  • Metro Walkthrough: Creating a Task List with a ListView and IndexedDB

    - by Stephen.Walther
The goal of this blog entry is to describe how you can work with data in a Metro style application written with JavaScript. In particular, we create a super simple Task List application which enables you to create and delete tasks. Here’s a video which demonstrates how the Task List application works: In order to build this application, I had to take advantage of several features of the WinJS library and technologies including: IndexedDB – The Task List application stores data in an IndexedDB database. HTML5 Form Validation – The Task List application uses HTML5 validation to ensure that a required field has a value. ListView Control – The Task List application displays the tasks retrieved from the IndexedDB database in a WinJS ListView control. Creating the IndexedDB Database The Task List application stores all of its data in an IndexedDB database named TasksDB. This database is opened/created with the following code: var db; var req = window.msIndexedDB.open("TasksDB", 1); req.onerror = function () { console.log("Could not open database"); }; req.onupgradeneeded = function (evt) { var newDB = evt.target.result; newDB.createObjectStore("tasks", { keyPath: "id", autoIncrement:true }); }; The msIndexedDB.open() method accepts two parameters: the name of the database to open and the version of the database to open. If a database with a matching version already exists, then calling the msIndexedDB.open() method opens a connection to the existing database. If the database does not exist then the upgradeneeded event is raised. You handle the upgradeneeded event to create a new database. In the code above, the upgradeneeded event handler creates an object store named “tasks” (An object store roughly corresponds to a database table). When you add items to the tasks object store then each item gets an id property with an auto-incremented value automatically. The code above also includes an error event handler. If the IndexedDB database cannot be opened or created, for whatever reason, then an error message is written to the Visual Studio JavaScript Console window. Displaying a List of Tasks The TaskList application retrieves its list of tasks from the tasks object store, which we created above, and displays the list of tasks in a ListView control. Here is how the ListView control is declared: <div id="tasksListView" data-win-control="WinJS.UI.ListView" data-win-options="{ itemDataSource: TaskList.tasks.dataSource, itemTemplate: select('#taskTemplate'), tapBehavior: 'toggleSelect', selectionMode: 'multi', layout: { type: WinJS.UI.ListLayout } }"> </div> The ListView control is bound to the TaskList.tasks.dataSource data source. The TaskList.tasks.dataSource is created with the following code: // Create the data source var tasks = new WinJS.Binding.List(); // Open the database var db; var req = window.msIndexedDB.open("TasksDB", 1); req.onerror = function () { console.log("Could not open database"); }; req.onupgradeneeded = function (evt) { var newDB = evt.target.result; newDB.createObjectStore("tasks", { keyPath: "id", autoIncrement:true }); }; // Load the data source with data from the database req.onsuccess = function () { db = req.result; var tran = db.transaction("tasks"); tran.objectStore("tasks").openCursor().onsuccess = function(event) { var cursor = event.target.result; if (cursor) { tasks.dataSource.insertAtEnd(null, cursor.value); cursor.continue(); }; }; }; // Expose the data source and functions WinJS.Namespace.define("TaskList", { tasks: tasks }); Notice the success event handler. This handler is called when a database is successfully opened/created. In the code above, all of the items from the tasks object store are retrieved into a cursor and added to a WinJS.Binding.List object named tasks. Because the ListView control is bound to the WinJS.Binding.List object, copying the tasks from the object store into the WinJS.Binding.List object causes the tasks to appear in the ListView: Adding a New Task You add a new task in the Task List application by entering the title of a new task into an HTML form and clicking the Add button. Here’s the markup for creating the form: <form id="addTaskForm"> <input id="newTaskTitle" title="New Task" required /> <button>Add</button> </form> Notice that the INPUT element includes a required attribute. In a Metro application, you can take advantage of HTML5 Validation to validate form fields. If you don’t enter a value for the newTaskTitle field then the following validation error message is displayed: For a brief introduction to HTML5 validation, see my previous blog entry: http://stephenwalther.com/blog/archive/2012/03/13/html5-form-validation.aspx When you click the Add button, the form is submitted and the form submit event is raised. The following code is executed in the default.js file: // Handle Add Task document.getElementById("addTaskForm").addEventListener("submit", function (evt) { evt.preventDefault(); var newTaskTitle = document.getElementById("newTaskTitle"); TaskList.addTask({ title: newTaskTitle.value }); newTaskTitle.value = ""; }); The code above retrieves the title of the new task and calls the addTask() method in the tasks.js file. Here’s the code for the addTask() method which is responsible for actually adding the new task to the IndexedDB database: // Add a new task function addTask(taskToAdd) { var transaction = db.transaction("tasks", "readwrite"); var addRequest = transaction.objectStore("tasks").add(taskToAdd); addRequest.onsuccess = function (evt) { taskToAdd.id = evt.target.result; tasks.dataSource.insertAtEnd(null, taskToAdd); } } The code above does two things. First, it adds the new task to the tasks object store in the IndexedDB database. Second, it adds the new task to the data source bound to the ListView. The dataSource.insertAtEnd() method is called to add the new task to the data source so the new task will appear in the ListView (with a nice little animation). Deleting Existing Tasks The Task List application enables you to select one or more tasks by clicking or tapping on one or more tasks in the ListView. When you click the Delete button, the selected tasks are removed from both the IndexedDB database