install would be a pain and I might be getting my old board back from RMA soon so not sure I want to go through with that just yet. Only thing I can think of is to continue to try other combinations like physically removing the graphics cards. They are both EVGA 8600 cards and the windows boot screen does display fwiw.

• Remote desktop connection issues in windows server 2003

  Hi all, We are running windows server 2003 at our work place. I have enabled the remote desktop connections. I have also added all the users who connect to the server(three to four people) to the RDC group of users. Many of these users are also having Administrator access. The problem we are facing is that the connection is suddenly lost when we are working on something. Also, at times the system restarts by itself. Is this issue related to the limit on the number of users able to connect to the system? If so, why does the system accept new connections and/or terminate the existing connections? Has this anything to do with the users having administrator access so that all have equal prority and that is why existing connections are stalled? Also, please differentiate between console remote desktop and non console remote desktop.

• Sendmail smtp-auth issues

  I'm running into a problem with Sendmail trying to implement SMTP- auth. I"m running 8.14.5 and have saslauthd running under FreeBSD 7.0-R. I don't believe I have starttls enabled (but I also compiled a version with it and have been testing it too - same problem) - just looking for basic auth, but am wondering if my configuration is not compatible with modern mail clients? I don't think I have any certs set up. It seems an older version of Microsoft Outlook Express works fine with SMTP-auth with no problems, but Outlook 2010 won't work, and neither will Eudora (basic settings to not use encryption and use same uid/pw as pop3 account name) When trying to send mail the server reports: "550 571 Relaying Denied. Proper authentication required." Is there some config that I am missing? • PhpMyAdmin import/export - strange character encoding issues.

  Hello, I'm migrating a site to a new host, and there are a couple of databases on there. There's no SSH access so I'm stuck with phpmyadmin. The issue is that certain characters (namely just whitespace) seems to being corrupt on the new site (same html, and apache doesn't seem to be messing with any encodings - you can see the strange characters have changed when I use less on my linux machine after downloading a table dump from both servers.) The issue isn't as bad if I import into the new database as utf-8 - whitespace characters only have one funny A type symbol instead of two. I've been trying various combinations of character encoding etc to no avail. Exporting from: phpMyAdmin 2.6.2 MySQL 4.1.20 MySQL connection collation: utf8_general_ci MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8) Collation on tables and their fields is: latin1_swedish_ci Importing to: phpMyAdmin - 2.11.9.2 MySQL client version: 5.0.45 MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8) MySQL connection collation: utf8_general_ci The import sql has this kind of thing in it: ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=192 ; I get the impression this is actually a bug or something with mysqldump as nothing seems to work.. does anyone have any insight into this? • Large concurrent user performance issues for Apache + mod_jk + GlassFish v3.1 clusters

  I am running a java ee 6 ear application on a GlassFish v3.1 ( 2 clusters with 2 instances each) load balanced by an Apache v2.2 with mod_jk - all on the same server (Windows Server 2003 R2, Intel Xeon CPU x5670 @2.93Ghz, 6GB RAM, 2 cpus). The web application is accessed by around ~100 users. When they all try to access it at the same time every morning ~8am, the response is very slow while trying to access the main jsf home page. Apart from that I have seen the CPU usage spike upto 99% by the httpd process during the day frequently and I start seeing errors in the mod_jk.log file. • Internet connectivity issues with one router but work ok with other router

  I have one Tplink ADSL ROUTER and when i enter username and password on setup page then everything works fine. Now i have one more router Netgear router then when i enter same username and password then interworks ok for some 50% websites but for other 50% websites the page is not loaded and it hangs there. In the sats bar it says website found , waiting for reply and it hnags there and no site is displayed. I wonder which setting is different on these two routers. The Tplink router i have bought is from local shop but netgear router is from different country. Can that make some difference

• SQL Server 7 Transaction Logs Issues

  Over the week my database server transaction log was full. With our app people could select from the database but could not update or insert into the database. In the past we have just truncated the transaction logs. After that, everything was back to normal. This week I truncated the transaction logs, and shrink that database. Now we can select, update, and insert into the database. The only issue is when we do a big job, and to a lot on inserting or updating, we get the following error: Database error: S1008:[Microsft][ODBC]Operation canceled We never had this issue before, I am assuming the that is the same as a timeout error. Has anyone else had this issue before, or know how I resolve this?

• Strange FTP issues - some files are not downloaded

  I have a machine, which cannot fetch some files from remote servers by FTP. Machine is powered by CentOS. I tested FTP on three files: 12.09.2012 21:21 166 007 ll091212.002 13.09.2012 11:32 23 040 ll091212.003 13.09.2012 11:50 61 313 ll091212.004 From them, I can always successfully download only one - ll091212.004. Two others are downloaded by about 90% (I can see them on disk) and then FTP transfer hangs without any error messages. I move files, copy them about the remote server - no luck. Another machine from the same subnet can download all three of them easily. I just don't know what's the reason of this.

