• Need help in tuning a sql-query

  Hello, i need some help to boost this SQL-Statement. The execution time is around 125ms. During the runtime of my program this sql (better: equally structured sqls for different tables) will be called 300.000 times. The average row count in the tables lies around 10.000.000 rows and new rows (updates/inserts) will be added with a timestamp each day. Data which are interesting for this particular export-program lies in the last 1-3 days. Maybe this is helpful for an index to create. The data i need is the current valid row for a given id and the forerunner datarow to get the updates (if exists). We use a Oracle 11g database and Dot.Net Framework 3.5 SQL-Statement to boost: select ID_SOMETHING, -- Number(12) ID_CONTRIBUTOR, -- Char(4 Byte) DATE_VALID_FROM, -- DATE DATE_VALID_TO -- DATE from TBL_SOMETHING XID where ID_SOMETHING = :ID_INSTRUMENT and ID_CONTRIBUTOR = :ID_CONTRIBUTOR and DATE_VALID_FROM <= :EXPORT_DATE and DATE_VALID_TO >= :EXPORT_DATE order by DATE_VALID_FROM asc; Here i uploaded the current Explain-Plan for this query. I'm not a database expert so i don't know which index-type would fit best for this requirement. I have seen that there are many different possible index-types which could be applied. Maybe Oracle Optimizer Hints are helpful, too. Does anyone has a good idea for tuning this sql or can point me in a right direction?

List<Map<String, CustomerField>> customerRecords = new Reader(file).readData(listener); // ** long running method over. listener.event("Status: Loaded all customers, count:" + listOfCustomerRecords.size()); return listOfCustomerRecords; } Now while the last method is in its long running call, I would expect to see my statusText updated to have 'Status: Starting read', but its doesn't. Its only when the read() method returns that the text is updated. If its was 'straight' java I would presume that the long running job is hogging the CPU, or the statusText needed to have repaint() called on it. Can anyone give me any ideas? Thanks Jeff Porter

• Alter Table Filestream runs even if IF statement is false

  I am writing a script to update a database to add Filestream capability. The script needs to be able to be run multiple times without erroring. The second time when the if statement should be false it throws an error saying "Cannot add FILESTREAM filegroup or partition scheme since table 'evidence' has a FILESTREAM filegroup or partition scheme already." If I put a simple select into the if statement and take out the alter table filestream on line it functions correctly and does not perform the if statement. So esentially it is always running the alter table filestream on statement even if the if statement is false. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

  I have an HTML table, and each row has a checkbox for selecting or deselecting its row. Whenever a checkbox changes value, I need to add or remove highlighting to the row and also ensure that the page's submit button is only enabled when at least one row is selected and disabled otherwise. The problem is that if a checkbox has the focus and I hit the spacebar, the checkbox doesn't get checked -- instead it gets half checked (it has the same shadowed appearance that it would get immediately after a mousedown). I have to press the spacebar a second time to actually check the box. Similarly, it requires two key presses to uncheck it. Oddly enough, if I hold down the spacebar for a few moments, then a single press works as expected. Can anyone explain what is going on here? Is there something I'm doing wrong in the JavaScript code that is causing this behavior? How can I fix this?

  We have a website that contains a database of places. For each place our users are able to take one of the follow actions which we record: VIEW - View it's profile RATING - Rate it on a scale of 1-5 stars REVIEW - Review it COMPLETED - Mark that they've been there WISH LIST - Mark that they want to go there FAVORITE - Mark that it's one of their favorites In our database table of places each place contains a count of the number of times each action above was taken as well as the average rating given by users. views ratings avg_rating completed wishlist favorite What we want to be able to do is generate lists of the top places using the above information. Ideally, we would want to be able to generate this list using a relatively simple SQL query without needing to do any legwork to calculate additional fields or stack rank places against one another. That being said, since we only have about 50,000 places we could run a nightly cron job to calculate some fields such as rankings on different categories if it would make a meaningful difference in the overall results of our top places. I'd appreciate if you could make some suggestions on how we should think about bubbling the best places to the top, which criteria we should weight more heavily, and given that information - suggest what the MySQL query would need to look like in order to select the top 10 places. One thing to note is that at this time we are less concerned with the recency of a place being popular - meaning that looking at the aggregate information is fine and that more recent data doesn't need to be weighted more heavily.   Hye Guys, my question is the following, i'm working with different databases, all contain information about 1000+ companies, a company is defined by its ticker code (the short version of the name( Ford as F) usually seen on stock quotation boards). Aside from the ticker code to merge on I also have to merge on the time, I used month as a count variable throughout my time series. The final purpose is to have a regression in the kind of Y(jt) = c + X(jt) +X1(jt) etc with j = company (ticker) and t = time (month). So imagine I have 2 databases, one which is the base database with variables such as Tickers, months, beta's of a company (risk measure) etc and a second database which has an extra variable (let's say market capitalisation). What I want to do then is to merge these 2 databases based on the ticker and the month. Example: Base database: Ticker __ Month __ Betas AA __ 4 __ 1.2 BB __ 8 __ 1.18 Second database: Ticker __ Month __ MCAP AA __ 4 __ 8542 BB __ 6 __ 1245 Then after merge I would like to have something like this: Ticker __ Month _ Betas ___ MCAP AA __ 4 _ 1.2 ___ 8542 So all observations that do not match BOTH date and ticker have to be dropped, I'm sure this is possible, just can't find the right type of code.   I've been doing an MSc Software Development conversion course, the main language of which is Java, since the end of September. We have our first assessed practical coming and I was hoping for some guidance. We have to create an array that will store 100 integers (all of which are between 1 and 10), which are generated by a random number generator, and then print out ten numbers of this array per line. For the second part, we need to scan these integers, count up how often each number appears and store the results in a second array. I've done the first bit okay, but I'm confused about how to do the second. I have been looking through the scanner class to see if it has any methods which I could use, but I don't see any. Could anyone point me in the right direction - not the answer, but perhaps which library it comes from? • Datagridview Winforms Add or Delete Rows in Edit Mode with Collection Binding

