    First post here. I have a asp/vb6 web app that logs in a user I want to encrypt the users identity field and pass(querystring) it to a asp.net app and then decrypt it to do a db lookup. I've google'd it of course and found rot13, not secure enough. I've also found some hits on MD5 / RC4 but did not find any good examples of encrypt / decrypt. Thanks, Michael

    Using MSSQL2005, Can I truncate a table with a foreign key constraint if I first truncate the child table(the table with the primary key of the FK relationship)? I know I can use a DELETE without a where clause and then RESEED the identity OR Remove the FK, truncate and recreate but I thought as long as you truncate the child table you'll be OK however I'm getting a "Cannot truncate table 'TableName' because it is being referenced by a FOREIGN KEY constraint." error.

    Basically I want to use uniqueidentifier in similar way as identity. I don't want to insert values into it, It should just insert values automatically, different value for each row. I'm not able to set autoincrement on columns of type uniqueidentifier(the property 'autoincrement' is set to false and is not editable).

    I'm writing a DLL that has function for getting Alfresco login ticket without using user password, using only a user principal name (UPN). I’m calling alfresco REST API service /wcservice. I use NTLM in Alfresco. I’m impersonating users using WindowsIdentity constructor as explained here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998351.aspx#paght000023_impersonatingbyusingwindowsidentity. I checked and user is properly impersonated (I checked WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name property). After impersonating a user, I try to make HttpWebRequest and set its credentials with CredentialsCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials. I get the error: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() When I use new NetworkCredential("username", "P@ssw0rd") to set request credentials, I get Alfresco login ticket (HttpStatusCode.OK, 200). Is there any way that I can get Alfresco login ticket without user password? I have no problem getting the other non-collection fields back. Now I want to know how to detect whether this application is running as root inside the application itself. I tried to check user name like below and see whether they equal to "root", Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name Process.GetCurrentProcess().StartInfo.UserName AppDomain.CurrentDomain.ApplicationIdentity.FullName The first two are empty strings always, while the third throws NullReferenceException. Please advise if this is doable on Mono 2.6.

    I have a WCF service that takes a stream: [ServiceContract] public class UploadService : BaseService { [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(BodyStyle=WebMessageBodyStyle.Bare, Method=WebRequestMethods.Http.Post)] public void Upload(Stream data) { // etc. } } This method is to allow my Silverlight application to upload large binary files, the easiest way being to craft the HTTP request by hand from the client. Here is the code in the Silverlight client that does this: const int contentLength = 64 * 1024; // 64 Kb var request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://localhost:8732/UploadService/"); request.AllowWriteStreamBuffering = false; request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Http.Post; request.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"; request.ContentLength = contentLength; using (var outputStream = request.GetRequestStream()) { outputStream.Write(new byte[contentLength], 0, contentLength); outputStream.Flush(); using (var response = request.GetResponse()); } Now, in the case above, where I am streaming 64 kB of data (or less), this works OK and if I set a breakpoint in my WCF method, and I can examine the stream and see 64 kB worth of zeros - yay! In my case this will be an GUID identifing the user's session on the webserver. Anyone got any exprience on this.. Maybe I have misunderstood the concept? Any idea's or links would be apriciated.

    Hi, I am getting the following errors: "The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request" "Requested time out" sometimes when connecting to a host using a web service. If the XML returned is 5 kb then it is working fine, but if the size is 450kb or above it is displaying the error. Below is my code as well as the config file that resides at the client system. We don't have access to the settings of the server. Right-click to disable truncation. * But in config the number 16348 is not mentioned anywhere. Can you figure out if the error is on client or server side? The settings above are on the client side.
