• Apache - Same username in several .htpasswd files

  In a virtual host, I setup two different <Location> blocks for which the access is restricted by two basic authentication htpasswd files. One htpasswd contains different usernames + a common user name. The other htpasswd file only contains the common user name. My problem is that once users connect a location with the common user name, they have immediate access to the other location without being asker for a different user name. Is there a way to restrict the username access only to the corresponding htpasswd file? Is there a way for users to ask to be re-prompted for another username/password?

  hi, I have two systems with ip address say 64.103.56.1(A)(Dev name -wlan0) and 64.103.225.18(B),now what i want is , everytime I ping B from my system A, it has to be routed via a router say with address 10.0.0.251(C)(I want this to be my next hop to reach B) , but this router is on a different subnetwork than the two systems.How do I do this? /* Things I tried: I used 'route add -host B gw C wlan0', and got an error saying " no such process exist or no such device found". Tried ping C and traceroute and found the gw addr at my side is some 63.103.236.3(D), so added another entry route add -host C gw D wlan0, I was able to do this without any error! */

• Sync Banshee library data.

  I use Banshee to organise my music, I particularly like its scoring system and I have smart playlists based on it. However, I have two versions of my music library, one on each of my computers. As one of the computers is small I only have a favourite set of songs on that computer rather than my whole collection. The computers are not on a local network, but I do use Ubuntu One for file sharing between them. Is there any way I can synchronise song data (play count, score, skip count ...) and playlist data (including smart playlists that include songs based on this data) between the two computers? This would only be relevant of course for the songs that exist on both computers, the songs that exist on only one would need to be ignored. I did consider putting the library data file (I think it is .xml but I'm not sure) into the shared file and creating a symbolic link to it, but then I wouldn't be able to have a different set of songs on each computer.   At the moment our all computers in one big LAN, it is the intention to separate the admin and edu (it's in a school) especially for traffic and less for security. How do this best? I have a drawing, but can't post it (a can send it in a mail) Firewall?, VLAN?, IPCop (no two green zones)?, pfsense? ... Should there be two scopes on the dhcp server (WIN 2008 R2), one for admin and one for edu or is one scope enough? I would like your advice, I am a student in training with this task as a project.   Can I have two independent Connection servers attached to the same vCenter server? Here's my scenario. I'm setting up View 4 to provide desktops to two seperate Windows domains that are on different IP subnets seperated by a firewall. One cluster of physical servers, one vCenter server, linked clones. As I understand it View Connection server has to be a member of a Windows domain in order for quickprep to work. So the way to provide desktops to both Windows domains is to have a Connection server in each one right? Then open ports in the firewall so the Connection server from the other subnet can communicate with vCenter. Any reason why this won't work? Or is there a better way to accomplish it?

• Add custom Virtual Machine icons to VirtualBox

  I'd like to use custom icons to better distinguish machines running the same OS from each other, in VirtualBox. is this possible? If so, what file(s) do I need to add/edit? Examples: I've got two Windows 7 VMs. One I use as a sandbox for testing various things, and the other I use for when I need to connect to work (ideally, my personal system - the host machine - never directly connects). I'd like to have perhaps a beaker for the sandbox, and a suitcase for the work machine. I've got two Ubuntu VMs. One is BackTrack Linux, the other is a build I'm using to learn more about the OS. I wouldn't mind keeping the regular icon for the latter, but I'd like to use one of BackTrack's icons or images for the former. I'm running VirtualBox 4.1.6 on Windows 7 x64.

• How can I stop Windows DNS server properties settings from changing by themselves?

  When I open the DNS console in Administrative tools, I keep finding a couple of problems which keep on reappearing by themselves, and I want to stop them from happening. One of the DNS servers has two network interfaces, and it should only be listening for requests on of them, and I get errors in the Event Log otherwise. But when right clicking one DNS server and selecting Properties, I can see on the Interfaces tab that 'All IP addresses' is selected. If I Change it to 'Only the following IP addresses:' and deleselect the WAN addess, I will find it reslected when I next check it after a couple of days. In the other DNS server's Properties, on the Forwarders tab, there should only be two forwarder addresses. However, the address for the router keeps in appearing. This router has the DNS server as its forwarder. There shouldn't be anything using the router's DNS forwarders for DNS other than the router itself, but this surely is causing a loop. How do I get these properties on both DNS servers to stick?

• Shrink system volume, create new partition, & enlarge current partitions w/o losing data?