  In my datagridview, I bind a List of objects named 'ProductLine'. But unfortunately with this approach I cannot 'Add' or 'Delete' rows to the datagridview in edit mode. When I create a fresh new order I can Add or Delete rows but once I save it and try to open it in Edit then it doesn't let me 'Add' or 'Delete' (via keyboard). Any idea? • The algorithm used to generate recommendations in Google News?

  Hi everyone. I'm study recommendation engines, and I went through the paper that defines how Google News generates recommendations to users for news items which might be of their interest, based on collaborative filtering. One interesting technique that they mention is Minhashing. I went through what it does, but I'm pretty sure that what I have is a fuzzy idea and there is a strong chance that I'm wrong. The following is what I could make out of it :- Collect a set of all news items. Define a hash function for a user. This hash function returns the index of the first item from the news items which this user viewed, in the list of all news items. Collect, say "n" number of such values, and represent a user with this list of values. Based on the similarity count between these lists, we can calculate the similarity between users as the number of common items. This reduces the number of comparisons a lot. Based on these similarity measures, group users into different clusters. This is just what I think it might be. In Step 2, instead of defining a constant hash function, it might be possible that we vary the hash function in a way that it returns the index of a different element. So one hash function could return the index of the first element from the user's list, another hash function could return the index of the second element from the user's list, and so on. So the nature of the hash function satisfying the minwise independent permutations condition, this does sound like a possible approach. Could anyone please confirm if what I think is correct? Or the minhashing portion of Google News Recommendations, functions in some other way? I'm new to internal implementations of recommendations. Any help is appreciated a lot. Thanks!

  Hi! I'm using a SoundPool [ 1 ] to play audio clips in my app. All is fine but I need to know when the clip playback has finished. At the moment I track it in my app by obtaining the duration of each clip using a MediaPlayer [ 2 ] instance. That works fine but it looks wasteful to load each file twice, just to get the duration. I could roughly calculate the duration myself knowing the length of the file (available from the AssetFileDescriptor [ 3 ]) but I'd still need to know the sample rate and the number of channels. I see two potential solutions to that problem: Figuring out when a clip has finished playing (doesn't seem to be possible with SoundClip). Having a class which could load just the header of an audio file and give me the sample rate/number of channels (and, ideally, the sample count to get the exact duration). Any suggestions? • How can I highlight the corresponding titles of clicked links?

  I'm writing an XSL file that contains a side-nav menu with a list of links. When the user clicks on one of the links, the page jumps to the corresponding table of information for that link. How can I make it so that when the link is clicked, the title of that table (not the link itself) is highlighted? It should also un-highlight if another link is clicked. • How do I load an XML document, add and remove nodes, then apply it to a ASP DataGrid control?

  I have a pretty simple operation but am struggling with how to implement it. I am loading XML from an external data source using a DataSet.ReadXml(), the creating a new XMLDataDocument from that data set, then syncing the Dataset back to the XMLDataDocument like so: doc = new XmlDataDocument(dsDataSet); dsDataSet.EnforceConstraints = false; dsDataSet= doc.DataSet; Once loaded I do two things to the XmlDataDocument: Loop through and check if a purely meta node, count, exists right beneath the root node and if so remove it. a thumb node exists in a second level nodelist and if not, create and append it. This is all going a expected because the result of doc.save() looks correct. Where I'm having an issue is updating the Dataset, which is being applied as the data source for an ASP DataGrid. Once all the above XMLDoc manipaulation is done I do this: dsDataSet.Merge(doc.DataSet); dsDataSet.AcceptChanges(); I then apply the data set to the grid control: dgList.DataSource = dsDataSet; dgList.DataBind(); But, when I do this I get this error on the site: System.Web.HttpException: DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name 'thumb'. What did I miss?

• OdbcCommand on Stored Procedure - "Parameter not supplied" error on Output parameter

• Tableview not updating correctly after adding person

  I have to be missing something simple here but it escapes me. After the user enters a new person to a mutable array I want to update the table. The mutable array is the datasource. This pattern continues and it only ever prints two people, and it's always the last two people. What the heck am I missing?