and the ListView. For example, in the following screenshot, two tasks are selected. The selected tasks appear with a teal background and a checkmark: When you click the Delete button, the following code in the default.js file is executed: // Handle Delete Tasks document.getElementById("btnDeleteTasks").addEventListener("click", function (evt) { tasksListView.winControl.selection.getItems().then(function(items) { items.forEach(function (item) { TaskList.deleteTask(item); }); }); }); The selected tasks are retrieved with the TaskList selection.getItem() method. In the code above, the deleteTask() method is called for each of the selected tasks. Here’s the code for the deleteTask() method: // Delete an existing task function deleteTask(listViewItem) { // Database key != ListView key var dbKey = listViewItem.data.id; var listViewKey = listViewItem.key; // Remove item from db and, if success, remove item from ListView var transaction = db.transaction("tasks", “readwrite”); var deleteRequest = transaction.objectStore("tasks").delete(dbKey); deleteRequest.onsuccess = function () { tasks.dataSource.remove(listViewKey); } } This code does two things: it deletes the existing task from the database and removes the existing task from the ListView. In both cases, the right task is removed by using the key associated with the task. However, the task key is different in the case of the database and in the case of the ListView. In the case of the database, the task key is the value of the task id property. In the case of the ListView, on the other hand, the task key is auto-generated by the ListView. When the task is removed from the ListView, an animation is used to collapse the tasks which appear above and below the task which was removed. The Complete Code Above, I did a lot of jumping around between different files in the application and I left out sections of code. For the sake of completeness, I want to include the entire code here: the default.html, default.js, and tasks.js files. Here are the contents of the default.html file. This file contains the UI for the Task List application: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>Task List</title> <!-- WinJS references --> <link href="//Microsoft.WinJS.0.6/css/ui-dark.css" rel="stylesheet"> <script src="//Microsoft.WinJS.0.6/js/base.js"></script> <script src="//Microsoft.WinJS.0.6/js/ui.js"></script> <!-- TaskList references --> <link href="/css/default.css" rel="stylesheet"> <script src="/js/default.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/tasks.js"></script> <style type="text/css"> body { font-size: x-large; } form { display: inline; } #appContainer { margin: 20px; width: 600px; } .win-container { padding: 10px; } </style> </head> <body> <div> <!-- Templates --> <div id="taskTemplate" data-win-control="WinJS.Binding.Template"> <div> <span data-win-bind="innerText:title"></span> </div> </div> <h1>Super Task List</h1> <div id="appContainer"> <form id="addTaskForm"> <input id="newTaskTitle" title="New Task" required /> <button>Add</button> </form> <button id="btnDeleteTasks">Delete</button> <div id="tasksListView" data-win-control="WinJS.UI.ListView" data-win-options="{ itemDataSource: TaskList.tasks.dataSource, itemTemplate: select('#taskTemplate'), tapBehavior: 'toggleSelect', selectionMode: 'multi', layout: { type: WinJS.UI.ListLayout } }"> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> Here is the code for the default.js file. This code wires up the Add Task form and Delete button: (function () { "use strict"; var app = WinJS.Application; app.onactivated = function (eventObject) { if (eventObject.detail.kind === Windows.ApplicationModel.Activation.ActivationKind.launch) { WinJS.UI.processAll().then(function () { // Get reference to Tasks ListView var tasksListView = document.getElementById("tasksListView"); // Handle Add Task document.getElementById("addTaskForm").addEventListener("submit", function (evt) { evt.preventDefault(); var newTaskTitle = document.getElementById("newTaskTitle"); TaskList.addTask({ title: newTaskTitle.value }); newTaskTitle.value = ""; }); // Handle Delete Tasks document.getElementById("btnDeleteTasks").addEventListener("click", function (evt) { tasksListView.winControl.selection.getItems().then(function(items) { items.forEach(function (item) { TaskList.deleteTask(item); }); }); }); }); } }; app.start(); })(); Finally, here is the tasks.js file. This file contains all of the code for opening, creating, and interacting with IndexedDB: (function () { "use strict"; // Create the data source var tasks = new WinJS.Binding.List(); // Open the database var db; var req = window.msIndexedDB.open("TasksDB", 1); req.onerror = function () { console.log("Could not open database"); }; req.onupgradeneeded = function (evt) { var newDB = evt.target.result; newDB.createObjectStore("tasks", { keyPath: "id", autoIncrement:true }); }; // Load the data source with data from the database req.onsuccess = function () { db = req.result; var tran = db.transaction("tasks"); tran.objectStore("tasks").openCursor().onsuccess = function(event) { var cursor = event.target.result; if (cursor) { tasks.dataSource.insertAtEnd(null, cursor.value); cursor.continue(); }; }; }; // Add a new task function addTask(taskToAdd) { var transaction = db.transaction("tasks", "readwrite"); var addRequest = transaction.objectStore("tasks").add(taskToAdd); addRequest.onsuccess = function (evt) { taskToAdd.id = evt.target.result; tasks.dataSource.insertAtEnd(null, taskToAdd); } } // Delete an existing task function deleteTask(listViewItem) { // Database key != ListView key var dbKey = listViewItem.data.id; var listViewKey = listViewItem.key; // Remove item from db and, if success, remove item from ListView var transaction = db.transaction("tasks", "readwrite"); var deleteRequest = transaction.objectStore("tasks").delete(dbKey); deleteRequest.onsuccess = function () { tasks.dataSource.remove(listViewKey); } } // Expose the data source and functions WinJS.Namespace.define("TaskList", { tasks: tasks, addTask: addTask, deleteTask: deleteTask }); })(); Summary I wrote this blog entry because I wanted to create a walkthrough of building a simple database-driven application. • IIS7 bulk bindings in vbscript , how to remove a binding

