  I just installed microsoft chart controls software on my system. Now the chart is present on the data toolbox on visual C# 2008 express edition. But it is not available on visual web developer 2008 express edition When I tried <asp:chart > it is not available... Do I have to do some procedure to get it active on web developer. Can anyone tell me what is the problem... I added the below said to the web.config, The is available but I am getting an error.. The type or namespace name 'DataVisualization' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Web.UI' (are you missing an assembly reference?) What should I do now...

• Creating a new record using AJAX in ASP.NET-MVC

  I am having the hardest time wrapping my head around this. I recently asked this question Create/Edit/Save data in a jQuery pop-up for ASP.NET-MVC and Linq2Sql I'm sure that the response is the right way to go, but I just can't figure out how to write the back-end code to make it work. I originally made my site by following the nerddinner tutorial. I have a subcontracts model and a subcontracts controller. On my subcontract entry page, I'd like for there to be a pop-up/dialog box where the user can enter a new company if the company isn't already in the drop-down list. Do I need to create a new company controller? I wouldn't have a company model b/c the company table is linked to my subcontracts table within the subcontracts dbml. Can anyone point me to an example somewhere? Or offer any help.

  Scenario: I have a regular aspx page with a form. When someone clicks a button the form submitted via post like normal. HOWEVER. The page where the form resides is the default page(Default.aspx). So when someone goes to the site: http://site.com/ and submits the forms he gets redirected to http://site.com/default.aspx. I tried setting the action of the form to http://site.com/. However asp.net does not allow to use root urls with a POST. So is there any workaround? Ajax is not an option.

However, when users from other offices (separate network, with firewall open) they get a password request input box. Why are they getting the password dialogue? What is the recommended way identify users of the app? I want to avoid using password, but windows identities. Anyone attempting to access the application is inside a trusted network. • System for email verification in ASP.NET

  Is a pre-made system available to confirm a new user's email address for an ASP.NET site? I'm using the pre built Authentication and Role providers. The system should be able to send email to a user when they're added to the system that requires them to click a link, that link would then "unlock" the account. Users shouldn't be able to login until their email is verified. I could probably figure out how to roll this on my own but I'd prefer to use a standard method if one exists.

  Hello, I thought that this was easier… I have a asp:hyperlink control, with target=”_blank”, pointing to the file I want the user to download. My plan is to track the number of times, the users click on this link. I thought in placing it in ajax update panel, to catch the postback and avoid full page refresh. However, hyperlink doesn’t have a onClick method. On the other hand I could use a linkbutton, which has a onClick built in. But It’s harder to make the file open in a new window… and I would also have to do something like: Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=myImage.jpg"); But I heard that the above approach has some problems with PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX… What is you'r opinion on this? How and why, would you do it?

• ASP.Net GridView GridViewDeleteEventArgs.Keys empty

  I have following Gridview: <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" CssClass="table" DataKeyNames="groupId" DataSource="<%# dsUserGroupsSelected %>" DataMember="Group" etc....> and after firing RowDeleting event handler: protected void GridView1_RowDeleting(object sender, GridViewDeleteEventArgs e) e.Keys is empty. Moreover, in runtime if I check dsUserGroupsSelected.Group.PrimaryKey it is poulated with: {System.Data.DataColumn[1]} [0]: {groupId} so it's really odd to me. Am I missing something? I have this kind of a workaround: int groupId = (int)GridView1.DataKeys[e.RowIndex].Value; which will work just fine, but I just can't get it why e.Keys (and e.Values) would be empty!? Any ideas?

  First time i am going to work on (maintenance project) application that is already in production.The application was developed in ASP.net 3.5/C# 3.0(web forms) with jQuery,Ajax,Sql server 2005 and microsoft enterprise library 4.0.,WCF services. Questions (bear with me if my question is wrong) 1) Is it possible to use Visual Studio (2008 with SP1) to debug the remote application (i.e already in production)?.What are the tools do i need to use in order to keep track the things in case something went wrong? 2) Simply looking into Log file ,will solve the issues? 3) After having done with enhancements,is it possible to directly deploy the DLLs into production server.Won't it affect the running application? Please guide me what are the procedures i need to follow.Client is ready to provide any tools for my support.(What are the area do i need to aware to handle production system) Thanks in advance.

  Can someone explain to me how you would use jeditable with an ASP.NET web form (and C# codebehind). I've got a bit of experience with web forms but not very complicated stuff, and haven't used much jquery before, and this is just puzzling me. I understand how to put it in and attach it to the element you want to be editable, it's what jeditable does when you submit the text field that I don't get. How do you handle that in the webform in order to save the changed text? Hope someone understands my issue... Cheers!

• Invalidating ASP.NET FormsAuthentication server side

  I am experimenting with FormsAuthentication (using ASP.NET MVC2) and it is working fairly well. However, one case I can't work out how to deal with is validating the user identity on the server to ensure it is still valid from the server's perspective. eg. User logs in ... gets a cookie/ticket Out of band the user is deleted on the server side User makes a new request to the server. HttpContext.User.Identity.Name is set to the deleted user. I can detect this fine, but what is the correct way to handle it? Calling FormsAuthentication.SignOut in the OnAuthorization on OnActionExecuting events is too late to affect the current request. Alternatively I would like to be able to calls FormsAuthentication.InvalidateUser(...) when the user is deleted (or database recreated) to invalidate all tickets for a given (or all) users. But I can't find an API to do this.

