  • Pull news from an RDF Feed using Ruby and Nokogiri?

    I would like to pull the titleand description fields from the newsfeed at http://www.tagesschau.de/newsticker.rdf to feed them to the Mac's Text-to-Speech engine. My search for a nice Ruby Gem to do this has brought me to Nokogiri, but all examples that "pull something out" of a given XML seem to be centered around CSS somehow. Does anyone have any idea how to save the titleand description fields in an array?

    I have just implemented the Sphinx Storage Engine, and created my first Sphinx table, I'm trying to convert from using my Fulltext MyISAM table, so I figured I would just dump all the data into a sphinx table.. obviously I was wrong.   • PHP's fopen is terminally failing

    Okay, I have GOT to be missing something totally rudimentary here. I have an extremely simple use of PHP's fopen function, but for some reason, it will not open the file no matter what I do. The odd part about this is that I use fopen in another function in the same script and it's working perfectly. I'm using the fclose in both functions. So, I know it's not a matter of a rogue file handle. I have confirmed the file's path and the existence of the target file also. I'm running the script at the command-line as root, so I know it's not apache that's the cause. And since I am running the script as root, I am fairly confident that permissions are not the issue. The second function is passed an absolute path to the file. That is what I used to confirm that the file is there and that the path is correct.

  • regular expressions: ignoring certain chars globally

    Consider it that '_'s in a number doesn't change that number's value so 1000==1_000==10_00. The Problem: given numbers like 1_244_23 1412_2 1_1111 etc..., how could I decide whether certain number appears in that collection? For example: 1244_23 yes, 11_111 yes, 1412_1 no. How could using regex to solve this? I mean, if I could tell the regex engine just ignore these '_''s when matching then this problem becomes trivial? How could I do so?

  • Recommendations for C++ open source game engines on IPhone

    I decided that I want to make a game for the iphone I was thinking of using oolong or sio2 any recommendations? Both have the problem of lack of tutorials, is it possible to somehow use a normal C++ game tutorial and integreate the engines rather than the one used in the tutorials? So if the C++ tutorial talks of creating an engine I can skip it and use sio2 or oolong? Thanks

  • Obtaining command line arguments in a QT application

    The following snippet is from a little app I wrote using the QT framework. The idea is that the app can be run in batch mode (i.e. called by a script) or can be run interactively. It is important therefore, that I am able to parse command line arguments in order to know which mode in which to run etc. [Edit] I am debugging using QTCreator 1.3.1 on Ubuntu Karmic. The arguments are passed in the normal way (i.e. by adding them via the 'Project' settings in the QTCreator IDE). When I run the app, it appears that the arguments are not being passed to the application. The code below, is a snippet of my main() function. int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { //Q_INIT_RESOURCE(application); try { QApplication the_app(argc, argv); //trying to get the arguments into a list QStringList cmdline_args = QCoreApplication::arguments(); // Code continues ... } catch (const MyCustomException &e) { return 1; } return 0; } [Update] I have identified the problem - for some reason, although argc is correct, the elements of argv are empty strings.     Since the SQLite engine will not truncate the data you store in a text column, is there any advantage in being specific with column sizes when you define your schema?     in my .htaccess i've got these lines: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|images|robots\.txt) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L] i tried to include js files with this line: <script type="text/javascript" src="system/application/media/js/jquery/jquery.js"></script> but it doesnt work since the rules dont let it pass. it works when i turn the rewrite engine off. how can i change the rules so it allows url with a /js, /css and /img? thanks

  • WordPress website getting hung up for 10-15 seconds

    Problem I have a website (which loads fine): http://testupg.videve.com/ Go to the blog section (and it begins to load, gets hung up, then loads): http://testupg.videve.com/blog/ It's all one WordPress install. The only pages that are getting hung up are the blog page itself and any article page. The video pages load fine etc. What Have I done and noticed. If I disable all plugins, the blog page loads fine. I narrowed it down to DisplayBuddy plugins (Featured posts, Carousel, Slider)...as soon as I enable any single one of them, the site loads slow. The thing that doesn't make sense is, I disabled the sidebar (deleted it from the template) and the article page still loaded slow and it has ZERO instances of this plugin. I disable the plugin and the article page loads fine. How on earth can this be? I am hoping this case above can give just a little bit of insight! One other thing. The video pages use a custom taxonomy so I am wondering if its something to do with the default wordpress taxonomy. Any help is GREATLY appreciated, I have been at this thing for hours and it's time to call in some support. Cheers

  • cellForRowAtIndexPath not called for all sections

    I have a UITableView that has five sections. Just as the title describes cellForRowAtIndexPath is only being called for the first four. All connections have been made concerning the datasource and delegate. Also, my numberOfSectionsInTableView clearly returns 5. Printing out the number of sections from within cellForRowAtIndexPath shows the correct number, thus confirming that cellForRowAtIndexPath is simply not being called for all sections. What on earth is going on? I looked pretty hard for an answer to this question but could't find one. If this has already been answered please forgive me and point me in the correct direction.