    - by minus4
I have a script to manage adding over a thousand domains to a single site bindings, this has gone fine, but now client wants about 20 of them removed, Microsoft programmers don't think it would be nice to sort the bindings alphabetically, so does anyone know the code to remove the domains ( array list ) in bulk please. this is what i am using: Set adminManager = createObject("Microsoft.ApplicationHost.WritableAdminManager") adminManager.CommitPath = "MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST" Set sitesSection = adminManager.GetAdminSection("system.applicationHost/sites", "MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST") Set sitesCollection = sitesSection.Collection siteElementPos = FindElement(sitesCollection, "site", Array("name", "microsites")) If siteElementPos = -1 Then WScript.Echo "Element not found!" WScript.Quit End If on error resume next Set siteElement = sitesCollection.Item(siteElementPos) Set bindingsCollection = siteElement.ChildElements.Item("bindings").Collection Dim arrFileNames : arrFileNames = Array("list of domains") Dim objDict : Set objDict = CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary") Dim strFileName, strTemp For Each strFileName In arrFileNames Set bindingElement = bindingsCollection.CreateNewElement("binding") bindingElement.Properties.Item("protocol").Value = "http" bindingElement.Properties.Item("bindingInformation").Value = "192.168.100.19:80:" & strFileName bindingsCollection.AddElement(bindingElement) Next adminManager.CommitChanges() WScript.Echo "Job Completed" WScript.Quit Function FindElement(collection, elementTagName, valuesToMatch) For i = 0 To CInt(collection.Count) - 1 Set element = collection.Item(i) If element.Name = elementTagName Then matches = True For iVal = 0 To UBound(valuesToMatch) Step 2 Set property = element.GetPropertyByName(valuesToMatch(iVal)) value = property.Value If Not IsNull(value) Then value = CStr(value) End If If Not value = CStr(valuesToMatch(iVal + 1)) Then matches = False Exit For End If Next If matches Then Exit For End If End If Next If matches Then FindElement = i Else FindElement = -1 End If End Function so as you can see it is easy to add, but i can find no code or manual or instructions for the removal. i cant seem to run appcmd either. at first i tried creating a batch file using the appcmd but this never worked, saying appcmd can not be found. thanks

