  • Asynchronous PHP calls?

    - by UltimateBrent
Is there a way to PHP make asynchronous http calls? I don't care about the response, I just want to do something like file_get_contents(), but not wait on the request to finish before executing the rest of my code. This would be super useful for setting off "events" of a sort in my application, or triggering long processes. Any ideas?

  • backbonejs remove anomaly concept

    - by user1537158
I was building a small app for adding and deleting li from ul using Backbonejs. One of the SO members cymen helped me code it, using that i tailored the code a little.currently if i add one element and delete , it works , but the second time i add an element (to ul) and go to delete it , i get Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method 'remove' of undefined Pasting my code here , HTML : <input type="text" id="name"> <button id="add">Add</button> <ul id="mylist"></ul> JS: $(function(){ var myCollection = Backbone.Collection.extend(); var myView = Backbone.View.extend({ el:$('body'), tagName:'li', initialize : function(e){ this.collection.bind("add",this.render,this); this.collection.bind("remove",this.render,this); }, events:{ 'click #add' : 'addfoo' }, addfoo : function(){ var myname= $('#name').val(); $('#name').val(''); this.collection.add({name:myname}); }, render : function(){ $('#mylist').empty(); this.collection.each(function(model){ console.log("myView"); var remove = new myRemoveView({model:model}); remove.render(); }); } }); var myRemoveView = Backbone.View.extend({ el:$('body'), events:{ 'click .button':'removeFoo' }, removeFoo : function(){ console.log("here"); this.model.collection.remove(this.model); }, render : function(){ console.log("second view"); $('#mylist').append('<li>'+this.model.get('name') + "<button class='button'>"+"delete"+"</button></li>"); return; } }); var view = new myView({collection: new myCollection()}); }); Two things i did not understand : i) in the removeFoo function , we write this.model.collection.remove(this.model) shouldnt this have been this.collection.model.remove , something of that sort ? ii) i add a li to ul , then i delete it , when i add another li (appending to ul works perfect) but this time when i go to delete it throws me the above error : Uncaught TypeError :cannot call method 'remove' of undefined can you please help me figure out these 2 doubts in my code , btw SO member cymen's code works like a charm only my tailored code (above) is giving me errors. SO member cymen's code : JS Fiddle for his code Thank you

  • Mobile Safari text selection after input field focus

    - by Andy
I have some legacy html that needs to work on old and new browsers (down to IE7) as well as the iPad. The iPad is the biggest issues because of how text selection is handled. On a page there is a textarea as well as some text instructions. The instructions are in a <div> and the user needs to be able to select the instructions. The problem is that once focus is placed in the textarea, the user cannot subsequently select the text instructions in the <div>. This is because the text cannot receive focus. According to the Safari Web Content Guide: Handling Events (especially, "Making Elements Clickable"), you can add a onclick event handler to the div you want to receive focus. This solution works (although it is not ideal) in iOS 6x but it does not work in iOS 5x. Does anyone have a suggestion that minimizes changes to our existing code and produces consistant user interaction. Here is sample code that shows the problem. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.2.js"></script> <!-- Resources: Safari Web Content Guide: Handling Events (especially, "Making Elements Clickable") http://developer.apple.com/library/safari/#documentation/appleapplications/reference/safariwebcontent/HandlingEvents/HandlingEvents.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006511-SW1 --> </head> <body> <div style="width:550"> <div onclick='function() { void(0); }'> <p>On the iPad, I want to be able to select this text after the textarea has had focus.</p> </div> <textarea rows="20" cols="80">After focus is in the textarea, can you select the text above?</textarea> </div> </body> </html>

  • Replace the content of a tag with a certain class

    - by fire
I am looking for suitable replacement code that allows me replace the content inside of any HTML tag that has a certain class e.g. $class = "blah"; $content = "new content"; $html = '<div class="blah">hello world</div>'; // code to replace, $html now looks like: // <div class="blah">new content</div> Bare in mind that: It wont necessarily be a div, it could be <h2 class="blah"> The class can have more than one class and still needs to be replaced e.g. <div class="foo blah green">hello world</div> I am thinking regular expressions should be able to do this, if not I am open to other suggestions such as using the DOM class (although I would rather avoid this if possible because it has to be PHP4 compatible).

