    We have Windows 2008 R2 Servers and we want to stream content (avi, wmv, mpeg etc) to Windows/Mac OS X/iOS etc devices. The visitor must be able to select the file (s)he want to view withing the library. We tried to accomplish this using: VLC Windows Media Service (WMS) Mediaportal VLC: We didnt find a solution to publish the content in a library WMS: only supports WMV/WMA, needs MediaPlayer MediaPortal: it is not supported on W2k8R2 Server Any suggestions? /chris

  • Moving media files while preserving itunes rating

    Hi, I've seen many threads on how to move an entire media collection from one machine to another. I want to organize my mp3 directories, but any copied file loses its reference from itunes library, thus, when I add it to itunes again, it'll have no rating data. I guess it's possible if I manipulate the itunes xml database, but I really don't want to mess with it "by hand".

  • Recovering from backup without original install media

    A machine from my old job had a complete hard drive failure. I have backups but I'm running into severe problems restoring from them. The only install media was a secondary restore partition on the system's hard drive. I hate whoever came up with that idea more than i can possibly express with words. I spent several days trying to recover the disk - it is pretty well shot and none of my best tricks could even get it to show up in the bios/ The machine that broke is an hp with xp media center edition on it (I don't know why either). The backups were created using the default windows backup tool - I have .bfk file on an external hardrive that i am trying to restore from. I've replaced the hard drive. My home machine is running windows 7 64bit and i'm trying to use it as a platform to restore to the other disk. I downloaded the window 7 nt-restore utility, however no matter what i do it restores to my C drive rather than the specified drive. Fortunately win7 security settings prevented it from being a complete disaster - but still not a happy thing. I tried firing up the xp virtual machine. I can browse to the backups but it says they are invalid and refuse to let me view/ continue with the restore. I tried installing XP to an extra harddrive on my machine - however it bluescreens on me during the install process and I cry. I tried installing xp pro to the new drive and attempted to restore over it, it of course blackscreened on me as that was a stupid idea. I made two partitions on the new hard drive (Apparently the bios on this accursed piece of junk doesn't allow hd partitions larger than 200G anyways and thus fails 40 minutes into the install with an ever-descriptive "Disk Read Error". Guess how i spent last weekend? My last idea was to install xp pro to the second partition and then use it to restore from backup to the first. After the first restart it gives me the error "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware". My brain made one of those bad hard drive clicky noises. I've tried several boot disks but they don't seem to work. If anyone has a link to a good one it would be greatly appreciated. Anyone have any more ideas? - I really hate asking on what seems like such a simple issue but i am quite literally at my wit's end.     I have a large assortment of media that is currently arranged using folders. As the library has grown I've started to notice that folders aren't the best at conveying meaning. Also as the number of folders serving as categories/tags has grown has lead to data duplication for not realizing it was already filed under a different tag. As I started to think about this I realized tag cloud visualization would be tremendously powerful and figured there has to be something like this out there.

Question: Is there any other plugin with this functionality, or possibly would it be possible to write such plugin (resources?). I hardly use it but once in a while I notice that its taking up gigs and gigs of space...which is due to the fact that it auto-"magically" starts recording shows on its own.   • libvirt upgrade caused vms to not see drives (boot media not found)

    I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04.1 and now libvirt (via open nebula) successfully runs vms but they aren't finding the 2 drives (specifically, the boot drive). One is "hd" the other is "cdrom". The machine boots but fails and displays something like "boot media not found hd" (this was in a vnc terminal and I didn't copy the output anywhere so that's not the verbatim message). I tried constructing a new disk using the new version of qemu (via vmbuilder) and this new machine has the same problem as the old machine. In case it matters (I can't see why it would) I'm using open nebula to manage the machines. There's nothing relevant in any of the logs: syslog, libvirtd, oned. Which is to say nothing interesting/anomalous is reported when the machine is brought up. Thankfully, Flash Media Live Encoder has a checkbox to un-include audio. I am wondering how I can push a recorded message to the audio ( or music ).   • Sharing laptop's internal optical drive running windows XP Media Center Edition with Netbook running

    just got a new HP netbook with no optical drive and guide said I should be able to share the optical drive of another windows computer. The netbook is running Windows 7 and the laptop, also HP, with the internal optical drive is running Windows XP Media Center Edition. I have wireless network that both the laptop and netbook access without a problem. The instructions did not seem to work in my case. When I right clicked on Properties of the optical drive and went to the Sharing tab, there was no selction for Advanced Sharing as the instructions said. XP made me go to Network wizard and set up a network, (which I already had). After doing that I could not access the drive from Windows 7. Has anyone benn able to do this?