  • Additional mailboxes in Outlook 07 SP2

    - by Nick
I have had my Outlook 2007 open additional mailboxes via the advanced account settings. After updating to Office SP2, the list of emails in the additional account still displays, but I get a message for each mailbox item: This item cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane. Open the item to read its contents. After double clicking the message, I get a small error box which displays just Cannot open this item. Unknown Error. Also, if I try to re-add the mailbox in the Advanced tab of my account settings, I get an error message The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action. However, the status bar indicates Online with Microsoft Exchange, and I can both send and receive emails from my primary account. What could be going wrong?

  • What tool can record multiple parallel stream to files of defined size?

    - by Hauke
I would like to record record multiple audio web streams like this one in parallel to an mp3 or wma file for a duration of several days. I would like to be able to limit the file size or the duration stored in each file. The tool can be for any operating system. I do not need anything fancy like song recognition, metadata or silence detection. I haven't been able to find such a piece of software so far. Example: Tap channel "News" results in: News-090902-0000-0100.mp3, News-090902-0100-0200.mp3, etc... Who knows what tool can do this? It can be commercial software. • Can Windows 7 Jump Lists be made to behave like menus when dragged out with a mouse?

    - by FocusStealer
On a traditional menu, if you mousedown on the menu title, drag down, then release on a menu item, it will trigger that menu item immediately, e.g. in Notepad: Left mouse button down on File Drag down to New Release mouse button will start a new file without requiring an additional click. However, when dragging out a Jump List on Windows 7, you must additionally click the desired item to launch it. Is there any way to change this behavior?

  • How to block access to websites on a linux box [closed]

    - by user364952
I'm just curious how many ways people can come up with to block access to a website. I simply intended to block (my own) access to news.ycombinator.com to stop my productivity drain. The first two methods I thought of were editing the hosts file to resolve news.ycombinator.com to 0.0.0.0 or adding a rule to iptables. iptables -A OUTPUT -d news.ycombinator.com -j REJECT Disclaimer: I do realise that the above two methods are easily by-passable. Doesn't help this is my own machine. What other ways does the internet know?

  • VLC - Adding to playlist

    - by VANJ
I am using Songr to find/stream songs and double click them to play in VLC which basically "plays" the URL. But as I am listening to one item and search for another and double click another item from the results, it replaces the currently playing item in VLC. How do I set it up such that double clicking adds to the current playlist? When I see now is that it adds the new item to the end of the playlist and proceeds to play it. Any ideas? Thanks

  • Ubuntu: move logs from /dev/tty8 to different terminal /dev/tty12 or get rid of it.

