  • C# Express 2010 Multi-Threading

    - by Chris Evans
Hi, I have a windows app that I have been running in c# Express 2008 for a year and have been trying to convert it over the last few days to 2010. The problem I am having is it is a multi-threaded application that has to run a series of code every second. What it does is have a main thread, that calls 3 worker threads, waits for them to finish then does some additional processing, sleeps till 1 second and runs again. The problem is part of the code can call a web service that takes 8 seconds to respond, so this bit of code gets called using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem. The problem is when running in 2010 when this part of the code gets called the main thread continues to run but when it awakens the sub threads it hangs until the Threadpool method finishes running. This never happens in 2008. Any suggestions? So far I put that bit of code in it's own thread rather than using Threadpool but same issue.

  • Trying to draw an image to a form, but not refreshing

    - by flavour404
Hi, We are using graphics context of a form to draw an image. However it works fine on initial paint but the image is not being updated unless we set a breakpoint and run it in debug mode, stepping through each time. What is a good way of making a seperate thread to paint on to a form every second? Thanks.

  • Automatically inserting new fields in a web.config file

    - by MarceloRamires
I have an ASP.NET project which has already some custom fields in it's web.config file. I've added in it three more fields and used them in my changes, and it's working great. But where it needs to be used, there aren't these thre fields in the web.config (this was expected, I've just added by hand for tests and developing). How do I check the existance of fields in web.config, and in case of not finding it, how do I add it permanently to the web.config ? Thank you

  • How to configure an index.htm file in IIS?

    - by salvationishere
I am running IIS 6.0 on an XP OS using VS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 (Full install). I developed two web apps. Both of these I can run from IIS by setting them to the default website. However, now I tried adding an index.htm file. Real simple; all it has is two hyperlinks to these web apps. But now only the first web app works. The first web app is pure VS. The second web app modifies an Adventureworks database table. But now when I click the hyperlink for the second web app, it gives me the error below. However this error doesn't make sense to me cause I have the two web apps configured as two virtual directories beneath C:\inetpub\ and the index.htm file is also beneath C:\inetpub. And the default website is set to home directory C:\inetpub\ with Document index.htm on top. Also, why does the first web app work and not the second now? Server Error in '/AddFileToSQL' Application. The path '/AddFileToSQL/App_GlobalResources/' maps to a directory outside this application, which is not supported. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: The path '/AddFileToSQL/App_GlobalResources/' maps to a directory outside this application, which is not supported. Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

  • Getting list of all existing vtables.

    - by Patrick
In my application I have quite some void-pointers (this is because of historical reasons, application was originally written in pure C). In one of my modules I know that the void-pointers points to instances of classes that could inherit from a known base class, but I cannot be 100% sure of it. Therefore, doing a dynamic_cast on the void-pointer might give problems. Possibly, the void-pointer even points to a plain-struct (so no vptr in the struct). I would like to investigate the first 4 bytes of the memory the void-pointer is pointing to, to see if this is the address of the valid vtable. I know this is platform, maybe even compiler-version-specific, but it could help me in moving the application forward, and getting rid of all the void-pointers over a limited time period (let's say 3 years). Is there a way to get a list of all vtables in the application, or a way to check whether a pointer points to a valid vtable, and whether that instance pointing to the vtable inherits from a known base class?

  • A new MEF error I've not seen before -- "The export is not assignable to type..."

    - by Dave
I was very surprised to get this error today, as it's one that I've never encountered before. Everything in the code looked okay, so I did some searches. The previous questions and their respective answers didn't help. This one was solved when the poster made sure his assembly references were consistent. I don't have this issue right now because I'm currently referencing another project in my solution. This one was solved when the poster was instructed to use ImportMany, but I am already using it (I think properly, too) to try to load multiple plugins This one was solved when the poster realized that there was a platform target mismatch. I've already gone through my projects to ensure that everything targets x86. So here's what I am trying to do. I have a plugin that owns a connection to a device. I might also need to be able to share that connection with another plugin. I decided that the cleanest way to do this was to create an interface that would allow the slave plugin to request its own connection to the device. Let's just call it IConnectionSharer. If the slave plugin does not need to borrow this connection and has its own, then it should use its own implementation of IConnectionSharer to connect to the device. My "master" plugin (the one that owns the connection to the device) implements IConnectionSharer. It also exports this via ExportAttribute. My "slave" plugin assembly defines a class that also implements and exports IConnectionSharer. When the application loads, the intent is for my slave plugin, via MEF, to enumerate all IConnectionSharers and store them in an IEnumerable<IConnectionSharer>. It does so like this: [ImportMany] public IEnumerable<IConnectionSharer> AllSharedConnections { get; set; } But during part composition, I get the error the export 'Company.MasterPlugin (ContractName="IConnectionSharer")' is not assignable to type 'IConnectionSharer'. The error message itself seems clear enough -- it's as if MEF thinks my master plugin doesn't inherit from IConnectionSharer... but it does! Can anyone suggest further debugging strategies? I'm going to start the painful process of single stepping through the MEF source.