Also I would like to add the validation to the top of the screen as a validation summary Any Ideas ?

• SQL Server Reporting Services proxy timeout (ASP.NET)

  Morning, We are using SSRS (2005) and have a ASP.NET frontend using the SSRS WebControl. I've boiled the problem down the time it takes for one particular report to be generated is greater than the timeout on the proxy server. It looks like the way the SSRS web control tries to do things is by performing an HTTP request for the report, however the problem with this is the request can timeout potentially before the report has generated. Looking at the HTTP traffic the response is a 504 (gateway timeout). Is there a way to increase the timeout or change SSRS WebControl to use more robust polling mechanism (which isn't dependant on the timeout of the HTTP request). I could be wrong but I don't think ServerReport.Timeout property would resolve the issue we are seeing? Any thoughts? Philip

  I'm wondering how I can get the url from the browser in asp.net. I have a page that I use globalization/localization for and I am redirecting (via server not code) from www.spanishversion.com to www.englishversion.com but the url is masked to still say www.spanishversion.com. I want to get what the browser's url is but when I try things like Request.Url.ToString() Request.Url.OriginalUrl Request.Path Request.RawUrl Request.ServerVariables["SERVER_NAME"] it always comes back as www.englishversion.com. Is there a way that I can explicitly read the url from the browser? Thanks.

• AJAX CascadingDropdown - Setting the selected index - C# - ASP.NET

  Hi, I have a CascadingDropDown on an ASP.NET page. Now, the prompt text is "Select State". (list of states). However, on a different version of this page (ie querystring), i might want to set the selected index to "California" for example. How can i do this? The web service used by the ajax control (ie GetStates) gets invoked at the same time the jquery document.ready function is triggered (ie asynchronously). So when i try and set the selected index in jquery, the items are not yet bound. Is there a way to attach a handler to the ajax dropdown so that i can set the selected index once the webservice call has completed, and the items are bound? Thanks in advance.

Best Practices Question – Is it ok to pass the DataTable to the business layer and use the DataTable from the business layer for an ObjectDataSource in the presentation layer, or Should I transfer the data in the data table into a List and use the List for an ObjectDataSource in the presentation layer? If I should transfer the data to a List, should that be done in the data access layer or the business layer? Does it make a difference if the data needs to be edited before being displayed?

  Hi, In ASP.NET -- I want to popup an alert window in the case of an event. I don't have a button, i do not load the page at that event. When I searched i got a lot of java script examples but I can't use them as they work either on a button click or on page load. I just want a pop window to come as soon as I capture a particular event. I keep checking for the events every 5 second, as soon as i capture one event, there is a switch case for the actions to follow according to the event captured.   Selenium (RC) is being used to test an ASP.NET 1.1 site. When we make a request via Selenium RC (and then in turn via Firefox or other configured browser) the http verb is "HEAD". We have several form action methods that have separate POST and GET methods decorated with AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get). These methods are returning a 404 and logging a "a public action method could not be found" error message. Questions: When writing separate Get/Post action methods what is the best practice for handling the Head verb? Should we always decorate with an AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get | HttpVerbs.Head)? The only time we've seen HEAD verbs is from Selenium and from some crawlers. We created robots.txt entries for the crawlers. Does anyone know why HEAD verbs are issued via Selenium (instead of an If-Modified-Since header)? Are there mainstream crawlers that use the HEAD verb? Does it affect SEO ranking to not have it?

I am registering the route as follows: routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.asmx/{*pathInfo}"); routes.Add(new Route("_vti_bin/Lists.asmx", new ListsHandler())); where ListHandler is defined as: public sealed class ListsHandler : IRouteHandler { #region IRouteHandler Members public IHttpHandler GetHttpHandler(RequestContext requestContext) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } #endregion } But when I start the MVC application and try to navigate to http://localhost:8888/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx, I get an HTTP 404 error, rather than an exception raised. Is this even possible in MVC? Do I need to add an Lists.asmx ASPX web service file to my project in a particular place (I cannot create the _vti_bin folder in the Visual Studio project)?

  Hi all, I have an UpdatePanel that has user controls dynamically added to it. There can be a few dozen user controls at times. The page / UpdatePanel slows down big time on each postback as more user controls are added. After some digging, I was surprised to find the cause is the various CompareValidator, CustomValidator, RegularExpressionValidator and RequiredFieldValidator controls that exist on each user control. Dose anyone have suggestions? It strikes me as very peculiar that inclusion of these ASP.NET controls could have such a horrible effect on performance. Thanks, Calvin

  I am trying to set up an Asp.Net State Server on Amazon EC2. The single web server using this State Server is also on EC2. I've done the following things. I've added the IIS role on the State Server. I changed the value in the registry to allow connections for the service and started the aspstate service. I verified it is listening on port 42424 by checking netstat. I edited the web.config of the Web server to point to this server. I added the the tcp port to my EC2 security group and allowed it for all incoming ip's. Anything else I am not doing?

  Hello everyone, I am debugging codeplex simple project = http://www.codeplex.com/sl2videoplayer. I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + Windows Vista x86 Enterprise. I have not modified any code of this codeplex project, and just press F5 to run VideoPlayerWeb project. The current issue I met with is error message -- "Unable to connect to ASP.Net Development Server". Here is my screen snapshots when clicking F5.
