• Upgrading framework on a ASP.Net MVC Solution

  We have an ASP.Net MVC 1.0 solution developed using Visual Studio 2008 and .net Framework 3.5SP1. We would now like to upgrade Visual Studio to 2010. If we just open the solution in VS 2010 and do not change the framework version, can we just continue to develop as before? If we open the solution in VS 2010 and change the framework version to 4.0, will we automatically start using ASP.Net MVC 2.0, or will it continue to use ASP.Net MVC 1.0? Is there anything we need to take into consideration when upgrading to ASP.Net MVC 2.0? Thanks Shiraz

• Easy way to apply Joomla template styling to my own content

  I have an application that is mainly a bunch of PHP files included in a Joomla! application by Jumi. I want to make the site look nicer, but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel. There is a RocketTheme template installed on the site, and I'd like to be able to leverage it or some of the other CSS used alongside it. Specifically, I want to decorate tables. Should I search for and include CSS classes directly into my tags by searching through the template's classes, or is there a framework I could use that automatically adds the right classes based on the current theme?

For browser applications, this happens automatically by the browser, for non browser applications, it is pretty trivial to save the cookie and send it with each request. However, I have not figured out a good approach for doing the initial handshake from browser applications. For example, if this is all happening using a AJAX technique, what prevents the user from being able to access the ID/Pass the client is using to handshake with the service? It seem's like this is the only stumbling block to this approach and I'm stumped.

• VARCHAR does not work as expected in Apache Derby

  I'm having this same problem: How can I truncate a VARCHAR to the table field length AUTOMATICALLY in Derby using SQL? To be specific: CREATE TABLE A ( B VARCHAR(2) ); INSERT INTO A B VALUES ('1234'); would throw a SQLException: A truncation error was encountered trying to shrink VARCHAR '123' to length 2. that is already answered: No. You should chop it off after checking the meta-data. Or if you don't wanna check the meta-data everytime, then you must keep both your code and database in sync. But thats not a big deal, its a usual practice in validators. but my doubt is: isn't VARCHAR suppose to variate its size to fit the data? What's wrong with apache derby's VARCHAR?

  I am trying to serialize an xml to a class with the following way: XmlSerializer ser = new XmlSerializer(typeof(PSW5ns.PSW5)); StringReader stringReader; stringReader = new StringReader(response_xml); XmlTextReader xmlReader; xmlReader = new XmlTextReader(stringReader); PSW5ns.PSW5 obj; obj = (PSW5ns.PSW5)ser.Deserialize(xmlReader); xmlReader.Close(); stringReader.Close(); the class PSW5 is generated automatically by xsd.exe using an PSW5.xsd file given to me. I have done the same for other classes and it works. Now i get the following error (during runtime) : {"Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1).\r\nerror CS0030: Cannot convert type 'PSW5ns.TAX_INF[]' to 'PSW5ns.TAX_INF'\r\nerror CS0029: Cannot implicitly convert type 'PSW5ns.TAX_INF' to 'PSW5ns.TAX_INF[]'\r\n"} I am confused because it works for other classes the same way. • FlexUnit - howto check label text

  I am trying to automatically verify certain conventions, such as label/table column header text (Sentence Case, use of colons, etc). It would be nice if there was a way in FlexUnit, or other means, to Iterate over all views in the app Get all titles, labels, column headers Run some pattern checks and fail where needed. Does anyone have a suggestion on what the best way would be to achieve that? I suppose I could do this on a code level on the MXML files, but it would be nicer if it could be integrated into the overall unit test suits. Thanks for any suggestions

• How can you calculate the X/Y coordinate to zoom to

  Im writing a WPF application that has a zoom and pan ability, but what I want to also implement is the ability to zoom and pan "automatically" (via a button click). I have the methods all defined to zoom and pan, but Im having trouble telling the app the desired X/Y coordinates for the panning. Basically, I know that I want the control to be centered at a desired zoom level (say zoomed in 6X times), but the panning destination point is NOT the center point of the control because after the zooming, its been scaled. Does anyone know a way of calculating the desired X/Y position to pan to, taking into account the zooming as well? Do I just scale the desired destination Point? It doesnt seem to work for me...   I have some bulk data in a text file that I need to import into a MySQL table. The table consists of two fields .. ID (integer with auto-increment) Name (varchar) The text file is a large collection of names with one name per line ... (example) John Doe Alex Smith Bob Denver I know how to import a text file via phpMyAdmin however, as far as I understand, I need to import data that has the same number of fields as the target table. Is there a way to import the data from my text file into one field and have the ID field auto-increment automatically? Thank you in advance for any help.

• In OpenRasta, how do I configure a URI where I get "the remainder of the path" as a single string?