    - by Casual Coder
I want to know how to move or get rid of /dev/tty8 log output in Ubuntu 9.10. /dev/tty7 is my regular X session. When I am switching user to test account where I can try and test setups and configs I am at next available console i.e. /dev/tty9 because /dev/tty8 is taken by log output. Where can I configure this ? All I've found related to /dev/tty8 is commented lines in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf. I changed it like that: daemon,mail.*;\ news.=crit;news.=err;news.=notice;\ *.=debug;*.=info;\ *.=notice;*.=warn /dev/tty12 And I've got nice log output on /dev/tty12 but where is configuration for log output on /dev/tty8. • MS project publishing to TFS web portal display

    - by denis bastarache
So, when we initially created our MPP schedule, I made use of indends / subordinates to break down the project by the various stages of the lifecycle, which is fine... no issues there... But now that I'm trying to publish this over to TFS display, it'll only pick up the actual "action items / sub-tasks" seeing as I have resource allocation specified. So for example I have an "Analysis" phase with a few items underneath, and "System Requirements" phase with the same items, so when I publish these to TFS, it won't display the "Parent" distinction between items, so both "Tasks" instances are being published in TFS under the exact same name... So, if I can't do this Automatically, I'll likely have edit each tasks with "Analysis - Item 1", "Analysis - item 2", "SRD - Item 1", "SRD - item 2"... is there a way to do this automatically, or will have to go the manual route??

  • Windows 7 mouse multi selection on windows explorer with CTRL and point to select / single click to open

    - by bortao
This is something that have annoyed me since i changed to Windows 7. I don't do double click for a long time now since windows introduced 1 click selection (Folder Options Click items as follows Single click to open an item). The problem is, when i click Control and hover over the items, they select/deselect automatically every small amount of mouse movement i make. What i want is to select/deselect the items only when i enter/exit them. So to deselect an item im hovering, i have to move the mouse out of it, and then back in. I'm using Intellimouse Explorer official drivers. (edit) Here's another related annoyance: When you are hovering something and move the mouse inside other item (Holding Ctrl) The new item may or may not be selected. If you continue moving the mouse it gets selected/deselected as you move. (more edit) I have found that the parameter HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse\MouseHoverHeight / MouseHoverWidth have some influence here. If it's set to 2, the item select/deselect really quickly as you move the mouse. When set to larger numbers, its slower. But setting to 20 or 200 don't seem to be much different.

  • excel autocomplete combo-box with on-selection event

    - by IttayD
Hi, I have an excel sheet for groceries. One column is the name, another is whether to buy it or not (checkbox) and another is the amount. I'd like to have a widget in the top row so that I start typing an item's name and it shows a list of matching items that I can select from, or if I continue to type and there's only one item, completes its name. When the last item is selected, other widgets show the amount, which I can edit and clicking 'check' will check the item in the list. I know this is kind of very specific, but am hoping someone can at least get me started. Thank you, Ittay

  • What happened to 'Copy Public Gallery Link' for folders in Photos in Dropbox?

    - by Transgenic
I've been trying to figure out how to use the 'Photos' folder properly, but it does not seem to contain the functionality that is mentioned on various websites. From what I've read, you are supposed to create a folder within the 'Photos' folder. At that point, it becomes a public gallery for which you can access the context menu item Copy Public Gallery Link. However, I do not have this context menu item. I found a topic on the DropBox forum, but it is 2 years old. Even the various website information mentioned is over a year old. I found a topic from this year on SuperUser that mentions about the Share link menu item. I understand that this functionality is basically the same as Copy Public Gallery Link, however, the key difference is that it opens the website for which I need to click 'Copy link to this page' link, which then adds it to the clipboard. My primary questions are: Did they phase out the Copy Public Gallery Link from the context menu entirely? If not, is there a way to re-enable this menu item? If not, am I using the Photos folder properly? Lastly, if there is no way to get this menu item, is there some kind of script or hack-around that will let me simplify the Shark link + Copy link to this page functionality without requiring it to open my web browser? Note: I had to edit my post to remove other website links that I mention since I'm considered a 'New User' here and am only able to post 2 hyperlinks. Sorry.