  My machine has a 300 GB hard drive. I'm planning to reinstall Windows 7 on this machine soon. It has three partitions: a System partition, and two equal data partitions for particular types of data (music, photos, docs, etc). These data partitions are too small for the data they hold, and the system partition is large enough to be shrunk. I want to create four partitions in preparation for the fresh reinstall, a System partition, and three data partitions of varying sizes (40, 50, & 60 GB respectively). My question: Can I shrink the System volume, create another partition, and make the existing two data partitions bigger without losing any data that is currently on the hard drive? Or is it better to format the whole thing, and create partitions after (thus removing the current OS) with a partitioning tool booting from CD? Can I reformat and create partitions with the Windows 7 set up DVD?

• Routing application traffic through specific interface

  Hello All! First question here, so please go easy: I have a debian linux 5.0 server with two public interfaces. I would like to route outbound traffic from one instance of an application via one interface and the second instance through the second interface. There are some challenges: both instances of the application use the same protocol both instances of the application can access the entire internet (can't route based on dest network) I can't change the code of the application I don't think a typical approach to load balancing all traffic is going to work well, because there are relatively few destination servers being accessed in the outbound traffic, and all traffic would really need to be distributed pretty evenly across these relatively few servers. I could probably run two virtualized servers on the box and bind each of them to a different external ip, but I'm looking for a simpler solution, maybe using iproute or iptables? Any ideas for me? • Belkin Wireless G router not working on Windows 7

  I have a Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G router which used to work on XP. I have a clean Windows 7 install (on the same desktop PC), and it just won't work. Device Manager lists the adapter as a USB device, but it says "The drivers for this device are not installed", even though the driver installer said the installation was OK. Manage Wiresless Networks says "wireless is not currently enabled". The WLAN AutoConfig service is running. My specific question is which of the two symptoms above should I go for first? Should I try to fix the driver installation somehow, or should I try to enable wireless? Is one caused by the other, or is this two independent problems? Any other thoughs that could help me are also appreciated.

• Gnome Terminal intercepts ctrl-F1

  Gnome Terminal does not pass on to applications the keypress ctrl-F1. It's an official bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/932940 The bug is marked Feb. 2012 but lives on in serendipity since 2009. The bug report is not even complete since shift-ctrl-F1 is also affected. However, I noticed that those two keys are the default keys for switch-to-workspace-1 and move-to-workspace-1. So I disabled them. Zero, zippo, zilch: Gnome Terminal would still swallow the keys. Next, I assigned to those two workspace functions totally different keys. The new keybindings did work, Gnome Terminal would still swallow ctrl-F1 and shift-ctrl-F1. Where are the default workspace keybindings stored? [Not in a xml-file.]

  As you can see, my two Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC) nodes have three network interfaces each, which connects them to three different networks : A public network A private network consisting of the WSFC nodes A private network consisting of the WSFC nodes and a machine with the WSFC Quorum Witness File Share Does this network configuration I've planned, make sense? Do I have the "right" number of NICs and networks? I'm thinking the 2nd NIC/network may be unnecessary. My two MongoDB Replica Set nodes also have three network interfaces each - very similar to the previous situation: A public network A private network consisting of the primary and secondary MongoDB Replica Set nodes A private network consisting of the primary, secondary and arbiter MongoDB Replica Set nodes Does this network configuration, make sense?   As shown by Lenovo Access Connections on my Windows 7, the wireless network I am using has a speed of 54.0Mbps but a signal strength of 88%. I am using WinSCP with unlimited speed to download files. WinSCP shows that the speed fluctuates between 100 and 120KiB/s. I was wondering what are the difference between the two speeds from Lenovo Access Connections and WinSCP? How can I tell the actual speed performance, for example, from the above measurements: speeds and the signal strength mentioned in the two places. Thanks and regards!

• MDADM RAID5 array showing as CLEAN FAULTY

  A drive dropped out of my raid 5 array yesterday. It looks like the reason was due to a bad controller so I switched it out and attempted to re-add the drive but mdadm claimed it couldn't do it. So I zerod the superblock and just added the drive normally and left it to resync. When I came to check on the array this morning I was unable to mount it at all and it's now showing as CLEAN FAULTY with two drives missing. The two missing drives are listed as spare and faulty spare. Is there anything I can do in this situation or is the array gone?

  I have an image resize server sitting behind an nginx server. On a cold cache two clients requesting the same file could trigger two resize jobs. client-01.net GET /resize.do/avatar-1234567890/300x200.png client-02.net GET /resize.do/avatar-1234567890/300x200.png It would be great if only one of the requests could go through to the backend in this situation (while the other client is set 'on-hold'). In Varnish there seems to be such a feature, called Request Coalescing. However that seems to be a Varnish-specific term. Is there something similar for Nginx?

