• Setting the Server Port in D-Link Router for eMailing Logs

  Does anyone know how to set the port for the email server in the Status->Log section of the D-Link DI-524? I’ve tried the setting below but it does not seem to work. I don’t want to use the default port 25 if I can avoid it. (No, the server and email address in the snap are irrelevant, you can replace the server with hotmail.com or whatever and address with a valid one; the question I am trying to figure out is how to set the port.)

• Weird symbols on Mac

  Since I've had my mac, I keep seeing this weird symbol. Till today, it had been only in the place of bullet points in OpenOffice.org. The first pictures shows this in a .doc file created on a Windows system. I thought nothing of it - just an annoyance. It appears no matter what the font. Real bullets appear if I delete the text and insert a bulletted list using the toolbar. Then, today I noticed in in iTunes - which seemed strange. Image 3 is a zoom of the character. It says on it: Private Use E000 F8FF. What is it (unicode related?), and how do I get the bullets working properly? Edit: The plot thickens... If I boot in Safe Mode, the symbols look like little snap boards like you'd have at the beginning of filming a scene in a film...

• Why does the task pictogram flashes instead of opening the program?

  Sometimes, when I select a click a program on the Windows 7 taskbar it won't appear (it doesn't gain focus and remains behind other open windows), and the icon will flash and turn orange. This happens reasonably frequently, and I've had it happen on two separate Windows installs on different machines. It just happened now and the only programs I have with active windows are Chrome, WMP and Explorer (2). It happened when I clicked Explorer. Once this has happened to one window, it affects all windows, and the only way I can switch between programs is by finding the window manually or using Windows+Tab. The only way I've come across to get the computer to snap out of this annoying behaviour is to restart the machine. Is there a way of stopping it? • How do you import an EPS file in Inkscape?

  I'm using Inkscape, and I'm trying to import an EPS file to use it as a vector and eventually save it as an SVG. This link here mentions several methods: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=797 But the responses aren't rated since it's a forum, so I thought I'd ask here to find the best answer. I'd prefer not to have to use some website to convert the file to a PDF first. Either way, when I import an EPS into Inkscape, or use the website to convert it to a PDF, in both cases the resulting file loses all colour and gradients, and the EPS file gets cut off on the right side. It looks like ps2pdf is clipping the file incorrectly, and Inkscape is eliminating the colour. I have these version installed in Ubuntu Lucid Linux: Inskape 0.47.0-2ubuntu2 Ghostscript 8.71.dfsg.1-0ubuntu5.3

• Windows Server Backup 2008 - Language Incompatibilities?

  I have 2 Windows 2008 Server R2 machines - one is Japanese language based and the other English. When I try to connect from the English language server using Windows Server Backup (snap-in) I get the following message: "An internal error has occurred in the backup engine or the computer that you are connected to remotely is running a version of backup application that is not compatible with the version on your local computer" Both claim to be running Version 1 of Windows Server Backup. Is remote connection to non-identical language server OSs a known problem? Specifically this is seen when attempting the "Connect To Another Server" in the action pane of Windows Server Backup.

  I'm getting errors in ~/.xession-errors. I'm running ubuntu 12.04 Many apps fail to run without mention of problems in the .xsession-errors file. I looked around and tried to resolve issues myself but failed so far. I have to say it's possible that the issue is related to me mounting /home on another partition. (I say possibly because stuff worked ok for a while.) Fortunately my .xsession-errors file is small enough to post here. • Seemingly random 404's for static files in Pyramid project

  I'm running a Pyramid project with mod_wsgi. Some of the files in my static directory (images, stylesheets, javascript) load fine, but others are coming up as not found. The files that are not working are all web fonts (otf, svg, woff and eot). I tried adding a text file into the static directory where the fonts are to see if I could access it, but it also came back with 404. The same text file also can't be accessed when put in the images folder. From what I'm looking at, it doesn't seem to be a permissions issue. Any ideas?

• Finding Locked Out Users

  Active Directory up to 2008 network (our servers are a mix of 2008, 2003...) I'm looking for a quick way to query AD to find out what users are locked out, preferably from a batch or script file, to monitor for possible issues with either user accounts being attacked by an automated attack or just anomalies in the network. I've Googled and my Google-fu has failed; I found a query off Microsoft's own knowledgebase that cites a string to use on Server 2003 with the management snap-in's saved queries (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555131) but when I entered it, the query returned 400 users that a spot-check showed did NOT have a checkmark in the "Account is locked out" box under "account." In fact, I don't see anything wrong with their accounts. Is there a simple utility (wisesoft bulkadusers apparently uses this method behind the scenes, since it's results were also wrong) that will give a count of users and possibly their user object names? Script? Something?