  • Qt, Color Picker Dialog?

    - by high6
Is there a color picker dialog for Qt like the following? Also it needs to have a OnColorChanged signal which is called when ever the selected color changes. I want to give a live preview when they are changing the colors, that is why. Using google I could only find this one that was a triangle in side of a circle and personally I think it looks ugly.

  • Outlook VSTO AddIn for Meetings

    - by BigDubb
We have created a VSTO addin for Outlook Meetings. As part of this we trap on the SendEvent of the message on the FormRegionShowing event: _apptEvents.Send += new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.ItemEvents_SendEventHandler(_apptEvents_Send); The method _apptEvents_Send then tests on a couple of properties and exits where appropriate. private void _apptEvents_Send(ref bool Cancel) { if (!_Qualified) { MessageBox.Show("Meeting has not been qualified", "Not Qualified Meeting", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information); chkQualified.Focus(); Cancel = true; } } The problem that we're having is that some users' messages get sent twice. Once when the meeting is sent and a second time when the user re-opens outlook. I've looked for memory leaks, thinking that something might not be getting disposed of properly, and have added explicit object disposal on all finally calls to try and make sure resources are managed, but still getting the functionality incosistently across the organization. i.e. I never encountered the problem during development, nor other developers during testing. All users are up to date on framework (3.5 SP1) and Hotfixes for Outlook. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? Any ideas anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't select anything for build definition process tab

    - by Alexandru-Dan Maftei
I am trying to create a build definition, specified the build definition name inside the General tab, specified the trigger, the workspace, the build controller that I want to use, the drop folder as a network shared location, the retention policy but when I go to the Process tab I can't select anything. Does anyone knows why I can't select anything inside the Process tab, it looks like it is not enabled, can't press Show details because is not enabled. Thanks!

  • FileSystemWatcher surpassing Active Directory restrictions

    - by DevexPP
While experimenting with FileSystemWatcher, I've found out that it somehow surpasses Active Directory's restrictions to files and folders, and will raise change events with information about what has changed in files and folders that you don't even have access to. I have two questions about that: 1) Why does this happen ? 2) Is this a problem in the AD configuration ? how do I fix it ? 3) Is there any way to gather these files, or even create a FileSystemInfo of them to get more info about the files (not only the changes made on them) ? As far as I've tried, only the FileSystemWatcher immune to the restrictions, I can't run any other thing over it, here's a list of what I've tried: File.Exists Directory.Exists FileInfo instance on found files DirectoryInfo instance on found files File.Copy File.Delete

When someone other than administrators tries to access the pages inside admin folder, it is redirected to login page. My expectation is to display "NoAccess.aspx". Whats wrong with this code? Or is there other meaning to statusCode=403. Could someone provide help on this. Thanks for sharing your valuable time.

  • Can't get GetModuleFileNameA to work, keep getting error 'missing type specifier...'

    - by flavour404
Hi, I am trying to use 'GetModuleFileNameA' but I keep getting the error 'c4430: missing type specifier - int assumed'. From reading the results from my google search I am guessing that it is from my use of NULL: char Filename[MAX_PATH]; //this is a char buffer GetModuleFileNameA(NULL, Filename, sizeof(Filename)); NULL is supposedly defined in #include stdio.h which I have included in my project, what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

  • How to eliminate one of my extra DropDownLists in ASP.NET?

