    After creating a child process and exiting it immediately (_exit()), I want to perform a wait and check the status. Now I wonder if in the 'else' branch of the if/else construct I also need to check for WIFSIGNALED.     I'm trying to do something but I can't find any solution, I'm also having some trouble putting it into works so here is a sample code, maybe it'll be enough to demonstrate what I'm aiming for: $input = array ( 'who' => 'me', 'what' => 'car', 'more' => 'car', 'when' => 'today', ); Now, I want to use array_splice() to remove (and return) one element from the array: $spliced = key(array_splice($input, 2, 1)); // I'm only interested in the key... The above will remove and return 1 element (third argument) from $input (first argument), at offset 2 (second argument), so $spliced will hold the value more. I'll be iterating over $input with a foreach loop, I know the key to be spliced but the problem is I don't know its numerical offset and since array_splice only accepts integers I don't know what to do. A very dull example: $result = array(); foreach ($input as $key => $value) { if ($key == 'more') { // Remove the index "more" from $input and add it to $result. $result[] = key(array_splice($input, 2 /* How do I know its 2? */, 1)); } } I first though of using array_search() but it's pointless since it'll return the associative index....     I have been pondering why it is recommended that we should not release managed resources inside finalize. If you see the code example at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.gc.suppressfinalize.aspx , and search for string "Dispose(bool disposing) executes in two distinct scenarios" and read that comment, you will understand what I mean. Only possibility I can think of is that it probably has something to do with the fact that it is not possible to predict when finalizer will get called. Does anyone know the right answer ? thanks, mishal

  • Implementing a scrabble trainer

    Hello, I've recently been playing alot of online scrabble so I decided to make a program that quickly searches through a dictionary of 200,000+ words with an input of up to any 26 letters. My first attempt was fail as it took a while when you input 8 or more letters (just a basic look through dictionary and cancel out a letter if its found kind of thing), so I made a tree like structure containing only an array of 26 of the same structure and a flag to indicate the end of a word, doing that It can output all possible words in under a second even with an input of 26 characters. But it seems that when I input 12 or more letters with some of the same characters repeated i get duplicates; can anyone see why I would be getting duplicates with this code? (ill post my program at the bottom) Also, the next step once the duplicates are weeded out is to actually be able to input the letters on the game board and then have it calculate the best word you can make on a given board. I am having trouble trying to figure out a good algorithm that can analyze a scrabble board and an input of letters and output a result; the possible words that could be made I have no problem with but actually checking a board efficiently (ie can this word fit here, or here etc... without creating a non dictionary word in the process on some other string of letters) Anyone have a idea for an approach at that? (given a scrabble board, and an input of 7 letters, find all possible valid words or word sets that you can make) lol crap i forgot to email myself the code from my other computer thats in another state... ill post it on monday when I get back there! btw the dictionary im using is sowpods (http://www.calvin.edu/~rpruim/scrabble/ospd3.txt)

  • Is CakePhp 'standards compliant' when generating HTML, Forms, etc?

    So I've been reading a lot of "Designing with Web Standards" and really enjoying it. I'm a big CakePhp user, and as I look at the source for various form elements that Cake creates with its FormHelper, I see all sorts of extraneous In the book, he promotes semantic HTML, and writing your markup as simple / generic as possible. So my question is, am I better writing my own HTML in these situations? I really want to work in compliance with XHTML and CSS standards, and it seems I'd spend just as much time (if not more) cleaning up Cakes HTML, when I could just write my own thoughts? p.s.   • What is a good automated data import method for SQL Server?

    I'm in the process of porting some SQL Server 2005 databases to SQL Server 2008. One of these databases has an associated import application (Windows task) which uses SSIS with a DTS package to import a large dataset from an MS Access database nightly. In upgrading to SQL Server 2008, I discovered that I can't run the same console application which has been performing the imports due to the missing manageddts DLL in SQL Server 2008. It's several years old and in need of a rewrite for various reason, plus, I've been fairly unhappy with DTS in general. The original reason DTS was chosen was for speed (5 min import time compared to 30+ for ADO.NET). The format of the data to import is out of my control (the client likes Access). I would also like to be able to run the import from a machine completely separate from the server hosting SQL Server and preferably with minimal SQL features installed. Options I've considered: Creating an Access application to connect to both databases (SQL Server and Access) and perform the import (Ugh!) Revisiting ADO.NET to see if the original implementation was poorly written. Updated SSIS packages. What other technologies should I be considering for this job?

  • Is there an encoding method that is mutual to flash and php?

    I'm base64 encoding a JPG in AS3 and passing it to PHP where it would be decoded. It appears that AS3's encodeToBase64String() function and and PHP's base64_decode() function do not use the same algorithm. Is there a library or API for either language that would allow it to interface with the other? Alternatively, does anyone even know what PHP's default base64 map is? My Google searching is not yielding results.

It saves the file correctly, then goes back to the top of the loop, and crashes at the previously mentioned line. I want it to ask for more input. What gives?

    Hi, I'm trying to get two things done after a user clicks on a link: Delete a div Add another element at the bottom of the page I played with Rails link_to_remote and what I get with the code below is that the element is added before the div is deleted: <%= link_to_remote "&#x2713;", :url => { :controller => :movies, :action => :mark_as_seen, :movie => movie, :render => 'movie' }, :success => "Effect.Fade('movie_#{movie.id}_wrapper', { duration: 0.4 })", :update => "movies", :position => "bottom", :failure => "alert('Ooops! An error occurred.')" %> I tried to put :update and :position in a :complete callback, but nothing happened. And when I put both of them in the :success callback (after Effect.Fade), all I get is a parsing error. Any idea? Thanks, Kevin