  Normally in OpenRasta there is some configuration like this: ResourceSpace.Has.ResourcesOfType<Customers>() .AtUri("/customers/region/{region}") ... // and so on ... where the {region} part of the path is automatically mapped to a string parameter in the handling method. So if the user hits: http://server/customers/region/emea Then the handler method is passed the string "emea". As well as doing this, I'd like to register a handler with something like this: ResourceSpace.Has.ResourcesOfType<Customers>() .AtUri("/someotherthing/*") ... // and so on In this imaginary syntax, the asterisk would mean "take the rest of the path, including slashes, to be a single string parameter to pass to the handling method". And so if the user hits: http://server/someotherthing/how/about/this?that=other Then my handler method receives a string parameter: how/about/this?that=other Is such a thing possible in OpenRasta? In Sinatra (Ruby) I'd use a regular expression to do exactly this.

  I copy stuff from output buffers into C++ code I'm working on in vim. Often this output gets stuck into strings. And it'd be nice to be able to escape all the control characters automatically rather than going back and hand editing the pasted fragment. As an example I might copy something like this: error in file "foo.dat" And need to put it into something like this std::string expected_error = "error in file \"foo.dat\"" I'm thinking it might be possible to apply a replace function to the body of the last paste using the start and end marks of the last paste, but I'm not sure how to make it fly.

I have tried using all available parameters (drawImage(i, 0, 0, 20, 20, 0, 0, 20, 20)) and that didn't help. What is causing my drawing to stretch and how can I prevent that? Thanks, Tom

• Alternative to COM blind aggregation in .NET for class with private interface

  When extending a COM class in unmanaged C++ where the original class has private interfaces, one way to do this is through the concept of blind aggregation. The idea is that any interface not explicitly implemented on the outer aggregating class is 'blindly' forwarded to the inner aggregated class. Now .NET as far as I can figure out does not support COM aggregation natively. A somewhat tedious workaround is to create a .NET class where you implement all the required COM interfaces directly on the .NET class and simply forward to an instance of the actual COM class for any methods you don't want to override. The problem I have is when the original COM object has one or more private interfaces, i.e. undocumented interfaces that are nonetheless used by some consumers of the original class. Using blind aggregation in unmanaged C++ this is a non-issue as the calls to the private interfaces are automatically forwarded to the original class, however I can't find any way of doing the same thing in .NET. Are there any other ways of accomplishing this with .NET?

Whenever the Button is Clicked, a confirmation dialog is displayed. What I am trying to do now, is to allow the user to enter a reason for the removal, and pass this on the the OnClick event handler. How would I do this? I tried OnClientClick='return prompt("Enter your reason!");', but, of course, that did not work =)

  I have 3 tables(Roles,Actions and RoleActionLinks). Roles table has few columns(RoleID,RoleName,Desc). Actions table has few colums(ActionID,ActionName,Desc). In RoleActionLink is created for store the association between Roles and Actions and this table has the columns such as RoleID,ActionID When I created the data model(edmx). it shows only Role and Action as entity. i did not find RoleActionLink table. but even there is no direct relation between Roles and Actions table, both tables are automatically related using RoleActionLink table. When i create the new Action, a action record should be populated in Action table(this is works fine). At the same time, i need to populate record in RoleActionLinks table. But i dont have the entity to populate. Please tell me how to accomplish my needs.

  I have 3 projects in my solution. 1 - client, 2 - server, 3 - WCF service library. Server executable exposes the service provided in the library. I need to add a reference to it, rather than to the library directly. When I open "Add Service Reference" and click "Discover", it only lists the library data, and doesn't list the executable server option. How do I reference a WCF executable service, so the client code would be generated automatically? I use VS 2010. Thanks for your help.

• Using clojure.contrib functions in slime REPL

  I want to use the functions in the clojure.contrib.trace namespace in slime at the REPL. How can I get slime to load them automatically? A related question, how can I add a specific namespace into a running repl? On the clojure.contrib API it describes usage like this: (ns my-namespace (:require clojure.contrib.trace)) But adding this to my code results in the file being unable to load with an "Unable to resolve symbol" error for any function from the trace package. I use leiningen 'lein swank' to start the ServerSocket and the project.clj file looks like this (defproject test-project "0.1.0" :description "Connect 4 Agent written in Clojure" :dependencies [[org.clojure/clojure "1.2.0-master-SNAPSHOT"] [org.clojure/clojure-contrib "1.2.0-SNAPSHOT"]] :dev-dependencies [[leiningen/lein-swank "1.2.0-SNAPSHOT"] [swank-clojure "1.2.0"]]) Everything seems up to date, i.e. 'lein deps' doesn't produce any changes. • Ignoring focusLost(), SWT.Verify, or other SWT listeners in Java code.