    - by salvationishere
    I'm developing a C#/SQL web app in VS 2008 but for some reason I have one extra DropDownList. The very first dropdownlist displaying is empty. Can you help me identify the cause of this behavior? I'm baffled! An excerpt of my code is below. private DropDownList[] newcol; // Add DropDownList Control to Placeholder private DropDownList[] CreateDropDownLists() { DropDownList[] dropDowns = new DropDownList[NumberOfControls]; for (int counter = 0; counter < NumberOfControls; counter++) { DropDownList ddl = new DropDownList(); SqlDataReader dr2 = ADONET_methods.DisplayTableColumns(targettable); ddl.ID = "DropDownListID" + counter.ToString(); int NumControls = targettable.Length; DataTable dt = new DataTable(); dt.Load(dr2); ddl.DataValueField = "COLUMN_NAME"; ddl.DataTextField = "COLUMN_NAME"; ddl.DataSource = dt; ddl.SelectedIndexChanged += new EventHandler(ddlList_SelectedIndexChanged); ddl.DataBind(); ddl.AutoPostBack = true; ddl.EnableViewState = true; //Preserves View State info on Postbacks //ddlList.Style["position"] = "absolute"; //ddl.Style["top"] = 80 + "px"; //ddl.Style["left"] = 0 + "px"; dr2.Close(); dropDowns[counter] = ddl; } return dropDowns; } protected void ddlList_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { DropDownList ddl = (DropDownList)sender; string ID = ddl.ID; } //Create display panel private void CreateDisplayPanel() { btnSubmit.Style.Add("top", "auto"); btnSubmit.Style.Add("left", "auto"); btnSubmit.Style.Add("position", "absolute"); newcol = CreateDropDownLists(); for (int counter = 0; counter < NumberOfControls; counter++) { pnlDisplayData.Controls.Add(newcol[counter]); pnlDisplayData.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<br><br><br>")); pnlDisplayData.Visible = true; pnlDisplayData.FindControl(newcol[counter].ID); } }

  • Gridview Datasource Server error

    - by salvationishere
I am developing a C# VS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 website. However, I get the below error now when I first run this: The DataSourceID of 'GridView1' must be the ID of a control of type IDataSource. • Cannot perform an ORDERBY against my EF4 data

    - by Jaxidian
    I have a query hitting EF4 using STEs and I'm having an issue with user-defined sorting. In debugging this, I have removed the dynamic sorting and am hard-coding it and I still have the issue. If I swap/uncomment the var results = xxx lines in GetMyBusinesses(), my results are not sorted any differently - they are always sorting it ascendingly. FYI, Name is a varchar(200) field in SQL 2008 on my Business table. private IQueryable<Business> GetMyBusinesses(MyDBContext CurrentContext) { var myBusinesses = from a in CurrentContext.A join f in CurrentContext.F on a.FID equals f.id join b in CurrentContext.Businesses on f.BID equals b.id where a.PersonID == 52 select b; var results = from r in myBusinesses orderby "Name" ascending select r; //var results = from r in results // orderby "Name" descending // select r; return results; } private PartialEntitiesList<Business> DoStuff() { var myBusinesses = GetMyBusinesses(); var myBusinessesCount = GetMyBusinesses().Count(); Results = new PartialEntitiesList<Business>(myBusinesses.Skip((PageNumber - 1)*PageSize).Take(PageSize).ToList()) {UnpartialTotalCount = myBusinessesCount}; return Results; } public class PartialEntitiesList<T> : List<T> { public PartialEntitiesList() { } public PartialEntitiesList(int capacity) : base(capacity) { } public PartialEntitiesList(IEnumerable<T> collection) : base(collection) { } public int UnpartialTotalCount { get; set; } }

I am using Poco library and when running my program on other machines which don't have VS2005 installed, I have to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update", otherwise the the program will give error when launching. What is this redistributable package for? Is there any way to avoid installing this but still let my program running well? Also, there're so many vcredist_x86.exe out there. How can I know which one is necessary or not when getting error? Thanks.

  • Advantages of SQLServer vs. MySQL for C#/.NET4 Cloud Applications

    - by Ed Eichman
I am considering building several C#/.NET4 applications all using a central, cloud based database. In addition, several LAMP (MySQL) web shops will be accessing the cloud DB. MySQL is the database that I'm most familiar with, and my default selection for the cloud DB would be MySQL on Amazon or Joyent. However, I was wondering what development "extras" are available for SQLServer in VisualStudio 2010 that are not available for MySQL. Are there any "killer features" that should make me consider SQLServer instead of MySQL?

At top of my page I have a link bar and whenver I am at contact.aspx I can't navigate to the other pages as if that I need to fill in the necessary data so that it satisfies the validator. How can I fix this?
