  Just I am only six months experienced guy in software industry.Due to recession season,a large volume of employees from our company are asked to leave.This impact affects the new inexperienced guys. The problem is We have to interact with the client directly to gather the requirement We have to design all HLD and LLD ,use cases and DB Diagrams ,that should staisfy the customers who keeping the high software insdutry standards In this do or die situation (Client gives us narrow dead line),we spend most of time with interacting client (only less time is available for development and testing,even sit out for 24 X 7 won't help us to finish our task) If task will not be finished with in the expected time frame ,that will trigger poor performance ration to our profile There are two important questions flashing in our mind : (1) Quit the job and do other business (2) Face the challenge : (if the option is to face the challenge ,What are all the tools should we follow to automate requirement gathering,testing,DB diagram,Code review and the rest.(We are working on ASP.NET 3.5 with SQL Server 2005).

  I am currently drawing up specs on a new workstation for my office. I am considering the Asus P6X58D for a motherboard. This board's specs list it as supporting 24 gigs of memory. Suppose I were to use six four gig memory cards and then two video cards with 1 gig of memory apiece. Is the maximum supported memory similar to how 32 bit operating systems only have enough address space for 4 gigs of memory? Simply: Will the board post? If so, will the system be able to address all the memory, both the 24 gigs on the ddr3 bus and the 3 gigs on the graphics card?

• Approaches to wrapping access to functionality in .NET MVC?

  What are some different solutions to wrapping access to functionality within a .NET MVC application? For example, I have six tabs that represent different areas of the application and within area 1, there is the ability to add, edit, upload, whatever. I need a central way to say: Build some dictionary of what the user can do Wrap tabs, buttons, links, etc, validate the user can access this piece of functionality and show/hide appropriately. I know I can restrict access to actions via action filters and roles, but what about from the UI? Any help would be appreciated. I am sure I am not the only one who has needed to do this, thanks!

• Cheap windows driver signing for 64 bit Windows 7

  I need to install the libusb-win32 driver on Windows 7 64 bit machines. This driver is open source so it is not digitally signed so I want to do this my self but I wonder if this can be done WITHOUT paying lot of money. Is it possible to use a certificate which is NOT signed by Verisign or GlobalSign? Maybe self-signed or by using StartSSL instead? And if yes, how do I do it? According to this howto I have to use a "cross-certificate" (And there are only six available on the Microsoft list and most of them are for CAs which are no longer active) I don't care if the user is confronted with a warning message. I can even accept if the user has to install a special CA certificate first. I only require that the driver runs without manually disabling the signature check on each windows startup.

• Google Web Optimizer -- How long until winning combination?

  I've had an A/B Test running in Google Web Optimizer for six weeks now, and there's still no end in sight. Google is still saying: "We have not gathered enough data yet to show any significant results. When we collect more data we should be able to show you a winning combination." Is there any way of telling how close Google is to making up its mind? (Does anyone know what algorithm does it use to decide if there's been any "high confidence winners"?) According to the Google help documentation: Sometimes we simply need more data to be able to reach a level of high confidence. A tested combination typically needs around 200 conversions for us to judge its performance with certainty. But all of our conversions have over 200 conversations at the moment: 230 / 4061 (Original) 223 / 3937 (Variation 1) 205 / 3984 (Variation 2) 205 / 4007 (Variation 3) How much longer is it going to have to run?? • Possible Performance Considerations using Linq to SQL Repositories

  I have an ASP.NET MVC application that uses Linq to SQL repositories for all interactions with the database. To deal with data security, I do trimming to filter data to only those items to which the user has access. This occurs in several places: Data in list views Links in a menu bar A treeview on the left hand side containing links to content Role-based security A special security attribute, inheriting from AuthorizeAttribute, that implements content-based authorization on every controller method. Each of these places instantiates a repository, which opens a Linq to Sql DataContext and accesses the database. So, by my count, each request for a page access opens at least six separate Linq to SQL DataContexts. Should I be concerned about this from a performance perspective, and if so, what can be done to mitigate it?