  Outside of the actual SWT listener, is there any way to ignore a listener via code? For example, I have a java program that implements SWT Text Widgets, and the widgets have: SWT.Verify listeners to filter out unwanted text input. ModifyListeners to wait for the correct number of valid input characters and automatically set focus (using setFocus())to the next valid field, skipping the other text widgets in the tab order. focusLost(FocusEvent) FocusListeners that wait for the loss of focus from the text widget to perform additional input verification and execute an SQL query based on the user input. The issue I run into is clearing the text widgets. One of the widgets has the format "####-##" (Four Numbers, a hyphen, then two numbers) and I have implemented this listener, which is a modified version of SWT Snippet Snippet179. The initial text for this text widget is " - " to provide visual feedback to the user as to the expected format. When that input is received, the listener changes the text back to " - " (four spaces, a hyphen, then two spaces). Often, I use SWT MessageBox widgets in this code to communicate to the user, or wish to change the text widgets back to an empty state after verifying the input. The problem is that messageboxes seem to create a focusLost event, and using the .setText(string) method is subject to SWT.Verify listeners that are present on the text widget. Any suggestions as to selectively ignoring these listeners in code, but keeping them present for all other user input? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  I would like to write a piece of java code that synchronizes files between local hard drive and a usb storage. I would like to have a different synchronization configuration depending on which usb storage is plugged in and I would like to have apropriate configuration to be selected automatically rather than chosen by the user. I've just read the JSR-80 and jUSB documentation as well as a bunch of articles and SO posts, but all of those are very old and it seems that since that time (around 2005) all the efforts have been abandoned especially for Windows platform, while the OS-independence is quite important to me (at least Windows and Linux need to be supported). Do I really need to use any of the USB APIs to recognize external drives that are connected to the system? I need something that is more unique than file path, drive letter or drive label... And if yes which one would you recommend (unless I missed something jUnit is actually the only for which Windows support exists).

• VisualAssert Testing in C++, Loading a test fixture.

  Good day, I am learning Testing in Visual Studio C++ and I have several tutorials which I have followed. I am trying to load a test fixture. I have tried to put the test .cpp file in many different places but it will still not pick up on it when I click on "Run Tests" or "Run Tests without debugging" In the tutorials I found, they seemed to load into the Test Explorer automatically, but in mine is an icon with a X + (PROJECTNAME).EXE and when I hoover over it I get the process exited without registering with the agent... this is due to the model not containing any test fixtures... How can I load my tests into the Test Explorer...or register them with my project... I've tried right click and "Add Fixture...".... but that just starts a new test file and I have the same problem. Anybody know how I solve this issue?

  Let's say you want to save a bunch of files somewhere, for instance in BLOBs. Let's say you want to dish these files out via a web page and have the client automatically open the correct application/viewer. Assumption: The browser figures out which application/viewer to use by the mime-type (content-type?) header in the HTTP response. Based on that assumption, in addition to the bytes of the file, you also want to save the MIME type. How would you find the MIME type of a file? I'm currently on a Mac, but this should also work on Windows. Does the browser add this information when posting the file to the web page? Is there a neat python library for finding this information?   Hi all, When I implement OAuth in iPhone, I have a dilemma to choose Safari or UIWebView to open the Twitter pages for user authentication? I write some advantage and disadvantage of both case: Using UIWebWeb. The disadvantage is users have to enter their credentials in our application. It's maybe risky phishing. The advantage is this approach will not quit our app. Using Safari for user to authenticate (this approach automatically callbacks to our application) Addvantage: less risky. • SelectedValue of DropDownList is not the one I selected when Enabled=false

  Hiya, I have a few DropDownLists on a webform each pointing to a SqlDataSource. Some of these datasources use one of these DropDownLists for a select parameter, filtering the list to specific categories. For certain users two of these DropDownLists are to be automatically set and disabled. When I submit the form with the drop downs enabled it works fine but when they are disabled the SelectedValue of the DropDownList is being reset to the first one in the list. My DropDownLists are constructed as follows: <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlManager" runat="server" DataSourceID="dsManagers" EnableViewState="false" DataValueField="ManagerID" DataTextField="MgrName" AppendDataBoundItems="false" ondatabound="ddlManager_DataBound" > The drop down lists add an extra item on the data bound event as follows: protected void ddlManager_DataBound(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.ddlManager.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem("--Manager--", "--Manager--")); } Can anyone shed any light as to why this is happening? • Grouping Windows Forms Radiobuttons with different parent controls in C#

  Hi, I've got a Windows Forms application in which I have a number of RadioButtons. These RadioButtons are placed within a FlowLayoutPanel which automatically arranges them for me. All RadioButtons that are directly added to the FlowLayoutPanel are grouped, meaning I can select only one of them. However, some of these RadioButtons are paired up with a TextBox so I can supply some argument there. But to have all this arranged properly, I add a Panel control to the FlowLayoutPanel so I can control the alignment of the RadioButton and TextBox relatively to each other myself. These RadioButtons now have their own respective Panels as parent controls and thus are no longer included in the radio group with the other RadioButtons. I read that the the RadioButtons that are in the System.Web.UI namespace have a GroupName property, but unfortunately their System.Windows.Forms counterparts lack this property. Is there some other way I can group these radio buttons are am I going to have to handle onClick events myself? Thanks, Jerry