  • Copying List of Files Through Powershell

    - by Driftpeasant
So I'm trying to copy 44k files from one server to another. My Powershell script is: Import-CSV f:\script\Listoffiles.csv | foreach $line {Move-item $_.Source $_.Destination} With the Format for the CSV: Source, Destination E:\folder1\folder2\file with space.txt, \\1.2.3.4\folder1\folder2\file with space.txt I keep getting: A positional parameter cannot be found that accepts argument '\\1.2.3.4\folder1\folder2\file'. • Protect foreach loop when empty list

    - by SteB
Using Powershell v2.0 I want to delete any files older than X days: $backups = Get-ChildItem -Path $Backuppath | Where-Object {($_.lastwritetime -lt (Get-Date).addDays(-$DaysKeep)) -and (-not $_.PSIsContainer) -and ($_.Name -like "backup*")} foreach ($file in $backups) { Remove-Item $file.FullName; } However, when $backups is empty I get: Remove-Item : Cannot bind argument to parameter 'Path' because it is null. I've tried: Protecting the foreach with if (!$backups) Protecting the Remove-Item with if (Test-Path $file -PathType Leaf) Protecting the Remove-Item with if ([IO.File]::Exists($file.FullName) -ne $true) None of these seem to work, what if the recommended way of preventing a foreach loop from being entered if the list is empty?

  • Excel: How to Compare Column Values in a Row

    - by spazzie
I have a bunch of comparison data and a lot of entries being compared. As an example, say my sheet looks like this, give or take a few columns: Item Price1 Quantity1 Price2 Quantity2 Price3 Quantity3 001 $123 12 $456 24 $789 48 002 $100 95 $200 5 $300 51 For each item (row), I want to be able to look at all of the Quantity columns and find which one has the highest quantity. Ideally I'd be able to run a condition of some sort on the entire excel sheet at once, and it would highlight in red the highest quantity. So the results would be a red "48" (qty3) for Item 001 and a red "95" (qty1) for Item 002. Only the color would change, not any data, and no new rows would need to be created. Let me know if you need more info

  • Jquery removeClass Not Working

    - by Wade D Ouellet
Hey, My site is here: http://treethink.com What I have going is a news ticker on the right that is inside a jquery function. The function starts right away and extracts the news ticker and then retracts it as it should. When a navigation it adds a class to the div, which the function then checks for to see if it should stop extracting/retracting. This all works great. The problem I am having is that after the close button is clicked (in the content window), the removeClass won't work. This means that it keeps thinking the window is open and therefore the conditional statement inside the function won't let it extract and retract again. With a simple firebug check, it's showing that the class isn't being removed period. It's not the cboxClose id that it's not finding because I tried changing that to just "a" tags in general and it still wouldn't work so it's something to do with the jQuery for sure. Someone also suggested a quick alert() to check if the callback is working but I'm not sure what this is. Here is the code: /* News Ticker */ /* Initially hide all news items */ $('#ticker1').hide(); $('#ticker2').hide(); $('#ticker3').hide(); var randomNum = Math.floor(Math.random()*3); /* Pick random number */ newsTicker(); function newsTicker() { if (!$("#ticker").hasClass("noTicker")) { $("#ticker").oneTime(2000,function(i) { /* Do the first pull out once */ $('div#ticker div:eq(' + randomNum + ')').show(); /* Select div with random number */ $("#ticker").animate({right: "0"}, {duration: 800 }); /* Pull out ticker with random div */ }); $("#ticker").oneTime(15000,function(i) { /* Do the first retract once */ $("#ticker").animate({right: "-450"}, {duration: 800}); /* Retract ticker */ $("#ticker").oneTime(1000,function(i) { /* Afterwards */ $('div#ticker div:eq(' + (randomNum) + ')').hide(); /* Hide that div */ }); }); $("#ticker").everyTime(16500,function(i) { /* Everytime timer gets to certain point */ /* Show next div */ randomNum = (randomNum+1)%3; $('div#ticker div:eq(' + (randomNum) + ')').show(); $("#ticker").animate({right: "0"}, {duration: 800}); /* Pull out right away */ $("#ticker").oneTime(15000,function(i) { /* Afterwards */ $("#ticker").animate({right: "-450"}, {duration: 800});/* Retract ticker */ }); $("#ticker").oneTime(16000,function(i) { /* Afterwards */ /* Hide all divs */ $('#ticker1').hide(); $('#ticker2').hide(); $('#ticker3').hide(); }); }); } else { $("#ticker").animate({right: "-450"}, {duration: 800}); /* Retract ticker */ $("#ticker").oneTime(1000,function(i) { /* Afterwards */ $('div#ticker div:eq(' + (randomNum) + ')').hide(); /* Hide that div */ }); $("#ticker").stopTime(); } } /* when nav item is clicked re-run news ticker function but give it new class to prevent activity */ $("#nav li").click(function() { $("#ticker").addClass("noTicker"); newsTicker(); }); /* when close button is clicked re-run news ticker function but take away new class so activity can start again */ $("#cboxClose").click(function() { $("#ticker").removeClass("noTicker"); newsTicker(); }); Thanks, Wade