This is part of my isolinux.cfg file: label vesa menu label Install ^RAIDIX system kernel vmlinuz append initrd=initrd.img xdriver=vesa nomodeset text linux ks=cdrom:/isolinux/ks.cfg If I specify parameter ks=cdrom:/isolinux/ks.cfg my iso will boot only from cd or dvd-rom. If I specify parameter ks=hd:<device>:/ks.cfg my iso will boot only from usb-drive. Can I specify ks parameter to boot from both type of installation media?

  • Dell Media Direct is rebooting my machine when it goes into sleep mode

    I've got a Dell Studio 1535 laptop, which shipped w/ Vista 32-bit. I've since formatted and installed Windows 7 64-bit. Everything has been fine for months, but recently, every time I leave my machine unattended and it goes to sleep, it wakes with the Dell Media Direct splash screen, and then goes to the "Windows was not shut down properly..." dialog that asks if you want to boot safe mode/start Windows normally/etc. The stupid button is also stuck on currently, but even when it is off, the problem still occurs. From the searching I've done, I've learned that the program is installed on its own partition, but I'm fairly certain I formatted everything. See screenie of my partitions: How can I stop the madness? Update: I've removed the 39 MB OEM Partition and it is still happening.

  • mini linux for browsing media playing

    I'm looking for a small linux install (<100Mb) that can just run a browser and ideally a media player. It's to fit in a spare recovery partition on my laptop and be a quick boot for non-work stuff when I'm on the road. I have used Puppy-linux and DSL before but they have lots of stuff I don't need. Is there something like these that just concentrates on running a browser in the way xbmc does for videos? ps. The size requirement was to fit in the existing 100Mb win7 recovery partition, but that can be resized. The main idea was something that booted very quickly without the 10min wait while windows does all the corporate stuff and realizes it isn't on the LAN - and could be shutdown instantly.

    I have downloaded Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32 bit, burned it on DVD and tried to install it on my PC. My PC is running in Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit mounted on the C: drive. Now I want install Ubuntu along with my Windows 7. When I boot Ubuntu through the CD, It boots and the Ubuntu install windows opens It offers "Try Ubuntu" and "Install Ubuntu". I choose "Install Ubuntu" Then I go on to install Ubuntu with Windows(First Option)-install It shows some blank screen with some lines, and says "Please Remove installation media and close tray and press enter" Then the PC restarts and runs Windows 7 same as before normally. But Ubuntu is not installed. How to solve this problem and install Ubuntu on my PC properly? Note: I am an Android Developer. So I need to install Ubuntu for my Android Development purpose.

What is the best way to realize my setup? Any short how-tos? How can I announce all players to use the proxy? Route all rtsp/mms/http-requests through my proxy? Announce the proxy with DHCP-releases?     My Iomega Home Media NAS would not boot, so I unscrewed the enclosure and removed the drive out. It's a 500 GB SATA drive that I plugged into my Win 7 PC so that I could backup the data. Windows does recognize it (it's there in disk management) but I can't assign a letter to it in order to access it. The only option available is Delete Volume... which I obviously don't want to do :) How can I accomplish getting the data off that drive? Thanks.

  • Installing win xp media center 2005

    I have a Dell 710 XPS H2C running Vista Business, I wish to clean install Win XP media center 2005. I wiped my hard drive with Wipe Drive Pro and proceeded to install Win XP, the install starts and goes thru the various prompts but when it comes to 'installing windows' I get a blue screen that flashes briefly (to fast to get the error code) and then reboots. This happens with any XP system disk (iv'e tried 4), but it installs Vista, 7 or Linux with no problems. I contacted Dell Support who have yet to give me any solutions to resolve the problem. Is there anyone out there with any ideas please.