• Filemaker Server Not Installing and Windows Problems

  When I tried installing Filemaker Server 8.0 on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition R2, an error message pop up that states: MMC has detected an error in a snap-in. It is recommended that you shut down and restart MMC. After this message pops up, Filemaker Server freezes. I'm also having problems with openssl and running executable files, but am not sure if the 2 are related. Error message for openssl states: Openssl.exe encountered a problem and needed to close. In one of the computers connected to the network running this same Server 2003 R2, when I tried double-clicking on Dr. Web antivirus to do a scan, nothing happens. I have done this many times before reinstalling the server, and it never gave trouble before this. Any help given is appreciated.

  I recently got a shiny new laptop; moving my shiz from old to new, was not the nightmare it used to be. I have gotten into the habit of using a second hard drive in the media bay where the CDROM normally sits. That drive contains my life's work with BIP. I can pull it out and plug it into another machine very easily. I have been sorting through some old directories and files, archiving some, sharing others with colleagues. For instance, a little dated but if you were looking for a list of Publisher reports available in EBS R12.1, here it is. Im trying to track down a more recent R12 instance and will re-post the document. I also found another gem; its a little out there in terms of usefulness but Im sharing it none the less. You can embed, locally or remotely reference SVG graphics (in XML format) and bring the images into the BIP outputs. Template and sample data here. A nice set of templates showing page number control and page suppression - they will need some explanation, so I'll save them for another post. The list goes on but I'll save them for later. Back to the clean up!

• Rendering a DOM across multiple displays

  I'm building a data-driven animation with HTML and javascript to run in a web browser. I would like to display it tiled across three 1080p monitors. This essentially yields a viewport that's 5760px wide and 1080px tall. Pretty large. Does anyone have experience setting up something like this? I have many questions below, but any tip would be appreciated: Is it reasonable to expect a DOM to render into such a large viewport size at close to 60fps? I might choose to use canvas, instead of SVG or HTML, but that would yield a giant canvas. Can a canvas with such high resolution be performant? Of course everything depends on the complexity of the graphics I want to render, but I'm looking to remove that factor from this question, so assume I'm asking about a canvas animation that can run at 60fps at 1920x1080 resolution. Would it run roughly as fast at 3 times the width? Would three.js and WebGL be a more proper approach at that resolution? How do you actually cause Chrome or FF to span 3 monitors at full screen? Do I need a 3rd party solution of any kind? Thanks!

• Why does deleting from the command line take significantly less time than from a GUI?

  So this is probably the dumbest question you'll read today, but it's something I just wondered about as I was deleting a dozen or so images from my computer. With a quick rm -rf command on the directory's contents, all the images were gone in a snap. When I drag the same dozen or so images to a trash can/recycle ban, it takes sometimes 10 seconds or more. Now I'm sure some of it comes from the overhead of the GUI and such, and some of it may be the fact that the file still "exists" in some form if it's put into the recycle bin, but is there anything else that accounts for such a huge time disparity? Are "rm" and "delete" just such fundamentally different commands so I'm trying to compare apples and oranges? Enlighten me, please!

• Are there any Powershell modules specifically for IIS6 administration?

  I'm looking to manage/administer many IIS6 servers remotely via Powershell (query sites, iis settings, etc). Is this possible? Is there a Microsoft-supported module out there? Or do I have to use WMI-Object/WebAdministration? If so, could some one give me some quick instructions on doing some simple "get info" commands in Powershell to a remote IIS6 machine? (It's frustrating that there is a nice IIS7/Microsoft-supported module out there: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/428/getting-started-with-the-iis-70-powershell-snap-in/ But not an IIS6 one easily found.)

• DNS record reappears after having been deleted

  I've got a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 acting as a domain controller for a small network. It provides DHCP and DNS among a few other services. It's only got a single NIC, but it's configured with two IP addresses. I want it's name to resolve to one of the two IP addresses assigned to its NIC. I've unchecked "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" under the "Advanced TCP/IP Settings". Currently we've got two distinct DNS Host (A) records for this domain controller: dc-001 - 10.0.0.1 dc-001 - 10.0.100.1 I've deleted the first entry but it continues to reappear in my dnsmgmt snap-in. Unfortunately I'm not a Microsoft systems administrator by trade. Does anyone familiar with Microsoft server environments know why a deleted Host (A) record would reappear? Is there another check-box I need to toggle? Thanks in advance to all of you Microsoft experts out there.

  I am facing boot loop. My backend Linux works flawlessly, But the Zygote and System server does not workout. I can still use ADB and LIVE cat .. ps show that both Zygote and system_server process are there, But boot animation remains forever !! I have : 1 Wiped Data + Cache Partition 2 System Partition has been RESTORED.. There is NO PERMISSION problem... • What causes Remote Desktop Services Manager to crash in Server 2008 R2?

