  • I have many domain names and 1 website, how can I improve my SEO strategy?

    - by user114659
I have some domains with several extensions like .us, .net, .org etc. I want to use them all to redirect to one website, which is a social networking website. I want to use these domains in such a way that these domains become helpful in SEO point of view, this time. So far I am doing the followoing: pointing all domains to one directory on my hosting I have some other options including using 301 redirect, but I don't want to see duplicate contents in Google, What else do I need to do?

  • How can I advetise efficiatly on my sites? [on hold]

    - by Smillification
Are there any ad networks that give publishers/websites the ability to display adverts that are chosen by the publisher immediately on page load. Lets say the page loads, and a script inserts certain key words that the ad network uses to search their inventory of adverts and assigns the nearest one with matching tags to the publisher advert area? I know Google's adsense and many other similar services index/reads the pages content and then assign certain advert depending on the content with little or no control by the publisher... Any help is appreciated.

  • Drupal site Instant Messaging [migrated]

    - by pthurmond
I am trying to find a module or a standalone solution that I can turn into a module that will allow me to have an instant messaging system like Facebook does on a Drupal site that I am working on. I have never setup a chat system before. My particular requirements are rather stringent. It needs to be a solution where we host the chatting server (if one is needed separate from the website itself). It must use the site's login state (can't use an external system at all, that means no GTalk, Yahoo IM, or AIM). It also must be able to handle up to 1,000 users at any given time. I have looked through the Drupal community and I tried the DXMPP module, but it requires Jquery UI 1.8 and that doesn't work with all of the other things that my site uses (such as Homebox). We do have a Jabber server already setup and ready to go. Does anyone have any thoughts or options here? Thanks! EDIT: We are using Drupal 6.

  • Files Not Uploading

    - by Howdy_McGee
So I'm running wordpress. I will make changes to theme files and upload them successfully but none of the changes show up on the actual website. At first I thought it was the wrong theme but I have specific theme files I created that are in there so I'm using the right theme. Then I thought it was a server problem and maybe the companies server are down so I checked a few other websites and updated information just fine. All on linux servers. Then I jumped to Wordpress to make sure it wasn't a wordpress problem but I can update the files fine from their Admin Panel. I checked to make sure it wasn't Filezilla Caches or Browser Caches so I cleared them both. What could be the problem? If it had to deal with the Filezilla client permissions I imagine I would get an error upon uploading but it uploads just fine. Suggestions would be extremely helpful I have no clue.

  • Wordpress Mobile Edition, Wordpress Mobile Pack, WPTouch - Which one and how?

    - by heartcode
Hi everyone, First of all, Happy New Year! I am thinking about making my blog accessible and enjoyable on mobile devices (as many handsets as possible). I am using Wordpress 3.0.4. What I've found is couple of cool plugins like WPTouch (for touch enabled devices), The Wordpress Mobile Edition and the Wordpress Mobile Pack. I am wondering which one is the best to use if I can use only one. If I can use more or (even all these three) are they compatible? Does anyone have any experiences in this topic? If so I would much appreciate some advices or best practice links. Happy 2011, thanks in advance, Rob

  • How do I make the home page of the website to come up in the rankings than the internal pages? [closed]

    - by Shahab
Possible Duplicate: What are the best ways to increase your site's position in Google? Suppose I have a website, e.g. www.example.com that comes at number 6 on the Google search rankings. But the internal pages of the website i.e. www.example.com/index.php?a=1&b=2 or www.example.com/index.php comes at number 2 of the rankings. How would I make my prime domain name www.example.com to come at the top of the list ? Any guidance would be appreciated.

  • Full password not required to access password protected directory?

    - by user617123
I password protected a directory in cPanel. When I went to access the page in my browser, I accidentally hit backspace on the password before I hit enter. Surprisingly, the page still loaded. I played around with it and realized that I could remove the last 4 or 5 characters and the password would still work. Any more than that and it would fail. I'm just curious why this behavior is happening and whether or not it's anything to worry about?