  • Custom RadioButton image not filling space

    - by Galip
    Hi guys, I have a custom radiobutton with a 9-patch image as background. I use a Selector to determine the background. I also have some text i want to put over the background of the image, but the text is aligning next to the button. This is the RadioGroup <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/segmented" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="50sp" android:gravity="center" android:layout_below="@+id/header"> <RadioGroup android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal" android:id="@+id/group1" android:gravity="center"> <RadioButton android:checked="false" android:layout_width="90sp" android:id="@+id/rbVerzekeringen" android:text="Verzekeringen" android:textSize="10sp" android:button="@drawable/checkbox_theme" /> <RadioButton android:checked="false" android:layout_width="90sp" android:id="@+id/rbPersoonlijk" android:text="Persoonlijk" android:textSize="10sp" android:button="@drawable/checkbox_theme" /> <RadioButton android:checked="false" android:layout_width="90sp" android:id="@+id/rbNotities" android:text="Notities" android:textSize="10sp" android:button="@drawable/checkbox_theme" /> </RadioGroup> </LinearLayout> This is the Selector: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <item android:state_checked="true" android:state_window_focused="false" android:drawable="@drawable/bt_filter_active" /> <item android:state_checked="false" android:state_window_focused="false" android:drawable="@drawable/bt_filter" /> <item android:state_checked="true" android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="@drawable/bt_filter_active" /> <item android:state_checked="false" android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="@drawable/bt_filter" /> <item android:state_checked="true" android:state_focused="true" android:drawable="@drawable/bt_filter_active" /> <item android:state_checked="false" android:state_focused="true" android:drawable="@drawable/bt_filter" /> <item android:state_checked="false" android:drawable="@drawable/bt_filter" /> <item android:state_checked="true" android:drawable="@drawable/bt_filter_active" /> </selector> And this is what it lookes like: As you can figure out I want 3 large buttons with the text over it. How can I do this? EDIT: I set the selector at background in stead of button and set the button to null. The code looks like this now: <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/segmented" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="50sp" android:gravity="center" android:layout_below="@+id/header"> <RadioGroup android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal" android:id="@+id/group1" android:gravity="center"> <RadioButton android:checked="false" android:layout_width="100sp" android:layout_height="40sp" android:id="@+id/rbVerzekeringen" android:text="Verzekeringen" android:textSize="13sp" android:orientation="vertical" android:background="@drawable/checkbox_theme" android:button="@null" android:gravity="center"/> <RadioButton android:checked="false" android:layout_width="100sp" android:layout_height="35sp" android:id="@+id/rbPersoonlijk" android:text="Persoonlijk" android:textSize="35sp" android:background="@drawable/checkbox_theme" android:button="@null" android:gravity="center"/> <RadioButton android:checked="false" android:layout_width="100sp" android:layout_height="30sp" android:id="@+id/rbNotities" android:text="Notities" android:textSize="13sp" android:background="@drawable/checkbox_theme" android:button="@null" android:gravity="center"/> </RadioGroup> </LinearLayout> But now when I make the buttons larger or smaller the text in it just disappears like this (height of the first image is 40sp, the second is 35sp and the last one is 30sp): How can I make the background image smaller without cutting the text in it?