  I have this consistent problem of RDSM crashing in Server 2008 R2. It is either really slow to open, sometimes never opens, or after it's been open and working properly for a bit, stops working, and forces an unload of the snap-in. It's done this since the deployment of this server, new hardware, new instance of S2k8. Domain Administrator login. I am using it to manage 3 Terminal Servers, the other two are S2k3. I've used it without issues on other 2008 servers.

• Pros and Cons of Facebook's React vs. Web Components (Polymer)

  What are the main benefits of Facebook's React over the upcoming Web Components spec and vice versa (or perhaps a more apples-to-apples comparison would be to Google's Polymer library)? According to this JSConf EU talk and the React homepage, the main benefits of React are: Decoupling and increased cohesion using a component model Abstraction, Composition and Expressivity Virtual DOM & Synthetic events (which basically means they completely re-implemented the DOM and its event system) Enables modern HTML5 event stuff on IE 8 Server-side rendering Testability Bindings to SVG, VML, and <canvas> Almost everything mentioned is being integrated into browsers natively through Web Components except this virtual DOM concept (obviously). I can see how the virtual DOM and synthetic events can be beneficial today to support old browsers, but isn't throwing away a huge chunk of native browser code kind of like shooting yourself in the foot in the long term? As far as modern browsers are concerned, isn't that a lot of unnecessary overhead/reinventing of the wheel? Here are some things I think React is missing that Web Components will care of. Correct me if I'm wrong. Native browser support (read "guaranteed to be faster") Write script in a scripting language, write styles in a styling language, write markup in a markup language.   I got a web site design in PSD file from a web-designer. All element s there snap to guides, which is handy when I make a selection to copy an element of design to a PNG file: guides make my selection precise. One button there has two states: normal and hover. Both states contains of several layers. So I am trying to copy both states as PNG files in order to make a nice button in html. The problem is that both states have shadow effects, which go beyond the layers' edges, i.e. when I try to select a button my selection (snapped to guides) does not include an outer part of the shadow. How do I make a precise selection of the button state in such situation?

• How can you import a root certificate to a machine level store in Windows 7

  I have a service (Running as local system) that uses an SSL connection. Currently this connection fails because the remote host used a private CA to sign it's certificate. For previous operating systems, I used to use the certificate manager to import the CA cert into the local machine's Trusted Root certificates store. Though I can do the steps with a windows 7 machine, it seems after a reboot that the imported certificates are gone. Here are the steps I'm doing in Windows 7: Open mmc Add Certificates Snap-in for Local Machine Navigate to Third-Party Root Certification Authorities/Certificates Import Root CA Cert. The certificate seems to work fine, using internet explorer or the service to test the SSL connection works, but after a reboot it seems like the change is reverted.

  Hi, I've a situation where I want to start Google Chrome browser without any window appearing in Linux. This might sound weird but my intention is launch it faster than it already does. I've noticed that if Chrome is already running, then opening a new windows opens in a snap!!. I thought I'll keep it running in background and when needed open a new window by clicking its icon. • How do I get mouse x / y of the world plane in Unity?

  I am trying to make a tiled landscape. The terrain itself is not made from tiles but the world has a grid which I define. I would like to place boxes/rectangles which snap to this grid, at runtime, but in order for me to do that I must get a projection from the user screen to the real-world coordinates. I have tried various examples using the Ray class but nothing worked. It compiles and outputs a constant value no matter where I put the mouse. I have tried to add some tiles and try to detect them but no luck. I also tried with one plane as big as my world but still no luck. I am using C# but even a JS version would be helpful. This technique involves calculating which tile the mouse is under by the x and y positions. Perhaps detecting which tile itself is being pointed to would be a simpler task, at which point I can just retrieve its i/j properties. • How can I select multiple windows to tile in Window 7 (like you could in previous versions)?

  I've disabled Aero Snap, is there any way to restore the old method of window arrangement allowing you to do side by side, or top and bottom, etc.? All you had to do before is select the windows you want and right click. I know the menu is still there in Windows 7 but it is only for the whole Task Bar, and you can also do it from the Task Manager but that is more complex to get too. After looking all around I cannot find a way to restore any such right click menu for each application. Is there a way to tile like this for individual windows or groups?

• Temporarily disable window snapping in xfce4

  I'm using Xubuntu 12.04 and I can move windows by pressing Alt and then dragging a window. I have window snapping enabled via xfce4-settings-manager (Window Manager / Advanced tab / Snap windows to screen border). I like the snapping feature in general, however sometimes it gets in the way. Is there a way to temporarily disable snapping while doing this? Obviously I can open the settings manager, disable, move, enable, but I'm looking for a less intrusive solution, especially if there's something built in already (e.g. pressing Shift in addition to Alt to disable snapping or something along these lines) or a plugin of some sorts.