• Create a view like Tweetie's User Profile view

  Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea on how you can create a view that looks like the user profile view in apps like Tweetie, where there are seemingly multiple tables with a couple of normal (straight up and down tables) and then two rows of six cells, which in Tweeties case have the number of followers, following etc. I'm trying to make a similar view for my app, but can't seem to find out the best way to create it.   My MySQL tables structure is like this. USER int id varchar username FRIEND_LIST int user_id int friend_id For each friend relationship I insert 2 records in FRIEND_LIST. If user 1 is friend of user 2 then the next rows are inserted into FRIEND_LIST 1,2 2,1 I want to get the friends and friends of friends of an specific user. The select should return columns a, b, c. a: user_id b: friend_id c: username (username of friend_id ) If 1 is friend of 2 and 3. 2 is friend of 3, 4 and 5 3 is friend of 5,6,7 Then the query to get 1's friends and friends of friends should return: 1 2 two 1 3 three 2 1 one 2 3 three 2 4 four 2 5 five 3 1 one 3 5 five 3 6 six 3 7 seven Can I get this rows with a single query?

• Access to path denied when saving an image with ASP.NET 4.0 project

  I have an existing application that was written in .NET 3.5. The piece of code in question is using the FileUpload control and its SaveAs method. Its worked perfectly for the past six months, but I've recently upgraded the project to .NET 4.0 and I'm now receiving an "Access to path (...) is denied" every time the method is called. It works fine locally in dev mode but fails on my prod server. I've upgraded the website to run under .NET 4.0 and I've made sure the account (Network Service) it runs under in the app pool has full control. Other than upgrading to .NET 4.0, nothing has changed for the project. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

• Dashboard pattern: HorizontalScrollView with pagination or ScrollView?

  I am starting a new application and I am willing to use the Dashboard pattern. For example: The Google IO app uses it: My issue is that the amount of buttons will be more than six. I'm not sure if I should use vertical or horizontal scrolling. Vertical scrolling could be done with a ScrollView or a GridView but I am not sure which would be the easier way to implement the horizontal version. I was thinking of using an HorizontalScrollView but it doesn't have pagination. It should feel similar to the tweetdeck app. How would you implement it?

  Hello, im using leaveNotice plugin and example from authors page (example number six, the last one) On the site all looks all right in both chrome and ie8. When im implement this in my page, in chrome all still looks ok, but ie as usually messed it up. Background appears under the text and pop up appears under the background. It's propably issue with css, but im not have css skills to fix it up. Plus with same css on example site all looks all right, im a lil bit confuse, help me please.

The typical pattern is to present a challenge to each URL that is opened, yet the challenge doesn't actually belong to the page itself which causes additional bandwidth usage.   I'd like to know how best to program three different editions of my C# ASP.NET 3.5 application in VS2008 Professional (which includes a web deployment project). I have a Light, Pro and Ultimate edition (or version) of my application. At the moment I've put all in one solution with three build versions in configuration manager and I use preprocessor directives all over the code (there are around 20 such constructs in some ten thousand lines of code, so it's overseeable): #if light //light code #endif #if pro //pro code #endif //etc... I've read in stackoverflow for hours and thought to encounter how e.g. Microsoft does this with its different Windows editions, but did not find what I expected. Somewhere there is a heavy discussion about if preprocessor directives are evil. What I like with those #if-directives is: the side-by-side code of differences, so I will understand the code for the different editions after six months and the special benefit to NOT give out compiled code of other versions to the customer. OK, long explication, repeated question: What's the best way to go?

• JButtons re-enable themselves after being disabled

  I have an array of JButtons which form a keypad interface. After six numbers are entered I want to disable the keypad so that no further numbers can be entered by the user. I have written the code and the buttons do disable until the mouse hovers above any of them, then the buttons seem to re-enable themselves and run actionEvents added to them. The full code is available here. Possible things that I think are wrong. There is some sort of MouseListener which is ignoring when I set button.setEnabled(false); I haven't separated attributes from the buildGUI(); correctly, I only did this anyway so that the inner class could access them. Possibly something to do with the gridLayout as disabling the buttons seems to work for my services JPanel buttons.