  • how to view associated click function code

    - by llamerr
For example, i associate following function with some element $('table#users tbody tr:first #save').click(function(){ $(this).closest('tr').remove(); }); Now, if i don't know where this function is stored, is there a way to view associated with click() code? In above example, i want a way to view that in firebug, or in another way $(this).closest('tr').remove(); If I'm writing in console following, i'm get a link to dom inspector >>> ($('table#users tbody tr:first #save').click) function() but link is for jquery library, not the code i want.

  • How to normalize SVG path data (cross browser)?

    - by Timo
I have tried to find a way to implement cross browser path normalizer. There IS a native way which is described here and functional example is here, but it works only in newest Opera (but not in IE, FF, Safari, Chrome). The native way uses pathElm.normalizedPathSegList and it converts all relative coordinates to absolute ones and represents all path segment types as a following subset of types: M,L,C,z. I have found only one javascript code and jsfiddled functional example of it, but it works only in IE and FF. Chrome gives "Uncaught Error: INDEX_SIZE_ERR: DOM Exception 1". How this could be fixed to work also in Opera, Safari and Chrome or is there any other way for normalizing SVG paths?

  • Set timeout on third-party file request with jQuery

    - by markedup
I'm trying to integrate a script file hosted by a third party into a new web site. Currently, I'm adding a SCRIPT tag to the DOM for that third-party script file on document ready: $(document).ready( function() { var extScript = document.createElement('script'); extScript.type = 'text/javascript'; extScript.src = 'http://third-party.com/scriptfile.js'; $('head').append(extScript); }); function extScriptCallback() { $('#extWidgetContainer').show(); } But sometimes that third-party script file request times out or takes a long time to respond. So, for the sake of best practice, I want to provide alternative content if the external script takes longer than e.g. 10 seconds to load. How do I achieve this? I've looked at JavaScript's native setTimeout(), as well as jQuery's delay() function, but I'm not sure which I should use--or how. Grateful for any suggestions.

  • jQuery/JavaScript: Trigger when preloaded

    - by user317563
Hello there, jQuery has the .ready() function, but I am unsure whether this is what I need: I set a default background image in CSS (imange 1 out of 4), once document is loaded (images and all, not only DOM); I want to start preloading background image 2 out of 4. Once that is loaded, I want to fade image 1 into image 2. Then I want to preload the next image (3 out of 4), once that is loaded, I want to fade from background image 2 into image 3, and finally preload image 4. Once image 4 is loaded, i would like to fade image 3 into image 4. After that, I want to cycle between the images with a set time interval. What strategy would I use to solve this? .load() function? Thank you for your time. Kind regards,Marius

  • Is there a way to optimise finding text items on a page (not regex)

    - by Jeepstone
After seeing several threads rubbishing the regexp method of finding a term to match within an HTML document, I've used the Simple HTML DOM PHP parser (http://simplehtmldom.sourceforge.net/) to get the bits of text I'm after, but I want to know if my code is optimal. It feels like I'm looping too many times. Is there a way to optimise the following loop? //Get the HTML and look at the text nodes $html = str_get_html($buffer); //First we match the <body> tag as we don't want to change the <head> items foreach($html->find('body') as $body) { //Then we get the text nodes, rather than any HTML foreach($body->find('text') as $text) { //Then we match each term foreach ($terms as $term) { //Match to the terms within the text nodes $text->outertext = str_replace($term, '<span class="highlight">'.$term.'</span>', $text->outertext); } } } For example, would it make a difference to determine check if I have any matches before I start the loop maybe?

  • change value of input element!

    - by Lina
    is it able to "override/overwrite" an input element fixed value using javascript and/or jquery? i.e. if i have an input element like this: <div id="myDiv"> <input type="text" name="inputs" value="someValue" /> </div> is it possible to make a jquery object of that element and then change its value to something else then rewrite the jquery object to the dom?? i'm trying but obviously i haven't got good results! i've been trying something like this: $('input').val("someOtherDynamicValue"); var x = $('input'); $("#myDiv").html(x);

  • How to check if people liked my Facebook FanPage

    - by user2372419
There are many questions and answers about this. But nowadays Facebook changes their Privacy. Any Application that request for user_likes permission must be review by Facebook before using. I've tried many times to explain to Facebook review team about my app, but they did not accept, because my application (a web game using HTML5 and JavaScript) require people like my fan page before play. So my question is: Is there any to bypass Facebook privacy? I have a Like Box on the same page as the game screen (where i need to check Like), so any solution (like: analyze DOM elements, capture screen can pass through image recognition) will fine.