• Issues with VPN functionality

  I've been working on setting up VPN connectivity to our office location. We bought a Cisco WRV210 which have a builtin VPN server. Cisco has some software QuickVPN, which is not as quick and easy as I had thought. I've had mixed experiences on different machines with connecting. Instead I configured an IPSec VPN tunnel following a guide from TheGreenBow here http://www.thegreenbow.com/doc/tgbvpn_cg_linksys_wrv200_en.pdf I followed their instructions and tried out an evaluation of their software, and VPN connection should be working ok. I'm able to do RDP to a machine on the network (using IP address, not machine name) and ping the router etc. What I'm trying to solve are two things: It's not like I'm "really" on the network. Or at least I'm restricted to some degree when going through the VPN. I can't access a machine on the network using machine name, only IP. I can't ping a machine, but the router just fine. Could this be that something is not set up properly? If so, I can ofcourse supply additional information. Second, when I log onto the VPN, I would really like my outgoing connection to go through the internet connection of the remote location. Basically if I connect to the VPN I want my outgoing IP to be that of the remote location's (needed for some IP resctrictions on some of our servers). At a previous work location it worked like this when we connected to our office VPN over PPTP and the builtin windows VPN client. I'm not a huge expert on the topic, so any hints will be appreciated.

• Issues with FTP on my server

  I installed FTP on my windows 2003 box I created a FTP site on a ipaddress, I am not allowing anonymous access. I created a user that has access to the folder c:\ftptest connecting to my server using filezilla shows: connectiong to -0.0.0.0 connection established, waiting for welcome message could not connect to server I tried both active and passive modes. The port on the server is open i.e. TCP 21 I can connect to other FTP sites so my locla firewall isnt' the issue. (now I know why sys admin work is so fun!)

• FTP issues with Windows 2003 box and Filezilla

  We've set up a Windows 2003 server with IIS 6 and the FTP is Filezilla. I'm not a sys admin by any means and neither is my other developer. I'm trying to connect to FTP on a Mac with a Cyberduck FTP client. I'm running OSX 10.6.3. The problem is that I can connect to the FTP address, but when I do it will hang for a minute or two trying to list the directories. This address is pointed to the webroot folder so it's only trying to list the pertinent folders for the site we're working on. Eventually after a minute or two it will go through and list everything and then if you try and open a file or another folder, it will hang again and then eventually list the folders. My question: Is there some stupid default setting we're missing? Is this a common occurrence? Like I said I'm not a sys admin at all and I'm sure I'm missing some valuable questions for anyone that reads this, so please fire away if you can help and you need more info, I'll do my best to provide it. • Issues with chmod resetting on Ubuntu after ftp upload

  Whenever I overwrite a file using FTP, the chmod of the file gets reset to 600. What can I do prevent this? I'd like to just set the chmod for the entire directory and never have it change.

• Sonicwall NSA 240, Configured for LAN and DMZ, X0 and X2 on same switch - ping issues

  Our Sonicwall vendor supplied and networked the NSA240 when we required a DMZ in our infrastructure. This was configured and appeared correct although VPN users periodically dropped DNS and Terminal Services. The vendor could not resolve and so the call was escalated to Sonicwall. The Sonicwall support engineer took a look and concluded that the X0 (LAN) and X2 (DMZ) intefaces were cabled to the same switch and so this is the issue. What he observed is a ping request to the LAN Domain Controller, from a connected VPN user, is forwarded (x0) from the VPN client IP to the DC IP but the ping response from the DC IP to the VPN client IP is on X2, a copy of the log is detailed below:- 02/02/2011 10:47:49.272 X1*(hc) X0 192.168.1.245 192.168.1.8 IP ICMP -- FORWARDED 02/02/2011 10:47:49.272 -- X0* 192.168.1.245 192.168.1.8 IP ICMP -- FORWARDED 02/02/2011 10:47:49.272 X2*(i) -- 192.168.1.8 192.168.1.245 IP ICMP -- Received X0 - LAN X1 - WAN X2 - DMZ The Sonicwall engineer concluded that we either need a seperate switch for X2 or we use a VLAN switch for both. I am the companies software engineer and we have yet to have heard back from the vendor, so I am lost at sea at the moment. Do we need to buy this additional equipment or is there another configuration on the NSA240 we can use?

• Issues with proftpd on ubuntu server

  I'm in the process of setting up a new server running Ubuntu 9.10 and I need to be able to access my web directory via FTP. I've installed proftpd, opened up port 21 and made sure it was up and running. Everything seems good, but when I try to connect via FTP from my personal computer to the server it times out each time. I've been stuck on this issue for a while now and I would appreciate any help. Any ideas???

• Nginx Restart Issues

They exist on the server but when loading the resources directly in Chrome they say "Oops this page can't be found." I set a special group and user to run my apache files using suexec for my domain files. I think the nginx are owned by root however which I'm assuming is the problem but which nginx file ownerships would I change?

  This is what happens when I scroll a window (click for full-size versions): It can happen in any application, even in Chrome. My computer's specs: ASUS p8z77-v motherboard Intel Core-i7 3770k Intel HD Graphics 4000 integrated VGA Windows 8 Pro x64 I have tried to reinstall VGA drivers, tried to install an older driver from intel.com or asus.com, but no success with resolving the issue. Currently I am using driver version 2867. How can I fix this?