  • What is the best language to learn for WEB Development? [closed]

    - by Spoon Yukina
I'm an IT student in my second year, and I want to learn a web development language, but I'm confused to choose between these languages: Django-J2EE-PHP-ASP.NET-Ruby & Rails, So what is the best language to learn of these, And which management database can be work perfectly with it? note that I learned these languages: C# - C - Assembly language - Python, for web development : HTML-CSS-JavaScript and for management database : SQL SERVER - ACCESS and for the moment I'm learning Java and C++

  • How to backup a dev & QA folder website structure?

    - by novicePrgrmr
A site I just became in charge of uses a really simple two folder structure to host the dev site and the QA site. The sites are hosted on the company servers so I just have the sites' folders mapped on my desktop. I would like to run some kind of backup scheme, but I am finding it hard to think of a way to do this effectively. The problem is that we aren't using any revision control software, and since the servers aren't controlled by me, I don't think I will be able to implement anything like that. Or could I? The entire site is static too, so no DB's or anything besides html, images, PDFs, etc.

  • Does google analytics track visits via tumblr dashboard?

    - by Krista
I wondered if GA tracks visits to my tumblr accessed through tumblr dash by other tumblr users. And if it can track visitors who only view my blog via the tumblr dash. My GA stats are 320 visits for last month, but I have about 400 likes or reblogs for the same time period, so not sure how this is possible, unless the visits through tumblr are not tracked. Does GA only track those who type in my site address directly, or those who are logged in to tumblr to access it as well? Thx

  • Send some form info to a PHP page to be processed without going to that page? [closed]

    - by zuko
Okay, so I'm not very familiar with php. I have a very simple form, just 2 text fields. All I want to do is, after validating with JavaScript, send these two string fields in an email to a pre-defined email address. I understand how JavaScript works on the client side; you can respond to user events, etc. And PHP is server-side. What I'm having trouble grasping and figuring out is how do I run PHP functions, etc when I want? I figured out how to use the 'action' attribute of the form to send the data via POST to another PHP page. But this simply opens that page. I don't want to open the page I just want to do some processing and send a message back to the page the user is still on. How do I go about something like that? Thanks.

  • multiple languages same pages shall I change the page URL path as well?

    - by Athanatos
We own multiple country code top-level domains for our website e.g DE, UK ,FR. When someone visits for one of those domains they redirect to .com and the language automatically changes for the first time to the one from the originating domain. Also users can change the language from the .com website using a dropdown, however the page URI stays exactly the same e.g service.php. How will that be indexed in Google ? Will all the different language will be indexed or only the default lang (English) ? Is it recommended for SEO purposes to do something with the page URL (even using the htaccess maybe) so that I can also append to the title or page name the language ? e.g service.php?lang=fr

  • Repurposing CSS Class Selectors

    - by limefartlek
    I don't know what this technique is called, I've only seen it used. It's a way to repurpose the same selectors with CSS. For example if I create h1 { font-size:18px; color:#FFFFFF; font-family:Arial, Helvetica;margin:0; padding:0; } h2 { font-size:18px; color:#000000; font-family:Arial, Helvetica; font-weight:normal;margin:0; padding:0; } I can repurpose the h selectors with something like .whatever h1 { color: #000; font: 2.0em arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fff3ea; margin: 50px 0px 0px 50px; } .whatever h2 { color: #000; font: 1.7em bold arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fff3ea; margin: 25px 0px 25px 75px; } If h1 and h2 appear inside of a div called whatever, then they will assume those properties. You can do this with ID tags and class tags but I can't for the life of me remember how this is done. Any thoughts?