If I'm right, the number of possible combinations is (S+N-1)!/S!(N-1)!, where S is the number of dice, each with N sides numbered 1 through N. (It is different from the well known combinations formula because it is possible for the same number to appear on more than one dice). For example, when throwing four six-sided dice, N=6 and S=4, so the number of possible combinations is (4+6-1)!/4!(6-1)! = 9!/4!x5! = 126. How can I generate a matrix of these 126 possible outcomes? • String Occurance Counting Algorithm

  Hello, I am curious what is the most efficient algorithm (or commonly used) to count the number of occurances of a string in a chunck of text. From what I read, Boyer–Moore string search algorithm is the standard for string search but I am not sure if counting occurance in an efficient way would be same as searching a string. In python this is what I want: text_chunck = "one two three four one five six one" occurance_count(text_chunck, "one") # gives 3. Regards EDIT: It seems like python str.count serves me such method however I am not able to find what algorithm it uses.

• Portfolio problem on a flash template

  Hi guys! I have another question about the same template as before. in my website. (www.nikstudio.cl) I need to show in the webpage's portfolio (menu "trabajos") show a few pictures. If you click the thumbnail picture you can see the full size version of that thumbnail. My problem are two: First the picture one and two are the same as five a six ( and i can't change it cause i don't find the place to do this.) And the second is when I copy and paste (in a new layer) of the movieclip "sprite 656" i get in the swf a new picture on the portfolio but i can't click it.   For our .net 3.5 web project, what are the files which needs to be included under VSS 6.0? We have a distributed team of three vendors working on separate modules of our .net portal and all of them maintain their own setup and during release they send across the final build. No surprises that this has caused much headache and we have decided that we will keep this environment under our control and checkout the files when required. This is a multi-part questionnaire and to clear some basics first, we would like to know which are the important files to be kept under VSS6.0. Yes we know VSS 6.0 is outdated but we are playing a catchup game and till we move either to TFS or Subversion( atleast six months down the line) we need a VSS strategy. TIA

  I'm currently trying to build a RDP client in python and I came across the following issue with a len check; From: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc240836%28v=prot.10%29.aspx "81 2a - ConnectData::connectPDU length = 298 bytes Since the most significant bit of the first byte (0x81) is set to 1 and the following bit is set to 0, the length is given by the low six bits of the first byte and the second byte. Hence, the value is 0x12a, which is 298 bytes." This sounds weird. For normal len checks, I'm simply using : struct.pack("h",len(str(PacketLen))) but in this case, I really don't see how I can calculate the len as described above. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated !

  We're implementing a blog for a site which supports six different languages and five of them have non-Latin characters in their alphabets. We are not sure whether we should have them encoded (that is what we're doing at the moment) Létání s potravinami: Co je dovoleno? becomes l%c3%a9t%c3%a1n%c3%ad-s-potravinami-co-je-dovoleno and the browser displays it as létání-s-potravinami-co-je-dovoleno. or if we should replace them with their Latin "counterparts" (similar looking letters) Létání s potravinami: Co je dovoleno? becomes letani-s-potravinami-co-je-dovoleno. I can't find a definitive answer as to what's better from SEO perspective? Search engine optimization is very important for us. Which approach would you suggest?

• How to trigger code on two different servers in a WAS cluster?

  I have an administrative page in a web application that resets the cache, but it only resets the cache on the current JVM. The web application is deployed as a cluster to two WAS servers. Any way that I can elegantly have the "clear cache" button on each server trigger the method on both JVMs? Edit: The original developer just wrote a singleton holding a HashMap to be the cache in question. Lightweight and (previously) worked just fine for the requirements. It caches content pulled from six or seven web services for specified amounts of time. Edit: The entire application in question is three pages, so the elegant solution might well be the lightest solution.
