• Not getting concept of null

  Hy Guys, Beginning with mysql. I am not able to grasp the concept of NULL. Check screen-shot (*declare_not_null, link*). In it when I specifically declared 'name' field to be NOT NULL. When i run the 'desc test' table command, the table description shows default value for name field to be NULL.Why is that so? From what I have read about NULL, it connotes a missing or information that is not applicable. So when I declare a field to be NOT NULL it implies (as per my understanding) that user must enter a value for the name field else the DB engine should generate an error i.e. record will not be entered in DB. However when i run 'insert into test value();' the DB engine enters the record in table. Check screen-shot(*empty_value, link*). • "render as JSON" is display JSON as text instead of returning it to AJAX call as expected

  I'm navigating to the index action of MyController. Some of the on the index page I'm making an AJAX call back to myAction in MyController. I expect myAction action to return some data as JSON to my AJAX call so I can do something with the data client side, but instead of returning the data as JSON like I want, the data is being displayed as text. Example of my Grails controller: class MyController { def index() { render( view: "myView" ) } def myAction { def mapOfStuff = [ "foo": "foo", "bar":] render mapOfStuff as JSON } } Example of my JavaScript: $( function() { function callMyAction() { $.ajax({ dataType: 'json', url: base_url + '/myController/myAction', success: function( data ) { $(function() { if( data.foo ) { alert( data.foo ); } if( data.bar ) { alert( data.bar ); } }); } }); } }); What I expect is that my page will render, then my JavaScript will be called, then two alerts will display. Now if I manually enter the URL of the index page and press refresh, all works as expected. I have half a dozen AJAX calls I do the exact same way and none of them are having problems. What is the deal here? UPDATE: I have noticed something. When I set a break point in the index action of MyController and another one in the myAction action, the break point in myAction gets hit BEFORE the break point in index, even though I am navigating to the index. This is obviously closer to the root cause of my problem, but why is it happening?

• How do I use requestFocus in a Java JFrame GUI?

  I am given an assignment but I am totally new to Java (I have been programming in C++ and Python for two years). So we are doing GUI and basically we extended JFrame and added a couple fields. Say we have a field named "Text 1" and "Text 2". When user presses enter with the cursor in Text 1, move the focus to Text 2. • This program isn't asking for the predetermined 5 numbers from the array?

  Okay, so this question is difficult to state. I'm a beginner at C++, and I rarely run into problems with these simple assignments, but something is majorly wrong here and I cannot identify it. I've been trying for hours. This program is supposed to read 5 numbers from an array that the user enters, and then print the largest one. (I know it's easier to just write a for-loop, but our professor wanted us to call a function). The only problem is that instead of asking for 5 numbers, it asks for 2. It works other than that, I JUST NEED IT TO ASK FOR 5 NUMBERS. haha. Your input would be greatly appreciated. • jQuery Code Only Fires On Hard Refresh?

  The XFBML version of the Facebook Registration plugin only loads HTTPS. I need it to load HTTP so my form does not call a security error mismatch between domains. I wrote this code to get the SRC and rewrite it with out HTTPS It works fine on the first load, however on Chrome and Safari it only loads the first time and on HARD refreshes. It does not load on standard reloads or by pressing "enter" on the address bar.   I have a fileinput class. It has a string parameter in the constructor to load the filename supplied. However it just exits if the file doesn't exist. I would like it to output a message if the file doesn't exist - but not sure how.... • Page does update with details from the database after i hit a button

  I have a code and the way it should work is,when they click on NEW CUSTOMER,it takes them to test1.php where in they enter the details and they hit submit.it saves all the details in properly in the database and when i go back and hit REFRESH ,it should come up with the customer details which they had entered in previously. But what happens is, when i click on the REFRESH,it refreshes the same old page which is empty.I wanted to find out where am i missing the logic.Thanks in advance.   I need to implement the class that should perform locking mechanism in our framework. We have several threads and they are numbered 0,1,2,3.... We have a static class called ResourceHandler, that should lock these threads on given objects. The requirement is that n Lock() invokes should be realeased by m Release() invokes, where n = [0..] and m = [0..]. So no matter how many locks was performed on single object, only one Release call is enough to unlock all. Even further if o object is not locked, Release call should perform nothing. Also we need to know what objects are locked on what threads. • Dynamic function arguments in C++, possible?

  I am little new to C++, I have one doubt in variable argument passing. As I mentioned in a sample code below ( This code won't work at all, just for others understanding of my question I framed it like this), I have two functions func with 1 parameter and 2 parameters(parameter overloading). I am calling the func from main, before that I am checking whether I needs to call 2 parameter or 1 parameter. Here is the problem, as I know I can call two fuctions in respective if elseif statements, but I am curious to know whether I can manage with only one function.   I have an activity that allows user to enter notes and store them in dynamically created textviews. However, when the use leaves the activity and returns, all the created textviews disappear. How can i store store or retrieve all of these created textviews, whenever i return to the activity? Also, i think that my sharedpreferences will be overwriting each time a new textview is added. • Creating a dictionary with list of lists in Python

  I have a huge file (with around 200k inputs). The inputs are in the form: A B C D B E F C A B D D I am reading this file and storing it in a list as follows: text = f.read().split('\n') This splits the file whenever it sees a new line. Hence text is like follows: [[A B C D] [B E F] [C A B D] [D]] I have to now store these values in a dictionary where the key values are the first element from each list. i.e the keys will be A, B, C, D. I am finding it difficult to enter the values as the remaining elements of the list. i.e the dictionary should look like: {A: B C D; B: E F; C: A B D; D: 0} I have done the following: inlinkDict = {} for doc in text: adoc= doc.split(' ') docid = adoc[0] inlinkDict[docid] = inlinkDict.get(docid,0) + {I do not understand what to put in here} Please help as to how should i add the values to my dictionary. It should be 0 if there are no elements in the list except for the one which will be the key value. Like in example for 0.

• Error Expected Loop VBScript

  I have a script that opens up an excel file if the password provided is correct. If its wrong, it prompts a message. It works perfectly when I add a loop at the end. However, the problem is whenever the password is wrong the script won't stop asking for the password because of the loop. What I want is the script to quit/close if the password is wrong. I tried to remove the loop and replaced it with "wscript.quit" but it always prompts the message "expected loop". But I can only get the first line of the result. And I never get to the "end" output part. The whole program seems blocked.   I've got a loop issue in Python 2.72 that's really frustrating me.   I am taking some information from a user (name, address, contact number) and store it in a struct. I then store this in a file which is opened in "r+" mode. I try reading it line by line and see if the entry I am trying to enter already exists, in which case I exit. Otherwise I append this entry at the end of the file. The problem is that when I open the file in "r+" mode, it gives me Segmentation fault! • Php header('Location") error

  I'm having some difficulty with my php coding. I have 3 files, add.php, lib.php, and view.php I created a simple form, and when the user clicks submit, it should direct them to the view.php where it will display the database. Now I'm having a couple issues I can't seem to resolve. when the user clicks submit and the fields are blank or there is an error no entry should be made into the view page (or database)...however when I click submit a blank entry is made into the database. ALSO if i click "enter product" from the top menu bar anytime I click it, it causes a blank entry into the database. I can't figure out why that's happening. My next issue is with the header('Location') and my browser says: "Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at lib.php:13) in add.php on line 16" However if I click submit on my form it goes away. And yes this was an assignment---it was due last week but since I couldn't finish it, it's not worth any marks anymore.
