• Routers with decent parental monitoring / traffic logging?

  I'm looking for consumer router / firmware recommendations with reasonably robust remote URL / hostname logging & reporting functionality. Most logging functionality I've seen is terrible - reporting only IP addresses, not rolling up reports or reporting any useful statistics. The logs are also often limited to merely the last few minutes/hours when handling high-traffic loads. Bonus points for providing a screenshot of the log reporting interface!

  I'm used to use VirtualDub to encode a video to AVI container with DivX-codec (and MP3 for audio). Now I'm planning to use ffmpeg to encode videos to MP4 container with h264-codec. What I've figured out is that I need to use libx264 and one of those presets to make anything work. However, I'm amazed about the video bitrate ffmpeg uses for encoding. What I currently have is this little batch file: @ECHO OFF SETLOCAL SET IN=source.avs SET FFMPEG_PATH=C:\Program Files (x86)\ffmpeg SET PRESET=-fpre "%FFMPEG_PATH%\presets\libx264-lossless_slow.ffpreset" SET AUDIO=-acodec libmp3lame -ab 128000 SET VIDEO=-vcodec libx264 -vb 1978000 "%FFMPEG_PATH%\ffmpeg.exe" -i %IN% %AUDIO% %VIDEO% %PRESET% test.mp4 ENDLOCAL With this I tell ffmpeg to use 1978k as the bitrate, but ffmpeg uses 15000k+! I tried other presets, but they don't use my specified bitrate. • Installing ethernet drivers with no install package

  I recently got my new Sony Vaio laptop and formatted it into Windows 7 Ultimate. I would like to use the Windows Easy Transfer Tool over a network connection to transfer some of my files over from my desktop PC. Before I do this though, I need to install the ethernet LAN drivers (I'm currently using the built in Wifi). I downloaded the original LAN driver that came with my Vaio originally from the Sony website: http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/preinstalled/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VPCEB1Z0E_B [Scroll down to the 450KB Ethernet driver] When I unzip the package, these files are inside: yk62x64.cat yk62x64.dll yk62x64.inf yk62x64.sys As you can see, no installer. Can anyone guide me through how to properly install these drivers? I have thought of using Google but I'm clueless as to what query to use. Thanks.

Is there a difference between the following two? "USB Flash Drive" "USB Flash Memory" When I go to Curry's or other sites that sell USB Sticks, they only talk about "USB Flash Drives". I've been in computing for many years and know the basics, but "memory" and "drive" are different things to me.

• Mac Terminal.app: Force '^C' to be printed when editing current prompt, then aborting it

  This is the opposite of Prevent “^C” from being printed when aborting editing current prompt. I'm using Bash. When I'm editing the commandline in Bash, and I hit Control-C to abort the commandline, the '^C' character does not display. I would like to see this character. I tried commands like stty -ctlecho and stty ctlecho (which I borrowed from the other question), but this didn't work for me. This behavior seems to be true with my environment on Ubuntu, CentOS and MacOSX. This only happens within Apple's Terminal.App. If I SSH to a remote Linux or FreeBSD box, then ^C is printed. So, this is clearly just a local setting. Compared to other projects, magento and non-magento, this number seems way off (as in extremely high).   I have a soundcard in my new PC at work that does not have the right driver installed, and I'm not sure what the manufacturer is. (it's a generic PC running Windows XP) Is there a way to figure out what device it is w/o having to open the thing up or pester my IT department? When I look at it in Device Manager it says IDT High Definition Audio CODEC and when I look around in the Properties dialog boxes there's a Device Instance ID of HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76C1&SUBSYS_12974001&REV_1001\4&3612FC2B&0&0001

• install php on server08 manaully

  Looking to install php on a 08 box already holding iis/sql box. I've tried the webinstaller a couple times but the installer locks before completion or managing to echo any sort of error message. Before hunting down a manual install how-to i wonder if the box is trying to tell me something i should be paying attention to. PHP running alongside IIS _must be supported or one would expect that error message to be kinda high on the list. any gochas to beware of? thx

• Memory upgrade - is the site reliable?

  Hi, I have a late-2008 unibody macbook model with 2 GB of ram. I am looking to upgrade to 4 GB of ram. I looked about a month ago at Other World Computing's 4 GB upgrade kit and I remember it being around $80. I looked today, finally getting to buy it and it went up to almost $100. I found another site, memoryupgrade.pro that calls itself "Pro memory upgrade" and it looks legitimate - it sells the memory for around $80 in its own brand. The only thing is, I haven't been able to find any reviews about it, and I'm not sure if it actually is reliable. Does anybody have any experience with this site? Does anybody have any other suggestions for buying macbook memory? I have friends who bought from OWC and were happy, should I just spend the extra $30 (including shipping) and buy from them? Thanks!