I would like to use a wireless-n router (D-Link DIR-655, that I received for free) with it in order to take advantage of the faster wifi. I basically need advice on how to architecture my home network with these two beasts. What configuration should I need to apply on my old and new router to make it all work?   I have monitors of my two machines side by side and I use them both with a single keyboard/mouse using Google Synergy+ which works great. But is it possible to use the monitor of my secondary machine as the secondary monitor of my primary? I am on XP so from what I understand I cannot just rdc from secondary to this primary. In any case that would be a different session altogether and I would prefer to be able to extend my desktop over the two monitors. Any solutions or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

• Highly Available Web Application (LAMP)

  I work for a small company who provides a web application for thousands of users. Earlier this year they had one server hosted one company. We recently acquired another server in a different location with the hopes of one day making this a redundant failover machine. I understand what to do with the mysql replication, I plan on using a master-master replication setup, and rsync to sync the scripts and files, however I am at a stand still about how to configure the fail-over. Ideally I would like the two machines to accept requests, like a round robin dns, however if one machine goes down I do not want requests to go that machine. All of the solutions I am come across assumes high availability of servers in the same location, these servers are in two completely different locations with different public ip address.   Hello all. Just upgraded from Exchange 2003 to 2010. Somehow, I have two mailbox databases on my single Exchange 2010 server. One database contains all of the mailboxes I had moved from the 2003 exchange server; the other contains two SystemMailboxes and one FederatedEmail box. I am just starting to get a grasp on the commands used in the EMS. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to move these three "system" mailboxes into my actual mailbox database so I can eliminate the second database. Just trying to sure up this one server before I role out my backup Exchange server. Thanks in advance! Your help and ideas are greatly appreciated as I try to make this setup as simple as possible.

  Hi, I am trying to setup a load balanced web server scenario, using two HAproxy load balancers and two debian web servers following this guide http://www.howtoforge.com/setting-up-a-high-availability-load-balancer-with-haproxy-keepalived-on-debian-lenny. the setup is working but the results of simple performance benchmarking is not what I expected. I tried apache benchmark tool to send lots of requests to servers (one time directly testing one of the web servers and the other time testing through the load balancer) using the command "ab -n 1000000 -c 500 http://IP/index.html", but the test results shows better performance for the single server without load balancer. can any one tell me if I'm going wrong on some thing?

• Routing Traffic on Ubuntu to give Raspberry PI Internet Access

  I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for setting up my Linux (Ubuntu 12.04) box to route traffic from eth0 to wlan0. I'll try and explain the problem I am trying to solve: I currently have two separate networks: [RaspberryPi/eth0] 192.168.2.2 / 255.255.255.0 ^ | v [Ubuntu/eth0] 192.168.2.1 / 255.255.255.0 And: [Ubuntu/wlan0] 192.168.1.100 / 255.255.255.0 ^ | v [ADSL router] 192.168.1.1 / 255.255.255.0 So currently if I want to access the RaspberryPI I can SSH from the Ubuntu box to the PI. And if I want to use the Internet, I have full access from the Ubuntu box, but nothing from the RaspberryPI - the two networks are partitioned. What I would like to do is configure things so that the RaspberryPI has Internet access via the Ubuntu box and out to the Internet. I tried to create a bridge, but got the message "wlan0: operation not supported" (wireless chipset is Ralink RT3062). I'm sure giving the Raspberry PI Internet access should be easy to do in this configuration, but I am a bit lost - can someone point me in the right direction please?

• Cinema4D for game development tutorials anyone ?

  Hi, I started to learn Cinema 4D. I've noticed it's really easy to use for motion graphics, but I want to use it for modeling for games/realtime 3d engines. Before I used 3dsmax and it was easy to estimate how a model would look/behave in a 3d engine. The two main things I did was displaying Polygon triangles and displaying the Polygon Count. I've found the Total Polygons tick in HUD settings in Cinema 4D, but I can't find any display mode that will show triangles. Is there there a way to display triangle faces/not quads in Cinema4D ? If so how ? There is a Triangulate function, but I'd rather not Triangulate/Untriangulate all the time, especially since it's converting back and forth between the two doesn't always produce the same result.

  I'm looking at linking two networks with a long range Ethernet bridge. I know I can connect my two networks with a router, but my problem is how will my computers know where to send packets if I don't add the route manually? I COULD add them manually, but it seems like a hassle. I have very very limited knowledge of RIP (I know it has something to do with routing), but I don't know how to use it. edit: My vision for the network would be the 2 networks (which are currently independent home networks), connected by a microwave Ethernet link. I assumed i'd need a router on one end of the bridge, to handle communication between the 2 networks.