  • How can I make this script output each categories item per category [closed]

    - by Duice352
    Ok so here is the deal currently this script outputs all the products in a parent category as well as the products in the child categories. What i would like to do is seperate the output based on child categories. All the child categories are in the array $children and the string $childs. The parent category is the first array element of $children with the following ones being the actual children. The category names are stored in the database $result as " $cat_name ". I want to first Display the cat_name then the products that fall in that category and then display the next child cat_name and items, ect. Any suggestions of how to manipulate the while loop that cylcles through the rows? <?php $productsPerRow = 3; $productsPerPage = 15; //$productList = getProductList($catId); $children = array_merge(array($catId), getChildCategories(NULL, $catId)); $childs = ' (' . implode(', ', $children) . ')'; $sql = "SELECT pd_id, pd_name, pd_price, pd_thumbnail, pd_qty, c.cat_id, c.cat_name FROM tbl_product pd, tbl_category c WHERE pd.cat_id = c.cat_id AND pd.cat_id IN $childs ORDER BY pd_name"; $result = dbQuery(getPagingQuery($sql, $productsPerPage)); $pagingLink = getPagingLink($sql, $productsPerPage, "c=$catId"); $numProduct = dbNumRows($result); // the product images are arranged in a table. to make sure // each image gets equal space set the cell width here $columnWidth = (int)(100 / $productsPerRow); ?> <p><?php if(isset($_GET['m'])){echo "You must select a model first! After you select your model you can customize your dragster parts.";} ?> </p> <p align="center"><?php echo $pagingLink; ?></p> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="20"> <?php if ($numProduct > 0 ) { $i = 0; while ($row = dbFetchAssoc($result)) { extract($row); if ($pd_thumbnail) { $pd_thumbnail = WEB_ROOT . 'images/product/' .$pd_thumbnail; } else { $pd_thumbnail = 'images/no-image-small.png'; } if ($i % $productsPerRow == 0) { echo '<tr>'; } // format how we display the price $pd_price = displayAmount($pd_price); echo "<td width=\"$columnWidth%\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"" . $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] . "?c=$catId&p=$pd_id" . "\"><img src=\"$pd_thumbnail\" border=\"0\"><br>$pd_name</a><br>Price : $pd_price <br> $cat_id - $cat_name"; // if the product is no longer in stock, tell the customer if ($pd_qty <= 0) { echo "<br>Out Of Stock"; } echo "</td>\r\n"; if ($i % $productsPerRow == $productsPerRow - 1) { echo '</tr>'; } $i += 1; } if ($i % $productsPerRow > 0) { echo '<td colspan="' . ($productsPerRow - ($i % $productsPerRow)) . '">&nbsp;</td>'; }

  • Does a large (hidden) submenu count towards site content in tems of determining page similarities?

    - by Name
Basically, I have this site that recently lost a lot of traffic after I optimized the html, the exact reasons to which are uncertain. The graph of impressions (times a page appears on search listings) is continuously going down like an e^-x function. Because the content, previously occupying five pages of tables, now fits within a few paragraph tags, the menu now occupies about 80% of the live html code and I am starting to have doubts wherether this affects the "similar pages" factor that Google punishes. Questions: As far as I know, Google ignores invisible material and the submenus are only visible when hovered over. Has anything at all changed in this area? If I ajax in the submenus, leaving only the main eight menu items to load, will I be punished for "hiding" information? Is the idea worth testing or is it frankly retarded?

  • How to use HTTP Handler to make a client2client communication? [closed]

I could done already the configuration of IIS, I made an simple show Hello World and it run OK. And, further, what should i done.... Can you advice me, please, with some exemples, or tutorials, how to do this job. Sorry for my questions which seems to be not studied.

  • Will a standard CMS on a shared web hosting account work for this?

    - by user1185305
I have two questions concerning CMS's that I need answered if possible: I need to create a site with a Database. This site will in due time have lots of traffic and many users if things go as planned. Is it better to have the CMS on a shared web hosting account or is it better to have a dedicated server for this? The site I want to create needs to be able to create groups where each group has its own admin. The admin of the group decides the content that each member can view/access. The information of one group can be shared to other groups as well. This means that only the information content is shared but not the group's member data. Should I use a single or multiple databases for this problem? Is this something that can be done using standard CMS systems out there. or should I try to build one myself?

  • Flipping text is good for SEO?

    - by MariaZ
My client's name company has a flipped letter on its name, so for example "PEOPLE" the P is flipped, I managed to flip the P with 2 span tags, but now I am thinking to do this for SEO reasons is not good, because of the SPANS. I have the feeling the search engines might not underestand a flipped P, and it is better just use a normal name. What do you think? thanks, the flip html is <span class="flip"><span>P</span></span>

  • Alternatives to PHP [closed]

    - by kaz
We are starting a project, which goal is to create new frontend interface to our product. Old version was created in PHP, very poorly written. We are choosing the language and frameworks that we want to use in new version. Requirements: New interface will be communicating with API. Application will not have it's own database. We don't have a big team, 3 max programmers for entire project. The main programmers are PHP veterans and knows some other technologies (Rails, C, C++, some Java) but not in professional level. But overall they are good and experienced programmers. So: We want to find a good alternative to PHP. I like Rails very much, but whole ActiveRecord model will be useless, when using application API. Java needs a lot of configuration and someone who is expert in Java to properly run this project. Also, in Java there are a lot of big and complicated enterprise frameworks - not very good for 2-3 programmers team. Python - I don't know Python and don't know good and experienced programmers who knows PY - but it's not so complicated and big as Java and maybe in long period it's good alternative for PHP. What are your thoughts?

  • How do you manage all of the information you have learned and found? [closed]

    - by B Seven
Possible Duplicate: How do you manage your knowledge base? What do you use for personal note taking to keep track of everything you learn? Are you always Googling or searching StackOverflow to answer the same questions? Or searching for and copying and pasting existing code? I feel like I have a poor memory, especially remembering things like syntax. Are there any knowledge management systems that would work well for a programming language or operating system? It would be great if there were a way to save everything I learn in an easy to search system. Does such a thing exist? Maybe you would be able to search by question (How to sort an array?, How to set static IP?), or by tag (sort, array, enumeration, iterator, IP). I know it would be easy to develop my own system, but I thought it would be great to learn what works for other people.

  • New domain and submission to search engines

    - by Guandalino
I have registered a new domain with a hosting company. They offer the feature that for each new domain there is an associated placeholder page. Actually it is a "Site not configured page" with some technical text and links to the hosting site. I could: submit its URL to search engines right now remove the page and submit the URL when the site will be online (could be a couple of months) replace the default page with "coming soon" contents and submit the URL opt for simplicity and add a blank html page having a focused and well descriptive title and maybe some meta tag other? I prefer 4 over 3 because at the moment there aren't precise project details to provide. What's the proper way to notify search engines that soon this site will be online, without getting penalized for side effects I'm not considering or aware of?

  • Does using a country domain (TLD) negatively effect a site's search ranking if the site content isn't country specific?

    - by Alexizamerican
I have a website in which the content is not country specific. The TLD is currently .it but the company is hosted and based in the United States. I'm wondering if a .it domain will negatively effect the site's search rankings. Is it better to use a .com TLD? For example (I don't actually own these domains), would the domain love.it have a worse ranking than loveit.com? (Assuming the content of the sites is the same) I've been searching everywhere for an answer with not much luck. Any advice would be very helpful.

  • remove "items 1-9 of X" from google result

    - by OSdave
the results of my Magento based website's categories includes "items 1 - 9 of X" before the actual description of the category. How can I get rid of this? In this snapshot, what I want to delete is the red rectangle edits: @Su, these are the reason: Having text like (Items 1 - 9 of 144 –) appear in a Google listing uses up the 25 word limit that Google allows us. More importantly, the first few words of the description can persuade or dissuade someone from visiting my site. This text will not positively influence people to visit my site. @DisgruntledGoat this information shows up in the source code of that page, like this: <table class="toolbar" border="0"> <tr> <td class="pager" style="width: 414px;"> <table class="pager" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td>Items 1 to 9 of 144 total</td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table>
